My first time was with Michele, and I loved hearing her story and passion about creating a talented and calm space for her art. She is compassionate and great at serving her clients! Loved my hair after! It's really a wonderful, clean, and serene spot. The last two times I was with Ali, and I loved my hair each time! As a busy stay at home mom, I usually only get my hair done once in a while so having it look good for the long term is a must. The first time around I specifically came in bc I was getting some family photos done for the holidays. I had some long layers and balayage (I'll attach some of the family photos done by Alyssa Vanzo Photography so people can see!) Most recently I came in to get my hair darkened and shorter. The website answers any and all questions about your cut, color, or wax in advance, with a demystifying FAQ page and a full before and after care list. My service was ~30 minutes long and I felt totally comfortable for the duration. Nitty Gritty goes out of their way to ensure their salon is an LGBTQ+ safe space - there's specific information on waxing if you're transitioning, an ask for pronouns at the time of registration, and a truly welcoming atmosphere for all. This alone will keep me coming back and supporting, but the fact that the service is so top notch is a nice added bonus. The reviews don't lie, Nitty Gritty is the best. Stefania (Metro owner) was the only stylist I could find that was able to help. That was many years ago. The new place on University is beautifully appointed and the service is always wonderful. Stefania and her crew bend over backwards to please. After the winter lockdown of 2020 my roots grew in so much I decided to 'just embrace the gray'. My hair is not a pretty shade of gray however. Stefania now adds just the right amount of color to make it attractive. I'm very happy with it. Before Metro I had been all over town looking for someone who could 'do it right'. I find this surprising as if they really cared about the pandemic they should have a mask policy in place and other protocols. I spoke to Crystal on the phone and she was extremely friendly and understanding when I explained my reluctance. I told her I had found a picture of the cut that I wanted and asked if I could send it to her. She was more than willing to take a look and called me back within minutes to not only assure me that she could do it, but she gave me some suggestions on how to make it even better. I met with her and she began cutting and continued to stop and ask me questions about the length and how I felt about her continuing or asking if I wanted to try it out for a couple of days and then come back if I wanted it shorter. Arrived 15 mins early and walked into bouquet that sells products and clothes. I was escorted to a set of chairs to wait for my time. I was seated in a high traffic area that everyone walks by. I waited 20 mins in the chair. Was not offered anything to drink. Another lady came in and the tech said let me get you a glass of wine. No one even acknowledged that the tech was running late. Upon entering the pedicure/nail area I noticed it was a very loud environment. For $60 for a pedicure I expected more. Asena was friendly but you can tell either she was rushed or new. I had quit a bit of dead skin around my cuticles still after and had to ask her to do it again. I was then placed under a fan which didn't cover all my toes to dry and was blowing cold air. I saw a dryer open and asked to move under it and it had heat. I didn't noticed the spa music playing at all until I was getting ready to leave as that is how noisy it was.
