Came in looking for a last minute gift for a friend. This store can be a hit or miss, however everything is overly priced compared to what you can pay for it elsewhere. I like this cute little gift shop! They have some unique and beautiful things. I came in here last weekend to buy a gift card for a co-worker and ended up buying two cards because I couldn't decide. Although their things are a bit more on the pricier side, I feel as though their products are of good quality and are worth the price. The woman behind the register was nice and accommodating as well. I will definitely be back to buy more cards and maybe a few presents too. I had to purchase a last minute gift for someone, and it had to have butterflies. I knew that I'd find something for sure at Lundeen's. The proprietor wasn't sure there was anything left, but I dug around and, sure enough, I found a boxed set of greeting cards with lovely butterflies on them. At the same time, another woman found a pair of butterfly wings for her little girl. To top it off, the proprietor did a lovely gift wrapping job, for free! I'm a fan of the ones that are actual coasters: a thoughtful message + somewhere to stow your drink - SCORE!! (Remember to write in sharpie, or else that shizz will bleed. Your friends will not appreciate your words ruining their good coffee table.) Card prices are on par with the usual stuff you'd find in the card section of a chain store. There are also plenty of creative gifty items to peruse. The first time I popped in they had copies of Greenopia's LA green living guide, in addition to several other eco-minded books. A sizable area is dedicated to babies/children (check out the "Pee-pee Tee-pee". BRILLIANT!!). Not only am I supporting a small business with kick-azz merchandise, its deliciously close to many other businesses I can gleefully skip to. Parking can be had on the street or nearby garages. This is one of my go-to card shops on the westside. I pretty much used to live at the Starbucks next door when I worked in this area and never failed to browse through this darling gift shop practically every day! This charming little store sells cards with colorful language- like the word "f*ck" for example. The humor is adult and truly funny. The original messages and creative illustrations are simply art. No b.s. greeting cards for the masses sold here. Just super original super cool cards, stationary, and gifts. Everything isn't vulgar. There are lovely cards too. Find beautiful blank cards, children's cards, sympathy cards, just because cards & romantic cards... I especially enjoy finding cards for my love here. One of the favorite cards I gave him said "If you be my old man, I'll be your sea". Love that, and Hemingway. :) He loved it too... I have used the gift wrap services at this spot. More often than not, both owner and staff are pretty much indifferent to the customers. I am giving 2 stars because they have cute products and every now and again, you show up and they are actually open. I deducted a star for the fact they take off & close the store, and never answer the phone, randomly and inevitably when you need them urgently. Twice that's happened. I deduct another star for the rude and negligent service. I think, they think they are French. But the French are more fun about a little splash of attitude and just want to play. I recently wandered into this store and loved all of the random cute items they carry. For a small boutique type shop I expected a greeting upon entering (especially since the store was empty) but didn't receive any kind of recognition. Fine. I moved on. I actually ended up purchasing a couple of items, nothing extravagant, but still purchases. I found that, even at the counter when paying, the woman behind the counter seemed annoyed to be dealing with me. Judging from the other reviews it seems I wasn't the only one to experience this. This review is to serve as a warning: DO NOT go to this store unless your purse/wallet is obese and needs lightening. Resistance is futile. At some point in the past decade, commercial establishments on the whole stopped offering gift-wrapping service. Nobody told me this; I didn't get a memo. Was it the economic crisis? A fiscal speculation on the diminishing number of gifts bought and given? I bought a lovely gift for a lovely lady and even my local Macy's was not gift-wrapping. I even offered them money, because in the past that's helped, but to no avail. So I asked Google to find me a gift-wrapping place that not only sold gift-wrapping materials, but would actually gift-wrap for the lazy, two-left-thumb plebians like myself. Google passed me off to Yelp like an unreliable friend. Yelp gave me Lundeen's. Lundeen's has two entrances, front and back, and I'm not sure which is which so the store is a sort of physical palindrome. The more recognizable entrance is on Washington, next to Saint Amour cafe. I'm hacking up a lung from an upper