Maybe I'm just a sucker for being able to get whatever I want as much as I want, but Variety Buffet is amazing. Ambiance is low key, service is minimal (it's a self-serve buffet; what else were you expecting really?) but food is soooooo good. I love being able to get as much lo mein, cream cheese Rangoon, sweet & sour chicken, and fried rice as I want without having to buy a bunch of separate different sides or meals which adds up quickly. The food is alright, they do have a good variety hence the name. It's a little pricey and I don't really think it's worth what they charge at dinner, but I get that things are expensive so it is what it is. The food wasn't completely fresh but it wasn't old either. I came in here with a small group. There was two adults and three small children. I myself had two full plates. The other adult only had one plate. The three children only had not even a half a plate of food and our bill came out to $96 and some change. stopped in for supper as i was starved. i am aware its not the best, but the good chinese buffet is about 40miles away in williamsport. so i ate. first thing that pissed me off is the salmon is gone and has been for a while. but they have some kind of white fish they used to call basa? there and the sign says broiled salmon which it is NOT!! the grill was closed down so you just got what was out there. i did like what i ate, but the price was outrageous for a simple dinner, no crab legs or anything fancy. $17.93 without a drink. and NO SALMON! about 4yrs ago i ate there with a friend for dinner and the broiled steak was bad! it truly was rotten and stunk but they cooked it anyways. other customers agreed it was bad. i told the waiter who seated us the meat was bad and he just smiled nodded his head and did NOTHING. just left it there for someone else to get grossed out eating it. This is one of those places that is just a bad idea all around. You start off by thinking a Chinese buffet sounds good but then when you arrive and start eating you instantly regret your decision. This is only buffet for miles which is pretty sad and is probably why it draws customers. The price is decent but that is all. The only time you can get good food is probably when they first open and even that is a gamble. The buffet has a mixture of Chinese and American dishes. Some of the stuff you would just pass altogether. Every once in awhile I had the misfortune of tasting spoiled food. Meaning that stuff is not being kept to proper temperatures. After every time eating here my party and I have left feeling sick and even have thrown up after words. This is Clinton county pa after all so no matter the past reports of rat droppings in the ice and bad reviews will keep people away. Also with the lose of Main Cheung we no longer have any options. As my girlfriend and I drove from New Haven to Chicago, we decided to make a dinner stop in Lock Haven/Mill Hall PA. After searching Yelp and Google for a decent looking restaurant, we decided to try Variety Buffett in Mill Hall PA. Our experience started by walking into the buffet and waiting 10 minutes to be seated. Throughout the 10 minute wait, three waitresses walked throughout the buffet, making eye contact with us up front yet ignoring us and even getting personal plates of food. Keep in mind, there were only two tables seated at the time, leaving 95% of the restaurant dead. After a minute of waiting, I suggested to my girlfriend that we leave and find a place that actually wanted us as guests. However, she insisted that we eat Chinese food, so we continued to wait. Finally, after 10 minutes of waiting at the front of the restaurant, a young oriental man walked up to us and asked to seat us. We followed him into the restaurant and sat in an entirely vacant section. While we were being seated, the three oriental waitresses began snickering and laughing behind our backs. I couldn't understand what we had done to deserve the treatment we received. I put my things down and went to get my first plate of food. I picked from a variety of fried dishes (nearly everything was fried). I also poured myself a cup of hot and sour soup. When I got back to the table and began to eat, I knew something was not right. The meat was nearly inedible and overcooked. It tasted as if it had been sitting under heat lamps for an entire day. It was hard to chew, tasteless, and loaded with sweetener. Dish after dish, I came to the same conclusion. The food was abhorrent, and when I took a sip of the hot and sour soup, I had nothing better to say. This is the first and only buffet I have not filled a second plate at. I simply could not eat the food. Additionally, the "hot sauce" they claimed to have was vinegar based Louisiana Hot Sauce, a far stretch for a Chinese restaurant. Our experience got even better towards the end of the meal. The man who originally served us came to our table with the bill. It was around $22 for the two of us. My girlfriend offered to pay as she pushed to eat Chinese food and I gladly obliged. As my girlfriend went to the restroom before leaving, one of the waitresses came back to the table with her credit card and bill (the one you fill out with tip and total). We had both decided to tip nothing due to the terrible service and horrible food. I filled out the receipt with a line through the tip section and signed the name. I then flipped the bill upside down and waited for my girlfriend to return from the restroom. As my girlfriend was walking back to our table, one of the waitresses walked towards our table and put her hand on the plastic tray holding the bill I had just filled out. I pulled it back towards me, and said "not yet", however she yanked it from under my hand, flipped over my bill and gave me a dirty look. I was in absolute shock from what just happened. We promptly left the restaurant and started back on our way to Chicago. This restaurant is disgusting, and their service is absolutely unprofessional and rude. I would not recommend this restaurant if it were the last place to eat on Earth. Beware of this establishment and stay away! read more

