M&M Thread Salon - Before + After - Threading Services Near Me - Berkeley, California

I saw another review similar to my experience. But basically my friend and I walked in around 6:10ish after rushing over from class because we knew they were closing around 6:30. We've gone to M&M before, but time when we walked in she seemed very annoyed at us and asked us why we didn't come in earlier. My friend and I both sat in the chair for probably less than a minute each for her to thread our brows, but when she finished she just told us to switch and didn't show us the mirror. We didn't ask to see because we figured, we've come in many times before and our eyebrows have been great each time. Afterwards she rushed for us to pay and since we felt guilty that we came in late, we gave her a bigger tip. When we left and got back into the car to take a closer look at our brows, both my friend and I realized that our left brows were too thin and our right brows were barely touched and still hairy!! We couldn't help but think that she did it on purpose. We went to another threading salon to fix our right brows and it took us a month to grow out our left brows. Can't take anymore chances so we are definitely NOT going back to M&M. read more

Bad experience! Stumbled upon this salon today at around 1pm and thought I'd give it a go. I have never had a worse experience at a threading salon! After waiting ten minutes for her to finish a conversation with a man who was obviously not a costumer, she finally addressed me. I asked for her to cleanup my eyebrows, but keep them thick. In less than 5 minutes, she finishes and I think "wow, she must be a pro to finish that quickly!" I was unfortunately wrong. She missed many places with unruly hair. I had to ask her three separate times to clean up the areas and each time she rushed and seemed to be annoyed, even though I was LITERALLY THE ONLY COSTUMER IN THE STORE! I finally asked her to trim my right eyebrow on the side a bit, as most threading places do, and she loudly replied "I did already!" and trimmed a completely different area. It wasn't until I got home that I realized she didn't trim the area I specifically pointed to and that she didn't even pluck my unibrow area. Was left with several hair patches that were obviously not apart of the shape of my eyebrow and missing hairs. I literally could have done the job she did by myself and better. Could have saved myself $11. I will never come again!! read more

I've been to the M&M on M.L.K. a few times and was so excited to see that they opened up another shop on Durant near campus. The service is always great but today I was lucky and got to meet REEMA! I've been getting my eyebrows threaded for years and have never had an experience better than today. She is friendly and sweet and did a FANTASTIC job on my eyebrows! She took her time to make sure I got what I wanted and it didn't hurt one bit. This was a personal first for me (I have super thick hair lol). Also the aloe massage at the end was just tops. If you're new to threading or just picky (like me) when it cones to your eyebrows definitely request Reema :). I will definitely be going back to her. P.S. Five stars for Reema!!! I have been going to M&M (MLK) for about 3 years now because they do a pretty good job with my eyebrows. However, Reema did an exceptional job with my eyebrows last week. I love that she took her time (the others finish really fast) and was extremely gentle. I hardly even felt anything when she threaded my eyebrows. I had a great conversation with her and she is just a super sweet and kind person. Not only did my eyebrows look great but I enjoyed the process because she continued to talk to and made me feel really comfortable! I definitely recommend her to everyone! Bad experience, very disappointing regarding the cleanliness of the "cabin" and the global quality fo the services. I am currently in holidays and was looking for a nice place to wax my eyebrows and have a facial, it was close from my hotel so I tried here at M&M Durant St. The entrance of the salon was ok and nice, so I went on and I was happy that the lady was free to take care of me. But, when I came in the cabin hidden at the back of the store I was starting to be very dubtful : a little room, not very clean, with a non-engaging and moving "treatment table". And it was dirty to the possible : nor protective paper, nor clean head towels which were full of wax stains (I hope...) and yellow/brown strains. Beurk !! As I unfortunatly not speak very good English and because I was feeling uneasy, I unfortunatly didn't escape with the hope it was just the "relaxed" mood of Berkeley in general and that it was perhaps a very good beauty center, who knows ? So, I had the full facial service, not so bad but really not empressive. Products didn't gave me allergy fortunatly but some of them were stinking the laundry detergent so they were not pleasant for me. The hand movements of the lady for the massage were certainly professionnal but sometimes too brutal, the semi-back massage too short. And it's the first time someone tries to clean my skin from blackheads with warm wax directly on the nose !! It is incredible and really unpleasant !! And after, not well done as she didn't extract blackheads nor in my chin, nor in my forehead. Moreover, as said a previous comment from Lisa, the cabin was not really closed so no way to feel safe and relaxed, I was just with my bra and my pantie under a non professional blanket (like the kind of blanket you find in the dog basket lol) too short so I was cold and I had to put my dress on my feet to hide me and not froze. Another point : the lady was always leaving me alone which is really unprofessionnal at all. She manages to have several clients at the same time so don't expect to be her point of interest during your treatment, it is really not friendly to be left like that on the cabin under the vapor or simply to wait that she has finished her business. Last point : the waxing of my eyebrows... a joke.. I am used to go to Benefit or that kind of brand and I had to insist that she waxes under AND above the eyebrows. Plus, She didn't shape them, nor clean correctly the wax, nor make-up them, and I had to ask for some protective cream that it was hurting! Once again, as I am not at ease in speaking English and as I was so shocked that a beauty service could be so non-professionnal, I prefered to say nothing, just to pay and escape from there. I am mainly very surprizsed that it could exist in US as I was thinking that everything was very clean, mainly regarding body treatments. I was in Palo Alto few days ago and had a mani/pedi in a classic salon and everything was ok, clean, professionnal. Regarding the price performance ratio, it's quite expensive even if it was only 80$ including tipp, mainly because of the unease sensation of dirt and discomfort. The lady was not unpleasant at all but I don't understand how she can't be shameful of her treatment cabin regarding her clients. read more

This place isnt bad if you are in for just a clean-up, but it's definitely not the the place if you are coming in to get it shaped to your own personal preference. The past 2 times I came here the ladies never did a great job of shaping my eyebrows to the way I want them to be (I even brought in pictures of what my brows used to look like to show them exactly what I want), but both times they have failed to achieve it. read more

Unfortunately, I think the service has declined markedly since my first few months of visiting this location. I think the first month, the threader would really focus on eyebrow shaping, but now she just "cleans up" my stray hairs and doesn't bother to shape my eyebrows or make them symmetrical at all. Worth it to pay twice as much and get my brows waxed at Benefit at this point. Only pros are the price ($10 for eyebrow thread) and proximity to my workplace. read more
