First time visiting this local record shop. I've passed by this shop many times, and have been wanting to stop in. I recently started following them on Facebook, and love that they post almost daily updates on new vinyl coming into the shop, and will even put a 7 day hold on items they post if you request. Last week was my first time visiting, and although it's not a big shop, they've got it packed, and well organized, offering music sorted out by many different genres, and sub-organized within the genres in alphabetical order. Pricing varies, assuming based on amount of specific items in inventory, rarity, and condition. The staff was friendly, and welcoming, asking if there were specific items I was looking for. Great spot to have in town, but potentially financially dangerous for music lovers out there! Though it was my first time, I'm certain it won't be my last. We stopped by here at 1:45pm on Saturday afternoon after grabbing brunch to browse and buy records. It was our first time here and at any record store, honestly. With its location on a strip, parking can be a hassle. I found one way in the back of the lot. It was a short walk but it was raining. Inside, it was cozy but an abundance of records with a huge variety. There were records on the wall and in binds. The records are separated by genres and the price of each are on each individual record. The prices varied. We ended up getting 3 records which was $90 total. The cashier was friendly. Decent sized store. Needs a little work on the organizing though. Nice selection and prices are okay. Wasn't impressed by the employee though. Whenever I'm in a new area and find a new store, I ask about other stores in the area. I always ask after I've made my purchase to be respectful. He basically told me there weren't any in the area and the next best store would be his other Hippo record store an hour or so away. Google told me otherwise. There are at least two within a five minute drive that I found and both were incredible. (Buffalo Boogie and Remember When). And both of those stores named each other and Hippo when asked about other stores. Sorry. Pet peeve of mine. I won't return to this store but will happily go to his two competitors. read more

I've been stopping by Hippo Records for a while now, and it's easily one of my favorite vinyl spots in Greensboro. It was actually one of the first local shops that made me feel truly welcome here. They offer a wide selection every visit turns up a few unexpected gems. Shout-out to the owner Patrick, he's helpful whenever I've asked about new arrivals or back-catalog curiosities. If you follow their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/HippoRecords) you can get a peek and possibly hold the newest releases and used albums that recently come in. An excellent local record store, if you are selling your collection they provide reasonable prices. Definitely give Hippo Records a visit if you are collecting, selling vinyl records. They're also absolutely worth visiting on Record Store Day -- the team keeps everything organized and stress-free. All the RSD releases are neatly displayed on the wall for easy browsing, and they limit the number of customers inside so the experience never feels chaotic or overwhelming. read more

My Dad has over 11,000 records. We have taken day trips to record stores all my life. We search for record stores for him to visit, book stores for me to visit, and a restaurant to eat in before driving back home. Yesterday we took a day trip to Greensboro to do just that. We visited 3 record stores in Greensboro with this one being the third one we stopped in. Hippo Records was by far my Dad's favorite of the three. He even said he wished we had stopped there first so he could have spent all his money there! It is such a good thing that we live hours away because he would definitely become their best customer! The store is well organized, easy to navigate, clean, and open. Some book stores make it difficult to browse their stock. Not Hippo Records. I really enjoy and appreciate their layout. They definitely have something for everyone! The man working there was knowledgeable and interesting to talk to. I am sure my Dad and I will make the drive again. read more

Best record store in Greensboro. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. Always patient with my plethora of questions. They have a wide variety of music ranging from classic rock to heavy metal to Brittney Spears. Well ran and nostalgic. I love the way this place smells. It reminds me of the 80s. Their prices are affordable and they don't try and push a bunch of stuff on you. Found some cool Sabbath here. Spent more than I am proud of, Ha! Keep up the good work Hippo you are appreciated. Had another great time at Hippo Records and even managed to snatch up a May Jailer vinyl! Never seen this in person before and I was so excited to buy it even though it was lowkey pricey (for me anyways). Unfortunately, the guy at the cash register was having a very lengthy conversation with a friend even though he clearly saw others in line and did not end the conversation. I was pretty annoyed since it was 2 people in line and they would not quit talking. Hopefully next time I get someone more attentive. read more

