After my second month of living here I am enjoying the new space! Staff 5/5: The leasing agent, Emily Barron, heavily influenced my decision to sign the lease within 48 hours. She was respectful, attentive to my exhaustive list of inquiries, and reliable. Common Space 3/5: After 2 months, you can't overlook the constant demand for repair in the common areas. Something is always broken. Maintenance is on top of it, but it'd be preferable if the issues weren't so frequent and widespread. Personal Unit 4/5: Apparently there are many complaints with no A/C. I work 5 days a week in office and face north and haven't needed the A/C. Considering the cost, the modern stainless-steel appliances and natural lighting are the top selling points. Location 5/5: Phenomenal location with access to many public transportation lines (BART, Bus, Emery-Go-Round) and amazing Asian food scene up the block in Temescal. read more

I have lived at MacArthur for 3 years and had moved out like 3 months ago. I tried to avoid focusing on the terrible things that happened during my stay but it has gotten out of hand. ALWAYS GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING from the leasing office because they lie too much and ignore everything they promised, employees don't communicate with each other and things just ALWAYS go downhill. Last year they literally changed the lock to my apartment when I was away for vacation and we could not access the unit the day we arrived which was crazy to me ( I did not miss rent or anything there was a miscommunication between the leasing office staff and I had no idea . I ignored the incident but that was truly terrible. The move out process was the worst, I was told I could extend a few more days (literally 5 days) and was assured rent will be adjusted accordingly. I was calling and dropping by the leasing office regularly for weeks and was always told to wait and it'll be adjusted, until I was told to email Steven because he's the only one that could adjust the rent and suddenly less than a week before the original move out date Steven emails me saying oh no we are not extending move out and I had to rush moving out and book an Airbnb for my last few days in the US. They have also incorrectly charged me because the leasing office was too lazy to actually adjust the reservation when I made it for one of the amenities and it's been 3 months of me regularly reminding them of the refund and they always say they're working on it or they'll get back to me but NOTHING. I also told them I'm leaving the US and how could we workout the security deposit given I won't have an address in here. The leasing office said they can't just hand me the check ( move out statement was done and all ) and told me to put my international address and the check will DEFINITELY be mailed from the head quarters, their calls are recorded and I kept asking the lady over and over and she was like just email your international address and the check will be issued and mailed there. After leaving the US, I get an email saying they can't mail it internationally and it has to be within the US. I gave me them my friend's address (still lives at MacArthur) and they have been ignoring my emails since then! I've never experienced such terrible management especially since I thought they're legally required to return my security deposit within 21 days. read more

Take this advice and run with it - tour Skylyne across the st and pay the extra money .Will simply love it. better amenities, staff is great, communication is on point & peaceful atmosphere. NEW TENANTS, BEWARE. The new management "Willowick Residential" placates to tenants that break and violate rules in the lease such as smoking and spitting into other people's balconies. Not only are they ill-equipped, they will also lie to you about not having anyone from upper management to deal with the situation, until they are tired of your continued complaints. Only then will they involve upper management, to deal with the situation. Even their upper management are behind when giving an update to tenants. They'll also tell you "good job" on taking video evidence of the tenant smoking and SPITTING from their balcony onto the street. Attached are photos of spit, ash, and urine on my balcony floor. I'm grateful that our office has Steven! Without Steven, this office would have no meaning. For any questions regarding the lease, he's the only person you should ask--asking anyone else often leads to completely different answers or no answer at all. However, getting packages from the lockers takes a lot of luck because I frequently don't receive the pickup code. I even paid $20 to register for locker use to ensure my packages' safety, and guess what? They're SO SAFE that even I can't get them! Luckily, there's just one helpful lady in the office who will open all the lockers to help you find your package. I'm giving three stars because I'm quite satisfied with my room. It gets plenty of sunlight during the day, and at night, it's very quiet once the windows are closed. My neighbors are also fairly friendly and not noisy. Compared to other apartments in the area at a similar price, the rooms here are much more spacious. Overall, if you're planning to move in, make sure to contact Steven directly! read more

Danger and theft lurks at every corner. Car burglary in "secured" garage. Weed smoke through ventilation. New management Willowick also treats you like garbage, and dismisses all problems even though your property is damaged. My car got broken into because their "secured garage" door broke down and it's been unrepaired for the month. Their response? Made me wait 2 weeks to even talk to them before they said "we aren't liable for anything including our negligence". Other complaints: - You can't turn off the ventilation! This is HUGE. If your neighbor cooks curry your unit will smell like curry for the rest of the day - Anyone below or next to you smokes weed (all the time) your whole apartment will smell like that for the entire day - did I mention terrible condescending management/leasing office people who treat you like trash? read more

