When I first started with this dog walking company, I spoke with the owner Elizabeth who was very reassuring and seemed to have a process in place for getting anxious dogs familiar with their walker. We started off well, with slow meet and greets with our designated walker, and with a plan to start getting my dog familiar with her backup walker. However, after 5 months, they started sending a third walker without notifying me at all. I called and spoke with the owner, who again reassured me. However, this continued to happen, and I learned that our training plan for the backup walker was never communicated. I was redirected to the manager JC, who also stated he would get to the bottom of the issue and solve it, but they continue to send a different walker without notifying me beforehand.

The walkers are very personable, passionate dog-people, and when you get to know them also all busy and motivated individuals with varied interest areas (management, music, real estate, etc.). My Boston Terrier Ollie started "walking" with them in Somerville, MA (Inman Square area) for puppy potty breaks in 2017/8. He was around 3.5 pounds at that time. When our family grew with our other two adopted dogs (Tucker and Tyson) and got more complicated (and we moved to the Winter Hill area), Monumentails was still always there for us! Our dogs are probably the definition of not easy--one is headstrong, one is anxious and leash reactive, and the other is ball-obsessed and leash reactive as well. Instead of telling us they wouldn't walk our dogs, Monumentails took great care with them: having new walkers trained carefully on our dogs (instead of just inviting a new walker into a situation where their hands would be full and our dogs wouldn't be safe), adapting walks based on weather conditions, even checking to make sure our dogs were walking at the right time after eating. Their attention to detail with our dogs, our home, and our neighbors was always appreciated. Our dogs were always safe and incredibly well taken care of. When we left to go out of town, Monumentails was almost always able to help out and stay in our house with our dogs for the duration of our trip. If we were continuing to live in the area, we would absolutely and without a doubt continue to ask them to care for our dogs. For anyone who is looking for a new walker/boarder, I would highly recommend Monumentails and their walkers. Also, a note that Katie--who is an office manager and has helped with email responses on walk changes and boarding--was always incredibly pleasant, helpful and timely with her responses. They're reliable, accommodating, and total dog people. On the very rare occasion that something has gone wrong, they've bent over backwards to address it and make things right. Most importantly, I know that they genuinely care about my dog and her wellbeing, and that when she is in their care they treat her as if she is their own. We'd be lost without them. My dog was abused as a puppy, and while she has proved to be incredibly resilient, there are still certain things that frighten her or trigger anxiety. The Happy Dog team is a) sympathetic, and b) skilled in assessing/implementing how to best help her move forward. Plus, they send adorable pics of my dog when she's out on her walk! We have used countless dog walkers, dog…read moretrainers and doggie day care facilities since adopting our dog Reggie 3 years ago, and Miguel is head and shoulders above the rest. I trust him completely with my sweet Reggie, and I am regularly awed by how he goes above and beyond for our family. First, a bit about Reggie: he is a great dog, a hound rescue who is perfect with our almost-2 year old but loves his family entirely too much. His protective instincts have given rise to aggression more than a few times, and I am reticent to trust him in certain (many) situations. Miguel handles Reggie's... let's politely call it "complex emotions"... absolutely beautifully. Even in the beginning when Reggie was still having a little "stranger danger," Miguel showed no fear and quickly earned Reggie's trust. I first met Miguel when we still lived in Fort Hill. My previous dog walker moved on to other pursuits when my son was born, and when I was preparing to return to work, I contacted Miguel. He handled Reggie beautifully, and I couldn't have been more thrilled with the onboarding process. I loved that PetCheck would give me updates as to when Reggie was picked up and dropped off, and that I could see photos of their adventures. Reggie is always tuckered out, especially after a full "doggie day," which we now do on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Miguel displayed his penchant for going above and beyond the call of duty from the very beginning. One week after I returned to work and Miguel had started working with Reggie, my father suddenly passed away. I immediately called Miguel and left a desperate message asking him to take Reggie that night, and indefinitely, so that we could go sort things out at my family home in PA. Miguel barely knew us, and yet within the hour he was at our door, ready to lift the burden. I can never express in words how grateful I am for that incredible kindness during my darkest hour. Since we moved from Fort Hill to Arlington, Miguel has gone out of his way to work with us so that Reggie can remain a part of the pack. I have observed Reggie in the pack and at Miguel's home multiple times, and I am a little embarrassed to say that he behaves far better in Miguel's care than he does in mine. I trust Miguel completely, and I can't imagine leaving my furbaby with anyone else. He's also saved my bacon more times than I can count, including when I had a dead car battery and he drove me, Reggie, and my infant son to the location of the car and waited with us until AAA arrived. On another occasion when my dopey husband took all the car keys to work and left baby, dog and I stranded at home, Miguel picked the keys up from my husband and delivered them to me at my house where he also picked up Reggie. We are Miguel's client and, I hope, his friend; but I have a sneaking suspicion that he would and does do these good deeds for just about anybody. There are no words to express how strongly I recommend Highland Hounds (but hopefully these words have made a dent). Finding someone you can trust with your fur-family is no small task, and I am so grateful to have found Miguel, Seth, Raheem, Emma and the rest of the team.

Also, Al has a team of walkers so in the unlikely event that your walker gets sick, takes time off, gets abducted by aliens, a back up walker could swoop in and save the doggy day! Also, his walker Patrick has a way of putting nervous momma's at ease too. He seems to know just what to say and just what note to write following his visit with your pup. Also? Unlike another walker we met, Patrick has presence. Your dog won't pull a fast one on this guy nor will any hooligans who may prowl your streets (hey - I live in Framingham).

They are professional, friendly and really care about making you and your dog successful together. (It really is more about training YOU!) After Puppy Kindergarten, they offer five Step programs you can progress through: Attention, Self Control, Real Life Distractions and Canine Good Citizen (CGC). If you want to take the CGC test, they offer that here. They also offer Rally, Utility, Nosework and Competitive Obedience classes if interested. I like the sense of progression you get with this program. They use a check box system to keep track of what you and your dog can do and what you still need to work on. The classes are held at Crate Escape in Belmont. In the summer, classes are held outside in Danehy Park in Cambridge (back of Fresh Pond mall)! The NEDTC program is also flexible. You buy class cards to be used within a certain number of weeks. If you need to miss a class, there is no penalty or lost class. Great program. Encouraging, knowledgeable trainers. Highly recommend!

We have worked with NEDTC with our rescue dog, Gus…read more Gus has now mastered basic training (sit, stay, down, come, touch, paw, leave it, etc.) We are working on loose leash walking and keeping chill in the context of lots of distractions and other dogs who might be seriously scary. The trainers have a lot of patience for the dogs and shape us up as owners pretty well. We have a lot of faith in them, and turn to them with sticky situations/problems that we can't seem to solve ourselves. We have invested a LOT of time and effort into these lessons, because it seems like the right thing to do. Importantly, we have learned to communicate with our dog in a way that we did not fully understand before. This is a great resource and highly recommended.

He takes them on long walks, trips to dog parks, and even hiking. I love that the dogs are free and not stuck inside all day. Eddy is also such an incredible communicator. I always know how the dogs are doing and he sends the cutest photos throughout their stay.