Pat, Pat and the super friendly girl who works on Sunday the last few times I have been in absolutely rock! If they don't have something you are looking for, they tend to recommend things that are comparable. This is the record store of my dreams, nothing but wall to wall records. I have been twice to hippo records the service was good the workers were very nice. The selection on new records was great they have almost everything you could want. the used section was a little small still found good hits in there they were in really good condition I'd say practically brand new. New Vinyl records are really expensive nowadays but all the new records I picked up were less then online and that's without shipping fees stacked on so the value is good especially if you don't want to wait all that time for your records to come in the mail. I've stopped by a few times traveling back to Charlotte. I like 70s and 80s 7-inch 45s with picture sleeves, and I've found good stuff every time I've stopped. Good prices $1-2. The guys on the register were always willing to help - and happy to chat. I've noticed some stores put the new 45s in with the old ones, which can make searching a bit of a chore. But it's a small store - so that can be overlooked. I would definitely stop by again. read more

At The Disco record there and the staff were very friendly and quick to help me find what I was looking for. I was nervous to play my record I bought because of possible skips in it but I played both Side A and Side B and NO SKIPS! This made me very excited I will be buying again! read more

Had an evening free when I was in Greensboro for work and swung by Hippo Records after seeing they had a used Guided by Voices record I was looking for at a great price on their Facebook page. Wound up spending over two hours there digging and walked out with five 7"s and about six LPs (all used) for less than $70. Prices were incredibly fair, the two gents there when I stopped in were very friendly and easy to talk to (something you don't always find in record stores), and they were easy to contact through their Facebook page about holding two records for me. I don't buy new pressings (for a variety of reasons) but if you are and happen to be in Greensboro give these folks a visit. They also have a very impressive used and new metal section that's priced incredibly fair. Most places that have a decent metal section, in my experience, usually have a pretty absurd markup but not Hippo so that's definitely a bonus if you're into metal. Overall just a great shop with a great crew that moves a lot records at fair prices. read more

Large selection of new records and plenty of bins of older records to select from. Well organized if your looking for something specific. They do have some CDs if that's what your looking for also. Prices are reasonable. I got a newer album for 13 dollars and two older records for 0.99 cents each. And they were in great condition. As far as the CD selection, the 2 bins they had were well stocked of good music. At least it was before I bought about a dozen of them. Definitely worth a visit if your in town. read more

Best place in Greensboro for new vinyl! They have a great selection, at least if you like rock adjacent music (I don't really look for anything else.) The records are priced pretty well for them being new. It can be a little cramped if there's a lot of people in there, sometimes you have to wait for someone to stop browsing an area to look at stuff. It would be cool if they had CDs and tapes too but I'm not complaining, it's a small store. read more

Came here awhile back and bought a Mac Demarco vinyl brand new, something must've happened on the production line and some adhesive was on the record itself, no problem, just called them and was able to bring it back. Issue came when I got to the shop and the dude running the register was being rude and dismissive for some some reason, told me to grab a new one off the shelf and I did. Opened it in front of him to make sure it was good and unfortunately it had an issue with the lable in the middle of the vinyl, looked like multiple labels were slapped on making it puff up in the middle. Told the dude if I could get a different one and he told me "nah can't do that, it'll lower the value of the vinyl and lose us money", as if it was my fault I happened to grab the wrong vinyl. Not my issue, it's your responsibility to provide the customer with a non-faulty product, especially one that was new and $30 bucks. It's been awhile since then so hopefully they've gotten better staff, but I'd avoid the spot and stick to a different vinyl shop. Dude had long hair and some chin stubble. read more

found this awesome vinyl store about less than a week ago. went on a weekday. awesome experience. got home and opened my skynard album. it was a sealed vinyl. bou it because of one main song. Simple Man. to my surprise there was glue from the center label misplaced over the one song I really wanted. Obviously factory defect. Called up and the employee told me to bring it in. Again, good experience. Decided to go back today expecting the same customer service. Different employee. To be kind, I'll just say he was a douche. I recommend not visiting on a Saturday read more

Located in a small shopping area, right on Spring Garden Street is Hippo Records. Private lot parking. Nice well lit shelves inside. Selection is great, with lots of new vinyl as well as plenty of old classics. Really something for everybody here. Prices are really not bad. Very reasonable. The owner is super friendly, and always ready to help. You wont get any static for re-arranging albums, or opening them up, within reason. Which is nice. Great customer service.