I've been going to buffets my whole life but they never treated me like that.The Asian skinny girl (the waitress) , took away the plates without asking if we were done with the food after 10 minutes of my arrival . She was really rude . However I made a complaint about the service to the guy in the front desk , he was polite and nice . I will give it another shot next time , hopefully I won't get the same lady. Every time we've visited Lock Haven we've been here for the lunch buffet. This place is really close to 220 and the highway. it has easy on off and there is plenty of parking. The staff is pretty friendly and the foods always full. Like the name says they have Japanese, Chinese and American foods. its okay i guess, kinda greasy, and their sushi has lots and lots of rice and a tiny amount of crab or eel or whatever. Pizza, garlic bread, salad, sushi, sesame chicken, pepper steak, peking ribs, bourbon chicken, etc. but for 5.50 you cant go wrong. Soups include clam chowder, hot & sour and wonton. read more

They have recently moved down the street from their old place of business to make way for the new lowes that has gone in it's now located at the entrance to Camelot Estates in the old Health South Building. This place had everything. Got lost lookin for pa Grand Canyon stumbled upon this place. Looked bad from outside but when we got in it was surprisingly nice and the food. As a local, we have been to this restaurant countless times over the years since moving to the area in 2003. Their buffet offers something for every palate, as evidenced by the varying tastes of our large family as they've grown from young toddlers to teens and young adults. Even my picky eating step father can eat here and be full. There is a full salad bar, a fruit & dessert bar plus a second full dessert bar, a section with more American-style foods (pizza, sirloin, Mac n cheese, a delicious hot, cheesy seafood casserole, some veggies, stuffed mushrooms, etc), a fried foods bar (sweet and sour chicken, egg rolls, pot stickers, shrimp, plus chicken on a stick, etc), a traditional bar (General Tso's, rice, lo mein, chicken & broccoli, etc), the seafood & soup bar, plus a cooler full of delicious Hershey's ice cream. Drinks are unlimited, and table service is generally efficient. My daughter and I go here at least once a week. Sometimes more. There's only been a couple of times when we've gone, the food was cold and unappealing. 98% of the time it's hot and fresh. Before they changed the staff and wait persons it was very friendly and they knew us each time. But sadly everyone we knew has left for one reason or another and we're making new friends. The food is addicting, especially the salt and pepper shrimp on the weekends. They have steak, pizza, crab legs, several different chicken entree's. My mouth is watering already. I've been to this place a number of times. Sometimes during the week for lunch, sometimes on weekends at Sunday Dinner Hour. Generally, the food is put out fresh and there is a very large variety of both Chinese and American food. I love that Menu approach because I can pick and chose what I would like that day from both types of food choices. My only complaint is that the quality of the meat they make for their American meal choices is inconsistent. Sometimes the meat is thick and juicy, other times its all gristle. This restaurant is over 30 miles from home so I am reluctant to drive there just for this restaurant not knowing what meat I am going to get. I do drive to this area for other reasons and when that's the case, I will stop here for Dinner. This restaurant has a really large selection of choices, a salad bar, a fruit bar, Pastry and Ice Cream for Dessert. This was our Chinese Buffet in this area, my son, gal and myself would eat there 2 - 3 times a month, $30 a pop...food was ok, not as good as you'd like, but ok for what it is here in Mill Hall, Pa.~~My main problem was their stupid billing idea...last Veterans Day, my gal (on crutches, broken ankle) and I stopped in for a lunch, had some problems with the goofy doors, getting her in...we had lunch, recvd the bill and it was like $10 more~~~OK, what the hell, so she made a mistake on the bill, no problem...I inquired and was told by the young asian girl server that today they were having a crab leg special, and that there was a note on the outer door saying that...I never saw this, and wasn't told about it, while being seated/served...I politely explained that we did not touch the crab legs, and don't think it fair to be charged for food we did not eat. I asked her if we did eat the crab legs, she said no, she knew...SO~ I asked for a manager, none to be found and the wait staff was not allowed to handle this simple problem. I told them to call the cops, as I'm not paying...my gal just wanted out of there, so I just said for a lousy couple of bucks, you just lost good repeat customers...we have not been back since. If you are looking for much better Chinese, go to Grace Buffet in Williamsport...it's worth the extra drive, Sukoro's (not sure of the spelling) there is also good.~~~~ Oh Yeah, upon leaving, I looked for the sign on the outside door, it was just a crappy, normal sized piece of paper, taped to the door, and folded over in half by the wind~~You couldn't read it, and you certainly would not have noticed it....stupid! read more
