And this task usually manifests itself in one of two ways if you're going to DIY it: 1). Buy a carpet cleaner from a store like Target or Costco 2). Rent a unit from Home Depot or a grocery store In scenario one, at least in my experience, I quickly found out that the home units are typically under powered and required multiple passes and still never really got the carpets clean. And in scenario 2, these units are usually bulky and awkward to fit into a car (especially a smaller sedan) and I often would have to spend time first cleaning the rented unit (since the previous person left all their gunk and dirty water in the collection reservoir) and it was a mess lugging that big unit sloshing water from room to room. In short, it is a pain having to clean your own carpets. That's why I'm glad I found J&A Carpet Cleaning. I needed to refresh my carpets, and didn't feel like having to perform this myself. One of the owners, Jose, responded to my inquiry within in a hour and after giving him the rough dimensions of the rooms I needed cleaning, he indicated that he would be able to schedule me within a few days. Upon arrival, I showed him the areas which would require a bit more deep cleaning. On the appointed day, Jose arrived early (which I always appreciate) and did walk through the confirm the scope of the job. He first did a dry vacuum of the area, followed by a pre-treatment of stain removers and detergents. And once he was finished with the actual shampooing which included hot water, he also used a brush to condition the material and aid with drying. 12 hours later, my carpets looked almost new! Is is cheaper to Do-It-Yourself if you need to clean your carpets? Sure. But sometimes, if you want better results without the hassle, it's probably a better choice to use a professional.
