I'm all in! Super clean benefit shop. Though it's on the smaller side it's well stocked and picked up. Got a greeting at the door and a beautiful smile from the lady working on the floor...nice. This shop's not filled with bins and boxes overflowing with junk. The clothes racks aren't so full you can't move the clothes around. They have things you might actually want and could use. Prices seemed totally in-line with this type of thrift stuff. Didn't find any treasure today but it's all in the hunt. Last word...yip! read more

I apologise to Neween A. I think it must have been me who served this customer. I did not realise that I had upset the customer but I do ask customers if they have cash on small amounts. It is a 4 percentage processing charge on all cards. We do not want to add that to customers small payments like most other shops are now doing and we are the least expensive benefit shop on the peninsula. Not one of our volunteers get paid and every penny except for electricity, cleaners and insurance goes to needy organisations like food banks, hospice and organisations helping the needy of this peninsula. Though most of the volunteers are friendly and kind, every now and then I encounter someone who seems annoyed, unfriendly, and almost rude, and I can't help but wonder why they choose to volunteer if they dislike what they're doing. Just the other day, I went to pay for a few items and immediately sensed a bad vibe from the volunteer at the register. She took my items without making eye contact and seemed visibly upset about something. I pulled out my ATM card to pay, and she looked at it and said in a very irritated tone, "Do you have cash?" I told her I didn't. She then said, "Well, every time we take a credit card, we have to pay a fee, and paying a fee for three dollars and something is not right." I was shocked by her attitude. I left my items on the counter and walked out of the store, still wondering why people volunteer when they can't handle the job. read more

If I could give MPVS a no star I would. The very moment I walked in the energy was so off. Now I'm not saying smiling is mandatory, as a human being myself I understand we all go through things. There were two women who said nothing a simple faked "hello welcome" would have made a huge difference. As a woman of color going to places where the sublime discrimination is very present, unfortunately this is how the customer service here made me feel--completely unwelcomed. I still looked around and actually needed help with a cardigan or a jacket for a good 2-3 minutes and no one helped or addressed me. Right after, a lovely couple came in without masks. Now I understand some businesses still have the "mask required" and each business is allowed their certain rules, however one of the women working there addressed herself with a horrific attitude and said "you have to leave if you don't have masks!" Instead of kindly and gently saying "hi I'm so sorry but we do require masks in the store", followed by a simple "we do have extras if you'd like?" Which by the way I did not see an availability on masks. The couple was shocked and one of them mentioned they had just recently been to the store without masks but left. As they were leaving the woman volunteer or what ever it is she is, said "sorry for the inconvenience", which by then obviously the hostility in the store was already too much. Also I'm not sure if it's the culture at this store but I had to note the couple that was there--as I came in we're very snobbish as if we weren't all in a thrift store in the first place. Keep in mind I ran into this store as a bunch of men accross the street were cat calling me so my reaction was to go in there. Initially I was going to go to goodwill but when this happened I went in the nearest store opened and I thought it would be convenient since it turned out to be a thrift store. Imagine being a woman, particularly being a woman of color getting cat called seeking asylum in a store where it's volunteers or workers were not friendly at all it's the double the negativity that I did not need. Fast forward, I immediately walked out when I saw how this woman treated the couple because although I personally like to use my mask, but with the mandate uplifted everyone should have the ability to choose to wear a mask or not, but more so it was more about the disgusting attitude and lack of professionalism, and simple kindness of addressing that this store does require a mask usage. The approach of it all was just horrifying. If volunteers at this store are so worried about this then they should stay home at this point and they themselves were wearing their own masks anyway. None of us were there to obtain clothing for free so this entire treatment was not ok at all and unacceptable. I am thankful I went to goodwill and I am thankful to their staff. The energy that is there and how they welcome you every single time even if they may be going through something difficult themselves is so appreciated. I also noted the "plus size" section is completely wrong. My petite friend could actually fit many of tops on that section just fine it's so strange. I was so close to purchasing both a sports shirt and a cute pink knitted crop top at this thrift store but there's no way I did with both the horrible experience I had including the feeling that I was not welcomed and the obvious horrific attitude that was projected onto the other couple. read more

