Such a truly delightful experience at this Sephora location. So at the last-minute I decided to get my makeup done for my birthday and after searching through social media and finding nothing close to what I was looking for, I decided to just go to Sephora. It was super affordable, simple, and a really good time. The staff at this location were friendly, courteous and fun. The music was good too! I got my makeup did by Julie/Julianne and she was so thorough and on point. She explained everything well and was patient in answering my one thousand and one questions; she even told me exactly what she was doing to my face and why at each moment in the process. I can tell she was experienced by the way she set everything up as soon as I sat in the chair. It seems she probably could have done the phenomenal job she did with her eyes closed. I went to this Sephora (5/26) for a MAKEUP MINI: Find Your Foundation. The "makeup artist" Ivan was the individual working on me. His application of the makeup was a little tougher than what I would of liked. After he was done I noticed flakiness on my chin. I asked if this was because of my skin he said "no probably the stuff I used to prep". Then I noticed that makeup was all over my light blue blazer. I had to ask for makeup remover which did not help. He asked if I liked it, which was the least of my concern as I was wearing something brand new. Spoke with the manager who said I should of been offered a cap. She processed to give me a business card and said I will be reimbursed for dry cleaning. Lesson from this: REQUEST cape. I was super excited to have stayed at a hotel really close to this Sephora during our vacation. However, both times I went, I had a poor experience. Sales associate was quite rude when I asked for assistance trying to find a product. When I went back to make a return, the sales associate didn't know how to do it. I visited this location today with the intention of refreshing my staple products. My usual trips to Sephora include me walking in, not knowing what I'm looking for, & then leaving with nothing that I came for. Today, I went in, determined to make sure this didn't happen & I am so glad to say it didn't. Not because of anything I did differently but because of the wonderful staff member who helped me. His name was Angel & he was just that, an angel!!! He helped me find EXACTLY what I was looking for, even when I didn't know what I wanted. We trial & errored a bunch of products to make sure I left with something I was happy with. I have never once left a Sephora feeling so content with everything I've bought. I'm hoping a Yelp review is suffice enough to make sure he gets the recognition he deserves, but if there's something else I can do, please let me know!!! The service here was top notch. In El Paso, they never have the darker colors so my girlfriend could never get color matched for Fenton but here they had all the colors so we were able to get her color matched. She was helped by Laz who was AWESOME! He matched her in one try and helped her find all the stuff she wanted and needed. If you're (window) shopping along Fifth Avenue and want to finally treat yourself to something, Sephora is always a safe bet! Upstairs to this location is an Anastasia brow bar. I've never actually had my brows done here, but I've heard good things. The skin and hair care is straight to the back. As with all Sephoras, an appointment and $50 purchase will get you a customized make up application by an artist. Make the appointment online. They'll send you a confirmation email. For whatever reason, stores in NYC have this magical appeal to them, even the everyday brand stores like Sephora. There's this frantic energy that seems to surround me when I enter a store like this. I walked around to check out the different brands they carry. Each Sephora has a lot of brands, with some brands that are only featured in the bigger stores like this one. The staff was courteous but it was cold outside and it was nice to be inside. I am a big fan of makeup, more for how it makes me feel rather than trying to look perfect all the time. Makeup is fun and taking care of your skin will only reward you in later years. Sephora makes it easy for me to buy different brands all in one place. As always, there's no pressure to buy and they have plenty of testers for you to try before you buy. Just be careful of the eye makeup because you don't want to get an eye infection like my friend did. I always color swatch on my neck or my arm to see how it might look with my skin tone. **This Review is Specifically for EDWARD who is a Skin Specialist at this Sephora Location** Yes, I'm a guy, and I'm doing a review for Sephora...I think, regardless of sex, woman or man, don't we all want to take some pride in our appearance and look and feel good? I do, and because of that, I have no problems going into a place like Sephora for myself. I need to keep up with a good skin regiment, and in the past I had used a number of Kiehl's products. But recently, I went on a few dates with someone who is doing her Residency for Dermatology, and we spent most of the time talking about skin and skin care, haha. What I learned, is what I already knew, but also didn't know. That 70% of skin care is drinking lots of water, good diet and not smoking/doing drugs. But the other 30% is using the right products - SPF, moisturizers, etc. What I didn't know was that some skin care brands that you think are very good, are actually not as good as others - they're just better marketers, ie, Kiehl's. So, I decided to make a change as I frankly had gotten tired of using them and seeing little to no results. So I did a ton of research online and found out that the best eye cream (with scientific results) for fine lines, wrinkles, etc. was Perricone MD. I found that Sephora carried it and went to the Midtown location on 5th Avenue as I happened to be in the area for a work dinner. While at the store, I met one of the skin care specialists, Edward. First thing I noticed was how perfect his skin was - I'm not interested in guys, lol, but I do give credit where it's due, and his was flawless for a guy in his late 30s/early 40s.. I asked him which products he personally used, and the first product he took me to was Perricone MD for the eyes. So, I knew that Edward knew his products. He also recommended a few other products for a daily skin regiment, and when I told him I had used Kiehl's in the past, he basically said the same thing the dermatologist had told me on my date. So, I knew I could trust Edward - he wasn't just another "sales person" at Sephora - this guy knows his stuff. I even told him he should create a website specifically targeting guys for skin care products and how to apply them, etc. Which is the other part most guys don't know - how and when to apply them. Might be simple for women, but it's not something our moms or dads teach us growing up, like for girls and makeup, lol. Anyway, I was really happy I met Edward, took his advice and bought these products, which I've been very happy with and noticed a big difference after about two weeks: - Fresh: Daily Soy Face Cleanser - Ole Henriksen: Daily Face Moisturizer - Perricone MD: Daily Firming Eye Cream - Perricone MD: Weekly Cold Plasma Cream - Fresh: Rose Weekly Face Mask And I use a daily sunscreen already - Clarins SPF 50, which he recommended as well. So, to sum up, there are Many Sephora locations throughout the city, but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you come to this 5th Avenue location at 48th Street and ask for EDWARD - his expertise in Skin Care is impeccable, and he's especially great for any guys who happen to be reading this...which I imagine is very few, lol. read more

