    Wedding reception

Herman is the guardian angel of weddings! I wanted a huppa in the garden, he sorted it. We wanted local organic wines at dinner, he spent ages on the phone discussing which ones would work best with the dinner options we chose. Our family has a few bizarre dietary restrictions, everything was organized accordingly. And Sarah was an absolute saint as our family and friends played musical rooms with bookings for three days straight about two months before the wedding. Once we arrived the other staff, bartender and checkin and brunch hostess, were a bit...discourteous with some of our guests including my mother-in-law and my father. OK they were downright rude which came as a bit of shock after how helpful and friendly Herman and Sarah had been. The reason I am still giving them 5 stars though is because the minute I mentioned it the situation was rectified. It turned out to be rather chilly the day of our wedding but everything was still perfect. The garden looked beautiful, all the roses were in bloom and then the reception was terribly romantic with huge blazes in the fireplaces. It was exactly what we had hoped for and we couldn't be more grateful or pleased we chose to celebrate our marriage at MacCallum House.

The best day of my life (so far) was at the MacCallum House. We love the town of Mendocino, and after staying at the Mac House for a weekend, chose it as our wedding location. Herman went above and beyond to help us make our decision, and was always SO accommodating (and delightful to chat with) on our subsequent planning visits. Sarah was also extremely helpful in all of the rooming logistics, as we had some changes throughout the planning process. Prasada (wedding coordinator for Mac House) was a dream come true. I hadn't wanted to "hire" a professional coordinator, as I enjoy planning myself. I was pleased that the package came with someone local to assist, though, as I live 4 hours away. Now looking back, I can't imagine where I would have been without her! She manages so many events, and is still organized, quick to reply, has great ideas, and reassures your nerves. I was a bit anxious as I was bringing a TON of decor, that of course I had a specific picture of in my head. She assured me that as long as I spelt it out, she'd make it happen. And she did. Of course I was too busy the day of to do much of anything, and she would find me to ask any clarifying questions needed, as she set up EVERYTHING. When I saw my wedding setup, I couldn't believe it - it was EXACTLY how I had pictured. Beyond the set-up, she was amazing and coordinating with vendors, timing of the night, etc. Besides the planning/coordinating aspects. the actual property is perfect for a wedding. We had the ceremony at Cypress Grove, and took shuttles/limo to and from. The rest of the evening was at the Mac House- cocktail hour on the lawn, then dinner and dancing inside. We had a 70ish person wedding and it was the perfect size for the inside. The old wood dining rooms looked beautiful lit up, the flowers by local florist Rosa (L&R Farms) were drop-dead gorgeous, the bartender was friendly and made our guests very satisfied :). The deck provided a nice place for people to take a dancing break, use the photo-booth or cigar table, and many people gathered around the fire pit (which they kept lit). It was also lovely having our wedding party all staying on property, it was so fun to see everyone at breakfast and around the property each day. With everyone traveling from near and far, we wanted to create a whole "weekend" party, and provide a place for friends to relax and enjoy themselves. It was many of our guests' first visit to Mendo, and it was the most beautiful weekend. They were all in awe of the town and vowed to return! I could go on and on - moral of the story, our wedding was perfect largely in thanks to the Mac House and their staff. I can't tell you how many of our guests are still gushing about it, and many plan to go back to visit. THANK YOU!

It is located a couple of miles away from the town, in a clearing in a forest. It is so quiet there that you can hear the silence! (Except in the evening where the frogs in the pond entertain with a pleasant concert of frog music; it is a nice sound and relatively quiet). It is very quiet since the house is located down a gravel road through the forest. The gardens are filled with a large variety of colorful flowers that were beautiful. The home cooked breakfasts are very good. The eggs come from the resident chickens. Very fresh eggs! We stayed three nights. We had the downstairs room in the main house, adjacent to the pleasant common living room, where enjoyed sitting in the evenings. Our room had glass doors that opened up to a deck that overlooked the woods in the back of the house. Beautiful. This was a relaxing trip for us. We spent the days on the nearby (1.8 miles away) beach watching the waves or at a shady cliff edge in the Mendocino Headlands watching the ocean.

Since my stay here was for pleasure, I felt that the lack of hospitality took a bit away from the overall experience. Nonetheless, we met other pleasant guests whom we enjoyed conversation with over breakfast. I was happy with our room which was comfortable, cute, and spacious enough. However, there was a lingering dank smell of either mildew or animal urine which I couldn't exactly put my finger on. Overall, we had a pleasant stay here on our first visit to Mendocino.

