Review is for the idiot driver of the Luxor cab that was driving recklessly on El Camino Real today. He switched lanes without any signal almost side swiping our car. This was the manner of his driving until he turned off on Millbrae Avenue. The most scary thing was he was driving with a paying passenger in his taxi. We were so alarmed as well as angry he almost crashed into us it warranted a call to their office. The man who answered thanked me for informing them. Whether or not that will do any good is questionable. At least they cannot say no one has told them. So if this driver is the sort they hire at Luxor I feel very sorry for their passengers as they are being put in a precarious place with this dangerous manner of driving. I know that I will not recommend them after this incident. read more

I'm sad to write this review because I like to support local businesses. But Luxor Cabs needs to train their employees on customer service. I travel to Seattle for work on a bi-weekly, if not weekly basis. I take the same flight and request the same pick-up time every single time. At first, I had no issues with Luxor. Than it began... Strike one: One week, a driver had trouble finding my house and was visibly frustrated. I politely pointed out where my house was from the car and acknowledged that the number was difficult to see from the street. He got on his radio and said (right in front of me): "I have the customer. She was very indignant I couldn't see the building number." How rude is that?! I couldn't believe he had the nerve to say that right in front of me, so I replied: "I'm sorry sir, I did not mean to sound indignant. I was simply pointing out the building number in case you pick me up in the future." All of a sudden he changed his tune and said "Oh of course, it's not a problem." Yeah right! Strike two: It was five minutes past my pick-up time and standing on the street in front of my house, there were no cabs in sight. I called Luxor Cabs to confirm that there was indeed a car coming to pick me up (I had a flight to catch after all). The operator started saying something I could not understand, so like any normal person, I said: "I'm sorry? Could you repeat that please?" He kept on talking like he didn't hear me, so I repeated myself. He then says to me in a very rude tone, "M'aam, m'aam! I'm radioing the taxi. You need to stop talking so I can hear them, OK?" Well excuse me, why didn't you say that in the first place?! And why are you still talking directly into the phone? Ridiculous! The cab finally came. The driver was actually very nice and apologized, but I was frustrated. Three strikes and you're out: A reminder that I fly to Seattle for work almost every week and request the same pick-up time (5:50 am) from my house to go to the airport every time. Since that is very early in the morning, I usually do not turn my cell phone on until 5:40 am so my fiancé doesn't wake up when the cab company calls to let you know they are on their way, or that the cab has arrived. This morning, I turn on my phone at 5:40 am and have two voice mails waiting for me. It's the Luxor Cab operator (the same one that told me to stop talking last time - nice). In the first message, he was calling to verify whether my address is in San Mateo or Burlingame and asks me to call back immediately. This was very frustrating since they pick me up from the same place, at the same time almost every single week. In the second message, he said: "If you don't call back immediately, we will simply have to default on the pick-up." His tone in both messages was very rude. I'm thinking to myself - wait, was it not YOUR company's fault that the employee who picked up the phone when I called to request the pick-up, recorded my address inaccurately? And please, tell me why, after you've picked me up every single week for the past three months, at the same time, at the same address, do you not have my information in your system?! I frantically called back since I had a flight to catch, and the operator (who I am seriously not a fan of at this point in time), has the nerve to lecture me for not having my phone on and is STILL threatening to default on the pick-up because he already sent the driver elsewhere. Not once did he apologize for the inconvenience he was causing me that morning. If I were him, I would have said: "We're sorry we didn't record your address correctly when you called. We'll get a cab over there straight away." The whole situation was RIDICULOUS x 3! I've had lots of Luxor Cab drivers who were pleasant, but because a couple of people have such a lack of respect for the customer, I will unfortunately never use them again. No one needs that kind of attitude at 5:50 in the morning - I will happily give my money to someone else. Since then I've used Yellow Cabs Peninsula (650-254-1234) and it is such a difference when you have a courteous operator. They are a network, and my favorite drivers are those with Hillsborough Taxi. They are so very nice and respectful. I highly recommend them over Luxor Cabs. read more

I called an hour before I needed to leave for SFO to book a taxi for noon. The driver arrived on time and called to alert me he was outside. The driver was courteous and helped me with my bag. Seventeen minutes later I arrived at SFO with plenty of time. Wish all things went so smoothly! I have used Luxor before and am always satisfied with their service. Nothing but good experiences with Luxor Penninsula (note this is a different cab company than Luxor SF which I have had poor experiences with). After dealing with many cabbies that had trouble finding my house, were rude, didn't speak English well or would speed while chatting on the phone the whole ride, Luxor was a refreshing change. They may cost a dollar or two more than the cabs that take coupons but they are worth it. They have always been on time and usually early, which is great when I have to linstall 3 car seats for my kids. The drivers have all been polite and focus on driving, stopping at all stop signs and going the speed limit. These days Luxor Cabs is the only one that I call. read more