respiratory infection and I've got everyone in the small store scared and flashing back to the movie "Contagion." My drug-addled brain isn't sharp enough to follow its normal cue and ask the attending lady her name, so all my praise has to go unidentified. In any case, she was marvelous. At first skeptical, she found a box that would work for my gift and packaged it good and proper. Then she said, "Okay, go read books or something while I wrap this, because you'll make me nervous otherwise." Again, the antihistamine prevented me from doing a full analysis but echoed some multiple choice to me.... Is she flirting? Do I really make her nervous? Is it my cough? Or was it just unacknowledged fun sarcasm? No matter.. i begin to scour the store, and a funny thing happens. Lundeen's is packed with fantastic stuff. Brilliantly designed cards that are edgy and fun and romantic and have none of the Hallmarkian karo syrup, but feel honest. They're also pricey. $5 a pop. But it only takes imagining receiving one of these cards from another, and you justify the value. Aside from the cards, there are a myriad of knick-knacks and beeblebobbles and shmaganadoos. They are all sort of unique and interesting, and are by far the most perfect stocking stuffers I've ever seen in a shop. They have that affable quality of seeming handmade even though you know they're still assembly-line. They hit areas of simple pleasures, like lovely coffee and tea sets, and fringe tastes, like vintage product magnets. They seem categorized and stocked on the shelves for maximum sale potential, as if to encourage you to sift through your brain, thinking which of your friends' personae will suit each particular item. I think you know where this story goes, and let's not spend much time on it. By the time my wrapping is done, I've returned to the counter with three extra items and a sheepish grin, knowingly submissive, understanding now the true agenda behind the nice lady's "nervous" comment (though she cooly and flinty-eyed denied it.) Well, what the hell. Finish more of your holiday shopping early. It's a sound proposal. And the wrapping? A triumph. It's an earthy lime-green with paisley decoratives and a stunning three-tier ribbon bowing in red-white-green; somehow capturing the green-organic movement while still being Christmas-y. And all that for a song. The other gifts weren't cheap. They were an expensive date. I like Lundeen's. I just don't know if I can afford her. read more

I am a huge fan of supporting local business, and card buying is no exception. There really is no other, that I know of, mom pop gift store in Culver City....and although places like Papyrus carry a variety of really nice and hand-made cards, I really enjoy being able to buy cards that come from local presses. There's just a warm, cozy feeling that comes from buying local :) They get a three because I never really feel welcome here. No greeting when I walk in, no asking if I need help, etc. Guess I will continue to shop here as long as there is no other place like it nearby. I have to agree with a lot of the other 3 star ratings, this place has a lot of interesting and unique items but lacks warmth - and I mean of the human kind. I am a huge supporter of local businesses and have dropped more money here on cards and stationery than I care to admit and each time I have felt no love from the owner or staff. Not even slight affection or as much as a canned greeting. This is disturbing for so many reasons but primarily because I support local businesses specifically to be separated from the masses, treated as an individual who appreciates human interaction/ nuance and tight communities. Even still as I'm paying (way too much for same items I can find elsewhere with much friendlier staff) I smile genuinely and am courteous but the bitter taste left in my mouth gets stronger. I am quickly getting over how charming I thought this place was. I guess downtown Culver City is just like that - charming on the outside (or outset) but not much going on inside. too bad. read more

I always spend a lot of time in this store, even if I go in to just buy a card. It's just stacked with little goodies! They have a great selection of cards for every occasion. Most of them are the fancy, letter-pressed cards, so it's not cheap...but they sure are creative! They have a small jewelry selection near the register. They carry Gorjana (love!), ROOST (awesome rings!) and Dogeared (cute necklaces!). Side note: I believe they provide free gift-wrapping here. It feels great to support a local business and Lundeen's takes care in stocking unique items that are great for gifts. They have a unique selection of cards that are only slightly more expensive than Hallmark. They have amusing books and unusual novelty items and jewelry. Located on a strangely shaped block in the middle of two streets, parking can be found on the street (maybe) or in one of downtown Culver City's two hour free lots (definitely). You'll have to walk a block or two to get here from wherever you end up parking. Staff is always pleasant. read more

