I love leaving positive reviews his thrift shop was is one of my favorites . it was a definate place me and my daughter would stop in while in PG. years ago! the prices and items are always unique and i always found something i liked... i did several big donations to this store i chose this shop because while shopping i observed a lot and that was " kindness" candy for my child at the counter but aso free loaves of bread for people that needed a lil help. for me, this was and still is a very big deal and help to others... I haven't been able to visit pg as often as i'd like anymore but i will definately donate again... service was always kindness all volunteers worked here amazing humans giving of their time... so i say this thank you for all the years of service and last i was in the shop, my daughters little ballerina stand that was at the door opening still sits in the store... she is now IN college getting her PHD i miss my thrifting with her but i'll definately be in again one day... regards, Corina L. read more

When did the store start only opening twice a week?!? I enjoyed going there in the past even though the prices were generally on the expensive side. But knowing that rent is high in this desirable area of Monterey Bay so how does the store stay in business being just open two days a week?!? That is strange. This a a smaller store. So small selection of merchandise. Hardly any kitchen items or Nick nacks. Some books. They used to have some nice furniture. When they do have it it's in the front window. Today there were just some paintings and art work. Prices here for most of their glassware are like those at an antique store. See pictures. Limited parking on the street but you can park at the market a short distance up the street. Overall this place is expensive no real bargins any longer. The employees were nice. read more

Another "thrift shop" with most prices similar to a retail store. Pair that with the multiple signs around the shop reminding you not to steal , and others reminding you you're on camera(extra classy guys) equals, zero repeat customers ever. read more

Love love love this place! First of all, for all the times I've ever been, can't believe I've never reviewed it. The good they do with their charitable donations and deeds, the services they provide ... the wares they sell, all is good--the variety and prices can't be beat. Everyone is super friendly and goes out of their way to be helpful, even though we didn't positively ask for it, they volunteered assistance. Just the sheer pleasures of browsing and wiling away time is worth going for. They have something for everyone and despite that the space is a bit cramped for all they carry, it's more a worthy trip! read more

Saturday afternoon - about 2:00pm. The large, older white man working at the counter began verbally abusing an older woman. Literally yelling at her. Told her she needed to learn English. Told her she needed to say thank you. When another shopper in the store told him he was being very rude - he told her that it was none of her business - and to not let the door hit her in the rear on her way out of the store. What part of this behavior would be condoned by St. Vincent? I feel very sorry for the poor frightened woman. And I will never go into this store again. read more

This is a mostly catholic charity based thrift shop just off downtown pacific grove. Parking is street only which may or may not possible but it really doesn't matter as there are a couple of surface lots on that same block. This is a small almost tiny store so it won't take any time at all to run through. The biggest slowdown will be waiting for another shopper to clear a space so you can get by. There isn't really room for more then two-two very friendly people who have both taken showers-in many sections including and particularly the men's section. The stock is pretty typical for a thrift store-that is to say highly subject to change depending on what's come in-but does trend towards older styles. Some of the items on my visit were just on the far side of gently used, and didn't even last more then a couple of months, which I'd totally be bent out of shape about if I'd paid more then seven dollars for two shoes, a belt, and a shirt. With that kind of pricing, it's always a bargain especially since you never know what you might find. read more

Donation Station! One of the very few shops still accepting donated books! The volunteer workers are very friendly and helpful. The day old bread give away is a sweet gesture. Everyday some items are 1/2 off, while last Saturday of the month everything is 1/2 off. A Christian fund raising store to aid the less fortunate, kudos to them! St Vincent de Paul is a great store now. It is organized and clean. No offense but since that older gentleman left the store it is very comfortable to walk in and shop now without being attacked or insulted. I feel bad for the older gentleman but it was time for him too move on. I now want to donate stuff to st Vincent de Paul where as before that older gentleman waS always rude and hostile. Thank you to the brilliant staff they have now tgey keep the store a cheerful place to go to shop so thank! It's Saturday afternoon and the heavy set older man is covering the store. He is the same man who is regularly rude and angry with customers (see other reviews here in Yelp) and today he showed himself to be racist as well. After observing his interactions with white customers and trick or treating children, he acted completely differently with an older woman wearing a head cover and modest dress. He was yelling at her and being very aggressive when she asked about prices ("Everything is priced! Do you want it or not?") and when she asked if she could have a trick or treat candy ("Can't you say please? Now you say thank you. Here in the US we say thank you."). He even told her to learn to speak English to which she replied that she does speak English. From there he just sat behind the counter speaking loudly about how "these people need to be taught a lesson" so that everyone in the store knew his opinion. When I said he was being loud and rude, he started yelling at me to get out of the store. I told him he didn't seem like a good representative of St Vincent and he told me not to let the door hit me on the way out. As rude and angry as he was at me, he treated me far better than he did the other woman. I guess it's because I'm white too and I meet his minimum for humanity. So PG ST Vincent de Paul Thrift Shop, how many complaints about this man will it take to have him removed from your store? He is a very poor representation for your charity work and personally, I'm appalled to find this kind of hate and ugliness in my hometown. Such an unbelievable level of racism and privilege on display and exerted by someone working in the name of a Saint known for humility and compassion. read more