(Her second 'job' is helping people learn how to regulate their nervous system using breath work.) 2. Our weekend - which was at a venue (our retreat center, Whispertree Retreat) that was largely outdoors. The weekend weather went from hoped-for blue skies and billowing white clouds to a 30 degree temperature drop and rain forecast. Prasada patiently held the line assisting us with a Plan A, B AND C for the weekend, depending on the weather, a call we would make the morning of. I cannot tell you how much forethought this took! But Prasada did not complain ONCE. Rather, she held the course and even spearheaded the final plan C option that eventually turned out to work perfectly(!!) for us. 3. During the event, itself, Prasada spun plates behind the scenes. protecting us from a few (unavoidable) things that happened - some of which I STILL think we don't know about. 4. I really care about details and how things look. Beauty is so much a part of what people can notice and feel that helps make an event feel warm, welcoming and heart-opening. Prasada gets that, too, and has a great eye! I really trusted her to set things up just as I asked, and even improve on the outcome. 5. Prasada ALSO works at an event rental company. She has years of experience understanding issues related space and rentals and could probably help you address these issues in her SLEEP. Please do not think twice about hiring Prasada for your event. I enjoyed working with her so much that one thought I have the morning after it all is: What's the next event we can work on with her?!

On a Sunday morning after a canoe paddle down the Big River, we did the half-mile trek to the lighthouse. It was fairly busy, with 3 or 4 groups ahead of us. On the tour, volunteer guides on each of the four levels explain the need for the lighthouse, its inner workings, and how innovation and technology changed it over the years. There are four levels to climb: after the first flight with two handrails, there is only one handrail up the steps, making it a great core workout in addition to a historic and informational experience! After (or before) the tour, wander around the museum/gift shop, where there is a souvenir for every lighthouse aficionado to buy sprinkled with more historic information and pictures not only of the lighthouse, but also of the surrounding environment and wildlife. Having a knowledgeable wedding planner is invaluable during the planning process. My husband I are were married by Autumn in June with only our closest friends & family present. We contacted Autumn in April and she was ready to begin hearing our vision & planning for our wedding almost immediately. Autumn listened to us, asked the questions she needed to understand our relationship and priorities for what we wanted incorporated into ceremony (for us, it was our foundation of friendship and our girls)...& only a few weeks later she reached back out with an initial draft of our ceremony for us to look over and decide if it captured our essence. She is very easy to communicate with and responds promptly to emails. She has a natural talent for hearing what you are saying to her in the *way* you are saying it & she integrates the emotion and values of your relationship into your wedding ceremony. We could not have imagined a more beautiful ceremony for our guests. Autumn gave my husband & I a ceremony we will never forget. Additionally, autumn handles the processing of the marriage paperwork after the ceremony which is just one less thing on your plate during crazy wedding times! TL;DR Autumn has the exact professional and personal characteristics to make your wedding day one-of-a-kind and crafted specifically for you & your partner. I loved her calm and positive energy, and I especially loved all the ideas she brought to the table. We only spoke for about an hour, but afterwards I felt so much better about how my wedding would be. She had excellent ideas about the ceremony, which was immensely helpful as the ceremony was the biggest part of my wedding that I was still struggling to figure out. I wanted my religion and spirituality to play a big part in the ceremony, without making any of my family and friends uncomfortable. A few of my family members are very conservative, and I wanted the ceremony to speak to them in a way they could understand, and still be very much in line with my own beliefs. Autumn knew exactly what I was trying to do and exactly how to do it. So I hired her as both my wedding planner and officiant. As my Wedding Planner, Autumn: 1. Helped find an artist to do my hair & makeup. 2. Helped plan the ceremony script & timeline, and wedding day timeline. 3. Found a florist to purchase + deliver my flowers. 4. Brought all the decorations to the reception site, set up everything (including place cards), then took down all the decorations, and delivered everything back to where we were staying. 5. Coordinated the wedding day/made sure everything ran smoothly. As my Officiant, Autumn: 1. Wrote a lovely script for my ceremony. 2. Played a drum to gather my guests. 2. Officiated my wedding! 3. Filled out the necessary paperwork as officiant. 4. Note: Autumn is rather soft spoken. This was perfectly fine for my wedding, as I only had about 30 people, and they stood in a circle around us. But if you are planning something larger, I would mic her. Autumn has wonderful ideas and recommendations for all things wedding related. Overall I would recommend Autumn because of the stabilizing/grounding energy she brought to my wedding. I was confident that my wedding would be a success because she was a part of it. And it was.