Another update. MacArthur Commons is managed by Hines now. This group doesn't know the laws regarding notices and violates them regularly. All tenants were given a notice that let them know that fire alarms would be tested between Monday and Friday, and all units would be inspected for fire/life safety. We have been here for 3 years, and this is the first time this happened. What the management failed at is providing 24 hrs notice before entry, per law. What they provided was "anytime between Monday and Friday". Illegal. So we chat with the team and find out the date and window of time for our inspection, and my spouse (who is an hourly employee) stayed home so that he could remove our dog before inspections. They didn't arrive when they said they would, so my husband couldn't even return home until he knew they had come and gone. They didn't alert him like asked, and it took us checking our home security footage to know that they came in, shined flashlights on sprinklers and then left. This morning, we get ANOTHER notice of multiple days of fire alarms starting today, with additional inspections, with less than 24 hrs notice. Illegal. Many of us work from home. Many of us have small children that can't be around loud alarms for long periods of time. Many of us have pets that we have to remove when strangers enter. Just telling tenants that you're coming in "sometime" between Monday and Friday is not only illegal, but also makes it impossible for the tenant to be there if needed. I'm not about to use my vacation days to listen to alarms! Broken floorboards have not been repaired after 2 years. These floorboards are cheap, and coming up in everyone's apartment. Our carpet came up between the living room and bedroom and got damaged in a vacuum cleaner. Instead of replacing the carpet that wasn't secured in the first place, they want to charge us over $1,000 to recarpet the bedroom. If you want to use one of the public spaces for you and a few friends, they charge you a rental fee, now. If you don't use blue, clear bags that they THINK are recyclable (they're not) then they leave a sticker on your door and add a fine to your ledger. Do not recommend. Stay away. read more

