It's hard to find good dinner options in State College when your dinner time is 11pm on a weeknight. I really wanted MyThai, but they were closed. I detest Americanized chinese food, but stopped in to take a peek at the menu. I was impressed by the cleanliness and their willingness to make me anything I wanted. But, I guess that's the way you have to be when you are a new business in a small town and the way it should be really, always. If they were not willing to work with me, then they wouldn't have gotten my business. I opted for the chicken and potato curry. Unfortunately, no coconut milk was used, but they added every fresh veggie they had because I like vegetables. It wasn't great curry by any means npartially because I could not identify what kind of curry it was. It reminded me of an uninspired indian curry powder with chinese vegetables and pepper. The portion of curry was large and so was the heaping side of white rice. I hate huge portions of white rice because I don't like white rice. I'd rather have a single serving of a higher quality or more fragrant rice. They gave me the wrong rice at that, (i wanted pork fried) but that could be because I changed my mind after the fact and it got lost in translation. The general tso's chicken was good. Small pieces, but very meat heavy in proportion to breading. Very Sweet. Very processed tasting. But that is general tso's chicken. The crab rangoons were the worst I've had in state college. Incredibly thick breading and fried so lightly they looked sickening. The wonton soup was also like cheap flavored wonton soup packets were used. I question that they make it fresh. Also, I noticed there were no little shreds of pork so for people that do not eat ham, this may be a good thing. I actually could not believe how hot the food was by the time I got it home on this freezing night. If I hadn't watched them make it, i'd have suspected foul play (microwave). read more

Just tried Lychee Resto last night. I ordered delivery through Lion Menus. The food came very quickly (within 30 mins.) and the delivery driver was super friendly and chipper. We ordered Ma-Po's tofu, Pork Mei Fun, and Lychee Pork. We were all thrilled with our entrees. The food was hot and portions were large. The prices were great. All the dishes were adequately spiced and had tons of flavor. The ingredients seemed like they were high-quality. The have a large menu with dishes that I haven't seen at other Chinese restaurants in the area (like Lychee Pork). I will definitely make this my go-to Chinese takeout restaurant. read more

I'm from Philly so I guess I've been spoiled by authentic enough from Chinatown. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because despite other reviews about delivery time, ours arrived as promised and the delivery guy was pleasant. The food itself was bleh; we paid for extra shrimp and unfortunately this must've been lost in the Grubhub ordering process. The chicken wings we ordered was supposed to have sauce on the side yet they were literally drenched in same like a thick sticky soup. Inedible. The fried rice didn't appear to be fried, just yellow. The shrimp lol literally had ONE shrimp. Well, it's A shrimp roll aka one shrimp roll with lots of cabbage so I guess I can't be mad. I called and complained about the chicken and i gave them 2 stars based on the gentleman who I spoke with - he was very pleasant and professional, as well as apologetic. He offered to send more wings but I didn't want to bother them - just asked for a refund to my card. read more

Well, i would rate the food, but all I can rate is the experience since I ordered food ahead of time and when I showed up, I was told to wait, I was not helped, and then when I finally was able to speak to someone (25 minutes later) was told that they never received my order. The man in the front then proceeded to argue with me that I never called, that the number listed on Yelp was wrong, and when I redialed the number in front of him and he picked up, he then proceeded to defend that he never received my order. After 5 minutes of this, he went to the back, pulled my ticket down (which was now an hour after I had ordered) and said "we never started it, you can wait 15-20 minutes if you want for us to make it." Long story short, I left and I've told anyone who will listen to me about the experience. I had 2 hungry children waiting for food and wasn't able to get home to feed my children for another 50+ minutes because of this. read more

I usually LOVE this place for Chinese food when I'm ordering out in state college! However on my last particular visit on 07/11 I ordered two of their three dinner combos. (More than I normally would because I was feeding more people) All of the chicken was dry. I don't know if this means it was overcooked or what... Also the pork fried rice did not look or taste at all like it normally does. Again I usually LOVE to order from here... But spending almost sixty dollars to get dry over cooked not how it normally tastes food is just... Frustrating. Because I live 40 minutes away, so it isn't sadly something I could call and have them replace... Im only leaving this review because it seems that when ordered in bulk the food isn't the same and it's really disappointing and I hope that they see this review and take that into consideration for other larger food orders such as this... Ordered on Grubhub and the estimated time of arrival was for an hour. After an hour and a half i called the restaurant to ask where the food was, and after 15 more minutes i was FINALLY able to get my food. Some of the best Chinese takeout in town. Sauces aren't too thick, process are good, everything is cooked well. Staff is friendly. If you're picking up, just make sure you remember to grab whatever sauces and utensils you need because they don't throw it in for you. I've kicked myself a few times for forgetting. read more

Did this place go downhill or did I just go on an off night? Or was everyone else high and craving Chinese when they wrote their reviews? Either way, I was disappointed here. As is the case for most of us Americans, I can't help but love some greasy "Chinese" food from time to time. And I'm not a big fan of the authentic stuff, anyway. So that's not my complaint at all. My complaint is that the food just didn't taste good. We ordered from here on a night when Fuji & Jade was too busy to take phone orders and the food was straight up abysmal. The dumplings were small, hard, and lacked flavor, the General Tso's was soggy with too much breading, and the cold sesame noodles had a brown oily sauce on them instead of the usual creamy sauce, which I was not into. Very good food. We told him that we were vegetarians and liked the food spicy. He suggested Singaporean Noodles, ordered fried tofu, veggie rice and Veggie Lo Mein. The food quality and quantity was excellent. We have left overs. One of the very good Chinese takeouts in State College. For all this it came to about $25 which is very reasonable. There are soooo many bad Chinese places in State College th, but this place makes a lot of good dishes and the prices are really low. The restaurant itself has 4 tables or something like that, so I have never eaten in, but it's our go-to place for delivery via lion menus on nights where we don't want to cook. My favorite is probably the moo-shu, but there are many other dishes I that we order pretty regularly. This is definitely worth a try and will be a lot less expensive than ordering from some of the other good Asian restaurants. read more

