Dr Berry and all the staff at Lynden Vet are wonderful! Dr Berry did an excellent job treating a very severe spider bite on my puppy's throat! He also helped my older lab live a happy life for 1 & 1/2 year beyond what we expected her to live! When the day came to help my old lab cross the Rainbow Bridge, everyone at Lynden Vet was kind and compassionate. Especially Dr Berry and Melissa! Dr Berry and Staff are fantastic, moved to the area around 3 years ago- the day of our move I found a huge piece of my dogs back molar - so as we are trying to move I'm frantically trying to find a vet around here that did dental and to get him in asap- we are like super close to Kushan and tried them first for convenience, man I got such the ick vibe just trying to book an appointment with them and thankfully they were too busy or annoyed to deal with not like an emergency emergency; but something that couldn't wait more than a day- so my hubs aunt recommended Lynden vet ( she over heard the frantic calls while helping us move) man I'm so glad I listen to her, dr Berry got us in first thing the next morning (I'm pretty sure he was fully booked but made room) sure enough our boy needed to get that tooth pulled and while it was a little bit of a hit to the pocket as an unexpected vet bill- it was far less then we would have paid for this lvl of care in Seattle and truly in my experience very reasonably priced, the office is on the dated side but it is clean and every member of the staff has gone above and beyond for me and my boys! Moved to Lynden from LA in 2021. Found Dr. Berry since he had treated all my mothers cats over the years. She was extremely picky with vets as she took such good care of her babies. Mom was a handful and very demanding retired Executive from Coca Cola in Atlanta so if she liked the business she would let you know her thoughts. She was never hesitant to call anyone out for incompetence. Fast forward Dr. Berry has treated my BELGIAN MALINOIS since she was a couple weeks old. She is super healthy, well adjusted to other dogs and people ( in fact she has been given the Royal Treatment each time I have visited the facility). When I travel they treat her like family and sure to take excellent care. Recently Waffles (my dog) ate a large bone whole and it caused a severe blockage risking her life. Dr. Berry didn't hesitate to do X-rays and start an aggressive regimen to dissolve and or bust up the bone without surgery. I expected less than good news but after a few days she was back at home chasing squirrels like a demon........ Thanks to Dr. Berry and his excellent staff we are still one big happy family.....Waffles and I............ Forget the rest and go with the best! read more

