This is a hidden gem in the Palisades neighborhood. My only complaint is that it is a PIA to get a parking spot because the lot is teeny and there is limited street parking. The bagels are some of the best ones in DC because they have seasoning on both sides of the bagel which is a rarity around here. Also, their hot sandwiches are tasty. The place reminds me of a NYC bodega because it is crammed with all the necessities one needs plus a great wine selection. They often have tastings for their new wines on the weekends. Expect to wait in line on the weekends at the deli counter and get there early if you want everything bagels because they do run out occasionally. read more

I have been a resident in the Palisades for a year now. The owners are extremely racist to me. As a black man, whenever I go into the market, I am not greeted, spoke to, or made eye contact with. When others are in there, mostly white folk, the owner and workers are joyous and giving their best service every time. They will go from laughing customers off to not even looking my way when I come to the register. They don't even tell me the price of anything or even offer me a bag for my things. I have to beg for a bag every time I am in there. Also, the owners definitely give me a creepy vibe. A couple months ago, I came in late on a Friday night before they were closing around 10pm, and 2 of the owners were in there alone with 2 young girls, maybe in middle school, and a teenage boy. The 2 girls were sitting on the counter in short shorts, right in front of the alcohol. It already seemed weird to me but what made it worse was how their vibe switched when they saw me walk in. They quickly told the girls to get off the counter, and again went from laughing with the kids to not saying a word until I left. Since then they lost my business. read more

Surprisingly large variety of groceries for the space, including items like soy sauce and sweetened condensed milk that I wouldn't have expected to find but have saved me several trips to Safeway. I love this place! I'm serious. This little store is a life saver, it surprisingly has everything you suddenly remember you forgot to buy at a larger store, and it makes great deli sandwiches. The wine, beer and liquor selection as fantastic. The staff couldn't be better and the even people who come in are usually friendly. It's a small place so for people like me who walk with a cane it can get a little dicey but it's worth it. Deli, liquor store, and mini mart all in a small store. The deli is definitely good, but the convenience store part is overpriced. If you are looking for a wrap, bagel or sandwich, this is an excellent spot. If you are looking for grocery, the Safeway half a mile from the store is a better alternative - unless you are desperate for some items. Indeed, the deli section prepares a wide range of freshly made sandwiches. I haven't tried the "lunch" sandwiches, but they look good. However, I can definitely attest that the breakfast sandwiches and bagels are very good. They are perfect for those weekend mornings when you just want to relax and have a good dose of delicious carbs and fat. However, while being impressive given the size, the convenience store section is quite overpriced (for instance, more than $4 for a small mayo jar) and I have noticed products whose "best by" date was way closer than expected. Surely it is convenient, but there are several grocery stores nearby where you can fresher products at a much cheaper price. Overall, I would say 4-star for deli/breakfast items. 3 for grocery items. read more

The male cashier is a bit rude but the sandwich ladies in the back were friendly and food was excellent! We had fresh bagels twice and a small Italian Hoagie and all was EXCELLENT!!! Prices are very reasonable ($3 for a bacon egg and cheese bagel loaded with cream cheese and $8 for a hoagie with Boar's Head meats/cheeses on a fresh Italian roll!) got a sub here and the bread was impossibly stale and rock hard. really, the bread must have been a week old and just about scratched the roof of my mouth to shreds. and on top of that i paid nearly $7 for the privilege. the place really should get one star, but i'm feeling generous and at least they use high quality deli meat (boar's head), and the cole slaw i got on the side was very good: flavorful, zingy (but maybe just slightly too much mayo). if i were ever to try this place again i would definitely opt for a sandwich that isn't served on a sub roll, or maybe just stick to the cole slaw. very disappointing. read more
