I am a die-hard MAC user -- been using their products since high school and the quality very rarely changes. I'm also a freelance makeup artist, so i use their products almost exclusively for those jobs. but this review is about this specific location. Many times in the past, i've gone to MAC counters in department stores and been treated like garbage. Either the salespeople ignore me, or are very rude to me. Like i said, i'm a true MAC fan, so when i go to the counter, i typically have a list of products, shade names and quantities -- is it just me, or don't you think that would be an easy sell? I give you a list, you gimmie my goodies :) but noooooo -- dept store locations hate that. However, on my last trip to the Spring Street Store, it happened to be for a launch party (Liberty of London, i think), which means free food and drinks and hot half naked guys serving :D it w3as PACKED, so i figured i'd just write my list, go to the counter and ask for what i need, then get the hell out (i hate crowded small spaces, makes me nervous). EVERYONE who was working there was amazingly nice and easy to talk to. One of the guys (i forget his name, sorry) spent a good amount of time talking to me and my girlfriend about our makeup (he liked what we were wearing, i happened to have done both of our looks for the night and was happy to talk about what i used, etc) and said we were fabulous (what girl can resist that??). once I put in my requests, they had all my purchases ready in about 2.5 minutes and i was done. we also got lots of free goodies -- promo items for the line launch, samples, etc. If you want good service -- GO HERE! ask questions, ask for advice. the staff is so nice and attentive -- they won't look down on you like some department store counter peeps will. EDIT: sorry, just had to add that NONE of the artists pushed any products on me. I know for a fact that the artists at dept store counters are told to push certain shades or lines of product -- but not ONCE during my trip to this store did ANY of them do that, nor did they try to steer me to pink shades when i'm DEFINITELY coral (every, EVERY EVERYYYYY counter does this to me and it annoys me to no end) read more

sales people at the M.A.C. counter always think they are all that, don't feel intimidated, you are the one with the purchasing power. The M.A.C. look is definitely one that is heavily made up, sometimes drag-queenish, and vampy, but it's great if you want a little color to make your eyes pop, or your lips extra juicy, or your cheekbones define, it's got something for every part of your face. You don't have to use everything at once, but if you like to, that's cool too. read more

I was told by one of the makeup artists there that the old location a couple blocks away is permanently closed and I had come in on their opening day! Lucky me, things were virtually untouched, save for the handful of people who probably beat me to this discovery. The store is in a great location (on Broadway versus side street). I guess I was so excited to be in a new location that I looked like I needed a lot of help... I was asked if I needed any assistance 3 times by 3 different people which I think is great customer service although a little overwhelming. read more

I love MAC. I frequent my MAC stores here in Baltimore, and have been to several on Long Island, as well as other parts of Manhattan. I have a Pro Card. So I'm familiar with the product and what the level of service should be. My husband and I were visiting his parents and took a trip into the city. I decided I wanted to treat myself so we walked over to Soho and went into this store. I walked in and you would have thought I was a ghost. Not ONE person turned to acknowledge me. So, I started walking around, perusing the makeup, to see if anything new caught my eye. I made my way around, and started looking for the paint pots. When I realized that one of the little boys working there was RESTING his arms on the display, I walked over and said "oops, excuse me, I just want to take a look at these." I swear to God, he looked at me, and without a word or an apology, turned his head and walked away. No "Oh I'm sorry ma'am can I help you with anything?" No "Oh, wow, you caught me snoozing when I really should be KISSING YOUR ASS to get you to buy something." What happened to customer service? You wouldn't know we're in a recession by the slow pace these people were moving. I would imagine there are a lot of people out of work that would kill to work at that store. I'll tell you what happened to me. I walked my ass around the corner to the Sephora where I was greeted heartily and happily and dropped $250 there. I came here looking for some emergency concealer. The staff was very nice and helped me choose the perfect concealer for my skintone. I can be stupid when it comes to make-up, but they didn't treat me like an idiot because of it. I felt very comfortable and respected (despite my lack of cosmetic knowledge). It wasn't busy when I went in, but I did go mid-day during a weekday (my office is close-by). read more

