This used to be my favorite shakshuka when the restaurant opened. Every time I would come to town I would order it. It's been a few years since I've been for a visit, but it was on my list of must visit spots. Not sure what changed or if it was an off day but it did not taste the same and I didn't care for it. So disappointed. My friend got a mocha and a cinnamon raisin roll. He said they were good. Not sure I'll be back but if I am I'll stick to the pastries next time.

    FRIED EGG SANDWICH

came on valentine's day, a saturday around 11am. line was quite long and waited around 10 mins. service at the register was meh, a bit stiff and colder than i would have liked. french toast (8/10) unfortunately maple syrup was $2.99 extra, but was sitll good without. the bread is egginess without being too much, and is cooked to a good tenderness (soft without being TOO mushy). the blueberry compote is PERFECT with it, balancing the bread with the right amount of sweetness and tartness. the strawberry compote is good too, though i like the flavor and texture change that the blueberry one provides. fried egg sandwich (5/10) the sandwich is oily, and since everything is pretty fried and similar in texture it kinda mushes together. the bacon was way too soft. thankfully the arugula side salad and getting pickled veggies as my side really balances out the sandwich. it provides a good acidity to cut through the oil and saltiness. the carrots were good and not as vinegar-y as i expected (a plus!). the aioli is good, though i wish it provided more flavors. overall, it's a bit bland and i just wish it had some onion/garlic or even a bit of pepper. hot mocha with oat milk (3/10) it was very watery and strong/bitter, so i had to add a packet of sugar and a lot of creamer (thankfully they had a pitcher). not my type would not come back here, unless i really craved the french toast.

Love this place -- hands down my favorite. Parking was surprisingly easy. There's street parking, but we parked across the street in the lot by the music shop (it's closed on weekends, which makes it even easier). Zero stress before carbs -- we love to see it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It has that super local, neighborhood energy where everyone clearly knows exactly what they're ordering before they even walk in. Always a good sign.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The bread basket? Unreal. The soup was divine -- comforting, flavorful, and exactly what you want on a cozy day. And the bread somehow manages to feel indulgent and wholesome at the same time. Warm, hearty, and clearly made with care. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space itself is just as inviting -- warm, relaxed, and effortlessly charming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And the pastries... they looked dangerous in the best way. I didn't even get one this time, which honestly just means I'm definitely coming back for round two. Already planning my next visit.

This was our first visit to San Anselmo, and we parked right across from M.H. There wasn't much of a line yet, and the board outside promised a caprese sandwich, so we dove in. Oh my, what a sumptuous sandwich. The bread was divine - chewy, but nut heavy. At first I wondered how I would finish this, but the whole platter, with excellent fruit and arugula salad on the side, was far lighter than I expected. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place filled up while we ate, and we considered getting some bread to take home.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Next time, perhaps. And there will be a next time.

I've been calling San Anselmo home since 1996 and I finally caved to M.H. Bread and Butter's charm... I often drive by and wonder what's behind the crazy crowds, considering it's not exactly on the way to anywhere. I chatted with the lovely manager, Ms. Jenny, who swore by the lemon bread - which was indeed good, but I suspect would've been amazing straight out of the oven. Apparently, the Queen Aman, raspberry croissants, and their famous 'medium country' bread are must-trys too. Brahim, the owner's brother, was super friendly and spilled the beans on what makes working there so great. If you're ever in San Francisco, do yourself a favor and swing by Marin County - it's my personal paradise. Turns out, Marin County has some pretty rockin' credentials, being associated with the likes of the Grateful Dead, Metallica, and Huey Lewis and the News... and I've got a connection to the area that'll make you green - Bonnie Raite, Grace slick, Santana and Sean Penn used to live here as well.

One of my favorite places in Marin County, MH Bread & Butter is always a pleasure. I love their Breakfast Salad and their biscottis! And I always take home one of their many breads. You will not be disappointed!!!

I was recommended this spot by the people who ran the Airbnb I was staying at and I could not be more grateful. [[HIGHLIGHT]]What a lovely neighborhood gem.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You know a place is good when they sell out of items within half hour of opening! I had the breakfast there two days in a row and the portions were big and the food was amazing. I also got two loaves of bread and now I'm dying to go back and get more. The walnut bread is to die for!

I don't know why some of these reviews are so bad.everytime I come by here I'm always grabbing pastries from here.theyre baked good are top notched.ive had their croissants, nice and flaky and moist on the inside.I brought one of the stuffed ones with bacon and cheese and the wife loved it(she's not a pastry person).I've bought their sourdough bread and it's very tasty as my family don't eat much sliced bread.makes excellent grilled cheese sandwiches .their sandwiches are also very good,I don't know how some of these people can compare them to grocery store ones. Very nice and friendly staff,Jenny the manager is one of the nicest person you could ever meet.this is a true mom n pop shop and the neighbor hood should feel very lucky to have such an establishment within walking distance.will definitely stop by whenever I pass thru the area cause unfortunately I don't live in the area

    CHICKEN ADOBO
    Miller G.

