Fantastic secluded Bed & Breakfast near Mendocino! We were looking for a place to stay near Mendocino, but didn't want to day in the big bustling village of Mendocino ( :-) ), so we chose this place. It is located a couple of miles away from the town, in a clearing in a forest. It is so quiet there that you can hear the silence! (Except in the evening where the frogs in the pond entertain with a pleasant concert of frog music; it is a nice sound and relatively quiet). It is very quiet since the house is located down a gravel road through the forest. The gardens are filled with a large variety of colorful flowers that were beautiful. The home cooked breakfasts are very good. The eggs come from the resident chickens. Very fresh eggs! We stayed three nights. We had the downstairs room in the main house, adjacent to the pleasant common living room, where enjoyed sitting in the evenings. Our room had glass doors that opened up to a deck that overlooked the woods in the back of the house. Beautiful. This was a relaxing trip for us. We spent the days on the nearby (1.8 miles away) beach watching the waves or at a shady cliff edge in the Mendocino Headlands watching the ocean. read more

The grounds and the house itself have old rustic charm despite the house only being around since the 1970's. If you are easily offended, this might not be the best b&b for you. The host has a strong personality and will let you know exactly what she's thinking. Since my stay here was for pleasure, I felt that the lack of hospitality took a bit away from the overall experience. Nonetheless, we met other pleasant guests whom we enjoyed conversation with over breakfast. I was happy with our room which was comfortable, cute, and spacious enough. However, there was a lingering dank smell of either mildew or animal urine which I couldn't exactly put my finger on. Overall, we had a pleasant stay here on our first visit to Mendocino. read more

At first, we thought that we had missed a turn. It appeared as if we were venturing deep into the countryside. After a few miles, we saw the exit and started to slowly drive down a gravel road through the redwood trees. Finally, ahead, we saw a house and a cottage. We'd reached our destination, one that I thought I wasn't going to see as I ran through the terminals in Chicago, frantically trying to reach the only flight with one seat coming into the Bay area after sitting for hours on the tarmac in Atlanta. _______ Although you may stay in the house, we chose to stay in the cottage a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. You are surrounded by redwoods, complete with a small pond and deer that like to visit the gardens early in the morning. After walking around the grounds, the breakfast tastes especially nice as you eat in the main house or outside on the deck. The location is ideal if you want to visit the surrounding area. We hiked through the redwoods at a park and took many scenic pictures as we followed trails that hugged the cliffs overlooking the ocean. I still remember sitting on the bridge with thousands of locals in Fort Bragg as we watched the large, erupting fireworks ascend into the sky from boats out on the water. Most of all, I remember how relaxed I felt and "at one" with nature. ( I just realized as I write this review how much I want to go back.) We enjoyed visiting the unpretentious wineries, traipsing through the parks, and our bed and breakfast stay. What a lovely venue! The host is extremely gracious and kind. The rooms are very clean and well taken care of. The location is just 1.8 miles from the city and easily accessible by car (not walking). This is a great spot to just getaway from a city completely in the middle of the forest. For breakfast, they served delicious huckleberry pancakes along with oranges/grapes and orange juice. Margie was a very gracious hostess and opened up her beautiful home and surrounding property to us. It was so serene and we had no cellphone reception, tv, or internet!! We were definitely cut off from the outside world for a wonderful 2 days! (except the main house, she has wifi) She even hosted breakfast every morning in the main living room with ingredients from her garden! We had fresh eggs from the hens that roam around the property, now THAT'S organic!! Her famous dish, pesto eggs were to die for! After my fiance harped about it the whole weekend, she made it for us the last day we were there and it was divine! We stayed in the Cedar room in the barn (it used to be a goat barn a long time ago) and it was fabulous. nothing too fancy, just very basic amenities for a very relaxing weekend that city folks like us need from time to time! The coolest thing about the cabin is there are journals people have written on them since the 80's which I believe is when the barn opened! We are definitely coming back and staying with Margie the next time we're in Mendocino again! read more