I came here for a Yelp event so my experience was a bit unique, but I was very impressed with all of the makeup artists/employees whom I encountered. They were incredibly helpful and knowledgable, and while they were super enthused about their products, I never felt pressured to walk out of there with a purchase - which makes me want to go back! I'd never really explored MAC before, since it seemed too intense of a cosmetics adventure for me as a makeup minimalist, but they made it accessible and customer-focused, with great recommendations for someone who's just looking for a subtle, "natural, but better" look (in particular was so impressed with the Face and Body foundation. I left with a couple samples of products that I'm really excited about, and hope to return for the full-sizes if my sensitive skin agrees with them! read more

I love makeup! Especially Smashbox products. However, after my recent trip to the MAC store in SOHO, I may have a new favorite brand. Thank you J. Brandon! J. Brandon greeted me as soon as I walked in the door, and after listening to me complain about my eye makeup constantly smearing throughout the day, he recommended the best eye liner and mascara I've ever owned. I hate to be so dramatic but even without primer, it doesn't run, smear or smudge. The best part: after suggesting the products he actually took the time to show me how to best apply them (I'm a tad makeuo challenged having grown up before YouTube makeup tutorials existed). I use all the tips he gave me on a daily basis. He's quite the talented makeup artist, a total professional, and did I mention fun? My only regret is that I didn't have enough time to stay for a full makeover. I def plan on returning to this location with some friends to get a new summer look! read more

I had an event to go to and forgot my makeup. Scarred from childhood experiences at the mall getting green eyeshadow applied before prom, I was reluctant to let a stranger put on my makeup....especially when so many MAC girls wear thick stuff! I called at 3:30 (procrastinator I am!), got an appointment at four. I said to the very friendly phone person "please give me someone with experience. I don't want to look like a clown, and i don't want penciled in red eyebrows" All I can say is, I SCORED when I got Lisa. SCORED!!! Beautiful makeup, great personality, she made me queen for an evening. I have never heard "fierce!" so many times in one night.... Lisa really should just sit back and tell herself "I'm awesome" over and over again! read more

I am going to preface this review by saying I am OBSESSED with makeup - have been to cosmetology school, am always watching You Tube makeup tutorials, following a million makeup artsists on instagram, etc. I LOVE MAC MAKEUP and this is such a great location!! This mac has better hours than some of the other macs. Their staff is always super-friendly and helpful. Like another reviewer said on here, I followed Alicia from the Columbus store (Even though soho is way less convenient for me :) ) because when I get my makeup done by her it always looks *beyond amazing* and I get soo many compliments. I would follow her anywhere, she is the absolute queen of the smokey eye. I am always bringing in pictures- "can we do an Eva Longoria eye" or "can we do this J Lo from the golden globes eye" and she always gets it perfect! I am always in such a good mood when she does my makeup- she is truly amazing. This is now my favorite mac- I go here way too much and spend way too much money here-it's awesome :) read more

This is my favorite MAC store I have found in new York. They have always been super nice and willing to help. They have taken time to find the right colors and even suggested on ways to save money which will be more beneficial to me. This review is a reflection solely on the service of the store not the products. The staff is so incredibly rude. I've never been more dismissed in my life. It wasn't even like I was a complicated customer, I knew exactly what I wanted because I ran out of one product and just needed a new one. The ONLY reason I'd go back to this store is for Oscar who is the nicest artist in there who is also so incredibly talented and knowledgeable. And the freaking security guard who was nice. I was in MAC Soho last night and had the best service. I was greeted with a big smile and got much information on the new products. I normally would not a review but a few weeks ago I was in another MAC store and was so upset at the bad service I got that I had to give Cara at MAC SOHO Kudos for coming over to me and just answering all of my questions and giving me great feedback. I bought quite a few things, more than I originally bargained for, however I am happy with all of my purchases and will be returning again soon when I need some new makeup. Esteban and Mary are superstars. Esteban is my trusted go to guy -- approachable, friendly and uber professional. If you want a great experience overall, the MAC Soho shop is where it's it. If possible try to avoid peak hours so you get the best service. But Esteban is one of the most attentive people you will come across. read more