Please think twice before you move in. If you talk to Steven for any information, make sure you get it in writing, otherwise anything you follow up with him you'd only get "I don't recall" from him. Tips: If you want to get any response from the leasing center, the only way is to get on Google review. Even with that is kind of luck base depends on if they feel like responding to you or not When we moved in, we got a 2 month concession which we decided to pace it out through 12 months, that way our monthly expense can be lower.Last month we dropped off a rent check with the leasing center, they never cashed it and the next thing we realized, they took off almost all of our concession instead of cashing the check. We emailed and tried to get it reversed and no response and no one is willing to resolve this for us, now that the new month approaching and the rent is due again, it completely ruined our financial plan, and they still have our check! And still NO RESPONSE As we live here for longer, the fee they charge is more and more ridiculous. We pay $40 per month for "valet trash" which they come pick up the trash as they pleased, there's absolutely no consistency but we get charged every month, that's the only consistency they have. Water is getting absurdly high and the water pressure sucks. In the common area, there's a tiny piece of dog shit on the carpet for over a month at this point, no one ever clean the hallway or the elevator, but of course they charge for cleaning every month. So many more ridiculous stories and it's a nightmare to deal with the leasing center. Worst building I've ever stayed at and my previous apartment had rats, still better than MacArthur Commons. *update *6/25, still absolutely no response. They still have my check and not showing if it's void. I am going to seek legal advice in regards of this and of course, how they don't clean the hallway / elevator, don't pick up trash consistently, and still charging us monthly. I have lived here for almost two years. There are some good things here: the community- I have great neighbors who I have had the pleasure of becoming friends with. It is located conveniently next to BART and I don't need a car. The neighborhood- Temescal is fun and has lots of good restaurants, bars and shops. I also like our apartment. With the purchase of a kitchen island it is really functional. There are a variety of things that are not great. Number one would be the constant issues with maintaining the building. There have been elevators that were broken down for weeks at a time. There is a grill at the pool that has been broken for over eight months! Speaking of the pool, we are in the middle of the biggest heat wave in years and the pool has been closed for 6 weeks. However, the most frustrating aspect of living here is the management. I am aware they work for Greystar Properties who clearly doesn't care about this property at all. They are a multi-billion dollar company who can't bother to spend money on simple repairs (like our broken floorboard that has been in need of replacement since 2021) and the management has to deal with the apparent greed of their corporate overlords. Fine. What is truly frustrating is the terrible communication. As an example, we were told to expect an update on the repair to the pool by EOD on Tuesday. It is now Monday (Labor Day) and there has been no communication. We didn't know EOD stood for End of Days as I now expect only to hear something from them when the apocalypse starts. This is typical. As another example, when we asked to get the floorboard repaired they told us they couldn't because of supply chain issues related to the boat stuck in the Suez Canal. Remember when the boat got stuck? I barely do either! But apparently our floorboards are sunk to the bottom of the Suez Canal because still no repair and no further communication. Again, this is pretty much par for the course. Also, if you walk into the office, the staff often look at you like you are just the worst person. Every resident has experienced this. Like I said, great community. We talk to each other a lot. The community frustrations are reaching a boiling point. I wouldn't be surprised if we all collectively go on a rent strike soon. I recently relocated to the Bay Area with my boyfriend, and we happily stumbled upon MacArthur Commons Apartments. This location is moments away from the BART station and fully equipped with amenities any Millennial would value. The leasing office is vibrant and welcoming and the staff is very hospitable. We particularly appreciated Jessica Martinez the leasing office Manger for her help expediting the lease signing process. And Tashayla Walker for her valuable information of the surrounding area. I recommend giving the Apartments a look for any future plans to relocate. ------------ 4 Month update ---------------- Trash is an issue here. Point blank MacArthur commons makes no effort to fix the trash "service" on site. Bringing company over, or worried about fire safety? Not MacArthur commons here we believe you should put your trash out from 6-8pm wed-Sunday stink up the hallways, prevent walkable space and create eye sores for all tenants! Need the service elevator? Don't bother asking if you're Gay because the Service team always find an issue when it comes to helping homos but if you're heterosexual don't worry you'll always seem to find help. Paying for amenities? That's right Pool, Gym,Yoga studio all available but not during the coronavirus lock down and yes you will be paying for this without compensation or consolidation. The management team on site care more about donut parties and bagel breakfasts than routine up-keeping. I saw an employee Lysol air pretending to be "cleaning" I retract my previous statements of saying The leasing manager is helpful mostly they like to give tenants issues and pretend they are working. Living here has been great, the maintenance staff is awesome and very knowledgeable. Apartments have nice lay outs and are cozy amenities are nice... One huge complaint I have is the new leasing staff that took over, Willowick. They treat their residents like trash and don't care about any of your concerns/complaints. Before the old staff would greet you with a smile every time and make you feel welcomed. Now with the new staff they don't even acknowledge you when they see you. They always look busy on their phones and could care less about residents needs/concerns. Do yourself a favor and don't rent here unless you wanna deal with crappy management. I have been living here for the past 3 years at which I have endured 2 major management changes and prior to the last was considering moving but have found much improvement in the following areas: professionalism, responsive to emails, follow through with tasks and work orders, more easily accessible and accommodating at which I work shift work. In addition to new benefits such as guest events and cleaner facilities. One major improvement has been in reliability and safety of receiving mail and packages. One major shoutout I have to accredit to my large increase in rating my experience this far is our concierge Ms.Lisa! I find her to very always professional, timely with her response, willingness to assist in any situation and help direct me to appropriate people if necessary. She has consistent follow through. Also i find her to value her work as I see her always picking up trash as she is touring a guest or walking around the complex. I appreciate how now i can have a walker help me walk my dog and feel safe security has been improved and i find very friendly and responsive. She personally loads the packages and find her to store packages when not available at which i have had not one lost or stolen package since her arrival here. I also had emergency situation at which I needed my sister to gain access to my place and she quickly responded and assisted my sister while I was unavailable. I also have to shout out maintenance team who i find to have largely created a more clean atmosphere which i highly value. I believe with the improvement I have experienced it encouraged me to stay and I hope continued improvements and more community engaged activities are held as i value the events i have been able to attend. read more