I have to say that it is absolutely shocking that in this day and age we have such yucky facilities and unprofessional veterinarian staff. I would never recommend this veterinarians office. I felt dirty while there and was terrified that my pets were going to catch something. The place was disgusting and stinky and the front desk girls were disgraceful. Shame on the management for having such low standards. I will not be going there nor will I ever recommend them to my friends/family. And then they claim they don't have me or my Zoe dog in their system.... How pathetic and a total cop out. Doctor was not helpful. I went twice because my cat is sick. Both times I was charged hundreds of dollars and my cat didn't get better. Doctor Berry acts knowledgeable but in fact can not give a specific diagnosis, only a theory of what he thinks the issue is and of course he will charge you for testing it, and your pet will not benefit from it. Took my parrot in. Called as traffic was bad. Had been on the road an hour. Would be 5 min late. Receptionist told me I couldnt be seen, and it was rude to be late. I was horrified. She put me on hold long enough for me to pull into the parking lot. She got back on the linr and decided we could be seen. Parrot goes in for beak and toenail trim. 34.00 everywhere Ive gone for 34 years. She brings him out, says the bill is 110.00. I almost fainted.Asked her why? She rudly told me that was the price. I paid and said I wouldnt be back as price was too high and it was 34.00 last time I was here. A week later I get a letter from Dr Berry firing me as a patient for being rude to his staff. Wow!! Talk about fraud.... this place take the award for stealing peoples money. this company forced my wife and I to have an XRay on our dog when the emergency room already took one. they told us that they could not see her unless we paid for another X-ray. This is extortion. we are thoroughly disgusted. I wasn't going to write a review but then we found out, that they tried to charge my sister in law for health certificates when services were not rendered. she went specifically for health certificates for travel and they refused to complete the documentation and still wanted to get paid. we will be reporting them to every possible governing resource and specifically to the USDA for their attempted fraud and attacks on an innocent company. I highly recommend avoiding this place and Dr. John Berry at all costs, the vet himself clearly did not have the best interest of the animal at all. If you do have to go, please be careful and do plenty of research on any treatments they may recommend, especially if it is risky and puts a lot of stress on the animals. I took in my recently-rescued and neglected 22-year old quaker parrot with a severe feather-plucking problem for an examination on 5/28/2021, so that she can be covered by a pet insurance. Dr. John Berry, the only avian vet in the area, examined the bird and said that she has no obvious health issues aside from the feather-plucking, in which he promptly recommended an injection of ivermectin... (the same drug that has hospitalized people in the last few weeks) A rather risky procedure for an old bird that could potentially kill her, or at the very least severely shock and stress the poor bird, according to multiple credible sources including avianvets.org, animals.mom.com, and many others. Generally, such a drastic treatment isn't recommended on small or young birds at all except maybe as a very last resort, including my quaker parrot which only weighs about 104g. This was also the first time she has visited a vet's office in over 20 years. After I asked him what made him think such a treatment would be advisable without knowing a single thing about the history of the bird, or trying safer methods first. He was unable to provide no answer aside from that "he's been doing this a long time," and then tried to pressure me into proceeding with the procedure yet again, saying "if he's right then the bird will heal quickly, although we won't know for sure until we do." Thankfully, I was able to argue back and get the bird back in my possession without harm. This is a bird that spent a good part of the last 20 years alone in a room with a mirror while being fed a diet mostly of seeds; the environment checked ALL of the boxes that would psychologically and hormonally drive a bird to self-mutilating behavior. Not to mention, she laid an egg in the month between being adopted and brought into the vet's office (six days before the vet visit, to be exact), which is something a bird infested with dust mites would be unlikely to do due to malnutrition. Dr. Berry took no effort to find out or even listen to any of this before or after recommending a shot, and immediately scurried away after realizing I can't be convinced to do as he said. While I was furious with the way the doctor tried to exploit someone's concern at the expense of the animal, it does seem difficult to disprove a dust mite infestation without an invasive analysis, unless of course the feathers improve with other treatment that wouldn't address dust mites at all. Through a combination of treatments like bitter aloe spray, removing any nesting materials, decreasing cuddle time, keeping the bird away from mirrors, longer dark hours, different diet consisting mostly of fresh greens, and removing other possible sources of stress for the bird, she has drastically reduced her feather-plucking and most of the missing feathers have come back. Needless to say, not a single injection or even a spray of dust mite repellant, which of course is toxic as well, and she has not laid another egg either (which is also a dangerous thing for pet birds), absolutely no thanks to Dr. John Berry. I did try to give him the benefit of the doubt before complaining publicly, and even called him after the bird had improved (shortly before writing this), to let him explain why he recommended and then even tried to pressure me into proceeding with a risky treatment. His response was that "I didn't pressure you into anything because you didn't do it," and "I've been doing this for 30 years," then "Why are you being so aggressive? Sorry it didn't go as you wanted," before hanging up the phone. If he cared about animals at all, or had an ounce of professionalism, he would've first tried to find out the history of the bird, and then suggested a variety of less risky treatments and addressed multiple potential causes. Instead, he took no effort to understand the problem and recklessly recommended a risky procedure that could have possibly killed my bird (without disclosing the cost, either), and nothing else... Someone like this isn't doing service to anyone by being a vet, all he is doing is to exploit the genuine concern of pet owners at the expense of the animals. And for what? Money and ego? This is what his higher education and "over 30 years of experience" has boiled down to? How pathetic. read more

Lynden Veterinary Hospital has treated our parrots since 2008: Parky, the Quaker, was the first. (My brother calls him the psycho bird from hell, but Dr Berry just holds Parky in his hand and kisses the top of his head with no problem.) The hospital has also treated our adopted birds: Cisco, our beautiful Eleanora Cockatoo; Citron, our Jenday Conure; and Tilly, my wife's rescue Cockatie. In all of our visits over fifteen years, we have had positive experiences with both Drs Berry and Look as well as with the personnel in the office and the veterinarians' assistance. Dr. Berry recently treated our egg-bound cockatiel, Tilly. When I called first thing Monday morning, the front desk personnel listened to what I thought was the problem, asked me to wait on the line while they talked with Dr Berry, and then asked me how quickly we could get the bird in. After a one-hour drive (We live a long way from our Vet.), I left Tilly to be examined. Dr Berry soon called to discuss options for treatment. When the first, non-invasive treatment, wasn't sufficient, he called to advise me on further treatments. They were successful. She's back home and recovering nicely. (Fingers crossed) I would write more, but this review is already too long for some to read, so just know that we are grateful to the doctors and the rest of the folks at Lynden Veterinary Hospital. read more

