What a delightful lunch spot! I wanted to try somewhere new and decided M. Market would be perfect for lunch. There was literally not a soul inside (it was a Saturday) except one employee who took our order. I love the interior, and it would be a great stop for a work lunch or to camp out on your laptop to work solo. They also have a variety of baked goods and canned items for sale. I had the sante fe chicken wrap and my BF had the Italian sub. They both were very tasty and came with a side of chips. For the price range of $7-$9 I think that's awesome! I was stuffed and really enjoyed my meal. I also ordered a container of potato salad and it was also great. Food was top notch all around. M market is such a neat place in downtown Nashville. It feels like a market that should be in Leiper's Fork, but nope it is smack dab in the middle of Cummins Station. They have lots of farmhouse kitchen and home items for sale. They also have a variety of sandwiches, sodas and a coffee bar. I tried the Southwest wrap and it was delicious and fresh. Stuffed with chicken, black beans, corn lettuce and a light sauce. My friend got a Rueben and it was so pretty with marble rye and in the place of sauerkraut they use Chowchow. It's a nice laid back space with shared tables and individual tables upstairs. I highly recommend stopping in! read more

What a cute little nook! Cummins Station is now a viable area to grab a nosh, refreshment, and meal with the additions of a few new establishments like Coffee Lunch (across the street), sister restaurant M, and M Market. I popped in for the first time the other day to set up my mobile office for some quality time with my laptop and really enjoyed myself. The veggie sandwich that I ordered $7 and coffee were filling and tasty and I was also tempted by the smoothie menu, and To-Go Case filled with fruit, salads, and sandwiches. What I most appreciated was the spacious loft area where I felt like a kid in a tree house as I hunkered down and blasted my in-box. The most impressive thing I encountered was when my cup of Joe was getting cold after a couple of hours, a friendly lady came out of an office area and just casually offered to refill my coffee. I restrained at first but she was said it was "no problem" and went and fetched it for me. Who knew that this place had FREE refills on their coffee? (regular cups of Joe only) Well low and behold, I had a meeting today across the way at M and that doting lady walked in and said hello. When I asked my fellow diner, who this was? My review is JUST for 2 cups of drip coffee on 2 different days. Coffee was some of the worst I've had. So maybe if you're looking for the worst cup of coffee that this woman from Chicago has had then you have found the spot. Both days had VERY light flavor, almost watered down. Both days waited for 5-8 minutes (with no line) before being acknowledged by staff standing in coffee area. Station with half and half was disgusting. Garbage around area, lid off cream one day to where I questioned if it was cold. Next day was almost empty. Very negligent to appearance and upkeep it seemed. Just find another place. Meh. I stayed next door at the Westin and in order to support local business thought I'd head down the street to M Market for breakfast. I ordered a breakfast sandwich at 10:20am and was told they stopped serving breakfast at 10am. I was one of two people in the place with nothing going on in the kitchen and when I asked a clarifying question regarding their ability to cook eggs after 10am I was told it was not possible because everything changes over. Had breakfast here yesterday with my husband. He works in Cummins Station and recommended it. The food and coffee were both excellent, as was the service. We chatted with the owner who was watering a wheelbarrow full of fresh herbs on the patio. She uses them in the food. I had the breakfast - eggs and chicken sausage with a side of avocado. And when I asked (the chef?) for the closest breakfast place, it was like a foreign concept. Walked across the street to the coffee shop(!) and got a slice of pumpkin bread. Just be forewarned!!! If you are at Cummins Station, this is probably your best bet for a quick and tasty lunch. Great selection of sandwiches on their menu and they usually have an interesting special on the board as well. I probably end up here about once a week. I get either the special or the Santa Fe chicken sandwich, which I honestly think has gotten even better than the first time or two I ordered it. Although I have not tried them, I've noticed that they have breakfast sandwiches, too. They also always have a case of premade sandwiches and salads for when you need to grab a meal REALLY quickly. Oh, and soup, too. They really do seem to have a little bit of everything. Fresh, yummy, easy. Very casual vibe, but comfortable, too. You can take your meal to go or grab a seat at one of the tables - inside, upstairs (kind of hidden, but handy extra seating), or even at a table outside. read more

When you go to a coffee place, and the guy who supposed to be making you $4 espresso drink tells you outright that he doesn't drink coffee, there's a bit of a problem. When he proceeds to give you the wrong drink altogether, it's getting to be a bigger problem. When you just leave with the wrong drink because you don't want deal with it anymore, it's a bad experience all around. This actually happened to me. The Saturday "baristo" told me he didn't drink coffee, and the turned around my order for a latte giving me what was obviously a cappuccino. I knew I'd never get this through the guy's head, and guessed that the five minute demo of various coffee drinks he got didn't really sink in. All that being said, if you can make it on a weekday, this place is actually pretty darn good. The regular staff are around in droves, and they actually seem to care about making a good product. Instead of the normal coffee fare, I opted for a Mocha Milk Shake. That's right mix vanilla ice cream with espresso shots, and chocolate, and you get what is possibly the best shake in Nashville, and I've had several. Their deli selection looks good, and their seating is comfortable, if not a little cluttered. So, I can only surmise that their food looks as good as it sounds. With Cummins Station and the Gulch cluttered with overbearing foofy-food, super-designed reboots of regular dishes, and high-end places to be seen as much as to eat, this is potentially the only place in the area I'd actually go for lunch. read more