This place deserves all the zero stars if I could give it. It was hell living there. Management sucks, maintenance sucks (the man is on drugs for sure), parking sucks, there was always issues with our apartment, you name it. If you need to reach management the best thing to do is go straight to the leasing office but you'll be lucky if you get the chance to talk to someone. Half of the time I don't believe the office staff relay messages to the manager to be honest. If they did she doesn't respond but she'll leave it up to the assistant manager to reach you and nothing is ever resolved. Security does nothing but sit around on there phones all night. My husband and I had to leave our apartment early due to unsafe conditions. We did not feel safe living here after what happen to me. "TO THE WOMEN LIVING HERE PLEASE BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS! SITUATIONS LIKE THESE HAVE BEEN ALL OVER THE MEDIA".  After our cars got broken into on the street we decided to park our cars including the rental in the parking garage which is connected to the residence parking. The rental car was also broken into while parked in there. There was a plastic bag (unknown substance on it) left in the driver seat of the rental that I grabbed not thinking and I immediately had a reaction to it. Someone had been watching me but thank God my husband was there with me because who knows what could have happened. According to macarthur commons they have nothing to do with what happens in that parking garage because it's owned under a different company (not true) but mind you residents do park there.....So they did absolutely nothing. They didn't even send out a message to residents about the incident. This is a serious matter that they didn't take seriously. Although, I'm not suprised because a woman was killed right in front of the building a few months prior. No messages through our portals were sent out letting residents know about the situation. Even if your not liable at least let people know so they could be aware of their surroundings. There is so much more negative things about this place that I sure are stated in other reviews. Closeness to transit, some amenities, and friendliness of the maintenance staff are the only good things to note. Fire alarms: Do NOT live here if you have pets/kids. The fire alarms go off nearly once a week (sometimes more) and they are extremely disruptive. Working from home here has been a nightmare. Cheap materials: The apartment building is new, but the units are already falling apart. Everybody's flooring is peeling up (which becomes painful to step on), and they are not responsive to maintenance requests for it. I submitted a request months ago, which they marked "complete" even when the work was not done. The walls also scuff with barely any pressure applied. Lack of AC: Lack of AC in itself is not a surprise in the Bay Area, but these apartments become stifling and have no airflow in the hot months. Add-on costs: You might think you're getting a deal with rent, but that the cost of utilities/parking/service fees is extremely high. They find any way to add on extra cost to your bill. Stolen packages: They provide a locker system for delivery companies to use, but half of the packages still end up in a pile that is accessible to anyone. Management said they hired someone to help take care of the issue; Though, it it has gotten worse and management is now hostile when you inquire about your missing packages. read more

I lived in Macarthur for a little over a year, and opted out once covid hit. My main issue was that the building is terribly built, and sound proofing is not existent. If you live underneath another person, you'll be able to hear EVERYTHING. I maybe got 2 nights a week of good sleep, literally hearing every step taken and drawer opened by my neighbor up top. When I wrote to the office about it, they told me there was nothing they could do, except offer me a top floor apartment for $200-$500 dollars more a month than what I was currently paying. I invited them to come into the apartment and hear for themselves, but they ignored the offer saying the apartment was built up to standard -_- Then add the $100 dollars/month you pay for piles of garbage to stack up in the hallways and garage...things begin to feel unbearable and claustrophobic for such a high price, especially during shelter in place. The handling of money is very sketchy here. Multiple times I had to call the office to let them know they owed me hundreds of dollars, or to dispute wrong new charge that had been added. It was time consuming and annoying. Reading the other reviews this seems to be normal, and I wouldn't be surprised if Greystar/Macarthur makes money off people who don't notice or have the time to find these errors. When I moved out, I had to pay a ridiculous amount of money to opt-out of my contract, and went through several calls to figure out how to pay since their payment systems are terrible. Cecilia from Greystar called me months after I paid my balance, yelling that I owed them money, causing me anxiety and frustration. I pulled up the receipts to show my payment, to which they acknowledged and lightly apologized for -- their explanation for the error was that they made a "typo" If you're in the market for an apartment MC is not worth it. Instead find a non-Greystar owned complex in Oakland. The one good thing about MC was Harold, as he was always compassionate and understanding and tried to come up with solutions, despite having his hands tied by a terrible company. read more

Just moved in. The building is 24/7 covered. Very safe and with great and supportive staff. Harold and Mary helped me quite a lot during the moving process. I have a ton of questions and they answered me timely and explicitly. I did a virtual tour with Harold and he did the great job showing me my desired room. I cannot come in person because I was at New York that time. But I trust my gut that this is the room and the community I want. The management team is awesome and very supportive. Although some of the policy might be strict, it helps the whole community be clean and well maintained. During the pandemic, some amenities are appointment only, but I think after this, the whole amenities lounge room, gym and pool will be amazing. read more