I was in Soho recently and was a little nervous to enter this Mac store because the last two times I was there I really had a super bad experience. But this last time I went there met two Fabulous ladies! One by the name of Nicole and another by the name of Stephanie. They where such a great help. Its refreshing to walk in there and get to smile and laugh in the process. I went in to trade in for a lipstick and I was standing looking for a method to try on a few colors because there was no tissues or applicators in sight (and the display was a mess) and it was impossible to get help. I ended up hunting down and helping myself to tissues because all of the employees were busy talking to each other or fixing their own makeup in the mirrors. I finally asked a guy for help, I had to interrupt and ask him twice as he was laughing with another employee, and he got me the lipstick in a rush but then put me on hold to help another male instead and ended up ringing him up first. I felt very uncomfortable and pushed aside, not the way you should feel when wanting to make purchases to enhance your look. I didn't even end up getting the lipstick. I have been to many MAC stores and MAC counters and often the employees are rude and seem very uninterested in helping you out. I've had a few unpleasant experiences with MAC employees at this location. I always know exactly what product I want, what color, etc. But I always have to approach an employee to help me grab the items. And once you approach them, without a doubt, you will get the rude bitch face. They act as if you're bothering them. You rarely get a welcoming greet. I thought it was just me, but I've seen them treat many customers this way. Don't shop here. Go next door. The MAC counter employees at Bloomingdales are way cooler. read more

I went there to purchase two lipsticks : I wanted the ruby woo, plus a natural shade to go for an every day look. I asked for someone to help me decide, but every seller was "occupied" : two were taking care of customers, but two others were just talking together. I waited ten minutes, asked for help twice, but nobody came. At the end, one of the seller saw that I was upset, and finally decided to do his job (it was a guy with tatooed arms). When I explained what I wanted, he swatched to lipsticks for me, but i didn't liked them, so he left me there telling me that when I would have found what I wanted, he could make me pay. I mean, what the hell ??? Isn't he supposed to help me ? I ended up only purchasing the ruby woo, and I will NEVER come back to this store. I was very disappointed by this customer service. Went to a makeup class last night at the MAC cosmetics store in soho which was very informative. The host Tuanelle was very professional and pragmatic. Her co-host Ashley was also very welcoming . We were given a very detailed tutorial on how to use our current products, as well as methods and products that could be incorporated to achieve better results. The ladies also discussed some upcoming products that I personally am looking forward to trying. Overall the class was great and I'm looking forward to more classes in the future! mac is just. . .the holy grail of makeup. and i love makeup. best eyeliner of all time? powerpoint pencil. best cream eyeshadow? eyepaint best powder? studiofix best concealer? select moisturecover best place to get outrageous colors and for not a lot of cash. my best friend swears by their mascara, which at 8 bucks is cheaper than l'oreal from duane reade. great fragrances, great selection, great help. read more

I followed my sister in here on a whim while our friends were next door at Bloomingdale's. I'd been searching for lightweight makeup that would give full coverage. After being greeted by someone, she handed me off to a guy who sat me down and handed me a makeup remover wipe. After I removed the makeup from my cheeks, he began applying foundation, concealer, and setting powder. I couldn't believe how good I looked! He matched my skin tone perfectly in less than a minute. While he was applying my makeup, he told me that only makeup artists are hired to work at MAC, which is pretty cool. I walked out with everything he put on my face! If you have uneven skin tone/redness, MAC has the best coverage of any makeup I have ever tried. One star off because while pretty friendly, a lot of their staff stands around and my sister had to wait almost 20 minutes to buy a lipstick. I'd go back though because its a convenient location. read more