Oh Margie, Margie how my husband and I wish we could have stayed longer at your lovely Bed & Breakfast! We stayed in the Pine Room for 2 nights and it was just all a dream. The room was clean, adorably decorated, quiet and romantic. What more could we ask for?! Every morning we would walk to the Main House for breakfast and it was always delicious! Margie is kind and accomodating and a great cook at that! Dont waste your time at other B&Bs...Go here! And on second thought- RUN HERE! For the price and what you get you cannot beat it. What a wonderful place to stay in Mendocino! The Farmhouse is quaint and charming, and everything we were looking for in our weekend get-away. The location is spectacular, slightly hidden in the woods, but just a 5 minute drive from the main town. We stayed in the Cedar Room, which is located in the barn and separated from the main house. Breakfast is cooked and served by Margie every morning between 8:45am and 10am. We were slightly hesitant about staying here b/c of what we read about AT&T coverage, but to be honest...most of Mendocino county has shoddy AT&T reception. If you really need to make a call, you can drive the 5 minutes to town and get reception there. Verizon works in most of the county, and the WiFi at the Farmhouse (both main house and barn area) was good. P.S. I'm a total dog-lover and so best part of my stay was Sage (the resident yellow lab) coming to greet us every time we stepped outside our door. She is so friendly and a total sweetheart (although she clearly preferred my husband to me!). read more

Our first time ever at a B&B! This place is awesome!! Unfortunately we only had one night here -- however, we were in Heaven for a night!!! We drove up late afternoon from the East Bay, so by the time we arrived at the Farmhouse, it was 8:30pm, dark and rainy. We couldn't see much of the Farmhouse by this time. As soon as we arrived into the house, we were greeted with a nice welcome note from Margie. We went upstairs to our room and stayed in the most spacious room, with a private bath. The room was nice and cozy- the bed was a king size, it COMFY! The next morning, we could smell the breakfast aroma! We went downstairs to the living room, where we were greeted by Margie herself! She invited us to make ourselves at home. She was the sweetest and awesome cook! We sat around the living room as if we were at our own home. The breakfast tables were set up at different corners of the room. We sat facing the front porch- it's a great view of nature, farm, and ... i was just in RELAXATION mode. Finally-- BREAKFAST! We had four grain cereal, with poached fruit, homemade berry muffins and freshly squeezed OJ, milk, and coffee, and more coffee! Breakfast was healthy and deliciuos! I definitely got my fiber fix that morning. Upon checkout, Margie packs a lunch sack for all her guests. Of course, it was so delicious. We were like little kids when it was time to have lunch. We were ooohhhing and yayying when we pulled out her wraps and homemade cookies!!! Overall, this place was very very clean... sheets, towels, pillows, everything was clean. I don't know what we did to deserve this but we booked last minute and landed on this incredible gem of a bed-and-breakfast. Rooms were priced competitively compared to other options in the area. The farmhouse was adorable, the room well decored and clean, the bed was incredibly comfy (I passed out like a baby) and the breakfast in the morning was quite nice. The shower seemed a bit weak and the Wi-Fi didn't work very well but we had a short stay so it wasn't a problem. I'd recommend the Mendocino Farmhouse to anyone hoping to stay in the area! read more