I wouldn't trust the majority of the 5 star reviews on here as most of them were solicited by leasing agents who had to obtain a certain amount of 5 star reviews to get promoted. Definitely wouldn't recommend this place based purely off the fact that the leasing agents are extremely incompetent. When I moved in I was given an itemized list of all of my move in expenses. All of these expenses were paid, however, 6 months into my lease I received a notice stating that I still owed $500. I sat down with Harold, Jessica, and Amanda to try and get the situation resolved. We went over my ledger and none of them could actually show me where $500 dollars was missing. After showing them email proof of a concession that they probably missed. I thought the situation was resolved until I get my final bill upon move out and they decided to tack it on to that. What's worse is that I've received absolutely no response after trying to contact them to get the situation resolved. As for the actual apartments, they're nothing special. Cheap finishings and tacky color schemes that are made even worse if you take into account how much you're actually paying to live there. The trash was another big issue that I had. Not only do you have the regular trash fee but you also have to pay a valet trash fee. Sure, it sounds great that someone will just come to your door and pick up your trash, but the reality of it is a nightmare. First let me say that I visited at least 3 other apartments in the area that offer the same valet trash service as a choice. As in it's free and you can use it or not. Imagine my surprise when I heard that, because at Mac Commons, you're forced to pay for it and use it. I've never had to pay over $70 a month just for trash but that's the case there. The trash rooms are locked to all residents. I did have the displeasure of staying across the hall from Amanda, one of the leasing agents, and I saw her and members of her family using the trash room on a number of occasions. It must be nice to have the key and not have to follow the rules that you tell the residents they must. That aside, I can't even begin to describe how horrible it is to have your hallways filled with stinking trash 5 days a week. And the ridiculous citations that they give out stating what's wrong with your trash, why they didn't pick it up, or they picked it up but please don't do such and such again. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? I just want to throw my trash away. Ugh, this whole process was such a headache. The only good thing about this place is that it's close to BART but honestly even that's not really worth it. I really regret the year that I spent here and would choose elsewhere if I had to do it over again. Don't be fooled by the cheesy smiles and fake laughs, it's all a cover for how poorly ran these apartments are. So if you want to deal with lazy leasing agents who can't keep the basics of their job straight, such as keeping up with your money, go somewhere else. Anywhere else is better than here. read more

If you love to be ripped off, have your time wasted by incompetent and shady management, and sweat your ass off in non-AC cooled units as you work from home, MacArthur Commons is the place for you. MacArthur Commons has been a disappointment since before day one. When signing with them, they made countless mistakes on our lease regarding concessions, which is a bad look no matter how you see it - shady and/or unacceptable. After 5 months of living here, I can reassure you, they have not improved. We contacted staff last week on Monday to renegotiate due to plummeting market prices only to be told to wait for a response until Friday because the property manager, Amanda, needed to contact the "proper channels". We figured this was unacceptable and asked for an earlier response since 4-5 days is $500+, only to be ignored, both by email and phone. Come Friday and (surprise!) we are told Amanda is out until Tuesday. Disappointed at their lack of action, we sent our 30-day notice on Friday, only to be recontacted by staff a couple days later saying we could discuss options Sunday or Monday (today). Can you guess what happened? If you're thinking "they responded because that would be the natural thing to do if they want to keep you as tenants, especially considering the circumstances," then you'd be completely wrong. They delayed us yet again. At this point, I seriously believe MacArthur Commons is trying to lose money. Sure, the apartments they offer may be new and close to transportation, but with expensive utilities ($150+), lack of AC, or lack of basic locations like grocery stores, they don't have anything of use for the current market - the WFH market. I do not believe their prices reflect this reality. Remember Covid will most likely continue for several months so do yourself a favor and find an apartment you will actually enjoy for the next few months and don't fall for the trap that MacArthur is. P.S. In fact, avoid Greystar altogether, you'll be astonished at the countless pre-Covid reviews expressing how they kill everything they touch :) read more

The amenities that we pay a premium for are constantly broken down/closed. They are never properly fixed, so the same issues keep happening. You will be constantly fined for not having renters insurance, even when you do, and it's a constant battle to submit more and more documentation, months after the issue is supposedly sorted out. And they always suggest you buy their insurance. Expecting a package? Did you spend extra money to expedite it? Well there's a 50/50 chance the package will be "delivered" never to be seen again... There is NO AIR-CONDITIONING in these "luxury" apartments, and if you have a unit overlooking the pool, expect to be serenaded by other people's loud music all day long, because management has allowed this to become a community pool, for whatever riffraff that wonders in off the street, and you can't close the window, because of said lack of AC. (That is, of course, assuming the pool/spa is open and functioning, which is often not the case). The floorboards come apart easily, creating a tripping hazard, and the weird toilet often drains itself, allowing the stench of sewage into the unit. Some of the staff is helpful, while the other half is super rude. It depends who you talk to. The manager Jessica seems to at least be trying. I assume most issues are above her pay grade... I give them 2 stars because the location is great. Lots of public transportation and local restaurants and bars. Also, the view from some of the units is nice. read more

