I am absolutely appalled by the experience I had during my self guided tour at The Emery today. This community is a complete disaster and frankly a joke considering the price point they are asking for these units. I am coming from Vespr in Oakland and the drop in quality is staggering. This place does not even come close to matching that standard of living. The entire property is dirty and cramped, and the unit entry door frames are all beat up and missing paint which gives a terrible first impression. The elevators are ancient, painfully slow, and way too small with hideous tile that looks like it hasnt been updated in years. I was shocked to see residents actually posting flyers in the elevators soliciting their own businesses like it is a cheap motel and not a luxury apartment complex. The tour process itself was a nightmare. The app is completely useless and I could not even get into the three bedroom apartment on the top floor that I specifically came to see. While wandering around I noticed that packages are just left out and not secured at all which is a massive red flag for anyone paying this kind of rent. To top it all off I was told I could park in the future resident parking for free but when I tried to leave the machine forced me to pay four dollars. I called the office multiple times while I was on the property to get help with the app and the parking but nobody bothered to answer the phone. I want a response from management immediately because this was an insulting waste of my time and a total embarrassment compared to other buildings in the area. read more

My partner and I had a great experience living at the Emery. Addrii was our leasing agent. She was warm, thoughtful, and gave us a wonderful tour. After moving in we contacted Dartise, the community manager, whenever there was an issue, and he always responded quickly and helped us with what we needed. We had to break our lease because we bought a house earlier than expected, and Dartise made the move out process smooth and easy for us. We would have for sure stayed longer if we hadn't found our dream house. The building is modern and the apartment we were in was a good size. The amenities at the Emery is top notch, and all of the staff -- from leasing to concierge to janitorial were wonderful. We've been residents of this location for a little over a month, which has given us time to form a well rounded opinion of our experience to this point. First, I will say that the staff here are fantastic. Everyone has been kind, professional, and prompt - from our initial tour, to finalizing the lease, to navigating issues that arose over time. Prevail Williams, our leasing agent, was especially helpful and responsive as we worked through the various details around approval, signing, and move-in. I have also spoken with other staff, and everyone has been very supportive. As a recent example, this location has had some unfortunate parking shortages that any prospective tenant should absolutely investigate while considering a lease. HOWEVER, The Emery staff was very helpful in providing a temporary space for our single vehicle. Though somewhat inconvenient (and costly), it was superior to street parking. Compassionate to our concerns, an Emery representative was THEN able to offer a permanent slot within our building - in a time frame that was far faster than I expected. This complex has a number of amenities that are likely to appeal to a range of interests and lifestyles. Beyond on-site options, we are within easy walking distance of popular shops, restaurants, and other forms of entertainment. The units are well appointed, modern in design, and in excellent condition at the time of this writing. I would caution residents less used to high-rise life that there can be some factors affecting your satisfaction in the long-term. This is not a suburban environment - a multi-track train route competes with an otherwise lovely view of the Bay. We live on the top floor, where we experiences a periodic, prolonged low-frequency hum. The source is unclear (the building's HVAC, perhaps, or electrical equipment) - we don't expect it's a "fixable" issue. Light sleepers in this situation may prefer to find a sweet-spot where the noise is less noticeable. Overall, I would encourage home-hunters to take a tour, ask detailed questions, and consider the pros and cons. read more