Terrible! I went in with one purpose: to purchase the famed Ruby Woo lipstick. I'm generally not a big product junkie so it's not like it brings me great joy to hang out in makeup stores. That being said, this was PARTICULARLY bad. And yes, I've braved Sephora. This was worse. Much worse. I walked in and after standing around waiting for a saleswomans attention while her and the other employees blatantly ignored me and stood around and gossiped, finally she turned and found me the product. Before I knew it, she was plunking me down in a chair telling me I had to try it first. I normally say no, I ALWAYS insist no, but for some reason this time I was just tired and out of it and got suckered in somehow through their barbie-mouthed word magic. The saleslady proceeded the grab a lip-liner and line AROUND my lips. like. very far around. and then fill it in. and then fill it in again with lipstick. and then smudge her hands all over my lips. and then apologize and try to wipe it off with a disgusting alcohol soaked rag and her FINGERS. In between all this she would yell at my for moving, which i was not. how could i? I was frozen in fear. When i looked in the mirror, visibly in horror that i now had A CLOWN FACE, she tried to smudge it off and proceeded to stain the area around my lips red. I have acne prone sensitive skin, and i literally almost physically shoved her away. I grabbed the product and proceeded to try to just pay and get out of there, but the rest of the sales staff was totally oblivious and couldn't look up from their pedantic conversations and shrieking about eachother that it took another 10 minutes just to pay (in a store virtually empty of customers.) Unless you have the patience of a saint or it is your intention to become a proffesional circus entertainer today, skip this store. read more

My friend Cole Williams was performing at Joe's Pub. She forgot her red lipstick. Lord!!! It was like an hour before showtime. She will not wear anything but MAC lipstick. I called the MAC store to see if they had the products she needed and if they delivered. Not only did they have the 2 items in stock, the manager Lola delivered the items personally!! This is an example of superior customer service. She went above and beyond than she had to. She saved day and will always be our shero!! I know that the MAC brand has deteriorated in customer service since they were purchased by Estee Lauder but they do have a few gems scattered here and there. Don't be afraid to call them out on it. There are so many makeup brands so loyalty is key. It is much easier to maintain a customer than it is to get a new one. Stopped in today before attending a taping of the The Late Show with David Letterman. Being a Mac Addict in addition to a freelance makeup artist I was shocked at the way they treat customers. Being that it was 20 outside I popped in for a quick touch-up before the taping and didn't even get a simple hello from 2 of the "makeup artists" that were just standing there gossiping. All the others were with customers so I get that but come on, you two are in a customer service position. Act like it. When I approached to ask if I could get a quick touch up they both looked at me like I was speaking another language. They then looked at each other and rudely said, "we only do that with the makeup that you would purchase". Seriously? Look I have a Mac Pro card you idiot. You get what you get. I recently stayed in SOHO while attending TIGI training. I am a pro card member and enjoy going to MAC Stores while visiting other cities around the country. I googled to find the nearest MAC Store to our hotel and was directed to this one! I am so glas we made the trip here!Tomasina ( I call her T) was incredibly helpful, a great sales person, friendly and professional. I knew exactly what I wanted but since their lipsticks are tucked away and need to be gotten by an associate I had to track someone down for about 10 minutes even though the store was basically empty. When I finally was able to get someone she gave me an attitude even though I was more than polite considering the situation. I love MAC, and I've generally had positive experiences with the makeup artists. Usually they are genuinely helpful, and of course they are trying to sell more product but they are not pushy about it. It may have been because this location was practically swarming with artists (at least 6) and it was a bit late with very few customers in the store. But I felt like the artists here were desperate to sell more stuff. I was first lied to (I was told some products were "on sale" when they were still full price), and then after I stated explicitly the exact products I wanted to buy I was still asked to reconsider and take another look at the products they were trying to push. Come on, ladies! If you make your customers uncomfortable, they'll shop elsewhere! And I want MAC around for years to come. read more

Can I just say, that in the 7 years I have been going to MAC, i have always had horrible experiences with the people who work there, to the point where I would no longer buy products from MAC in person, and would either order online or just not get anything. Today I went to this store and was greeted so warmly by every single employee, and wanted to give a special shout out to Estefany and Johnny (sorry if i spelled your name wrong). Johnny got my items quickly and was very helpful and friendly, and Estefany was so funny and charismatic, and we chatted about the Mariah collection. As someone who works in customer service, it was wonderful to have such a great experience and it really turned around my view on MAC and their employees!