Absolutely adored this store. It's a throwback to what I expect in a St V de P and they've strayed away from in Seattle/Tacoma, where I live. I expect good prices and more vintage than the average thrift at a St. V de P - and this one didn't disappoint. I suppose it depends on what you're shopping for, but I saw some fun stuff. Lots of little costume jewelry pieces, knick knacks and linens. Clothes were mediocre - both in terms of quality and selection. Prices are excellent. It's a small store, so I wouldn't go expecting to find bins and bins to sort through. Another thing I love at a good St. V de P: they have religious statues on display. I found a beautiful plaque of Mary and a lovely prayer card of St. Rita that I put with other pieces in a kind of nicho in my house. Lovely volunteer working the register. The best part about this St Vinnie's is that they take donations during all open hours. I live close by and my grandmother and I have been cleaning out our old stuff. It's so nice to know I can drop by and drop off donations any time. The selection is good, and I often find useful things. It is more expensive than other thrift stores (the missing star). But the money goes to helping the homeless, so I just think of it as a donation. read more

After shopping around the store for a while I went up to the register to check out. It's came to $44 and change. I only had $40 on me so I said I will pass on one of the items. I'm not under exaggerating that is literally all I did. The heavy set elderly man checking me out became irate. Telling me he'd have to start over with the transaction if I did that. He genuinely got very upset. Then he took the item I wanted to pass on and threw it! He literally threw the item! At that point I was so shocked I told him I pass on everything and walked out. The staff here is super irritable and knows nothing of customer service. I was a regular customer who spent a lot of money there. Needless to say I'm never going back in there. Been coming here on vacation for years and always looked forward to their 50% off anniversary sales. Today's experience has changed my mind! Sign in window "looking for volunteers" let me tell you they are in dire need. But good luck!!! I can't imagine anyone willing to work with Ron. The old vile rude guy shouldn't be allowed to participate, he sadly represents a charitable heart. If he's to old to get on a ladder and after 19 yrs doesn't know the prices to accommodate customer service that's on him. He was quite upset that I choose not to purchase the item and I apologized but he continued to be rude having been put out. He complained "people like me never buy anything". Told him I do every year but not to worry because I won't be purchasing my hold items on counter today and will never be back. Folks if your a old crank, stay home! Don't volunteer! read more

It seems like the cups in the motels where we've been staying here in Pacific Grove are smaller than Alan and I like. We prefer mugs. When we stayed at the Best Western Inn & Suites last April we ended up buying a couple of large cups from the Aquarium which served us quite well. When we got home we gave one to Tam and she says it's one of her favorites and it's one of mine as well. The cups here at the Rosedale Inn are small too. Today after brunch at First Awakenings Alan wanted to stop by Pavel's Bakery to see what they had. We drove up Forest and found a parking spot right in front of the St. Vincent de Paul thrift store. When I saw it I suggested it might be a good place to buy cups for this trip. Alan agreed and after we went to Pavel's we came in here. We were greeted by a jovial man named Ron. Alan pointed out to him that their electric sign in the window said CLOSED while the other one read OPEN. Ron and he joked about that and he declared Alan the winner for being the first person to notice. I went over to the area where the cups were on display. They had quite an array, most priced at $1.50. I chose one that was white w/ a black hibiscus design. Alan looked at a couple and decided they were too large. Finally he chose a light blue one that he declared ugly. I wouldn't have chosen it, but wouldn't have called it ugly either. Retro, maybe. It was only $1. When we took them up to Ron he again joked w/ Alan about being the winner. As his reward, Ron knocked $.50 off the price of my cup. We brought them back to the Inn, I washed them and we are now happily drinking proper cups of tea. We will keep these downstairs w/ the suitcases so we can take them on future road trips. read more

In fact they had a penny basket the day of our visit and my mom found a cute metal vine wall hanging. Lots of knick-knacks and costume jewelry to peruse. An 18 dollar pair of beat up heels I could get at Second Chance for half the price. And in better condition at Second Chance. Or at 18, new on eBay. Thrift is a relative term here! read more

St ventcent de Paul's here in PG I was working there and the mangers daughter Bethann Lynch has been texting me three to six times a day very rude and accusing texts saying I'm ha k into her phone she is the so called asst manager I try to expland to her father who also is very rude to his customers and his employees he,s raceist I come into work yesterday at 9 30 am to find a envelope with my name on it ,I open the letter to find it was from Bethann accusing me of threating her witch is totally un true. That letter really upset me I tried to tell the manger who is her step father he started seeing at me say to take it up with her I had mentioned it to him before a d he did the same thing I didn't want to lose it so I walked out and said I would be back to work on Monday after he cools off but needless to say he basically fired me which is not far at all neither one of them should be in charge of employees yet alone even work with the public would someone out there give some advice about what to do about this situation thank you!! read more

I was on vacation, visiting Hearst Castle and just loving the coast when I stumbled upon this wonderful little store. Shopping wasn't suppose to be part of this vacation but once I was inside this little gem I was hooked. Not only was Carmen (behind the counter) adorable but I had a fantastic time visiting with Shirley, whose passion for what she does shows. After almost an hour of visiting and spending money and witnessing first hand where the money I spent goes I can't rave enough.
