The fact that you used the verbiage "constant", in your reply, describes exactly the sentiment of Harbor, that we/she was a bother. It was never about the money, as we offered to pay more for better care and it was declined. All we wanted was a safe and caring place for my Mom and unfortunately the standard at Harbor was not that. The pictures I posted tell only 60% of what she endured, and "context " enough to express our experience; not to mention twice her laying on the floor for hours because staff was not able to lift her (or call for help) until my brother or I arrived. These words are so comforting to me since her parents left their special needs daughter in my care. Recently Bertha's mother passed away and this was soon after she had visited Bertha at ActivCare. After the loss of her mother, there was so much love shown to Bertha by all the staff. Marlene M. the program specialist would frequently call and update me on how Bertha was feeling during this very difficult time. Marlene has made my life so much easier in so many ways by letting me know what Bertha needs, updating me on the activities she participates in and those she does not and how she is feeling emotionally. She often goes in her room to make sure Bertha's closet and room are in order. I know Bertha is well cared for! Bertha is a social butterfly and she enjoys talking with others. I have often dropped by, unannounced, and seen Marlene and Bertha laughing and talking. Marlene also engages lovingly with other residents as well. She is such a kind and caring human being. We transferred both mom and dad over 3 years ago. He was already on hospice and she was just ready for assisted living. Thus, they moved into 2 separate rooms as we knew he would predecease her soon. What a breath of fresh air! Caring, professional, long-term management and staff. Beautiful and spotless facility inside and out. Wonderful activities and special events. Amazing dining experience. My dad boasted to friends and family that he felt like he was at home. He loved to sit by the fireplace and read. Mom loved bingo and scrabble with friends. And, when each of my parents health began to fail, Aegis was quick to recommend extra care and eventually hospice, letting them live out their life and die peacefully.

People tend to think that assisted living is for people who are ill. She is 96 and the upkeep on her home was just getting to be too difficult. Aegis provided relief from that but more importantly has given her fun activities and new friends. The staff there is wonderful, friendly and can help if health issues do arise. They communicate consistently, provide a welcoming and pleasant environment, and have many daily activities and weekly outings. There are separate areas for memory care patients and assisted living, and the grounds and rooms are really lovely, I'm writing this because if you have an elderly loved one considering a move such as this, I wouldn't hesitate to have them move here. The socialization is a huge thing and I think her days are much happier than when she was living alone, even if she doesn't need much assistance at this time. Was definitely the right move and better sooner than later. Thanks to all the staff at Aegis for providing a great "home" for our seniors.

The Royal Inns managed by Al and his family made this transition a comfortable and wise decision. The on-site staff is beyond "staff" and actually becomes "the extended family". Not once did my Mother and her family feel we made a wrong decision. Better yet, my Dad loved the place and thanked me every visit for finding this home. This limited bed (6 beds I believe) facility allowed excellent care for my Dad. The tasty daily meals, the day-to-day care, the cleanliness and extended warmth to all that enter is hard to be beat (really can't be beat). They arrange for onsite visits for doctors and personal care beyond the staff's abilities. As my Dad slowly lost his abilities of movement and hearing, the staff kept us abreast of all acitivity and his needs. The facility is consistently updated. I thank Al and his family and staff for making my Dad feel as home as possible. If (okay when) my day comes, I will be more than happy to become a resident.