Warning : Do Not Move In Here! I strongly advise anyone considering moving into this apartment complex to stay away. My experience has been nothing short of frustrating and disappointing. Here's why: 1. Unbearable Noise and Poor Construction: There's definitely an issue in the B2 building above the "gallery". It looks almost like a prefab, and I would definitely avoid these units. The insulation is terrible, and the construction is poorly done. I could hear every step of neighbors above me, and the noise was constant and intrusive. The door shakes every time the neighbor opens or closes it. Despite raising these concerns multiple times over several weeks, nothing was done to address the problem. I was told that noise from everyday foot traffic is normal, and that I'd need to move to a top floor or transfer to a different unit with a concrete building. The management completely ignored my concerns, showing they simply don't care about tenants' peace and comfort. 2. Parking Nightmares: Basically there's no parking available for new residents. period. When I first moved in, I was promised expedited parking, but after being placed on a long waitlist with no timeline for resolution, I was stuck with an impractical solution - moving my car twice a day with an extra fee. I have never expected to have no parking space in Emeryville. This lack of clarity and the failure to provide an adequate parking space has made living here a daily hassle. To make it worse, due to the lack of parking, there are so many cars parked in the loading zones in front of the building, creating chaos with parallel parking for UPS, Amazon, FedEx, Ubers, DoorDash, moving trucks etc. It is just chaos. 3. Inconvenient Key Fob Access : I was only given one key for my unit, and when I asked for additional fobs for guests, family, or service personnel, I was told this was against company policy. This was incredibly inconvenient and restrictive, making it difficult to manage visitors or service needs. 4. Lease Break Complications : Now that I've decided to leave and break my lease due to these ongoing issues, I feel moving out is the right choice to prioritize my remote work and well-being. Although I initially wanted to consult about waiving the fee to protect my tenant rights, I've been bombarded with complicated paperwork and pressured to sign without a clear understanding of my sign. They opted out of my right to be present for a pre-inspection without providing 48 hours notice, which was shocking and illegal. At this point, I never intended to leave a review, but I feel compelled to share my experience. I am not the one making noise or violating anything, but when I decided to leave, I was appalled by how they treated me as a resident. In light of all this, I want to stress: please do not sign anything or move in here. The management's lack of concern for tenant comfort and the ongoing issues make this apartment complex unlivable. If you value your peace, comfort, and sanity, do not move in here. read more

Taylor Duncan is absolutely amazing. She took the time to show me every single apartment I was curious about (trust me there were tons of to choose from). She also stayed past her work hours to make sure l was comfortable and happy with my final selection. Most leasing staff I've worked with in the past shut the door in my face and have even yelled at me for staying late, but to say Taylor goes above and beyond is a massive understatement. My husband and I had an initial consultation with Dartise on Friday, 2/3/2033 after touring almost all of the properties in Emeryville and we had such a great experience! Highlights: Professional, personable leasing staff: we've toured many properties where they didn't have any leasing agents or any employees on-site. This impacted our whole experience tremendously. It felt transactional and there was a lack of community (and honestly, safety). But not here. Dartise and the other employee that greeted us (I didn't get their name) was warm, personable, and knowledgeable. Dartise showed us units that fit what we were looking for, offered us snacks to enjoy as we toured, and worked with us to give us the best possible deal and scenario that worked best for our situation. Unit (1 bedroom): we only toured and got to see a few 1 bed/1 bathroom units and my husband and I were impressed! They had deep tubs in the bathroom (bath bombs anyone?!), front load washer/dryer, gas stove, and big windows to let the sun and views in! And they're all new which is a big plus. Amenities: we loved all of the amenities even though there are still a few that's being built (gym, basketball courts, park). We loved the mini "WeWork" floor that has all of our coworking needs - from conference rooms, booths/tables to do some work - my husband and I agreed that we'd both be using these amenities at least a couple times week. There is also a beautiful rooftop swimming pool (and jacuzzi) with the views of Oakland/San Francisco. It's filled with modern outdoor furniture and bbq grills. It was cloudy and rainy when we toured but we can only imagine how perfect it would be during the summer. The Emery Bus: there's a bus (separate from the Emery Go-Round) that picks folks up from The Emery and drops them off to the West Oakland BART station. Super convenient if you're commuting to and from SF. Overall, The Emery is an amazing community if it fits your lifestyle and what you're looking for. This is definitely one of our top choices. Hopefully this level of service and commitment continues as the years go by. read more

