If you love banana pudding then this is a must! My BF goes boxing down the street and discovered this place and wanted to take me. We walked in and was greeted by a sweet lady and a man. They had us sample their delicious banana pudding and was really nice answering all our questions. We ended up getting a bag of their gourmet praline, one sugar-free praline to gift, and a banana pudding to eat on the road. The creamy banana pudding was so yummy and perfect after our lunch. The parlines were also super impressive. We ended up giving the sugar-free one to my dad who said he loved it and really enjoyed it. Everything was such at a reasonable price. For larger parties, they recommend calling in an hour advance. The shop is small and is more of a grab and go place but it is cute. The people there are lovely. Cannot wait to come back. read more

I can't believe I have not wrote a review for this place. I say that because this is my favorite spot! And I take my banana pudding seriously! I have been coming here ever since she opened and before that I would go to farmers market to get her pudding! Perfect in very way! It tastes delicious and fresh every single time. And she makes the pudding from scratch which again you can taste! Mind you I have been to pretty much all places that serve banana pudding Lol! And no one can compare! She is the best and the nicest as well. Great customer service always! She's not open on Mondays and Sundays so plan accordingly. I remember how amazed I was when I first tried Mabel's when I was new to the Los Angeles area. Although I have not visited during the pandemic, I did pre-pandemic and was pleased that it is as great as it was during my first experiences. I am not sure if the owner actually remembered me, but I tend to think people do maybe because I made some impression because I have one of those faces or am pretty enthusiastic about food and tend to talk to business owners. The banana pudding was good and I had to eat it all because it would be a while until I get home to a fridge. I have not found any other praline specialty shop. It's one of my favorite desserts. Drove 20+ miles today to purchase pralines because the reviews are so good and I wanted to send them to my mom for Mother's Day. The website, Yelp, Google and the lit "Open Sign" in the window, all indicated they are open from noon to 6. I arrived and the door was locked. I called and was told by a very pleasant voice, " Oh, we are open Wednesday to Saturday. " Please update your website and other information. You are one of few options in LA that I hoped knew what a good praline should taste like and with gas at 5.29/gallon, driving 50 miles to be empty handed does not make me want to take a chance again. read more

Amazing customer service, the pudding was amazing and the pralines were so good. Me and my friends were just riding bikes when we saw the stand outside and the cookie looking bags when a very sweet lady came out and offered us samples that had everyone gunning for more, so because she was being so sweet I wanted to try the banana pudding, and I don't even like bananas and it was amazing I shared some with my friends and we fought over it until she gave us a second one for free. We have had her pudding for years and it is to die for. We just today had her gumbo and it was on the same level. We get pudding for parties (pre-covid guuhhhhhh) and it is gone quickly, if we do not finish it ourselves first. We have had pies from this place too and they are good and very fresh, the owner makes sure. The owner is very nice and personable and we cannot recommend this place enough. Try it out, if you are disappointed then I do not understand you. She also hires young local people and we have seen personally that she teaches them well. I was confused initially when I was trying to find this place and the windows were boarded up (from the vandalizing), plus there weren't any signs. I starred hard through the door and realized this was the spot. I was greeted kindly by the lady working behind the counter (and plexy glass) and got a large banana pudding and some pralines. The large was enough to feed 4-5 people, and I thought it was creamy and divine. The praline was a little too sweet but I enjoyed the buttery taste. Price point seems fair for the quality of the items you get. You have to do street/metered parking fyi and they take time to whip everything up, so calculate accordingly! read more

Praline shops may be rare for most people, but for the residents of Long Beach we are lucky because we actually have a gourmet praline shop available in our area. I'm even luckier then most LB folks because I only live three blocks away from said shop. Mable's Gourmet Pralines is an awesome little shop located on LB's famous Pine Ave. Mable's shop is about as big as a walk in closet. Right when you walk in the door your already at the counter where your place you order. On the counter is where their products are located. Mable's sells one product and one product only, and that is pecan pralines. Mable's pralines are some of the best I have ever tasted. For those who have never tried them, pralines are candy patties made with sugar, butter, spice flavorings, and nuts. Other pralines come with nuts like walnuts and peanuts but Mable's uses nothing but pecans in their pralines. Mable's pralines taste like a piece of maple syrup fudge that is packed full of pecans. They really are delicious but extremely sweet. Pralines are usually not that cheap, and the ones from Mable's is no exception. For a small piece, which is about the size of a half of a Hershey's chocolate bar, costs two dollars. For a half pound bag it is about twelve dollars. In fact, the first time I tried Mable's pralines was at a birthday party at a friend's house. They bought two half pound bags, which cost them over twenty bucks, and had them set out in a big bowl. The pralines lasted only about twenty minutes, which was no surprise because of how amazing they are. In my opinion, I would never buy these pralines for a party snack because they cost way too much and would be eaten way too fast. When I buy pralines from Mable's I only share them with one person, and that person is my girlfriend. If you're ever walking around downtown LB and get a craving for something sweet, then check out Mable's pralines. If you like pecans and the taste of maple syrup, then you'll love Mable's. read more

So nice to find pralines this good west of the Mississippi. I was wandering around Long Beach trying to find some items to take home after my trip, and found this place on Yelp with 5 stars. Of course I had to go check them out. It was a small little shop, and they were so helpful the minute I walked in. One of the ladies there was just putting together some banana pudding so I picked up a small container and a pound of pralines. Man, that banana pudding hit the spot. So creamy and tasted so good. I wish I sprinkled some pralines on top of it, but it was pretty good with the fresh banana slices and nilla wafers. Oh, how I wish they were closer to me. Some damn good banana pudding and that ain't no lie. Wowzers. Decided to go big or go home so I shelled out $20 (cash because they don't take card) for essentially a pie sized serving of delicious banana pudding and I have absolutely no regrets. My girlfriend and I practically ate the whole thing in less than a night. It pretty much became our dinner. I'd definitely hustle back in for another serving without hesitation. And just an FYI I was going to take a picture of the Nilla wafers on top and show how it appeared - but my appetite won out. With a pie serving dish, though, they place a bottom layer of Nilla wafers (I had the opportunity to watch them make it because anything larger than the $10 one does, I guess), then pudding, then more wafers AND fresh cut bananas, then more pudding, then more wafers. I went here about two years ago and never came back. So I decided to try it recently and I now know why. I don't know if people have not had good banana pudding but this is not it. It tastes like it is straight out of the jello box with some extra sugar. The texture is nice but I didn't want to pay $6 for pudding that isn't made from scratch. The bananas tasted like they were dipped in lemon because they had a strong lemon, almost chemicaly taste. There weren't a lot of cookies in my serving either. I wasn't happy! I've had pudding where it was made from scratch and it was much better. For boxed pudding it wasn't too bad but not worth what I paid. And definitely not the best pudding you would ever try.
