Second time here. Took my padre for some brunch. I had the Cubano on some fresh country bread they make in house. My pops got the baked eggs. Healthy portions, yummy coffee and some solid outdoor seating. 10/10 quality and trying everything on the menu...eventually!

Excellent bakery café! Great food great service nice ambience. I like the avocado toast. It's nice and thick with a lot of olive oil. Add a couple buttery, scrambled eggs and you are complete. Now to top it off, have yourself a lovely pastry. Oh yes, and I'm anxiously awaiting the new one to open on fourth Street in San Rafael - and you should be too!!!

This used to be my favorite shakshuka when the restaurant opened. Every time I would come to town I would order it. It's been a few years since I've been for a visit, but it was on my list of must visit spots. Not sure what changed or if it was an off day but it did not taste the same and I didn't care for it. So disappointed. My friend got a mocha and a cinnamon raisin roll. He said they were good. Not sure I'll be back but if I am I'll stick to the pastries next time.

came on valentine's day, a saturday around 11am. line was quite long and waited around 10 mins. service at the register was meh, a bit stiff and colder than i would have liked. french toast (8/10) unfortunately maple syrup was $2.99 extra, but was sitll good without. the bread is egginess without being too much, and is cooked to a good tenderness (soft without being TOO mushy). the blueberry compote is PERFECT with it, balancing the bread with the right amount of sweetness and tartness. the strawberry compote is good too, though i like the flavor and texture change that the blueberry one provides. fried egg sandwich (5/10) the sandwich is oily, and since everything is pretty fried and similar in texture it kinda mushes together. the bacon was way too soft. thankfully the arugula side salad and getting pickled veggies as my side really balances out the sandwich. it provides a good acidity to cut through the oil and saltiness. the carrots were good and not as vinegar-y as i expected (a plus!). the aioli is good, though i wish it provided more flavors. overall, it's a bit bland and i just wish it had some onion/garlic or even a bit of pepper. hot mocha with oat milk (3/10) it was very watery and strong/bitter, so i had to add a packet of sugar and a lot of creamer (thankfully they had a pitcher). not my type would not come back here, unless i really craved the french toast.

hot pastrami egg sandwich, kids mac, mocha, macciato cute little spot with a great menu! good for groups and little kids with strollers as there is ample space outside. they offered crayons and some coloring pages for the kids as well as a small kids menu. we loved the high quality fresh baked breads and tasty coffees they served up. great to share! portions were are bit bigger than usual! we will definitely be stopping by again to try more of them menu!

Love this place -- hands down my favorite. Parking was surprisingly easy. There's street parking, but we parked across the street in the lot by the music shop (it's closed on weekends, which makes it even easier). Zero stress before carbs -- we love to see it. It has that super local, neighborhood energy where everyone clearly knows exactly what they're ordering before they even walk in. Always a good sign. The bread basket? Unreal. The soup was divine -- comforting, flavorful, and exactly what you want on a cozy day. And the bread somehow manages to feel indulgent and wholesome at the same time. Warm, hearty, and clearly made with care. The space itself is just as inviting -- warm, relaxed, and effortlessly charming. And the pastries... they looked dangerous in the best way. I didn't even get one this time, which honestly just means I'm definitely coming back for round two. Already planning my next visit.

This was our first visit to San Anselmo, and we parked right across from M.H. There wasn't much of a line yet, and the board outside promised a caprese sandwich, so we dove in. Oh my, what a sumptuous sandwich. The bread was divine - chewy, but nut heavy. At first I wondered how I would finish this, but the whole platter, with excellent fruit and arugula salad on the side, was far lighter than I expected. The place filled up while we ate, and we considered getting some bread to take home. Next time, perhaps. And there will be a next time.

One of my favorite places in Marin County, MH Bread & Butter is always a pleasure. I love their Breakfast Salad and their biscottis! And I always take home one of their many breads. You will not be disappointed!!!

I was recommended this spot by the people who ran the Airbnb I was staying at and I could not be more grateful. What a lovely neighborhood gem. You know a place is good when they sell out of items within half hour of opening! I had the breakfast there two days in a row and the portions were big and the food was amazing. I also got two loaves of bread and now I'm dying to go back and get more. The walnut bread is to die for!