We just spent an awesome weekend in Mendocino. We didn't want to camp at the wedding venue so we stayed at the Farmhouse Inn!! Loved the separate Cedar Room in the barn. So peaceful in the woods away from hwy 1 noise! Margie was an awesome host she was very knowledgeable and willing to share her expertise with my husband who was the main chef for the wedding. Her breakfast's were just what we needed each morning from huckleberry pancakes to eggs cooked any way you wanted. What a disappointment, after the idyllic pictures on the website! The big issue was not the place which, while in an incredibly beautiful setting of redwood forest and gardens, is very bare bones, but the rudeness of the innkeeper Margie. She barely said hello to me when we arrived, and she failed to acknowledge my partner at all. She did not show us to our room or offer to help us (we are both disabled) with our bags, and--most amazingly of all--refused to allow me to stow in her freezer the ice packs I use in the evening to help control my pain. She keeps the kitchen locked at all times when not in use, and offered only a tiny upstairs fridge whose ice compartment was stuffed with frost and was too inefficient to freeze the packs the first night. While we have encountered inkeepers before who are less than ideal hosts, most have been friendly and all have been perfectly willing to accomodate such a modest request. We were shocked to be treated so coldly by this one. The first night we both had trouble sleeping while we tried to decide what to do. We certainly didn't feel like hunting for a new room during our few precious days in Mendocino. Fortunately, Margie left in the morning to go out of town, and her helpers Toni and Bess were kind and accommodating enough to salvage our reservation. Anyway, fellow Yelpers, be forewarned. Don't assume that beautiful websites, or even beautiful natural settings, mean welcoming hospitality! read more

After a brief trip for our first time to Mendocino, we decided that the Farmhouse would be the best place to have our small May wedding. We were able to rent every room in the house for the weekend, and invited our closest friends and family to come and stay with us. Marge was so accomodating and helpful with our planning, from the flowers, the wedding dinner, and everything in between! The setting was beautiful, and Marge along with her staff helped us have a picture-perfect wedding. We can't wait to go back next year for our anniversary. read more

Yes it's beautiful (the surroundings, not the boring house) and yes it's peaceful (being in Mendocino and not the rude Innkeeper), but I highly encourage you to stay somewhere else while in Mendocino. It was cold, and Margie was rude. There are no substitutions when it comes to the breakfast (even if you have allergies) and the picnic lunch was not suitable at all. We ended up eating lunch somewhere else. Seriously, I don't get the good reviews. This place is just a bed to crash in, no charm, no character, not close to town, and definitely not worth the price. read more

The outside grounds are very isolated and beautiful. There is no cell phone service, so prepare to get disconnected! The place is seriously picturesque. It looks like it should be featured in a Thomas Kinkade calendar. The innkeeper is very nice, although puts on pressure to hang out and socialize with her and the other guests. We stayed for a few days to get away from work and high pressures of living in the city. It was pretty foggy, with being so close to the coast, but that's not a big deal. The only downside was the amount of mosquitos in on the property. My husband said there was standing water in a creek near the main house, and it was a host to a ton of mosquitos. There was a huge gap in our front door, and that's how the mosquitos kept getting inside our cottage and we left with a ton of bug bites. Most of our time we spent in Fort Bragg or Mendocino, so we didn't spend much time at the room. Very beautiful place and very well priced! read more

We came here because of the good yelp reviews. The place was nice, the room was comfortable. The price was better than the other B&B in the area. The only part we disliked was the breakfast, not that it was bad tasting, but not what you would except in a B&B. The first day was four grain cereal with a poached pear and a bran muffin with fruit. The next morning three whole wheat pancakes with two pieces of bacon. Again tasted great but not the hearty breakfast you expect in a B&B. First day we thought it was just us, but then in town we ran into one of the couples staying there. After saying hi they immediately started to tell us how they were coming down from the breakfast sugar high and hungry again. So overall good place to stay considering it is less expensive than the other B&Bs. We personally prefer less sugar and more protein in our breakfast, but that is a personal preference. Staying there two nights Fri and Sat, we expected eggs for at least one day. I use yelp a lot but first time writing a review. Also the another couple staying there picked the farmhouse because of yelp. I just don't get the over the top five star reviews, although it is an ok place to stay. Also the other reviews mentioned a to go lunch, that is not normal but was part of a Living Social deal. read more