This was the most convenient Sephora when I lived in NY. I'm not a makeup expert by any means and so it's always nice to get some help from the friendly employees at Sephora. Whenever I'm looking for something, they are always willing to help. This is a great place to get some gifts for friends who are into cosmetics and perfumes/colognes. I have been seeing Jereyle at this location for over 3 years to get my makeup done for an awards show I host every year and let me assure you: this is the man you need to book for all your makeup needs. He is amazing! What's best about him is that: 1. He's consistent. His skills have always been spot on, have gotten me tons of compliments, and he's been at this location for years! I've never had to track him down all over the city, and knowing all I have to do to have a perfect made up face is place one call to book him at this location is key. 2. He's fun and has a bigger-than-life personality. Every time I come to him we laugh and giggle the entire time! 3. He hooks me up. He never spends just an hour on me, always going over, and always hooks me up with tons of samples. 4. He's a perfectionist. Not only that but I was in the store for about an hour trying to look for an employee to even ask help from. They were chatting to the side or no where to be seen. There was a customer who had an issue with a product she bought from the store recently and she had to wait for a manager to come for about 30 minutes which never showed up but this taller man comes over, acts rude and tells her that he cannot sniff the product due to COVID yet he had no mask on. When I was finally able to get a hold of a employee, she told me someone will come help me since she was helping another customer which was fine, however no one comes. I stood there for almost 15 minutes and no one came. I was fed up at this point and just wanted to check out and leave. Never coming back. read more

It was as if the workers were more concerned with themselves and chatting amongst each other than asking if people needed help. After roaming around I had to then ask a worker for assistance to find the Clean brand of products and she showed me the wrong Clean version and said those were the only one. I don't think there is any denying that this Sephora is the prettiest Sephora of them all. While the other stores have a very chic black/white thing going on this particular store has beautiful vaulted ceilings and gold railings. It radiates this sort of old school glamour and I love it. Favorite part has to be the grand-ish staircase leading up to the fragrance department and the balcony that wraps around to a couple spiral staircases. So regal. ---------- A few other notes: The lighting is pretty good- and as we know that is veryyyy important when applying makeup. They seemed to have all the brands I needed... Staffers were either ignoring customers or were running around like crazy people. I flagged one of the girls on the main floor down to ask about a mascara and she seemed like I was bothering her. The fragrance gal on the other hand was great and asked if I needed a sample or a recommendation. I didn't make a purchase but I did notice there were a few cashiers behind the counter. which leads me to believe the line was moving well. One of the best Sephora stores I've been to! Compared with other Sephoras (in the suburbs), this Sephora on fifth avenue is so much better! Had a great experience here, thanks to the well stocked inventory & staff. No pressure to purchase, but when one of the Sephora employees saw me struggling to make a decision, they approached me & offered excellent advice, without being too aggressive. Another employee (male) must be a professional makeup artist because he explained the concept of color correction makeup to me- something I've never really had time to look into. In under five minutes, he told me which products worked & which ones to buy. That's the reason I go to makeup stores - for expert advice - not just the products. There are thousands & thousands of makeup products out there, it's knowing which ones are worth the money(or not) that's difficult. I mean I guess my anecdotal experience with customer service is not necessarily symptomatic of the service of a particular location - maybe I smelled bad (I never do), maybe I looked dirty (not in public), maybe I looked like I didn't want to be bothered (I was walking around with a photo of a lipstick color I wanted). But we all know that all of the above would be besides the point, because the point of Yelp is your voice (however noxious and ultimately idiotic most opinion is) counts! Listen, I don't often indulge my need for instant gratification (I like the tease of the shipping delay, not really, but I do most of my shopping online) by shopping in brick and mortar shops, but when I do, I expect my shopping experience to be distinguished by customer service (online shopping is superior in almost every aspect now that there is free shipping/returns for try ons). Unfortunately, SAs never fail to disappoint. I get it, people are assholes. Most SAs are paid very little and they deal with exploitative jerks all day - I've been that jerk and I've worked retail. But if I'm so deliberate in my search that I came prepared with a picture, your chances of making a sale are going to be 110% unless you fuck it up by walking away immediately after you hand me a color (that is inconsistent with what I'm looking for) as I'm in the middle of a question. Came here for the Foundation class. I arrived early and got my Skin IQ and the Sa pulled several foundations for me to try. There was a lead instructor and 3 SAs who assisted. The Skin IQ was added to my Sephora account, so that when I browsed makeup on the site, the best match was indicated. I'd also check Findation.com site. This review pertains to getting their 45-min makeover. I would highly caution against it, unless you like drag queen style makeup. Telling them to make it natural does not help. Although I'm Rouge and wasn't pressured to buy anything, my friend came with a $50 e-gift certificate and was pressured to spend it. This not only made us late for our next appointment (because they had a lot of trouble processing the gift certificate... :( ) but it doesn't even make sense as a business model to force people to use pre-paid gift certificates. read more

The proximity of this Sephora to my office has attributed to my VIB Rouge status. It is 99% of the time stocked and 90% of the time staffed with knowledgeable beauty consultants. A great midtown location for the many major financial firms stationed in the area. Lunch time does get a little packed, but the cashier line always moves fast as the staff will approach you while you are waiting on line (if you are paying via credit card), and they will swipe your card in a portable hand held machine.