Do not recommend for chameleons or really any in depth issue. Dr Berry is friendly but dismissive and assistance were untrained in handling. I have a chameleon who had a small lump in the front of his left eye which swelled and I looked around for a good exotic vet that was close and found this vet. The positioning of the swelling on the eye appeared to be closer to that of a sinus issue. I took my chameleon in to Dr Berry and told him my concern, he brushed it off and said "it's just a scratched cornea" and gave me some topical antibiotics. The antibiotics helped bring the overall swelling down but the lump toward the front of the eye was still there and a new lump appeared on the top of my chameleons head. We went back for a calcium shot during the course of the treatment and I overheard him telling another person that her dog was just suffering from a "cornea scratch." I guess they're going around huh? After the antibiotics were up the lump in the front still was not better and the top of the head lump got larger as well. He was a bit rough with my guy but at least this time more willing to think outside the scratched cornea box. He wanted to try and get something out of the head lump and took my chameleon so that he could do the minor operation. The assistant came in to get the chameleon from me and she tried to grab him from the top down - anyone who knows anything about chameleons knows this is a big no no! He of course panicked and latched further onto me cutting my hands up while trying to bite her which caused her to pull harder. I told her to let go and had to walk her through how to pick him up without seriously injuring me, him, or her. Dr. Berry told me he couldn't get anything out of the lump with a needle and gave me oral baytril to continue with. We did the baytril and the lump on his eye and head got worse as well as moving to the right eye. This is when I said screw it and called up more experienced vets down south and started seeing one in Kirkland. The new vet I have been seeing started my chameleon on injection antibiotics, did a culture swab of the eye, listened to my concerns about sinus issues and treats me like I'm not an idiot. Turns out that my chameleon has a strain of bacteria that is a pain to treat and resistant to Baytril. Oh, and it is in fact infected in his sinuses. We have been going through rounds of treatments, the vet helped express some of the puss (something I had mentioned to Dr. Berry which he had brushed off - chameleon puss is a lot thicker.) Part of the reason this stupid infection is still ongoing is because of Dr. Berry's ignorance, if he had done his job a little better the infection would not have gotten as far into the sinus as it has. If back in July he had helped figure out what was really going on my chameleon wouldn't still be battling to keep one of his eyes now in nearly November. read more

I just brought Mr. G. , my 15 to 17 year old cat, home from Lynden Vet Hospital. A tremendous weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I was afraid Dr. Berry would suggest the little fellow be put down because he hasn't been eating well for the past two weeks. Turns out that he has severe arthritic inflammation in his spine. Dr. Berry reckoned he was in so much pain that he couldn't eat and recommended a series of cold laser treatments to relieve the inflammation. Mr. G. was offered Royal Canin Recovery food while the technician did the procedure, which I'm assured doesn't hurt at all. He was so busy eating the food - right out of the can - that he could barely even growl at her while she worked on the inflamed discs. I feel this is his first giant step on the road to recovery. I would mention that I took Mr. G. to LVH for a second opinion because, after several trips to Kulshan Vet Hospital, he wasn't improving. I am so glad I did, and I'll be switching both my cats to LVH. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Dr. Berry and staff! I will be recommending you to anyone who asks for a vet in the Lynden area. Since my regular vet was not available I brought my hen to Lynden Veterinary for a deep non-healing wound with an infection that had spread to the abdomen, which was swollen. Berry made a poor impression for a first time visit: He did not introduce himself, was abrupt, and was rough in handling an animal that was clearly in pain. To lend some objectivity, over the last ten years I have seen three different veterinarians at Kulshan Vet who have always been gentle and compassionate with my hens. He also didn't even clearly visualize the wound--I personally had to move the feathers aside to encourage him to actually do a thorough exam. He then prescribed antibiotics at 7 times (and I'm being conservative) the proper dosing. I only knew to investigate further because I am an RN. I referenced the dosing myself and also contacted my regular vet clinic to confirm this. Overdosing to this extreme can be fatal. And to top things off, I, a 5'4" petite female was about to carry the large box containing my hen out the door when the exam was completed. Berry didn't have the courtesy to open the door for me to let me out of the exam room, despite seeing that my hands were full. Fortunately, once I got out to the lobby, his receptionist was much more well-mannered than he and got the door for me on my way out. Sounds like he is great with fur-covered animals but he should not be treating avians; I won't be back. read more