This really was as good as it gets. We spent two lovely nights at the Farmhouse- in the room on the first floor. Our little porch looked out on woods, and our bed was the most comfortable I've slept in at any B and B. Margie was a lovely host, and I truly enjoyed her fine breakfasts, and the care she took making my food- as i have a pretty severe allergy. Not only were her breakfasts lovely (and eating while looking out on her garden was such a treat!) but the lunch she packed for us was just wonderful. We went from the Farmhouse to another Inn right off Hwy 1- I was so unhappy at the next place, and I wish we had spent ALL our time at the Farmhouse. I hope we can make the time to return soon. This is a special place- tucked away in the quiet of the trees, you feel so isolated- even though you are just minutes from town. Don't miss eating at McCallums, or getting pizza and ice cream at Frankies, and if they have the fresh raspberries in white chocolate at the Chocolate house- try them! Everything else is good too. We had a splendid 30th anniversary in Mendocino- and the Farmhouse played a big part in that. If you read this Margie, thank you so much for the memories. We will treasure them. read more

We stayed for two nights and could not have asked for anything more! The grounds were beautiful. Our room was clean, warm, and cozy. We forgot what it was like to sleep in complete silence away from all the city noise.The mornings were the best part. They have a fire going in the morning with pleasant music softly playing. The breakfast was to die for. Both my wife and I are vegan and they were 100% accommodating. We were served a tofu scramble on the second day, which was the best I have had. This is a gorgeous B&B. So clean, the rooms are elegantly decorated, and the large common area is comfortable, with cute books and decorations. Our private bathroom was spotless and I loved the full size tub. Breakfast is, as many others have commented, delicious. Marge can accommodate you if you don't eat meat. It's not your grandma's B&B--lace doilies are refreshingly sparse in number. A few cons, which did not by any stretch ruin our experience, but should be prepared for. Mosquitos are present in the parking lot, so I recommend putting on a little bug spray right before you get there. We squashed a big one that made it into our car. Eek! But it's okay, because we're in the country, so of course bugs outside are normal. There were no mozzies in the house, and there is free bug spray in the bathroom. So thoughtful! Perhaps due to the lack of lace doilies, I thought I would be okay with my mild dust mite / mold allergy. Unfortunately, there is some kind of dust or mold in the rooms, so those with allergies would be wise to pop a Zyrtec first. Yes, it's true that Marge is a wee bit grumpy in the mornings, which is totally fine because she's not a robot and I already expected that from reading the reviews. But if you require super cheerful service in the AM, probably not the place for you. She was on the other hand, really nice when we checked in. That's okay, I'm not a morning person either! All in all, we felt welcomed in a beautiful B&B, and a few minor hitches did not detract from our overall lovely stay. read more

We had a delightful and restful experience at the Mendocino Farmhouse. The barn cottages are so romantic and feel like a retreat with the real fireplaces and peaceful outdoor sitting areas to enjoy the sun with a morning cup of coffee. The gardens were in full bloom, the grassy area by the pond was warm and relaxing, and Margie's fresh breakfasts were delicious. The rooms are decorated with lovely little details. Only 6 minutes from town, and surrounded by redwood trees, Mendocino Farmhouse is quiet, beautiful and really gets away from it all. I will be going back! read more

Awesome! My friends and I wanted a girl's getaway for the weekend. We are so happy we picked this B&B because Margie is so great! She treated us like family in a low key way making sure we were comfortable and satisfied. The grounds are just beautiful with the pond and Redwood tree groves. My husband and I have been going to the Mendocino Farmhouse for special get aways for over 20 years. We just went this last weekend for our Anniversary, and it always feels special and like home away from home at the same time. Margie as usual, gives us a warm greeting and, Sage, the dog, comes out to greet each car that arrives. Delicious breakfasts! The surrounding gardens, pond and forest are so beautiful and serene. I called to check in if kids were included in the count because we have three kids. She started laughing loudly and said I can't not accommodate you. The Mendocino Farmhouse is an amazing spot. I was married there this summer and my family and I took over the Farmhouse for the event weekend. Margie and Karin were nothing but professional and accomodating. They took care of all the details so we could all just relax. Margie's breakfasts were delicious and she also took care of all of our food for the wedding. The rooms are so cozy and peaceful, I couldn't even pick a favorite! All in all, I was so grateful to have chosen the Farmhouse and can't wait to return. We could not have asked for a better setting or service for us and our families.