Adorable little shop that is reminiscent of the Paper Source, except of course, without the whole chain of stores thing. Very small but very much filled with all sorts of little gifts AND lovely non-intrusive sales people who let you poke around and browse to your hearts content. I mainly came to look at the cards. As cheap as the cards are at places like Target and CVS, they lack something. Something special and unique that places like Lundeen's supply. Yes they cost more (I paid $4) but when you actually care to send something beautifully decorated it's well worth it AND I have noticed that some of those ugly Target cards cost just as much. The rest of the shop has books, candles, jewelry, and all sorts of interesting little trinkets that either you will want for yourself or that you know would be perfect for someone else. Good thing for 2 hour free parking!! Barely made the mark! Things here are pretty pricey, so I wasn't all too attracted when i first stepped in. THIS PLACE RULES! I live so close by and have walked by many a time wondering what type of gifts they sell. My niece and nephew and mother's birthdays are all at the end of March and I decided to get my act together and send gifts this year. Maggie the store manager helped me with all my gifts offering creative and spot on items to send to my family members. I was delighted with the card selection (I got one for my boyfriend, and then 3 birthday cards) all made with high quality paper and with catchy non Hallmark phrases. They are always receiving new shipments of changing merchandise Maggie told me. You can find a gift for anyone of any age there. It's bound to be unique and well received. I wandered in not knowing what to expect and left spending $ 170. A successful shopping trip with great gifts. Oh and how could I forget to mention that Maggie wrapped all three gifts in a small box as well as two separate parcels for the twins with great colors and three different strands of colorful ribbons. And then you are so pleasantly surprised to see a high rating and so many other people in love with a place you just fell in love with? That's the feeling I just had. Although my stop into Lundeen's was quick because I had to be off to a birthday celebration, it was the best 20 minutes of retail I've had in a while. I don't make it to Culver City often, but I was there this evening to have dinner and then took a stroll around the area because it was such a beautiful evening. I had a birthday celebration to get to and I was hoping I'd happen upon a card shop of some sort to pick up a birthday card. When I stumbled upon Lundeen's I got that and so much more!!! Not only did I find great cards for two upcoming birthday's but I found some awesome one-of-a-kind gifts that will really make for a meaningful gift for some of the people that mean the most to me. You can't really ask for more than that. Gift giving can sometimes be hard.... but this shop speaks right to me and the kind of people that I surround myself with. I can't think of any person that I wouldn't be able to walk into this shop and not find a fantastic gift for. I can't wait to go back. Kathryn, the owner, was in the shop this evening and gift wrapped the selection I found with some fantastic paper and beautiful ribbon. While checking out, I found some candles with the #4 on them. I happen to be a freak about collecting things with my lucky number on them.... so she promptly grabbed the container and started to pull all the candles out on the counter in order to help me find any of them with the #4. So helpful and nice! She then said she would keep an eye out for anything else with a 4 on it for my collection. Although it was the first time I had been in the shop, I got the feeling that she truly meant that and would do whatever she could to help a customer. I've been saying for years that Culver City desperately needs a stationary/ gift store. There are approximately 5,000 restaurants in the downtown area, but until Lundeen's appeared the only place to buy a birthday card was at Albertson's. Thank you, Lundeen's, for saving us from cheesy grocery store greeting cards. This little shop has a small but thoughtful assortment of cards. They range in price from about $3 to about $10. I picked up a very nice Valentine's Day card there the other day for $3.50. They also carry stationary and thank you notes. Towards the back of the store are a bunch of great gift items. If you forgot a certain someone's birthday and you're dashing across the street from your office to try to find something on short notice, you'll find something nice at Lundeen's. They also have a small section of baby gift items, including organic onesies and blankets, books and stuffed toys. In short, this is the store that Culver City has been waiting for.