My dwarf holland lop went into GI stasis last year when the winter storm hit and I called the vet and they took him immediately. He was there two nights and I wasn't sure if he would make it but they gave him a series of shots and got things moving again. I'm very grateful for the staff in handling my bunny and answering all of my questions...I had a lot. Now my bunny is as happy and healthy as ever...pellets free! Our parakeet was obviously dying, head could not stand up, couldn't stay on her perch, laid on the cage bottom for hours and couldn't eat or drink. It was very sad and my partner brought her in to be put down. He was talked into trying to save her and after 3 days of overnight care, medication, and hundreds of dollars later, she of course, died. We reluctantly paid the vet bills and then LVH went on to charge for removal and when that bill wasn't paid promptly because we had just paid unexpected hundreds trying to save her, they tacked on 4.50 monthly for late fees and finance charges and refused to drop the charges after calling them and explaining the financial burden their charges created. Social security doesn't pay much.. We pay our bills so paid the whole bill including the extra charges. The fees added up to 17 dollars on a 43.00 bill To say Lynden Veterinary took advantage of us is putting it mildly. BEWARE read more

I went here, because I thought my dog would be well cared for. I and my pet had a very bad experience. Went in to see why she was scooting on her but, they told me it was an infection, then they shaved her so short around the vulva and back end. When they were done the look on my puppy's face was pain and fear. It was awful. Got her home and she was so misarable from being cut way to short. Off to animal emergency care for pain pills. This could have all been prevented, I'm sure she did not have an infection, I think her anal glands had to be surpressed, that's all. Will never go back to this place. In February I had a boxer puppy that had an accident, it was closing time for them, but they still took their time to help me to see what was wrong with my baby. Melisa and April took very good good care of him while he was there, unfortunately they couldn't do anything to save him, but I got to stay with him until he took his last breath. Dr. Berry did everything he could and more to help me and my family, since I was in school he helped me with a great discount. I'm new to Lynden and one of the world's biggest animal lovers, so am very selective about finding a new place to provide care for my pets. Additionally, a stray kitty appeared in my yard shortly after I arrived and I needed to have her checked out and spayed, if necessary. Dr. John Berry, Jobi, Laura, Liz, and Melissa are beyond awesome and I am thrilled to have found this clinc. They are very genuine in their interactions with both my cat and the stray kitty, who did need to be spayed and had it done promptly. Dr. Berry not only is informative and professional about discussing medical issues, but he talks about the emotional/caring side of things like another animal lover would be expected to. I brought my cat in for a check up at Lynden Vet Hospital after hearing good things about Dr. Berry. I was greeted by a very friendly staff and put into a room promptly. The vet assistant was very gentle with my cat who can be hard to handle at times. I also brought my cat in for a dental at LVH and again was happy with the experience; all questions were answered with detail and I felt as though the staff genuinely cared about my cats health. read more

CRESTED GECKO OWNERS BEWARE. Went in with my Crested Gecko, Pastrana, today to get his back checked out thinking it was some sort of break or MBD setting in. At first Dr. Berry seemed great, he said he has 23 years of experience with reptiles and he was saying things initially that matched up with what all of my research had been telling me. He decided that Pastrana had a fracture. He gave Pastrana a Calcium Gluconate injection and said to come back once a week for the next three weeks to have more injections done to jump start the calcium absorption into his system. He then began to tell me that I should keep Pastrana at 85-90 degrees while he's healing to boost his immune system. Those temperatures are very dangerous for a CRESTED GECKO. He then began talking about how pet stores give wrong information (ex. suggest keeping lizards on sand even though it can cause impaction) even though Cresties that I have seen are never kept on sand, even in stores, because they are a TROPICAL ARBOREAL species not a desert ground dweller! It became apparent that maybe this vet didn't know as much as he claimed. That would have been fine until they did the fecal float and determined he had some parasite eggs in his system and needed an Ivermectin injection. One of the assistants came in this time, I didn't catch her name and she isn't listed on his website, she didn't seem to know what she was doing and asked me to hold him so she could give him the shot. He was not happy at all after receiving this second injection, his mouth was gaping, his tail was wagging and twitching and he was trying to bite us, when we first tried to pick him up to get him back in his carrier. I asked her to leave him alone to calm down for a minute and instead of waiting and letting me get him on my own she tried to pick him up again. (Why in such a rush to get us out of the room? It was already closing time no one else should have been coming in at that point.) He darted off the counter onto the floor and then tried to run back underneath the counter. She grabbed him (by his legs, she claims, I couldn't see around her to tell for sure) because apparently they have a hole underneath the counter that goes into the wall. (Why isn't this patched up in a vet clinic that deals with animals small enough to fit inside such a hole like lizards, snakes, mice, and rats?) He dropped his tail but we got him back into his carrier nonetheless. What really made me angry was that the assistant went to confer with Dr. Berry and came back saying that he should be fine because the tail drop is a natural defense mechanism (it is) and it will grow back. OK. Stop right there. Grow back? Anyone who has worked with Cresties at all, or even done a bit of research via Google will know that CRESTED GECKOS DO NOT GROW THEIR TAILS BACK. Thinking maybe he had meant the little nubs that regrow in place of their tails I asked the other assistant who was helping me if I could speak with him personally, she came back and said he was busy working with two other clients at once but that he said to keep the cage clean and if I was worried I could put some Neosporin on the area to prevent infection while it healed up but don't worry, it will grow back. This was my first, AND LAST visit to this vet clinic with ANY reptile. I currently own ten crested geckos, I have had a bearded dragon before, and I'm looking into ball pythons. Under no circumstance will I take any of them to this vet. Even if he is more experienced with a different species of reptile. When I called yesterday to ask about them being able to see a crested I specifically asked if they had worked with the species before and was told that yes, they had seen many crested geckos. Apparently this was not the case because if they had seen this species before they should have been more knowledgeable about care requirements and the species behaviors. I have a recommendation for other crestie owners (from other crestie owners and breeders in Western Washington): Dr. Kamaka in Mount Lake Terrace. I didn't want to drive that far from home for an initial visit and thought I would try Dr. Berry since I didn't see any negative reviews for him while I was looking but unless I receive another recommendation from other crested gecko owners that is closer to home I will be heading down to Dr. Kamaka for all future veterinary visits for my cresties. read more

