This is my first review on Yelp, ever! I figured that it is a worthy one. After a decade with my Macbook Pro computer that got me through college and graduate school, it finally died on me. Correction: the screen of the computer died and the internal hard drive signaled to me, that it is definitely the right time to get a new computer for my life, moving forward. This highly stressful time in my life, filled with headaches, was made easier by the guys that work at mac tonic. Not only did they speedily and successfully move all of the important documents from my time in college, graduate school, and all of the records relevant for my academic career, they also processed and organized the files into appropriate folders. I purchased a new used MacBook Pro computer from them, with the more updated Monterey OS system installed. It has been several months since I left with my new used computer. So far, there have been almost no problems. I say almost because I suspect that there might be unknown parties who are still attempting to hack my computer. I've used Mac Tonic a few times previously. The last time they worked on one of my Macs they didn't plugin the bluetooth card all the way which I had to do myself. No harm no foul, that's an easy job but you would think they would bench test machines once the repair is completed. They obviously do not. I needed a new machine to have a memory upgrade installed. I was told it took around 10 minutes and the labor COST was INCLUDED in the parts cost IN WRITING. I then am told the Labor is not free and will be a hundred dollars. The memory quote was already a hundred twenty five dollars over current market rate. This is simply bait and switch. If Mac Tonic is willing to put things in writing and then try and change the repair cost then that tells me everything I need to know about them. I had been told by three Apple support guys that my iMac needed a new hard drive. I called around and through conversations and price I chose Mac tonic. They were the only company that even suggested it might not need a new hard drive. I dropped my Mac off on a Tuesday and they called me on Thursday. They said they fixed some corrupted files and did some other things, and then told me my hard drive was fine. What great news for me! It saved my at least $200! They also back up all my stuff and down loaded the newest operating system. I say without any reservations that if you need your Mac repaired, don't even consider any other repair companies. I would like to thank Zach, Marcus, and Ivan at Mac Tonic for their great help under trying circumstances to resolve some serious computer problems I have been having during the pandemic. I have been going to Mac Tonic for a few years and was always happy with their prices and the quality of their work. Due to changes brought about by coronavirus I was suddenly pressed into developing "distance Iearning" lessons for a Coos Bay Community College forestry class I have volunteered to help the past three years. This necessitated working six and seven days a week on my computer developing online lesson plans with videotaped lectures, five "virtual" field trips to the Elliott State Forest, and daily email correspondence -- and no budget. At the same time, my computer began seriously malfunctioning and safety quarantines in effect at Mac Tonic required a minimum five-day turn-around, and at least four days to do a diagnosis. Because of my limited budget and great need to do extensive computer work on a daily basis to develop, test, and distribute the new distance learning lessons and weekly virtual field trips, I couldn't afford to not have a computer to work with. The short-term solution was to purchase a refurbished iMac from Mac Tonic to continue. The price was very fair but, unfortunately, it also had some problems with the new hard drive and I called in complaints almost immediately -- and well before the 90-day warranty expired. But I still couldn't afford to stop daily operations to have the computer quarantined and repaired. Fortunately, the refurbished computer was good enough, with some serious babying, to limp through my classroom obligations, keep up with my daily email correspondence, and finish a detailed article by its deadline. A few weeks ago I called Zach -- months after the warranty had expired -- and he took the computer in immediately and prepared a loaner laptop for me to use while it was in the shop. Due to my early calls and to the quality of Mac Tonic's warranty, there was no charge for the loaner computer, the repair, or some excellent software help by Zach and Marcus -- and I now have (once again) a smoothly operating computer and complete trust in the sincerity and ability of the folks at Mac Tonic. This place is better than 5 stars. I been using Apple products for the better part of 20 years and wherever I lived in the country I always find a store to work on my Mac's if ever needed and this is the best store I've been to! The staff are super nice and very knowledgible about all Apple products. I've stopped in a few times to just ask questions and they are always willing to work with me or answer my questions if they have time. They've even done some diagnostic stuff for free just looking into something to see if there was a problem or potential problem which I am super grateful for. Ive also had them do numerous jobs where the computer was checked in and worked on and all the work they did was done in a very timely manner and the work is still holding up to this day. They have some very nice and very reasonably priced refurbished items for sale. I've never ever considered buying refurbished devices but after seeing their items for sale and how great they look I now always check to see what they got and if I go in and if I see the right machine I would buy with complete confidence as they stand by their work. Just really nice, down to earth people who are really good at what they do and I wanna say I'm not a tech guy in the least I actually am not the biggest fan of technology but obviously need to use some devices in my life however I never feel outta place their as they welcome everyone of all different knowledge levels and never have a snobby attitude if I don't know something. Even with other patrons in the store, they gave my device the attention it needed. Turns out the Macbook's display was dead and would take quite a bit of $$$ to fix. They suggested a used Macbook Pro they had just refurbished, which was in great shape all around. Even if things can't