This is my first Yelp review. After the experience I just had, I felt compelled to write. I am often in San Mateo on business, and Luxor was recommended to me by a friend in the area. Unfortunately, my experience with them has been pretty painful overall, and I'm going to stop using them. While my friend swears by them, I swear AT them. About 1 out of 4 trips with them, they are late... REALLY late... destroy-your-day late. Today I was catching a train to SF to meet people. It's a 5 minute trip. To be absolutely totally sure I got to the train on time, I called Luxor 40 minutes before the train's departure time. By now you probably know what happened. This keeps happening. One time, I called to ask the ETA of a delayed cab. The dispatcher checked with the driver, thinking I could not hear the conversation. The driver said he was stuck in traffic and it was a mess and it would be hard to say when he'd arrive. The dispatcher came back to me on the phone, and said, "He's very close, shouldn't be more than a minute or two." read more

Called to get a taxi from Millbrae to SFO, the dispatcher told us no problem and that one would be there in 15min. Well, 15min comes and goes so we call back to confirm pickup. Another dispatcher picks up the phone and informs us that they don't serve Millbrae?! IT WOULD'VE BEEN NICE TO KNOW THAT WHEN WE CALLED THE FIRST TIME! I have used Luxor for years and they have been so so. But tonight this is it! I will never use them again. I am 5 minutes away from the train station and ordered a cab 15 minute before hand. 12 minutes left I call them, "your cab will be there shortly", 8 minutes "your cab is 2 blocks away", 3 minutes "your cab could not find a parking space in front of your house"!!! Oh yeah? there is place enough to legally park 3 cars and then there are 2 spaces at the end of my driveway and my neighbor's!!! We step outside, scan the street, no cab! The only reason they get one extra star is because the drivers are nice. Otherwise I call to reserve a cab, tell them to call me when cans outside, they do, and then they let someone else hop in MY cab I requested. I just got off an 11 hour shift and the guy who answers the phone has no respect. Never call this cab company unless you have a back up. Now I get to wait 20 more minutes for Merrit cab. Which has way better reviews. Sorry Luxor you lost a paying customer that uses a cab 5 days a week. Never again. read more

Called at 8:00 PM the night before for a 5:30 AM pickup from San Mateo to SFO. Jack answered the phone; and when I gave him my address, he knew exactly where we lived. I also had a scary unsafe experience with a Luxor cab, reported to management and got no satisfaction, so I would never step foot in one of their cabs again. I was cycling mid-morning on California Avenue. A Luxor cab came up behind me and honked their horn multiple times for me to get out of the way. It was not safe for me to move (parked cars meant that it was impossible to pass in the lane), and then he drove past me, almost touching my bike, despite a 3-foot minimum legal clearance. When I reported it to the company, they responded that they didn't know which driver it was, and wouldn't warn all their drivers of this behavior. Just like the other reviews said, Luxor Cab is safe, reliable, and has courteous drivers/dispatchers. I've been using them for years, and they're consistently on time and available. I've gotten to know the dispatchers pretty well too, so they know exactly where I live and where I usually need to go. Luxor Cab seems to have the newest taxis as well. Most of the cabs I've been in were even cleaner than my own car. not sure if I'd ever step foot in some of the other cabs I see driving arond town. read more