Do not come to The Emery. I've been here for almost a year. The doors are frequently broken/can't be opened by fobs. The elevators are frequently out of service. This is not ADA compliant. The package room is always a mess and packages are put in the wrong places. Rotting food in the package room from meal kit services and delivered pies during the holiday. The Emery then charges you if your package is left in the package room for too long despite not being able to find your package. They briefly used a package delivery service to help with this issue but this was discontinued as residents' (mine and my neighbors from other floors) packages were found ripped open and thrown down the stairs. The dog parks are a major reason I moved here but the fenced dog parks are almost always closed/locked with a chain. Management is slow to respond and has not communicated any timeline for broken doors and elevators or access for the dog parks. Management is hard to get in touch with for both urgent and non urgent issues. I was unable to access my mailbox for a month after I moved in because management was not responding when I requested my key and mailbox. I would not and do not recommend The Emery to anyone. read more

I definitely think living here is worth the price. That was the only thing holding me back initially, but having lived here for a year now, I can confidently say that you get what you pay for. I feel safe even coming back late at night since there is security that roams the grounds and all the amenities, hallways, and outdoor facilities are so well-kept. Stay far away from The Emery. I moved out in early August 2024, and I'm still waiting for my security deposit to be returned. By law, they're supposed to either give you your deposit back or send an itemized list of deductions within 21 days. It's now September and I've gotten neither. When I tried to get this sorted out, their manager, Dartise Jones, completely ignored my emails. Good luck getting any response or resolution from him. On top of that, they charged me extra "month-to-month" fees after my lease ended--without ever mentioning it beforehand. Also, don't trust their 4-star rating, all their 5 stars reviews follow similar formats and you can tell it's not from people who actually live there. read more

I would say this is my worst apartment renting experience since I came to States. The exterior of apt looks good, it has good amenities like gym and basketball court. But the assistant manager Yubi really made me feel bad. Before moving in, I emailed her so many times to get more info of apartment. She only replied once per week and no one would pick up the phone. When the move in date came, it was Saturday, she didn't show up (I totally understand she didn't work on weekend). Then I wanna add a new resident to my room, I emailed her like for 2 weeks, and tried to meet her in person. I went leasing office once at noon Thursday, the other day 3pm Friday. She didn't show up. God, it's your working time! Where are you? Also, package management also drove me crazy. I spent average 15 mins in package room trying to find my package. TL;DR: Before you sign the lease make sure they have an assigned parking space for you, The Emery does not own or operate any parking on site and you must move you car twice a day 5 days a week for $250 if you don't get one assigned. We loved the apartments, the quality is there and they're decently proportioned. Pricing is more than reasonable too given its Emeryville but they do use Real Page to set pricing. I like the staff they were helpful but the ball was dropped on our parking situation. We needed guaranteed parking due to our situation and we asked multiple times about where it would be, the pricing and so on. 2-3 days before we were due to move in it we found out we would not be assigned a space. The day before we were due to move in and finish signing the lease we found out that we would need to move our car 2 times a day 5 days a week and that was the Premium option. We were also told we would get a spot as soon as one opened up but the Parking company told me there were 9 people ahead of me on the waitlist. Just really unfortunate, we couldn't take the chance that it would be okay and moving the car twice daily would be almost possible for us. It was mentioned that there is ample parking but realistically there over 300 units in this building, the buulding is surrounded by multiple businesses and many of them rent parking in the same garage. There will be a generic response to this but at the end of the day parking was a major concern for us. We outlined that. We were told it was guaranteed and we put a $300 deposit down to take a unit off the market which is now lost. We were either lied to about the parking situation on our initial tours or a parking space was taken from us even tho we put a hold down on an apartment. If you need a space to park make sure it is assigned and make sure when you put down your hold deposit on the application that it is guaranteed to not be taken away. We don't know that that happened to us but the alternate is we were lied to and no space was ever available to us. One way or the other one of our big concerns and talking points was not taken into account in a way any reasonable person would be happy with. Its also possible staff simply dont understand the parking situation which again isn't particularly great. read more