be fixed right there, you will most likely have other options before you leave the store. Picture this: You're on a road trip with your 11-year-old daughter touring the Pacific Northwest. While you and your daughter are exploring the tide pools at Cape Perpetua, you are SLAMMED by what the locals call a "sneaker" wave. SLAMMED. DRENCHED. For reasons unknown to me, I pulled my daughter (who had been knocked to her knees) from the froth and didn't give a thought to my iPhone (which I had for all of father/daughter photo ops). Crazy, I know. Anyway, when we got back to the car my phone was dark and nonresponsive; naturally, I thought the worst. As we were passing through Eugene on the way to Portland, I found Mac Tonic on Yelp and stopped in. The tech (I didn't get his name) took my phone, blew out 1/8th of a tsp. of the Pacific Ocean, cleaned the contacts with alcohol and told me to leave the phone on it's side for 24 hours and then plug it into the wall; so, that's what I did...and it worked! All this for the princely sum of: no charge. That's right...No. Charge. Obviously, I compensated the tech, but still. That's my story. Excellent service. Excellent value. Al (I think his name was) jumps into the front display part of the store, sets up my computer, looks at a few of the issues I was concerned about, tells me how to fix 'em, and is about to address a different problem on a different piece of hardware, when his phone alarm goes off meaning he needs to go pick up his kids from school. He jumps into the back room, pulls out another wonderful tech person, Jean, who finishes off by explaining how I can fix my other problem. No charge. All smiles. I felt like their pricing was fair, they were accurate with their time to fix my laptop, and their customer service was good. I remember standing in line to pick up my lap top and there was a more difficult customer in front of me, and the chick behind the counter did a great job in communicating with him even though he was upset. I also asked about a cord for another family laptop that got chewed up by my dog, they gave me a free used cord. My 7 year old MacBook Pro died and I had no clue what was wrong. About a week before it died, I had knocked over a glass of water on the table next to the Mac and it flooded the computer. I had a towel next to where I was working, so sopped up the water immediately and did not think anything about it. Colin was very helpful and thought the problem could be a cable to the hard drive. He checked in my computer. Estimated time to fix was sometime the following week. Later that same day, Chris called to say the computer had liquid in it and the cable was also broken. Chris explained the cable could be fixed, but if the cable were replaced without removing the DVD player and rearranging the interior components, the cable would break again in a few months. We agreed to the rearranging of components as part of the fix. The computer also needed a new battery and a back-up drive. I remembered the spilled water. Chris was able to dry the Mac and replace the broken cable and the old battery. He also checked the computer for any malware and set up the back-up drive. The power cord had broken again which they were also able to supply. My computer was ready in a couple of days. I amazed at the rapid turn around time and the reasonable cost of the repairs. Jean greeted me when I returned to get the computer and checked out my purchases. My Mac runs like new again. All the staff were wonderful and professional. They took time and care to assist the people who were in the store before me. When it was my turn, they proceeded to give me the same wonderful, personal service. I would definitely recommend and use Mac Tonic again. And keep all beverages away from my computer. read more

I got a Yelp account just so I could review this awesome store. My laptop had a run-in with a beverage, and I decided to try this place instead of the other Mac-related store in town. They took my poor, wet laptop, dried it out (for free), ordered a new part and lent me a keyboard and mouse to use with my semi-functioning computer in the interim. The part only took a few days to come in once they'd ordered it and they installed it within 24 hours. They found a minor software issue and told me to bring it back in next week to make sure it's running okay, and when I told them my work schedule might prevent me from picking it up until later in the week, they said "Oh, we can just come to your work and drop it off for you." They were extremely professional and when I told them I troubleshooted myself, they did not spend the extra amount of time asking me questions such as if I tried to restart my device. Contrary to popular beliefs, I was utterly disappointed by Mac tonic. Due to all the rave reviews here, I decided to take our desktop here for a "no power on" diagnosis. Yes I know this is a simple solution most times, but my lack of time and the fact that my other 2 computers all failed at once left me needing some help. Mistake. When I dropped off the machine, I casually mentioned that we were completely without a computer in the house (yikes) because of multiple failures, hoping the gal there would pick up on that and maybe expedite the process to whatever degree possible. Also, I didnt want to be the customer that thinks that they should drop everything when I come in. I know how that goes, noone likes an asshat. Were my subtle cues picked up? Not a chance. In fact, a mac-tonic tech left us a message on Saturday, nearly three weeks after having dropped off the unit, congratulating himself for his heroism in having worked on our machine over the weekend, which they don't normally do, but the mastermind did manage to discern that we had a bad power cord. Wow. Three weeks to find a bad power cord. So amazing. I show up to retrieve the offending machine and am held up for 15 mins, even though I'm the only one there, because THEY CAN'T GET THE PRINTER TO WORK! Well be still my heart. I left without a friggin receipt, never to return. Word to those who own their businesses - you work weekends, you work nights, you work every waking hour. Thats how small business works. YOUR'E NOT DOING ANYONE A FAVOR, YOUR'E DOING YOUR JOB. You do not call your customer to congratulate yourself for doing what you are paid to do in the first place. Also, if it is taking you three weeks to sort out a bad power cord? You need to examine your workflow. That's ridiculous. Summary- This place is a critical mass of incompetence.
