I grew out my eyebrows for 2 months excited to get them cleaned up, and I came to a new spot outside of my regular person in El Cerrito since I recently moved to the neighborhood. I take pride in my thicker eyebrows, and I'm not sure if it was believed to be trendy but I was given the thinnest eyebrows that I have ever received! They also came out uneven, and while my beautician offered to even them out for me I didn't want them any thinner so I left. I hope they grow back sooner than later. I do not recommend coming here for any service based on my experience today. And if you look at my list of reviews, the vast majority are positive and I only have a total of 2 one star reviews (including this place), so I'm not the type of customer who writes only negative reviews. It's actually the opposite. Majority of the places I review are five stars. I had read through the reviews on Google and here on Yelp for the Oakland location. A handful of the reviews were negative, but I thought that it would be OK to give her a try since majority of the reviews were positive and the photos looked OK. Based on the reviews, I read, I decided to book an appointment today with Rashila Lamsal. Unfortunately, she was not even there today at the Oakland location. I double checked my appointment confirmation to see if I may have missed clicked? But I confirm that I did book it specifically with Rashila. What's interesting is that the esthetician did not introduce herself or tell me that Rashila was not available, but it was pretty clear to me that she was not her since her photo is on the website...eventually I asked her what her name was. Honestly, I also knew it wasn't her because I remember reading an old review that had said the same exact thing--that they booked with Rashila but she wasn't there. So I decided to proceed with this person, I honestly forgot her name but it may have started with S. She is nice but she rushed the entire appointment. She explained to me that the person before me who was a wax appointment was late, and then there was a walk in behind me, but it's unfair that my appointment was clearly rushed. She did an ok job with threading. Okay for me means she didn't knick my skin and my eyebrows were not pencil thin (technically she knicked me a tiny bit once, but it wasn't too bad). But overall, my brows were thinner than I preferred. I had mentioned before she started that I do not want them thin. She reassured me that she just cleaned it up so I felt like it was acceptable--I guess--because it didn't look horrible...but I told her what my preference was so it felt a little dismissive. The tinting is actually the problem and why I would not recommend anyone get tinting. I watched her just blotted it on (a little carelessly) and left it for less than two minutes and wiped it off. My issue is how little she cared about the tinting--maybe because the color I asked for was lighter (so there's more room for error when it's light, I get it), but it really turned me off how she did not put any effort into it. What's really embarrassing is that my husband doesn't notice when I do anything beauty wise...but he told me right away that my eyebrows looked really uneven and there was a stream at my eyebrow that was "bald" because there was no tint. I am someone who really cares about the appearance of my eyebrows because I think they really shape your face, and it's frustrating to pay for a service that is sloppy and careless. There was no attention to detail and she left all the excess eyebrow hairs on my face. I guess it could be worse--like she didn't give me pencil thin eyebrows--but I will never come here again. I do not recommend coming here. I only came here because there were so many reviews and the other threading salon I was interested in that my friends go to was a little further (in Pinole). Clearly, I should have made the trip to this other salon, because I am not happy with the service here. read more

Great spot to get your eyebrows threaded! It costs about $15, which is reasonable for the area, and she always does a great job with little discomfort in the process. This location can be a little confusing to access since it's many beauty shops in one - but you just need to dial for Sovan's on the keypad and she'll come get you for your appointment. read more

After going to European wax for about a year I really wanted to get back to threading but wasn't sure where services were available in Oakland. I put out a project request and Sovan's responded within a few minutes of the request. Setting up an appointment was really easy on the website. I actually had to reschedule a few times, which was also super easy. The place is in a building with other studio salons so you have to ring the doorbell for entry, which feels really safe.