I love bakeries and I love them most when they have French pastries. I recently stopped here on my way to redwoods. I was looking for something delicious to fill me up for the day. I ordered the chicken sandwich and also a baguette. I had a pastry as well which was decent but nothing too enticing. I don't think I would come here again if I had the chance as I would prefer to try something else that's maybe better. It was just not very impressive.

Egg sandwich, bacon and avacado spread- (

A picture tells the story of a bad Egg Sandwich 3 out of 10(10 being the best) The food was barely warm not hot, so the service was slow at getting the food out. The egg was only 10% of the sandwich with some bacon and avocado spread with a small salad in the side. I asked the manager where's the egg in the egg sandwich? He shared one egg in the middle, and the cook slices the sandwich in half so it looks like egg on both sides. The bread was good, but for almost 20 dollars for a cold 1 egg bread sandwich... not good for customers. Now reviewing yelp comments, it sounds other customers felt the same way... Just don't get your hopes up before you go in- Matt

    Patsy L.

I've been here about 3x on the weekends. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place does get packed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have seating inside and outside (picnic style with benches).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service has always been great. The pastries are delicious and recently, I ordered the polenta. First of all, it was HUGE! I couldn't even eat half of it Second, it was delicious! I definitely am coming back to order it again.

    Do they provide coffee refills?

I've read below in the reviews about a recent ownership change, but I can find nothing about that elsewhere (including searching with Google). Was there an ownership change (and if so, please post info about it)?

I can't find anything about the new owners but the former owner's Linkedin page says they were owners until August 2021 so that confirmed the change

How long do they serve breakfast until?

This is a best guess based on memory, but I believe they serve their breakfast items all day (open till 3) or until they run out. Sometimes they sell out of favorite breakfast items.

    Is it dog friendly?

    Yes. Outdoor tables

    How is the wifi here?

The WiFi is good. Many people work from there.

Do people work on laptop often here?

Not too many but there are definitely people working on their laptops from time to time

    They speak Spanish?

    Many employees do :)

It's in the Red Hill Mall in San Anselmo, quaint and so charming. But went straight in to this cake and pastry spot to order the chicken pot pie. The guy mentioned he had hot ones fresh out of the oven. I thought I was getting a couple to go and my husband had already eaten lunch, but because they were fresh out of the oven we had to go with those and just sit outside and enjoy it . They were so hot still but we couldn't stop. These chicken pot pies are made from scratch and the pastry is so delicious as well. I would totally come here and get multiples to just freeze and bake at home without the fuss from scratch! I think it's the owner who was helping us - I so appreciate him letting me know about the fresh ones that we could eat right then and there. I had to also try a hand pie, which I think was blueberry and it was so good. the pastry was so flaky. It was hard to break off a small controlled piece because it's so flaky . I should've probably bought two it didn't last long. The ambience is just a storefront, but the exterior has lots of seating at the mall in a sunny, bright family friendly area and you could have your dog & walk to the baseball field. Walk through the mall-and see cats to adopt. It was just a great outing overall to revisit an area, I hadn't been to in a while . I'll definitely return here for this specific business , but maybe for some other things as well. #Marinpotpies

Comforts sits right in the heart of downtown San Anselmo, with a small parking lot next door (very handy). We opted to skip the sit-down café and grabbed a to-go salad from the marketplace instead. The small size is $10, which feels reasonable until you look around and realize everything else in that to-go area is... let's just say Whole Foods looks like a bargain by comparison. This is premium Marin pricing, full stop. But back to the salad -- it absolutely lived up to the hype. All the components were fresh and crisp, but the real star is the sesame-ginger vinaigrette: savory, sweet, and tangy all at once. Add in the satisfying crunch of peanuts, and it's the kind of salad that makes you understand why people drive out of their way for it. Comforts has been a Marin institution since 1986, and one bite of this salad tells you exactly why. I initially didn't contact her because her site said she was sold out for several weeks. However, in desperation, I wrote to her after many bakers in the area let me down with their non-responsiveness, leading me on with a first response, and then not replying to my questions. I literally was left within 10 days of needing a cake and was getting super worried. I was so delighted when she responded the next day saying she would see what she can do! I immediately sent her a list of 9 questions as well as a sketch of what I was hoping to see to match the feel of the event (see below). She responded and answered all my questions the next morning (she even apologized for the late response) I know other bakers probably are not used to seeing sketches, but I am a very selective designer myself and have ordered cakes for so many other occasions (never with a sketch), only to have been disappointed with their lack of understanding style, taste and presentation quality. It was gorgeous, delicious, and just as I sketched! All I had to do was add the succulents to the top:) The next day after the party, a few friends contacted me asking for Lindsay's contact info.