I've been living in this building for about 3 years now, and it's drastically deteriorated from the time we initially moved in. I do not recommend living in this building. While the apartments themselves are nice, the points below are making me desperate to leave as soon as our lease ends. 1. Negligence in regards to cleaning: We pay a significant amount of money in rent and utilities, and with this, it's natural to expect the building management to maintain a clean environment for us, our children, and our pets. I know that the building gym, elevators, and lobby are regularly cleaned, but the building hallways, surrounding outdoor areas including the dog run area are absolutely nasty. Hallways are FULL of nasty stains that have stayed on for months at this point making it an embarrassment for guests to come over. The "dog run" and surrounding areas of the building are full of poop, with negligent dog owners not picking up after their pets. When I say full, I mean that the dog run literally has poop ALL over it, making it impossible to take any dog there. My dog also recently caught a intestinal parasite likely because of this, costing me hundreds in vet bills and emotional distress over his illness. I've complained about the cleaning issues but have failed to see any resolution so far. When I ask how often the hallways are cleaned, the response I get is "as needed". 2. Poor communication: When I moved here, the building management was respectful and helpful. Since then, the team has been replaced with newer folks that are rude and extremely negligent. Customer service is not a thing here. 3. Parking: The building has hired an ILLEGAL towing company - PPI towing https://eastbayexpress.com/the-east-bays-tow-hustle-2-1/ - see this article to know what I mean. The towing company does not have a valid permit and regularly tows cars from the parking lot illegally. This is after each tenant pays $250 for parking their car in the garage with the hopes that it'll be safe there. Getting the car retrieved from this company costs $500. The company is also not within a 10 mile radius of the building, which is required by law in California; this means you have to take an Uber to go 30 mins alway to get your car back. That's an hour back and forth. Additionally, when a car is towed from private property, the property by law is required to provide tenants with a copy of the written authorisation that was provided to the towing company stating the violation and allowing the towing company to tow the car. When you ask the building management for this, they fail to do so meaning no such authorisation was provided (which is illegal). The building is also required by law to put up a sign in the garage with the name and telephone number of the towing company, which they have not done. Read reviews below of people who've had their cars towed on multiple occasions, costing them thousands of dollars. With the rent and parking fees we pay, we would at least expect the building to hire a legal towing company. 4. Random charges are added to your account regularly. If we aren't vigilant about checking these charges and having them removed, we are easily paying the building more money than we actually owe them. The apartments are nice but when amenities break, you'll wait months to have access to them. One of the doors to the pool has now been smashed at least twice (though other tenants have told me it's been 3 times) and they are going to install the same door again but it will take at least a month since the door was smashed to be done so we (tenants) are not allowed access to the pool/hot tub during one of the hottest months of the year. The person who smashed the door to the pool doesn't even live here and the security guards did nothing to control the party that was happening. Instead of installing something that doesn't shatter (like a gate), they are going to keep installing glass doors. So you can expect this to happen over and over again. When an elevator broke, it took 3 months to fix. Amenities are not covered in your contract so you won't get any money back for this even though the pool/hot tub is a major draw to living here. We pay A LOT of money to live here and a month without access to the pool/hot tub due to a party that the security guards did not stop even after several complaints were made is unacceptable. I know the people who work here are trying to handle things as best they can (and I don't blame them). I know how this works and it's the people in charge of these buildings who are refusing to give others authority to make necessary changes. Which is fine, I guess, if you want to lose tenants and future business. Honestly, there are a lot of positives but if I knew this was how they would handle a situation like this (with the pool/hot tub) and that it's a repetitive issue that they aren't going to be able to prevent from reoccurring, I would not have moved in here. If something is a reoccurring issue, you fix it (meaning you prevent it from happening again, not repair it the same way it was repaired last time and then wait for it to happen again). read more