I only just recently discovered this thrift shop and I was so impressed that I have visited numerous times. The clothes, for the most part, seem to be better quality, cleaner and easier to look through then most other thrift shops I have visited. The all volunteer staff are very friendly and helpful. When I was little, at any given day of the week, my grandma would have over 60 unwanted dirty naked dolls laying around her sewing room. As her granddaughter I sometimes had the very important job of brushing, washing, and dressing these dolls with clothing that my grandmother would sew. The newly dressed baby, Barbie, and porcelain dolls would then be packed up, and sent to MPVS to be sold. Although my grandmother no longer runs her "Doll Hospital" I still have the fondest memories of this place, and would never dream of donating my unwanted-outgrown clothing to anywhere else but here. My grandmother worked in the shop two days a week, and in the summers (while visiting California) I would sometimes help the volunteers out by dusting the shop and sorting items in back. MPVS is entirely ran by retired grandmas with a few grandpas behind the scenes doing the "heavy lifting" and pick-up truck driving. I can remember how exciting it was for me to work here with my grandma, not only to see the dolls sold off to proper homes (little girls and boys who come in) but to find treasures that rich people from Carmel/Pebble Beach would find appropriate to donate. (Remember when track jackets were cool? I found an unused original 1970's blue and white gem here... for $2.00!!!) All of the money you either spend here, or donate in forms of clothing, dishes, furniture, etc, is used to support local non-profit organizations throughout the Monterey Peninsula. Call their phone number or pick up a pamphlet next time you're passing through Seaside, they've got a list in there of the various charities that they support, and if you're planning to have a garage sale... MPVS may be able to drive out and pick up anything you were unable to sell. Remember to come early! You'll find the best stuff out on the sales floor (this place is small) and the grandmas wont be too tired yet. read more

Friendly! Quaint! Great finds! I went on half price day and got a couple pair of name brand jeans, hard to find at thrift shops! I'll return my $50 jeans I bought last week at Lane Bryant and keep my $2 ones! Lol. This place had a greeting card rack and I scored big time on cards. I like having them on hand when needed. Also got a pair of size 11 pumps that look brand new. In case you didn't know size 11 shoes are hard to fine at thrift stores! It was a win day for me. This is a great little store, the Monterey Peninsula Volunteer Services Thrift Shop. Such a good cause, it's run by a group of retired older ladies who are so sweet and super helpful, and who raise thousands of dollars that are given out to local charitable/service/non-profit organizations every year. The store hours may be more limited, but that's because this shop is completely run by volunteers. I had read the reviews here before intentionally coming to shop here to show a little support and to see what it's all about. I was not disappointed. It's well organized, all the items sold are in good to great condition, and although the clothes are not as stylish as would be found in other thrift stores that would meet the tastes of the younger generations, there are lots of good quality dress and professional clothing to choose from. There's some houseware and kitchen items, but mostly, they sell gently used clothes and shoes. If you are looking for something in particular, the kind ladies here will gladly try to help you find what you are looking for and probably point you to another store if they don't carry it. I had my two little ones with me and the younger critter was going a little wild, so the kind lady at the counter took out this box of free items (odds and ends toys and little knick knacks for little kids) and let my kids look through them and play with the items so I could browse. They each got to pick out an item (I think she offered for them to pick out several if they wanted, but I told her I just want them to each get one item free and not to be greedy) from the box for keeps. I got my husband a nice brand new Brooks Brothers tie (we aren't Brooks Brothers shoppers if this isn't obvious), and myself some exercise shorts, and a few skeins of yarn (for next to nothing) and we left as happy shoppers and felt good to have supported this great little shop that helps so many local good causes. =) read more

They are never open when I drive by like twice a day but they finally were open and I scored big time! One woodies racket, a faux Grammy trophy to use as a prize for this weekends 70's Birthday bash at DMGSA (skating arena), gold chain link bracelet also for this Sunday and a pair of Orange skis to make a Shotski with! This is a lovely little thrift store. The ladies who volunteer here are friendly and often entertainingly eccentric. Things can be over priced, or way cheap! I've found a pair of high waisted orange cords that ever time I wear them, the ladies ask me where I bought them, and women dress for ourselves of course, but live for that special item that everyone else wants! I always find good things here. Lots of vintage and well made clothing, as well as decorative housewares. The money they raise with this little shop goes of directly back into helping others in our community. You can feel good about spending your money here. this place is great. i brought most all of my dead fathers stuff there and they took it all with no pickiness, like some places, they acknowledge that you have chosen them to give to, when other places are around, but they are always cheeful and happy to\ accept donations, give a receipt, and even chat sometimes when they are slow. these women are not paid and all the monies they make stay local and they choose regularly where the money should go. i support them wholeheartedly and you show too- the monies they make support our local non profits. hurray to them- i just miss there appearance once a year at the fairgrounds , so long ago, when they had an annual rummage sale. read more

The Monterey Peninsula Volunteer Services thrift shop should be a must for thrift shoppers. If you go to Goodwill on Broadway in Seaside this shop is a very short walk down the street on the same side. Because it's proceeds go to local causes, I try to frequet it often. read more

Why is this placed labeled as an antique place? They are expensive to a point, their dishes and glassware are really pricy. Of course the old ladies in the back say oh I remember this than it is antique and valuable. They really don't get a good circulation of books. Clothes are old lady clothes, and the art is really pricy. It marked what the retail is and who the artist is. All the shoes are old ladies shoes. They dont haggle at ALL. read more