I've been calling San Anselmo home since 1996 and I finally caved to M.H. Bread and Butter's charm... I often drive by and wonder what's behind the crazy crowds, considering it's not exactly on the way to anywhere. I chatted with the lovely manager, Ms. Jenny, who swore by the lemon bread - which was indeed good, but I suspect would've been amazing straight out of the oven. Apparently, the Queen Aman, raspberry croissants, and their famous 'medium country' bread are must-trys too. Brahim, the owner's brother, was super friendly and spilled the beans on what makes working there so great. If you're ever in San Francisco, do yourself a favor and swing by Marin County - it's my personal paradise. Turns out, Marin County has some pretty rockin' credentials, being associated with the likes of the Grateful Dead, Metallica, and Huey Lewis and the News... and I've got a connection to the area that'll make you green - Bonnie Raite, Grace slick, Santana and Sean Penn used to live here as well.

I don't know why some of these reviews are so bad.everytime I come by here I'm always grabbing pastries from here.theyre baked good are top notched.ive had their croissants, nice and flaky and moist on the inside.I brought one of the stuffed ones with bacon and cheese and the wife loved it(she's not a pastry person).I've bought their sourdough bread and it's very tasty as my family don't eat much sliced bread.makes excellent grilled cheese sandwiches .their sandwiches are also very good,I don't know how some of these people can compare them to grocery store ones. Very nice and friendly staff,Jenny the manager is one of the nicest person you could ever meet.this is a true mom n pop shop and the neighbor hood should feel very lucky to have such an establishment within walking distance.will definitely stop by whenever I pass thru the area cause unfortunately I don't live in the area

    CHICKEN ADOBO
    Miller G.

I love bakeries and I love them most when they have French pastries. I recently stopped here on my way to redwoods. I was looking for something delicious to fill me up for the day. I ordered the chicken sandwich and also a baguette. I had a pastry as well which was decent but nothing too enticing. I don't think I would come here again if I had the chance as I would prefer to try something else that's maybe better. It was just not very impressive.

Egg sandwich, bacon and avacado spread- (

A picture tells the story of a bad Egg Sandwich 3 out of 10(10 being the best) The food was barely warm not hot, so the service was slow at getting the food out. The egg was only 10% of the sandwich with some bacon and avocado spread with a small salad in the side. I asked the manager where's the egg in the egg sandwich? He shared one egg in the middle, and the cook slices the sandwich in half so it looks like egg on both sides. The bread was good, but for almost 20 dollars for a cold 1 egg bread sandwich... not good for customers. Now reviewing yelp comments, it sounds other customers felt the same way... Just don't get your hopes up before you go in- Matt

Ask the Community - M.H.Bread and Butter

    Do they provide coffee refills?

I've read below in the reviews about a recent ownership change, but I can find nothing about that elsewhere (including searching with Google). Was there an ownership change (and if so, please post info about it)?

I can't find anything about the new owners but the former owner's Linkedin page says they were owners until August 2021 so that confirmed the change

How long do they serve breakfast until?

This is a best guess based on memory, but I believe they serve their breakfast items all day (open till 3) or until they run out. Sometimes they sell out of favorite breakfast items.

    Is it dog friendly?

    Yes. Outdoor tables

    How is the wifi here?

The WiFi is good. Many people work from there.

Do people work on laptop often here?

Not too many but there are definitely people working on their laptops from time to time

    They speak Spanish?

    Many employees do :)

Pro tip: the entire party needs to be present to be seated. Hubby and I were running late. Got there at 10:30am. Found our party seated inside. It was okay as long as they ordered without waiting for us. Comforts is both a restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining, and a separate take out deli bakery. Known for their Chinese chicken salad which we all planned to purchase at the deli after brunch. We all enjoyed what we ordered - * pork carnitas hash + eggs - hubby & BIL both had this. Very hearty meal. * stuffed pecan crusted French toast - sis had 1/2 order. I tasted it. Thought very sweet. * eggs your way- friend enjoyed. She ate the scone but left the jasmine rice. * farmers breakfast - both friend & I had this. My eggs cooked perfectly. Griddle pancakes excellent. Service was friendly and efficient. We finished brunch within an hour. Automatic gratuity as we were party of six. Then moseyed over to the deli bakery. You need to pull a number located by the bakery front door. I bought three bakery items and a large box of the Chinese chicken salad. The peanut butter cookie and the chocolate chip cookie were very sweet. Definitely need a glass of milk or a strong cup of coffee. The lemon bar was very good. Very lemony with a thin crust. Being a Saturday the deli bakery was very busy. We had the Chinese chicken salad as a side for dinner. It was good but I'll pass on it next time.
