We had a wonderful meal here on a Saturday recently. I was surprised they were able to seat us without a reservation, and I wouldn't suggest trying unless it was early- I watched others get turned away as the night went on. We both had the filet, one with fries and one with onion rings, a couple of drinks and the bread pudding dessert. Everything was great. The dessert took quite a while to come out. My husband and I went here for lunch on a Sunday. We were told by an American friend that it is one of the only places in the area that really knows how to make a fresh, delicious, American style burger! Walking up to the restaurant we were impressed by the colors and set-up outside. It was raining but seemed like it would be nice on a sunny day. Our reservation was for the opening time of 12:00 noon. We were the first ones in the restaurant and were gladly given the window seat. We stayed, eating and drinking, for about 2 hours and the restaurant's tables were still only half filled when we left. The ambiance, decor, and reception were great. I loved the retro kind of feel and the way it was mixed with a modern style. The chairs were comfortable to me but a little bit constricting for my man. Service was good. Our waiter was attentive and available but not annoying or overbearing. The food, well, that is why we went and we were NOT disappointed! We started by choosing a special beverage. My husband went with the bartender's choice of barrel-aged whiskey. It tasted amazing and had a hint of honey. I chose a martini made of cherry brandy, Chambord, and fresh basil. It may be my favorite drink ever! The flavors melded together making it smooth with the perfect balance of sweet and sour. For our meals I had the grass-fed Argentinean beef filet with Bernaise sauce, shallot mashed potatoes, and herbed butter. The choices for sauce, side, and butter were a little bit overwhelming but they allow the diner to choose his/her perfect palate of flavors. The steak was cooked perfectly medium, as ordered, with a lovely charred crust and a few delicate sprinkles of coarse sea salt. It was served with a whole, broiled tomato which was not only beautiful but also delicious. My husband had the bacon BBQ burger on a brioche (slightly sweeter than the regular bun) with steak fries. The meal came on an amazing wooden, butcher block type platter. The burger was cooked perfectly to order and was melt-in-your mouth juicy delicious! The BBQ sauce was quite obviously homemade with delicious chunks of tomato and a wonderfully savory smoked flavor. We were too full to try the desserts but will definitely go back soon!! read more

I thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant. A little pricey, but money well spent. The employees were very friendly, despite being an American of color. Wasn't rushed or disappointed about my entire experience. I was able to enjoy each delicious bite. I didn't have a reservation, but instead of waiting for a table for one, I was offered a seat at the bar. It was just me, so that was cool with me, and I was ready to eat. I ordered a 21 oz ribeye medium well and I got it medium well, cooked well on the outside, but pinkish and juicy on the inside. The options of sauces were pretty nice, but the steak itself was flavorful enough, not salty, that the various sauces weren't really needed. I will hit this place again, but I will make a reservation next time. The restaurant is a short walk away from the U-Ban (Neckar Park), so not having transportation wasn't an issue getting there. read more

This place has the best burger in Europe! In addition, they make some very good cocktails. The steaks are delicious but a bit pricey. The burger menu needs to be requested, they normally won't give it to you with their normal menu. Expect to spend around 16-20 euros for a burger meal. Recommend making a reservation for dinner. Every time I went without a reservation, we ended up sitting at the bar. No complaints about sitting at the bar. I always have a great conversation with the bar tender. The restaurant itself is more on the fancy side. They don't have a dress code but I feel more comfortable if I wear a collar shirt. One thing they do need to improve on is the bread. Its always very dry and tasteless. I have eaten here many times and will continue to do so while I am in Germany. read more

I've only been to the [m]eatery twice, but I had fairly good experiences both times. The restaurant is located downtown, around Stadtmitte, so it's convenient for many in the City. The food was excellent. I've been kind of boring recently, so nothing too bold in the way of ordering: pureed potatoes and steak. The potatoes I ordered weren't mashed, they were actually pureed perfectly, which I don't find too often. The steak was classic and good, and cooked accurately well done. Definitely a good restaurant, I'd like to go back and sample more for a wider feel of the place. read more

Kind of nice, staff seem really new and uninformed which stinks of poor management and training. Asked what the oyster of the day was and my waiter didn't know and had to run off for five minutes before returning to tell me there wasn't any at all. Prices are insanely high, dry aged bone in rib eye was way underdone, bordering on blue but burnt on some edges suggesting cooking temp was much too high to procure a medium finish. Marbling was cheap, dried portions not cleanly removed and very tough and rancid tasting. Steak did not finish like a dry aged either, perhaps they age for two weeks and not the six as they advertise. Very disappointing wine list as well, went for still water. read more

After two young colleagues recommended Meatery in Stuttgart, we decided to try it today for my wife's birthday. We were very disappointed (particularly with the steak), and have decided that we find Blockhouse much more enjoyable. I order my steak well-done. It was dry as a bone, actually more like a hockey puck, and one side of the steak was very dark and crusty dry. I told the waitress that I order well-done, but not dried out! I returned my steak, but the family (four of us total) had the filet steak -- ALL were dried out! "Well-done" means without blood, but not dried out like a hockey puck! We will never return there again. Even the replacement steak was better, but also too dry. I think the ovens/grills they use for the steaks are just too hot. I also had the lobster chowder...although it was good, I would say that it had a hint of over darkened about it...suggestion of being too dark/burned. There were also a couple shell chips in the chowder. The onion rings were too greasy (should have been drained better) and totally unremarkable. This restaurant might be for Stuttgart's shicky-micky, but it's not for me! read more

Wannabe steakhouse suffering from poor management. Steaks were not cooked as ordered. Medium was served as rare to bloody rare. Oversalted with a layer of a teaspoon of salt across the steak: granted it was Maldon salt or alike but way too much. An imported New York lager 33 cl is 11 Euros, while 3 Euros in the supermarket. Way too high markup for a regular import beer. Service was not educated trying hard to come across as professional, but made simple mistakes again and again. A glass of wine was over the top, and we asked the bartender/sommelier if he was of the same opinion; answer: "I don't know anything about wine". We did get a new glass from a fresh bottle. The Chopped Salad is very good; but this is a steakhouse!? Concept is good and the raw ingredients are good; but somehow it gets deteriorated on its way to the table; instead of augmented. You are left with the impression that the issue is in mgmt and lack of education of key personnel. The team should do like the waiter in the bar area who does a really good job. read more

Very good restaurant for those who want to enjoy a tasty piece of meat. You can chose between European, American or South American meat with a large choice of cuts. In addition to your meat you select a sider among many, a sauce and a flavored butter. I had a 300g sirloin from Argentina with mashed potatoes with herbs; perfectly cooked.
