The staff of CNAs and nurses here is well-staffed and attentive, and they have all the proper equipment to ensure patient safety. Since my mother has dementia and tends to walk around on her own--putting her at high risk for falls--they placed a bed alarm under her mattress and an alarm mat on the floor, which gives me peace of mind. The staff is sweet and thoughtful. Vanna from Customer Service is enthusiastic and friendly; she regularly visits my mother to check in on her and answer any questions I have. The kitchen even serves Vietnamese food, which my mother really enjoys. The nurses--like Kayla, Tran, Richard, LyLy, and many others whose names I can't recall right now--are all wonderful. A special thanks to Jennifer, who was incredibly helpful and attentive when I first brought my mother here. My grandma moved…read morein on Tuesday to an apartment with no cable TV, despite having the TV ready to go the weekend before her move in. I've visited or called every day to see if they've gotten her cable setup and they appear to be dragging their feet. There is a huge lack of communication between management, maintenance, and front desk staff that delays tasks and doesn't communicate progress with residents or their families. The other day a front desk staff members started clipping her nails while answering my questions with vague answers and "I'll leave a note" for staff who seems to always leave before the end of the day. I can't seem to get straight answers from anyone and I rarely get calls or texts back when I'm promised any. Overall, I'm frustrated with the move in and hope to see some changes in this facility soon. I'll be looking at alternative options if things don't change soon. EDIT: Katy from CSL gave me a call and we had a great chat about some of the frustrations I had regarding the delayed cable installation and communication issues. She also was able to clarify some of my questions and ease my biggest concerns/worries. She is such a sweet and caring woman, and I'm glad we were able to talk. I am very hopeful that things will go more smoothly now that some of the initial move-in bumps have been handled.

I did not enter this facility with a bowel bladder problem, but found that the way they deal with it is, rather than to help you get up and get to the toilet. They slap a diaper on you and tell you to go to the bathroom on yourself. Then the poop crew comes in changes, everyone's diaper and slaps another one on you. I was horrified to say the least. The Managment and Social Services Dept not only lied about various issues that occurred but were unsupportive in every single way. Absolutely the worst ever! Gabby should find a different field to work in because it was evident from our first conversation that helping others was not on her agenda. She was demeaning, rude and put words in mouth that I never uttered in order to make me seem uncompliant. She was offensive in every way possible and created more barriers to my recovery than I can mention here. Next the 2 younger male nurses who handed out the meds had dismissive smart a** attitudes. One actually said to me after waiting over an hour for much needed pain meds after back surgery "This is for my crybaby" needless to say I was shocked. After they refused to tell me what pills I was taking when asked... I requested a printout of the medication's I was taking. He asked me why I was being so difficult and told me that he was going to make me wait an additional hour for the pain medication that was due at that time AND he never printed out the list! After reporting this to management, it became clear to me that they were going to do absolutely nothing about it. Several times I ended up having to call the facility from my outside cell phone to get someone to answer my call light because the minimum wait time was 20 minutes. Completely unacceptable in every way, shape and form. However, I would like to highly commend the staff of overworked CNA's there who were kind, compassionate and caring. Many thanks to those who helped me along the way. In addition the physical therapy staff was excellent and I wish I could remember the Russian gal's name who was so fantastic in every way. Kudos to you. Keep up the good work!! The final straw that broke the camels back was the fact that they lost my custom-made front crown tooth and refused to even let me file a report about it. I was furious and I'm still without a front tooth many weeks later. I asked everybody to stop what they were doing that was helping me at that particular moment and told them exactly where my tooth was located next to me and they just kept on going and rolled it up in my sheets and dirty diaper, shoved them together in a plastic bag and left the room saying they would find it later in the laundry . I was mortified. It was a Saturday and I couldn't even get anybody to walk in there and place a reward sign which I was offering because it was a $2000 crown that required 3 seperate visits to the dental office. Heartbreaking expensive and difficult to replace considering my current health condition and restrictions. I'm not sure how they got away with NOT allowing me to file a report about the incident, but they simply refused to give me the necessary paperwork to file a report. Shocking!! After that I AMAʻd out of that hell hole just to get away from mananagment and Gabby who was physically blocking my exit with both hands on her hips upon me trying to exit the building. It was a disgusting experience in which I left the facility worse often than when I entered. I am now happily situated at Pelican Ridge Post Acute just down the street and I am highly satisfied with the care I am receiving there.

The Orchards gives off a whole different and positive vibe from the start when you walk in the main entrance. Everything is clean, actually clean, even the patient bathrooms, closets, behind the doors, everywhere is clean. The ratio of staff to patients is SO MUCH better than other facilities my family member has been too. I believe there's maximum 50 patients. The bedrooms are next level. They have 4-5 options ranging from a shared room with two people, to completely private with your own bathroom and living room/lounge area, obviously at a higher price point. But even the shared bedrooms are awesome as they have a closet/cabinet that divides the room, not just a sheet. Makes it so much better to have that division. ***Most importantly the Rehab staff is AMAZING!!!*** The amount of effort and thought they put into the individuals rehabilitation program is far greater than any other facility we have been to. They aren't trying to milk the process and allow people to just sit doing non productive activities just so they can bill for it. They're constantly assessing and evolving the game plan as they go. 10/10 best team of therapists. hands down. bar none. The staff communicates extremely clearly and reach out if they have pertinent info in regards to my family members health, progress, and well being. Which is something I've never experienced, usually I have to track people down and it's like pulling teeth to get answers or info. The food is good, and comparably to other places it's the best menu I've seen. Don't get me wrong it's not gourmet living but they have solid options. When you see a plate of food, it actually looks a cooked meal, not school lunch slop. They also have off menu items like sandwiches and what not if your family member is a picky eater. If you got this far in my Mega novel of a review then you obviously are deep in the process and looking for answers. Again, sending you all my good energy and if you can get your family member into The Orchards, don't hesitate and end up in another depressing SH**hole, pull the trigger and give your family member the best chance at success. The level of care, compassion, and professionalism shown by everyone at Sun Mar is truly remarkable. No matter the situation, their staff consistently go above and beyond for their patients. Every issue was addressed and resolved in a timely and caring manner, and my dad's needs were always their top priority. From the nurses and physical therapists to the staff who assisted with meals, bathing, and medication, every single person played an important role in my dad's recovery. Their teamwork and dedication made such a difference. We placed our mom in this facility after she'd fallen and broken her hip, surgery and 8 days hospitalization. We explained to higher staff that out mom is blind, hard of hearing and with dimentia and fall risk. No bed rails allowed, we then were there with her in shifts 24/7. Calling button for cna to bathroom help was so redondent that we took her ourself in the hopes that someone will show up to clean and take her back to bed. Most of the times we were told to soil the doaper in bed, they will clean her later. I am not talking about wrong meds given at wrong times, the excessive use of narcotics, and pure neglect of patients who they sat in chairs the whole day without anyone checking on them. We were promised that a cna will be sitting by the room on the hallways at night, and checking on mom every hour- never happened, not even once at night. I would come at 7am and see my mom covered in caked feces sitting for how long? On the commode crying in pain and desperation, scared that we abandonned her. We pulled her out of there the same day after almost 2 weeks of misery. Do yourselves and your loved ones a favor, never leave them in this or other facilities alone, and advocate for their care and question every med they are about to give them, 24/7.