DO NOT MOVE HERE. Where do I begin.. I want to make this quick and clear to make sure nobody ever rents here again. SAVE YOUR MONEY THEY STEAL FROM YOU!!!!!! Please see photos below to see how we are currently living. Around 15 broken vinyl panel floors that we had to tape down so we don't break our toes. After numerous times trying to hunt the management down (since they barely respond to emails) we were told there is nothing they can do as they don't have any panels to replace our floors. What kind of an apartment building doesn't have flooring replacement? They even blamed us for the floor looking the way it does. I know at least 5 other apartments that my friends live in this building with similar floor issues. Management lies on email and say different things face to face. I was told (to my face, not email) they have ~15+ other apartments that are empty waiting on flooring to be fixed, so clearly this is a reoccurring issue. They showed us another apartment we could be moved to which they said was READY NOW which also had gaps between the floor panels that could break at any point. They have NO clue what they are doing. No compensation offered for the way we live either. AWFUL social skills, never a 'hello, how are you'. I'm not sure how these people get the jobs they have. Where's the loyalty for all the money that we pay to be living here? The constant ignorance is disgusting. This is supposed to be OUR SAFE HAVEN OUR HOME. So many amenities don't work and nobody bothers to fix them - grill + fridge on building C patio hasn't worked for over 4 months. Pool grill out for months too. And they charge monthly for these amenities that they don't ever fix or maintain. Maintenance people always smoke in front of the entrance and throw their cig buds right there. If we did that, we'd be fined HEAVY. I can't wait to move out of here and I'll never recommend this place to anybody ever. read more

I absolutely hate living in this place. It is more of a headache than helpful. This is my second time getting my car towed for somewhere that I pay for. I Pay my rent and my parking pass per month and this is the second time they are towing my car. My sticker to my parking pass sits on my glass window. My rearview mirror is too fat to hold the new parking passes they passed out which makes absolutely no sense. And this is the second time I had to pay $500 to get my car out of the pound at a place where I live and pay to park. They do not work to help their tenants simply only looking to overcharge and get more money out of them. I was visiting my friend yesterday and parked in the Customer Parking lot. To be honest, I didn't read the sign when I parked (frankly I don't think anyone would read it) and my friend didn't tell me either the lot closes at 10pm. When I tried to get my car around 11, the gate was locked. I admitted I was being a little mad since it was the first time in my life that my car was locked in a parking garage. And the apparent Security Supervisor was being insanely unprofessional. I initially asked the two security guards if they can open the gate, and I surely admitted I was mad and was a little rude. After the initial exchange and I was about to Uber home, I saw your guard opened the gate and a car got in, so I ran and ask him if he can also let me get my car out. When I was about to pay and get out of the garage, your security SUPERVISOR stood in front of my car and threatened to have my car towed. He even threatened to call the police on me. He also continued to insult me. My girlfriend was very scared by this. How could a security supervisor treat your tenant's friend like this? This is utterly ridiculous and unbelievable. I have never been treated like this. I sincerely hope you, the so-called "Luxury Apartment", can take more effort to educate your staffs and tell them to treat your tenant better. He could've been at least nicer, and that's the whole point. I admit I am at fault here and being mad, but the whole thing could've been smoother if your guy was at least a little bit nicer. Frankly I also think he treated me like this only because I am Asian. This honestly ruined my whole day and gave me a very negative impression on you. This is my second post because of how horrible this place was. I finally finished all the paperwork and payments. This is the worst place I have ever stayed at. The service is terrible & the leasing office is completely disrespectful. I finally moved out & it took a whole month to get the leasing office to respond to my multiple emails. I CAN NOT STRESS ENOUGH. DO NOT STAY HERE. They don't care about standard or the complains about the community. The trash service you pay for does not do their job & will not pick up your trash half the time. The parking garage is very disorganized & you have to fight for spots & the hall ways always smell(they don't clean the carpets) My biggest complaint is the staff though. Completely disrespectful & do not have an understanding of customer service or their job. I had a special circumstance to leave because of my military duty & they tried to take as much money from me as they could. I left a month early & turned in my key. They made me pay for a month I wasn't their & wouldn't even give me my key back! WORST APARTMENT EVER. read more

I recently moved to this lovely place. First of all, Jay was super helpful and very accommodating. With Jay, I did a thorough tour of two hours. Yes, full two hours. And she always has been very helpful whenever I have any issues. Harold, Amanda, and all the other crews are all really nice. And we all know that having great staff is one of the most important factors when choosing a place to live. Good things: location! literally right next to Bart station. Good food options along Telegraph ave. Brand new apt with great amenities. On-going things: retail shops. Since it is a brand new apt, all the retail places are yet vacant. But it will get filled eventually and will make my life even better. read more

