We sought a second opinion from Dr. Dorf. Now, Dr. Dorf is a straightforward guy - about as straightforward as they come - but he is also a professional and he didn't bash the previous doctor, but the look of complete puzzlement by this previous diagnosis was difficult for him to hide. He felt he could give immediate relief with a cortisone shot - which he administered himself. The previous doctor told us that even with his 35 years of experience he couldn't get a shot in the right place without ultrasound guidance. Dr. Dorf didn't have this issue. He was confident he could get it in the right place - and he did. Again, the puzzlement was difficult to hide - but no bashing. ;-) After reviewing the MRI provided by Panorama (the same MRI the previous doctor used for his diagnosis) he gave us the opinion that he could scope her shoulders and give her years of less pain and he did not feel that replacement was something that should even be on our radar. She had bone spurs, partially torn rotator cuffs, arthritis, scar tissue. Dr. Dorf "clobbered" the spurs, fixed the cuffs, took out the biceps tendon and cleaned up the rest. Why couldn't the other doctor do that? Perhaps skill has something to do with it. What a difference. Our original diagnosis was disturbing to say the least, but i guess when all you have is a nail, the answer is always a hammer. Dr. Dorf is on a whole different level. To put it bluntly, this guy knows his shit and isn't afraid to do the right thing for his patient - even if that requires some stern advice on recovery from time to time. Additionally his support staff is awesome. Annie in particular was so great. She called us promptly every time we had questions and didn't mess around when it came to making sure my wife was taken care of in the best way possible. My wife also had trapeziectomy on both of her thumbs. the result is 2 thumbs, way up! If you go to Dr. Dorf prepare yourself for great care, great advice and counseling, and most of all - great confidence that the right thing is being done by the right people. Hopefully Dr. Dorf lives forever because we plan to, and we will never use another orthopedic doctor. Thanks Doc. :-)

Her office staff was professional. The wait time was less than 10 minutes. Perfect doctor for a RUNNER!!!!!!! Because she actually runs! Extremely intelligent lady and knows her stuff (even knows all the dates for the races in Colorado). X-rays are done in office as soon as she orders them. She doesn't mess around or waste time. As a highly active forty-four year-old rock climber and triathlete, I was diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis in my left hip. I continued to do sports at a high level; however, my pain became increasingly difficult to manage, and I eventually reached out to Dr. Rector to discuss treatment options. He recommended Birmingham Hip Resurfacing (BHR) as the best procedure for my specific condition. It was extremely important to me that my surgeon understood my post goal surgical objective was to continue with a high level of activity as quickly as practical. I communicated my objectives to Dr. Rector, and we set goals to support my intentions. In October 2009, Dr. Rector performed Birmingham Hip Resurfacing surgery on my left hip with outstanding results. I immediately experienced relief from pain, and subsequently regained full range of motion. I returned to rock climbing and competing in triathlons within a year after my surgery. Six years after my BHR, I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my right hip, and in September 2015 Dr. Rector performed total hip replacement surgery on my right side. Once again my pain was almost immediately relieved, and my range of motion was virtually perfect. I was climbing in the gym eight weeks after surgery, biking at ten weeks, and running pain free eight months post operatively. At one year, my physical condition has returned 100 percent, and I have no restrictions on any of my former and present activities. I highly recommend Dr. Rector and his team at BoulderCentre for Orthopedics. I found and continue to feel that Dr. Rector treated me with extreme professionalism, and obviously I have complete trust and faith in his work. The encounter I experienced with anesthesiologist Dr Woodward who had My Life in his hands... was horrific. I did not feel safe!!!!! A horrible feeling while completely vulnerable. His ego, OMG. I hope the hospital HR reads this and contacts me. No call from anesthesia night prior- even tho I was told they would contact me- I had concerns, and questions. When I tried to have a pre-op conversation with DR Woodward, He shut me down repeatedly. All he cared about was my signature. Hurry up! Sign this. He just wanted to start. Seriously an absolute traumatic awful feeling. He was barking at the pre op nurse to hurry up with my IV. She was clearly rattled by him. My IV "blew". I complained. She made the decision to start another. He was clearly pissed at her decision and let me know "there is nothing sharp, nothing is hurting you". (As if at 66 years old I didn't know what an IV should feel like?") The second one started to hurt before it was in, now he got really pissed- he repeated his "nothing sharp statement", (I'd love to kick him in his testicular place and tell him it should not hurt because there is nothing sharp!" The nurse was trying her best to hurry under his command. Then he grabbed the mask. He couldn't bother with my needs. He just wanted to shut me up. He put me out! From the time he first introduced himself to the time he knocked me out- 6 minutes tops! Before the IV. In the pre-op room!! WTF???? I verbally told him I was anxious. My chart shows PTSD. I was actually crying! His action was far from "STANDARD of CARE"! He provided none of the bedside courtesy such as-"I'm doing this, next is this."----- Did I forget all this when I woke up? Nope! It is seared in my memory. Dear Dr Woodward- I am a kind person with a soul, not simply a case number and YOU did me very very wrong!! VERY VERY WRONG!!! I pray for GOD to touch you and help you understand how your negligent actions affect others. I deserved respect. I deserved kindness. I received neither. Maybe you should consider another line of work. The shoulder block you rushed to do was incorrectly placed numbing my diaphragm thus sending me home on oxygen (Your skill falls very short of your elevated ego). As I came out of anesthesia I I heard you tell the OR nurse that my heart rate dropped to 30 so u gave me a medication to correct this. I reported hearing this to my husband because it was concerning. I just read the surgical anesthesia report you prepared. You falsified the record indicating my heart rate fell to 40 not 30. You going to tell me I misheard?? Nope! I believe falsely documenting medical records is a crime!! I've had many (5) major surgeries including anesthesia. I'm fully educated on what a Standard of Care should be.

However, I was able to get an assessment of several radiologists - the consensus opinion was that at best, the difference was 1/8th of an inch. Most people go through life not knowing that one leg may be up to an inch longer than the other. So a maximum difference is a bulls eye. I deleted my initial comment once I got a good report. Loucks is an outstanding surgeon.

I had to wait an additional 3 weeks for an appointment with Dr. Loucks at which time he spent all of 10 minutes with me telling me I had been walking around on a broken femur.. I am still having pain. I had to pursue what kind of exercise I could do. The only thing he offered was to get treated for osteoporosis.