He saw us through torn ACL's, horrible allergies and skin conditions, ear infections, low thyroid problems and the walk over the Rainbow bridge of our dearly loved female Shiba Inu. Dr Berry often prescribes medicines for pet stores that he hasn't even seen. This is against the law. The pet stores call him and say they have a animal with an illness and Dr Berry happily prescribes antibiotics. Apparently Dr Berry needs to go back to school because he could be sanctioned by the state veterinary board for this. My dog was also mis diagnosed there and given the wrong medication. This eventually ended his life. When I worked at a local pet store he gave a canary the wrong medication and killed her. I have worked with birds on a professional level for 25 years and I even told him it was the wrong medicine. He refused to listen and gave it anyway and she died a very short time after. read more

Best veterinarian I have EVER been to. I started going here after I adopted a rat that had a tumor. I did not know she had any health issues until I drove up to Vancouver, and noticed her tumor when loading her into the car. As I had just put one of my adorable ratties down less than a month prior due to inoperable tumors, I was very sad to discover that she had one. However, I took her home and was determined to take care of the problem immediately. When my rat with the tumors (that I had just put down) became VERY ill, I called about 6 different vets in the Bellingham area, trying to find someone with experience in rats who could see him asap. At least 3 of the places I talked to recommended Dr. John Berry, the main vet and owner of Lynden Vet. I ended up taking him somewhere that was closer, but when I needed my new girl checked out, I immediately called Lynden Vet. I took her in a few days later and was told she needed surgery. I got her in August and had to put her down in January. In less than 6 months we made MANY visits to Lynden vet for her various health issues and she underwent two surgeries there. Every single time we went we were met by someone friendly at the front desk and were immediately brought back to a room. Dr. Berry was EXTREMELY knowledgeable about rats and did everything he could to help my girl. I was a college student at the time and they saw that I was willing to do anything to help my rat, and they did many things for free or a discounted price. They would call me and say they did an x-ray (NO charge), or that my girl needed to stay at least a night and gets IV's, and when one night turned into two, they charged me only for the first night and only the first round of meds. When I had to put her down, I brought my other rat (they were bounded by this point) and my boyfriend and roommate. They did not seem to think it was weird that that many people came along and were so sweet and sympathetic. I could say SOOOO much more about how great Lynden Vet is and everyone who works there. I have since moved to Oregon and have not found a Vet that begins to compare, I don't think I ever will. read more

The staff are so loving and caring. We have used them for many years unfortunately they recently assisted in the departure of our sweet loving Wheaton Terrier, Bentley. He was our loyal companion for 11 short years. He went to work with us every day and brought joy to many people, photographed over and over as he had such a loving sweet face. They went out of there way to comfort us and gave us as much time as we needed to be with him prior to and after his passing. We no longer have any pets at home but if we should ever heal from Bentley's passing, Lynden Veterinary Hospital is the ONLY place We would ever take a member of our family. Words cannot express how grateful my wife and I are for Dr. Berry and the staff of Lynden Veterinary Hospital! It was so painful to watch my "doghter", my companion for the past 15 years, succumbing to effects of old age and physical degradation. Having just moved to Lynden, I had no idea where to take my baby as she entered her final twilight years, but God guided us to LVH and you made the transition for my princess (and for us) very caring, compassionate and understanding as we held my girl and said good-bye.