First, there is a reason they are still offering a month of free rent. I have lived here for 6 months and have witnessed some of the growing pains of this new building. To be clear, as of June 2019, none of the amenities mentioned (pool, gym, lounges, BBQs) actually exist yet. Of the three buildings that were supposed to be completed in May, only one is finished. And with constant construction, there is really no parking. As mentioned in another review, the trash situation is a laughable nightmare. We can't actually throw away our own trash without asking permission, and have limited hours to leave our trash in the hallway. Guess what a hallway full of trash and compost smells like? The apartment is beautiful, and maybe the amenities (will) be great, but I'm paying an obscene amount of money for a studio WITH NO AC, and things that just don't exist. I would hold off renting here until they get their act together, or look at any of the other new buildings in slightly better neighborhoods. read more

We moved in about a month and a half ago and our experience has been pretty good so far. Harold, Jessica, and Amanda have all been super accommodating and responsive. We moved from another Greystar property in San Francisco and this management has been worlds apart better in almost every way. Getting to work is super convenient as my partner works in the city and my tech bus has a stop at MacArthur station as well. That being said, there have been a few hiccups that come along with new complexes. For a while, USPS stopped delivering to our building due to a dispute with the way the mailboxes were labeled. It took longer to fix than I anticipated but when the issue was resolved, Jessica took the time to personally call me to let me know. Some may find them a bit strict when it comes to trash pickup and the limit of the number of guests visiting among other rules. While it can be frustrating at times, I do appreciate how it keeps the community clean and safe. All the amenities are also nice and the common areas are always pristine. The only gripe I have is that the dog run is a little disappointing, it's just a small gravel area. However, they also have additional dog relief areas which is a big help. Overall, this is a great complex for commuters who take BART. In fact, now that it's not peak season it seems like there's even better incentives to rent now than when I did. read more

We lived in MacArthur Commons for a year. We moved for work relocation reasons, otherwise we would've renewed our lease. The leasing management and maintenance teams were always helpful, cordial, easy to reach, and they promptly resolved any issues we had. We never had any major issues with anyone. The apartment itself was good too. Modern appliances, fiber optic cabling for high-speed internet, large washer & dryers, and spacious bathrooms. The cabinet finishes and the flooring, however, didn't look that great (even though they were brand new), at least from an aesthetic/quality standpoint. We didn't really mind it, but I know some people do. It's a fairly new complex, so we didn't have any maintenance issues. -- The common areas and amenities were always well-equipped, clean and organized. In terms of dog-friendly areas, honestly the dog run wasn't that great, but it was good enough. It smelled really bad sometimes and doesn't have great air circulation as it's a narrow L-shaped space between two buildings. In many cases it was better for us to just walk the dog around the block, so we didn't use it daily like other residents. There's also a dog washing area, which was also convenient. In our experience, "valet trash" (a third-party service that picks up your trash/recycling/compost from your front door) brings more problems than it solves. Many residents don't like to leave trash in the hallways or having to stick to a trash pickup schedule. In our case, we didn't mind it, but if given the choice we'd rather throw away the trash ourselves if it meant having the liberty to do it whenever we needed to. Sadly, opting out of valet trash service wasn't an option and there were no trash chutes (at least none that were accessible). There is a trash room in the bottom floor, but was closed most of the time. For receiving packages, the complex has smart lockers, so in most cases our packages were secure. Sometimes, the packages didn't fit the lockers or there were no lockers available for couriers to put the packages in so they left them in the area near the lockers. The area was still within the key-fob protected area, so it wasn't that big of a deal. We never had any major trouble receiving packages. There are several Stockwell vending machines around the community, which was convenient for getting snacks or other convenience items without leaving the building. -- The location is great because of its close proximity to the BART. There's also a couple of good restaurants nearby (mainly up Telegraph Ave). If you have a car or use ride-sharing apps, there's a movie theater, an small shopping center, and many other restaurants. Of course, none of this matters if we are still under a quarantine lockdown because of COVID-19, but hopefully it can be lifted... eventually... :( In terms of security, there's a lot of property crime in the neighborhood although you could say the same about many other neighborhoods in the Bay Area. We frequently saw broken-in cars just a couple blocks away from the complex. The immediate vecinity of the complex itself feels relatively safe, though. The complex has two people ("courtesy patrol") patroling the area at night. -- Anyways, we give MacArthur Commons 5 stars because it was a genuinely good apartment complex to live in, even with its downsides. read more
