OK, this place really surprised me. It kind of looks like a rat hole from the outside, but once you get in there it's actually pretty nice. They have a lot to choose from in the way of CDs, and they have a respectable collection of DVDs as well. All in all a very nice store, definitely one to check out. read more

Not what I expected. A while back I wanted to sell my vinyl LP's, some from the 50's but mostly from the 60's to 70's. ALL in near mint condition... some even unplayed. I called and was told they would be interested. Carted about 200 to the store. Spent about about 2 hours waiting while my collection was cherry picked.... and finally offered approx 3.00 an album. That's why their prices are so reasonable..... I don't want to say they take advantage of customers but I think when they saw this old guy come in with some good stuff, he thought he found someone who didn't know anything.... I would have taken any fair price but that's not what was offered. It is a nice store for newer stuff... post 1980's. read more

I shop here mostly for cds to play in my car. Their prices make it easy to pick up something new that you're not sure if you'll like. They've got stickers at the counter and t shirts too. It's a small store, so you're better off going in on a weekday to avoid bumping into sweaty people! Park across the street at family dollar. read more

Whenver I visit a city, number one activity on my checklist is record shopping. This was definately one of the better stores I've been to compared to equal sized cities. Used selection was a little pricey for this city though. They were about on par to NYC prices. Their used CD selection was both bountiful and well organized. Particularly their metal section had some really good and hard to find stuff. However their bins don't put the side where you can read the title facing up meaning you have to flip through every CD or pick them up in groups, but to make matters worse the bins were tightly packed and couldn't really get the CD's back in very easily. New CD's and vinyl had limited selection for Metal. Staff was nice and helpful and playing good music which is always a plus read more

Just walked in here last week (repo was closed) to get my mom some CDs for mother's day, and I wanted to buy everything in the store. Good selection of newer albums, but also tons of old LPs. Cheap CDs, I bought three used and in good condition for an average of $5 each. read more

It's a fun crate-digging place for DJs and vinyl lovers. It is a tiny place but full of great goodies. I found a Jefferson Airplane vinyl with great artwork inside. For all my vinyl lovers, this is a great spot to get records old and new. Pretty good selection and knowledgable staff. I know I had popped in and pulled an artist out of thin air and I asked if they had it and they directed me to the section it was in. Very nice and friendly. Typical small, record shop with great deals scattered throughout. I usually end up finding quite a few records for as cheap as $2! It's just a nice atmosphere overall. Big Fan! This is my favorite place to be on the weekends. I love digging through the old records. Such a great selection. The staff is really nice and they always suggest new rad music that I didn't know about. This is where anyone looking for Christmas gifts for me should come. When my Fiancé was looking for someone to repair my vintage record player the cool kids at Lunchbox hooked him up with a neighborhood guy who works on them in his free time. They even showed me how to change the needle on my record player when I bent it. Kudos Lunchbox... you're the dopiest! read more

Lunchbox has a great selection of new and used records. Their prices are comparable or lower than most other shops I've been in. Their twitter updates are very helpful, since they tweet their just-in used LP's. They ave a lot of different genres represented, and I know it's menial, but their labeling system is very helpful when sorting through thousands of records. I definitely will be a regular at this place. It's really good to know that Charlotte has record stores like this. It reminds me a little of the pre-2004 Manifest. Parking can be tough, back of the building is best or across the street in the CVS parking lot is your best bet. read more

Great selection. I found a wax records Friday the 13th II soundtrack which I was happy about. The staff kind of wants you to do your own thing and then hand them money. The first time I went, the "too cool for school" hipster behind the counter laughed at me because I asked if they had any records of sea shanties. It then became very apparent he didn't know what sea shanties were. He couldn't believe anyone would be interested in buying those or recording them. Thanks guy. The staff is typically quite knowledgeable, but can on occasion be a tad standoffish (like the crew from the movie High Fidelity). Soon Lunchbox will have a new larger home and it will be glorious. Oh Lunchbox Records.....how I do love thee? I have recently become obsessed with this place since I purchased my vintage record player from Craig's List about three months ago. The variety of music they carry is great and I particularly enjoy how current and up to date the stock is kept. I like oldies as much as the next girl, but sometimes I want to hear my favorite current artists on vinyl too. I took my boyfriend here for his 30th birthday last week and $130 later, we left with 11 records spanning from the 1960's through the present. The diversity is there also and that's a huge plus. For example, we were able to purchase a brand new copy of Snoop Dogg's "Doggystyle" as well as "Rubber Factory" by the Black Keys and a little Grateful Dead just for good measure. The owner himself was working the counter and that is just another reason to love local business!!! Yay Lunchbox! :) read more

Great store. I called to get a replacement belt for my old turntable and the guy said bring it in. Within 15 minutes I had a new belt and needle; he even checked the alignment. It sounds good as new now! Their cd/album selection is great too. read more

They have a great selection and great prices, but the staff is not pleasant. They are rude, and not customer friendly. They laughed as we walked in and were not helpful. i have found some of my most prized vinyl at lunchbox. they don't carry crap. it seems like a rule. everything on the display is good and on my wish list. they know their demographic! the staff still can seem a bit... judge-y? I have been self conscious about my picks before... even though i thought they were awesome. BUT, if you are lucky enough to get the nod of approval, or even a "great album"... you will feel like you could be head music editor of Rolling Stone. Your self worth shoots through the roof. so maybe it is good that they don't hand those head-nods out like candy. (i got the head nod with Morrisey's "Viva Hate" and Bob Dylan's "The Free wheelin' Bob Dylan"...make note.) read more

Charlotte is lucky to have two great record stores in Lunchbox and Manifest-they both sell CD's and other stuff also-But Lunchbox wins big as the place to buy vinyl.The new vinyl is cheaper and they have a wider variety-The used vinyl at Lunchbox is reasonably priced and in decent condition-any junk is priced real cheap-At Manifest you have to dig through lots of junk,and when you do find a little treasure it has a really sticky used price tag STUCK ON THE ALBUM ITSELF which is all but impossible to remove without pulling a bit of the cover off-when I buy records the cover is as important to me as the record-Lunchbox has the used records in plastic sleeves with the sticker on the plastic-As it should be! read more

I came in here on friday afternoon with my daughter. She has jsut gotten into listening to records and was excited to check out the local shops. After browsing the selction for a short while I asked one of the guys behind the counter for help finding a particlar record. He looked a few places with no luck. A few minutes later I saw one of the other employees cleaning up a copy of the very record I had asked about. I approached him and Inquired about the condition. He was very short with me and said "you can look at it". While I felt like that was disrespectful, I just walked away.one of the other employees (who I later found out was the owner!!!!) was slamming doors and yelling at the previous employee to come in the office with him. the employee refused. while this dynamic is strange, if my boss was throwing a tantrum like that I certainly would not folow him into the office either!! when the younger gentleman finally gave in, you could hear the boss yelling at the young man through the entire store!!! Everyone around was clearly uncomfortable with this. While there are customers around is no time to be slamming doors and yelling at your employees!! To think that a business owner would act this way while there are customers in the store is outrageous!! I will not be visiting here again, and i urge you, if you own a business to learn some sort of "more toleration, less altercation" approach to reprimanding your employees while there are customers present!! read more

very cool shop. this shop has a great and wide selection of vinyl, cds and tapes, both new and used. they have really decent prices as well. got one of my favorite albums for $4!!! the guy working at the shop was very nice and gave us some good recommendations for places we had questions about. they also have a gender neutral bathroom which made the place feel very welcoming to all people. definitely check this place out. read more
