What a wonderful experience I had today at the salon. I was pleasantly surprised by the gracious service and my bouncing & behaving hair. I give it 5 stars because of the customer service. I was greeted by the receptionist and immediately escorted to the shampoo area where I had the best shampoo EVER. Then my hair was set on these ginormous rollers and I sat under the dryer for abt 30min. The rollers were removed and I was greeted by Hazel my stylist. I explained it was my 1st time and I found the salon on "yelp". She thanked me for choosing their salon. She did a great job on my hair.....cut & style. Horrible 0-10 I been going to them since I was a little girl I came in the other day for a sew in THE OWNER DID my hair she asked could she trim it I said yes as start cutting my hair my face was in my phone not only was the sew in horrible I had tracks showing all around because she decided to double the bundles without cutting the style didn't even last me more than 2 days when I took my hair out I see she chopped my hair not even trim like I'm so upset I will never go back to them again they have truly fell off! Nancy put something in my head that was way to Tight and I was there for a long period of time trying to take it out my hair and I was late to work because of it. I would not recommend her for ponytails or anything other than blow drying or straightening the hair. She don't know how to do ponytails don't go to her for ponytail. read more

So upon entering I was greated warmly and with being new to the area I wanted to give this place a shot. I went on a Tuesday so I was able to be washed right away. Very thorough with the wash I must say and I immediately went under the dryers with my rollers. Let me tell you, if you don't like heat, these dryers are not for you. I typically spend at least an hour for my thick hair to be fully dry, I promise you 20 minutes and she said "come mami" lmao. That's how powerful those dryers are. Like most Dominican salons this one is primarily Spanish speaking and its walk ins only. Follow this procedure: 1. Walk in and stop at front desk 2. Tell receptionist what you want, s/he'll (this time it's a male) give you a slip and direct you to the styling area. 3. A shampooer will give you the shampoo and condish of your life then she will "set" you in (rollers) 4. Then you'll sit under a dryer. Your stylist will then come get you. To African American Naturals who are thinking about trying a Dominican Salon: Most Dominicans share the same hair type as African Americans with natural hair. If you are African American with Natural Hair and are sensitive about the amount of heat and pressure that is applied to your hair, DO NOT come here or any Dominican salon. The Dominican way of detangling and styling hair yields a soft bouncy texture that lasts, however, there is a process to achieve these results without chemicals. I am natural (3 years) and there are times where I just don't feel like doing my hair and at their prices, I am always in! I have been here twice and I have not experienced breakage or heat damage simply because I start off with a head of strong healthy hair. If you know you are prone to breakage, your hair may not be strong enough for this styling process. Because this place is really popular and offer great pricing, you may feel like you are being rushed or someone is being impatient with you. Remember this isn't a hair spa. You will get in and get out with no frills or special treatment. I walked in and there were literally 15 women (all of different shapes colors and hair textures) waiting, and I walked out. Never again. I went to Tatinan's for a blowout and flat iron on my mid-back length natural hair. I was never greeted upon entering the establishment. After getting someone to talk to me, I specifically asked if the person that was to do my hair was experienced with natural kinky african american hair. I was told and I quote, " yes, that is what they do" and handed a little white slip. The woman who shampooed my hair took the little slip from me, then just pointed towards the shampoo station and grunted which meant I was to follow her and sit at the shampoo bowl. Before she began washing my hair, she wrote "brush $10" on the back of the slip and handed it to me. After my shampoo, she again pointed towards the station where she would detangle my hair. She then proceeded to detangle my hair using a fine tooth comb from the root to tip, and anyone with kinky hair knows this is just a nono. First you do not use a fine tooth comb, and second you detangle from the bottom up. After detangling the third small section of my hair, with a lot of frowns and sighing heavily she stopped abrubtly, tapped my shoulder as if to ask for the little slip which I handed over to her. She scribbled out the "brush $10" she had written originally and wrote "$15" in it's place then shoved the slip back at me. Aparently she felt she should have charged more for detangling. I was appalled. Never have I been treated so rudely for a service I was paying for. The rest of the visit consisted of pointing, grunting, sighing with dismay and frowns. The woman never spoke a single word to me. My total bill was $51.0I have no problem with paying extra because my hair is very thick and long. I do have a problem with the delivery. There were no words explaining the increase in price, just grunting, tapping my shoulder, and pointing. Unacceptable, unprofessional behavior. The only reason I did not walk out of there is because I am in town for a wedding and had no where else to go on short notice. Not sure how this place got 4 stars...it is a standard hair salon. You mostly will like the texture and final result of your hair but the experience of being there is completely opposite! I went on a Saturday morning just to get a perm and wash and set and it Took almost 2 hours just for someone to get to me. There were several clients just getting wash and sets who were served in the meantime even those who came 30 minutes after me. I guess only 2 people know how to do a perm smh. Other things I did not like: 1) most of the hairdressers felt that it was ok to put their hands in clients' clean hair after eating empanadas with their hands 2)The receptionist changed a baby's diaper on the Seats where clients were sitting underneath the dryers. 3) the person that was doing my perm didn't speak English so I couldn't even tell her when my head was burning. I had to tell another woman who didn't speak English that well that it needed to be washed out... read more

Been coming for about a year. But I think today is the last day. After 7 weeks , I was ready to get a relaxer. Almost 30 weeks pregnant, I decided to take time from my busy schedule to do something for me. Instead I had to deal with the woman who does relaxers, who was just as rude as can be. Huffing and puffing like its so difficult to relax my hair because of new growth. "You don't brush your hair?" is the response I got from her while relaxing my hair. I work close to 45 hours a week, pregnant, and have a toddler at home, I don't need the attitude from someone I AM paying. Sorry. And she will not be getting a tip either. Whatever. They gave me chemical burns on my scalp from bleach that wasn't even supposed to be there to begin with an ombre has no bleach on the scalp I was there for hrs in pain and agony crying for them to take the bleach off... But they didn't understand English... My hair was yellow and not ombre... I asked for them to just dye it black begging and pleading so they did I walked out of the salon with an unknown colour bcoz my hair was soaking wet.. I refused to pay and they said they would call the police... Unprofessional and NOT knowledgeable with hair colour at all! If your not Spanish or bring a translator do not get anything done to your hair!!!!! read more

Very inconsistent service! I went there once to do a specific cut. After explaining what I wanted, the stylist proceeded to cut my hair. The final result was less than pleasing. I informed her that it wasn't exactly what I wanted, to which she responded with a displeased grunt ("I'm sorry, am I inconveniencing you at work?") of course I did not say that aloud. I just politely stood my ground. After finally getting it, but blaming me for explaining it wrong (even though I showed her a picture) she was able to salvage the haircut. I absolutely loved the end result even though the hassle was annoying. Which is why I went back for a trim. Worst mistake. The same lady was there. I thought it would be simple since I still had the past haircut. Wrong. She misunderstood "trim" for "completely new hairstyle". WORST haircut of my entire life!!! It beats mom haircuts when I was a kid. And she looked as if I were bothering her simply by walking in. I strongly recommend you search elsewhere for a cut. read more

Tatinan's is great. They are quick and good. Even when it's crowded, you can be assured you won't be in there all day.. They have 2 areas. First area is shampoo and curler roll, then next is blow dry... They are really good and although most speak just spanish, they do have a few that speak english and even the ones that speak spanish, understand what you want to have done to your hair. I've gotten blow outs and nice styles and both were done well beyond what I was expecting... No appointments, walk in's only... But you won't spend all day, sitting, wasting time.... read more