I used to call Luxor Cab whenever we could not cover a trip for a customer in San Mateo, Burlingame or SFO area, and they were responsive and collaborative. Driver of car # 11 actually HIT my partner yesterday, with a passenger in the car around 7:00 pm. The car ran him over in a cross-walk, crushed his bike and left him with several bruises. The company was wholly unapologetic and not helpful when he reported this. We will be following up with the police instead. If you absolutely, positively have to be on time, this is the only taxi service to use. I travel often from the peninsula to SFO and they are always on time (within 5 min of the requested pick up time) and have been so for many years. I also have great success using Luxor when my clients need to go to SF from the Peninsula (again on time pick up). I reserved a taxi last night for 6:30 am pickup. They called me at 6:25am saying they could not pick me up. 5 minutes before!! Then, when I questioned them, they blamed me! Told me I booked it incorrectly... as if that is even remotely possible... it is a cab company. I booked online, used freakin GPS for my location... Simple right? I book it, they pickup at scheduled time. Not the customers fault when they fail to accommodate, especially with more than12 h notice. Why even have a website?... or a business at all? unless its a cover, then I get it.... going elsewhere (Uber, Merit, Lyft, etc) next time. This is a copy of the letter we emailed to the management of Luxor Cab company in San Mateo, California. We were extremely unhappy and offended at how we were treated. Read below: "We are writing to you to let you know that yesterday, July 2nd, 2013, we had a horrible experience with your company. We had called on Mon. July 1st to reserve a cab to take us from The Top of the Mounds condominium in San Mateo to the San Francisco airport. We asked to be picked up at 1:30 PM so that we could make our flight at 2:45 PM. We were outside the condo building at 1:25 and were waiting.....and waiting. At 1:45 we considered calling your company to see where the cab was but decided to wait 5 more minutes thinking that the cab may have been delayed in traffic. We had used Luxor Cab from our home in Hillsborough many, many times and it always showed up on time or close to the time. At 1:50 we placed a call to your number and the dispatcher told us he had overlooked our booking but that the driver was "on his way". At approximately 1:55 the cab finally arrived.....about 25 minutes late! We are sure that the driver thought we would be upset and probably assumed that he would not be receiving a tip from us. After stopping the cab he sat in the cab and "popped the trunk". We placed our 2 small pieces of luggage in the trunk and got into the cab. When we were in the cab we said to the driver "you're late". He responded belligerently, "I'm NOT late". We said, "yes you are" and he repeated, "I'm NOT late". We said that he was supposed to have picked us up at 1:30 and it was now close to 2 PM. At that point he told us to, "get out of the cab". We said, "just take us to the airport". He responded, "Get the F..... out of my cab." I told him he needed anger management therapy!! We were shocked and we were told again to "get the F.......out of my cab". Since neither my husband or I use profane language my husband said that no one should speak to us in that manner especially in front of his wife. We tried to explain that we understood that his being late was not his personal fault, but the fault of the dispatcher. We started to explain that we had called to see where the cab was and the driver said, "I know I was in the office when you called and the dispatcher sent me to pick you up". The driver was so incensed at this point that he just kept swearing at us, using the F...... word repeatedly and ordering us out of his cab. At this point we could see that we were just wasting our time and knowing that our flight was leaving in 45 minutes and we still needed to arrange something to get us to the airport. So we got out, the driver popped the trunk and we removed our bags. We went to the driver's side of the car and said that he was very rude and he "flipped the finger" at us where upon my husband banged the driver's side window with the side of his fist. At that, the driver got out of the car and confronted us. We were amazed at his aggressive behavior and walked away. He sped off down the hill. At that point we again called Luxor cab to have them send us another cab. We told the dispatcher not to send the same driver. As we were waiting we discussed how poorly and shocking we had just been treated and we wondered if the dispatcher would really even send another cab to take us to the airport. Figuring that no cab might come we asked the maintenance man at the condo if he could take us to the airport. He went into the building to check with the manager and he came out and told us that he would be able to drive us to the airport. As we waited for him to go get his vehicle the second Luxor cab arrived driven by a driver that had driven us in the past. We told him that we did not need him as we had made other arrangements. At hearing this he too became incensed and we explained that we were not sure that another cab was coming due to our experience with the first driver. He said he knew all about it and that we had tried to break the window of the other cab--not true. As this was happening the condo manager came out and was writing down the number of the cab. The driver got out and demanded to know why she was taking down the number of his cab. She told him she was going to report him to his company. He swore at us and drove off.....honking his horn and putting his hand out the window to give us the finger as he sped off. We HAVE NEVER had such a rude, foul mouthed experience in our lives, especially with a company that is providing a service. We will never use Luxor cab again. We want to be sure that we don't take a chance on being forgotten and then blamed as if we were the ones at fault. We will tell our friends not to use your "service" ever. Granted I called for a taxi only an hour before I needed it, but it was 10 minutes late. Not a problem, but it would have been nice to have had the driver and or office give me a call to let me know they were running late. I assumed when booking the taxi and they asked for my number, this was why. Luxor is not the only company where I've experienced this but when the taxi did arrive, the driver didn't get out of his seat and popped the trunk for me to place my luggage in myself. Assumed due to his being late and wanting to get me to the airport, was the reason. Arrived at the airport, paid the fare plus a 20% tip and got out of the taxi. Once more, driver sat in his seat popped the trunk and let me take out my luggage. Don't know why I gave him a tip because no service was provided above what was expected. Learned my lesson, no tipping and no need to use Luxor again. read more

The dispatcher is great (and yes to Sean J -- I believe he works 24/7/365 -- and only on a couple of occasions (out of maybe a 100) has the driver been a little late picking me up. Some of the cabs & drivers are a bit funkier than others, but as cab companies go (and particularly as compared to San Francisco taxis) these guys are the greatest. read more

I use Luxor quite frequently to and from SFO from San Mateo - probably 2-3 trips to and from the airport a month. I call the night or day before to arrange for my pickup to SFO and they are always on time down to the minute. I also get them to pick me up at SFO so I don't have to deal with SF taxis who are often rude and don't speak English. I just call Luxor when I get my baggage and then walk to the front of the cab line and about 10-15 min later they bypass the line and pick me up. It's awesome. Every driver has been very polite and friendly. I have used other area cabs and Luxor is the best. read more