If I could leave a negative I would. I ordered through order up. Placed my order at 11:25 am. My order wasn't received till 1:56 pm. It was cold and greasy. The delivery person was rude. Came into my place of employment said he had a order for me and slammed it on the counter. The food was leaking out of the broken containers and ended up being a sloppy mess. The delivery person slammed the doors as he left. Again I ordered through order up. Would I have been treated better if I ordered directly? I don't know. Order up told me that they do all their own deliveries. Regardless it didn't matter as the food was cold and greasy lacked taste and was not in the containers anyways. So yeah. Never again. Horrific customer service, Lychee should be ashamed. I cancelled my order with them via Order Up on March 26 moments after it was placed with BOTH the restaurant itself and Order Up, after being assured I would receive a refund in 7-10 business days. Refund never came, even though when I immediately called the restaurant after ordering, the man who answered the phone took down my address, and assured me the order would be cancelled once it actually came in via Order Up. In the dispute, they told Order Up I never called to cancel, and they in fact made the food and even delivered it. I never got my food, don't waste your money here, they'll scam you. read more

Used to love the delivery from here, but never again. Last time had a group order and asked for 1145 delivery. It did not arrive until 1235!! When the restaurant was called, all they said was that it was on its way. No offer of a discount or refund or even an extra cookie. My office used to order about once a week but no more. Several of us missed our lunch because of them. When you work in healthcare, the patient comes first, not your food. And in a college town, American Chinese places are plentiful. Food is the best as always. I've ordered from Lychee through Orderup NUMEROUS times before and this is the first time I've ever had any problem. I'm a bit disappointed and shaken by the delivery guy's rude behavior. I ordered using my credit card and figured I could just fill in the tip in the receipt that they're gonna want me to sign on. When the guy came, he just outright said "You don't have any tip for me." So I asked him for the receipt and he said he had none and I don't have any cash with me so I couldn't give him any and I feel so bad for it and apologized. He started ranting about how he has to work in the night in the cold for free and I just kept apologizing. Like I get that he's upset but I don't see any reason to be rude about it it was just an honest mistake. I said thank you when he handed me my food and he snapped THANK YOU FOR WHAT? Really disappointed. I am from Califonia and convinced my son on using Yelp to help pick a place to eat. Ordered fried chicken soup and they called my son to tell him that they didn't have any???? Then replaced it egg drop soup with chicken bits in it. My daughter-in-law said she liked the other Chinese place better. Cheap, greasy, and delicious! Lychee is my go-to place for the "so bad it's good" kind of Chinese food we all secretly love. Portions are big, prices are cheap, and the food is great. They do all of the classics really well (lo-mein, general tso, etc) but they also have some great variety on their menu. I highly recommend the chicken/beef teriyaki (the appetizer kind that comes on a stick - yum!). They also have some good tofu/vegetarian dishes if you're into that. Read the reviews for Lychee and thought we would give it a try. We both were very impressed. Placed order and was told it would be about 45 minutes. Food arrived 10 minutes earlier than told. We have exclusively ordered Chinese from lychee for at least 4 or 5 years since they first opened at the south atherton location. At first it was due to convenience. My boyfriend works in the same plaza so he could quick swing by on his way home from work. The first time I had it I was surprised that their fried rice is made with yellow rice. I hadn't seen that before and I really loved it. I always order beef and broccoli and their beef is super tender and fresh and the broccoli is really big and crisp. I get a meal with an egg roll and fried rice for a good price and big portions. Now though this is why I love them. I asked if they'd substitute my rice with Lomein noodles and they did and the best part is without me asking they gave me just the noodles and sauce with no veggies. Now I may be mistaken bc I don't normally do the ordering but I can't imagine my boyfriend asking for plain Lomein when he's already annoyed I'm making him do a special order. I really like regular Lomein but it's really a treat for me to just have the noodles because I love leaving my noodles in the fridge and eating them cold for breakfast but the veggies aren't as appetizing cold so I'd always pick around them but now I don't have to. The egg rolls are really good too. We also order crab rangoons, dumplings (we've had both steamed and fried), beef on a stick and won ton soup. They're all great. My personal favorite is the crab rangoons which are better than other places I've tried. They also serve them with with sweet and sour sauce which I had never had before but now I can't imagine eating them without so I always request it now just in case. I tried something there once that looked good in the pictures but it was just too much. It was a honey shrimp dish. The breeding on the shrimp was reminiscent of a corn dog and with the honey sauce I felt like I was eating shrimp wrapped in pancakes. Everything else I've tried I liked. They went through a change of staff a couple years ago and the food went downhill for a while but they seemed to get it worked out. My beef and broccoli with lomein and egg roll dinner meal with crab rangoon appetizer is on point every time and now I'm hungry and craving it after writing this. read more

I loved this Chinese food! It is mainly a takeout restaurant. Pretty good prices and huge portions. Great to have leftovers with. Please note some the food is spicy .