So, I work in Cummins Station: which means this is one of 5 lunch options for me in the very near vicinity. I tend to favor M Cafe over anything else. I've been going for over a year, and have had a good selection of their food. Let's start with breakfast: I'm mostly a breakfast wrap kinda girl, because they're $4, made on the spot (which means it takes a few minutes -- sometimes it takes more than a few minutes, if there's more than 2 people in line for breakfast, I just go somewhere else.) Note: when they were $3, they were the best deal in the whole building. Now they're just a good option. I've also had the pancakes, which were delicious, the syrup that they sell in store is actually delicious. I love their mixed berry smoothie. For lunch, I've yet to have something I didn't like: their grilled cheese (comes with bacon + jalapeno-peach jam?: nice combo, sweet and salty and delicious) the chipped beef, which smells like heaven and tastes amazing, I'm a big fan of their Southwest chicken wrap, which seems to come on different flavored wraps depending on what they have. I've also had the Sunshine BLT wrap, the chicken pita, and various other specials -- all have been lovely. When their soups have peeked my interest, they've been delicious. The sandwiches range in price from $6-9. I do think this tends to be a little expensive, but they do have a rewards system in place, which I guess softens the blow. I tend not to eat their cold sandwiches, don't know why. Their cold case salads seem a little underwhelming/weird to me. The desserts, btw, tend to be fairly heavenly, so don't be afraid to indulge yourself if you see something that might peek your interest. The coconut cake they make occasionally is something of a dream. The staff has always been very nice to me -- exceedingly nice, actually. I have nothing but the highest compliments for their level of service, which I'm a stickler for. Oh, and I like the shop -- its full of interesting things, the ambiance is always pleasant, although it does get loud. read more

Please, please choose what you want to be...a highly functioning cafe or a kitschy store. Everyone there was ordering food, so I'd go with the former. Get rid of all the decorative crap and open up some more seating. Having the full menu on the wall behind the counter would also be helpful since it is initially unclear what you serve. Your proximity to the giant hotels is an asset if you use it to your best advantage. read more

Sandwich was quite good for a quick lunch break. Good quality turkey - which is HUGE for me. I am very picky about lunch meat so was stoked it was good. Price was fair. No side included so leans on premium pricing but for convenience, I am ok with it. I took mine to go because it was quite "smoky" inside - the kitchen smell leached heavily into dining area. Because the it was quite cold out too, the air chilled with every person who walked in. I'd be opening to coming back to M Market again for lunch. read more

Never had tried this place before so I walked in and ordered the Music City Chicken Philly. I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't a stuffy sandwich but was very fresh. The place is really relaxing and a good place for a lunch break. The service was excellent and the prices weren't bad at all. I will be a regular for sure. read more

See my review below--and it happened again. Although I choose not to eat here, I can't help it when a guest wants to go. So I ordered the BLT wrap, thinking it would be a relatively light choice. However, the wrap is on flour, not whole wheat as advertised. And it's loaded with mayo--again, not included on the ingredients (should I have thought to ask, perhaps, but aren't you supposed to list ingredients?). There is so much mayo and no way to scrape it off. If there was a least table service, I'd be able to ask that it be re-made, but you don't event get table service with your $9 sandwich. They obviously over-charge, but the least they could do is make what they say they are going to make. read more

I use to eat here at least 3-4 times a week for breakfast. However in the last 2 months, its went to complete shit. They never cook my food as requested and when I politely ask for it to be done as Ive paid for I am accused of being the problem. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! I woke up Saturday morning wanting the bacon egg and cheese sandwich I had here on Friday. But to my dismay they were closed. One star taken because they aren't open on the weekends but the breakfast selection is what you need in your life. The menu is simple and it just caters to those simple things you want for breakfast. Needed a bite to eat and thought I'd give it a shot. Place was empty as I came after lunch, inside is clean and random stuff everywhere. The guy working explained the menu and gave a recommendation of the sweet pepper steak sandwich. It was delicious! There literally no one else in there so it was surprising that my sandwich took so long to make. But it was hot, fresh and delicious, the bread was fresh and the veggies perfectly cooked. Another odd thing was they literally handed me the sandwich wrapped in plastic wrap. No bag, no napkins, no direction to where they were, had to ask. I've been a regular customer for years, but the most recent price hike is absurd. $7.67 for a pre-made, basic tuna salad sandwich on sliced wheat bread is unbelievable. No chips or drink included. When they were $5.50, that was tolerable...still high, but given the convenience, seemed appropriated. Pushing $8 is simply gouging. Add a cup of soup and the bill is almost $15!! read more

Since writing my last review the business has improved greatly in the areas of my original complaint. They have installed a very nice and modern POS system. Employees are more attentive and better trained. I'd love to see them improve their coffee service with quicker turn around and coffee on hand. I gave M a few tries but I am not impressed. I like the idea of having a lunch spot that uses local meat and produce, but the food is over-priced and inconsistent. When they first opened, I LOVED the roasted veggie sandwich but the one I ordered today was awful. It was soggy, light on the veggies, and not worth the almost $7 I paid.
