We stayed at the Inn just after Christmas through New Year's Eve in one of the cottages. Our previous stay was in one of the regular inn rooms overlooking the ocean. Both stays were great. The main inn rooms we stayed before had stairs to the second floor so it was a little challenging bringing in golf clubs and luggage but not a deal breaker since the room views are amazing! Some of the cottages are located across the highway from the main inn and restaurant. This is a blessing because it is not busy at all because there are only 4 cottages. Parking is right in front of your room. But when staying in the regular rooms you can walk to the restaurant, golf and spa. However, we loved the seclusion over the convenience. The cottages all have a private deck with a spa. We definitely took advantage of this perk over our stay even in the rain. The cottage also had a jetted tub with a window overlooking the ocean. The views from the room with the back of the cottage mostly windows was breathtaking with comfy chairs and a cozy fireplace. It was storming the first few days so we definitely took advantage of the coziness of the room relaxing with wine and a great book. The deck has seating and a table for two along with the spa. Once the weather cleared we enjoyed some wine and coffee in the morning while taking in the views. The bathroom had the jetted tub and a stand in enclosed shower. It was clean and had plenty of towels, etc. For housekeeping you can request it if your stay is more than 3 days. We did ask for coffee pods and sugar for coffee on the days we didn't go out or get room service. The bathroom could do with some modern updates to the floor tiles and such but overall it met our needs during our stay. There is a mini fridge, microwave and Keurig coffee maker with some supplies in a little nook. The bed was comfortable and warm considering the coastal storms and lower temps in December. We opted to extend our stay to enjoy the New Year's Eve dinner and music at the inn restaurant. We also golfed twice while we stayed and utilized the golf range. We love this little course that is filled with wildlife and has some challenging fairways and greens. We spotted deer, woodpeckers and lots of other birds. Overall we love the Mendocino area and this quaint little Inn. We love the history and the fact that it has a tennis court, golf course, spa, restaurant and bar as amenities. We hiked several of the parks and headlands during our stay as well so there is a lot to see and do in the area. We went into Mendocino and Fort Bragg for shopping and sight seeing. The glass beach is only about 20 minutes away. If you want a super relaxing place to stay we definitely recommend the Little River Inn.

November 6-9, 2024. What a beautiful property with rooms that have spectacular views. We stayed here for 3 nights, and had a wonderful time. We booked a traditional upstairs room with an ocean view, and were very pleased. The room was comfortable, and included all that we needed--a TV (we did not use), a small refrigerator, Keurig machine, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, AND A BALCONY WITH A VIEW OF THE PACIFIC OCEAN!!! The balcony had two comfortable rocking chairs and a small table. It is a shared veranda, so it is not a private balcony, but there is a slight partition between each room, so you definitely have your "own" space. There is an on-site bar and restaurant. You can also order breakfast the night before to be delivered to your room in the morning. We did not try the restaurant, so I can't comment on that, but it looked nice. There is a trail from the property to Van Damme State Park. It's less than 1/4 mile to the park, and the trail, although narrow, is level and easy. It gets a bit steep right before you enter the Park, but nothing very strenuous. Once you get to the park, you can cross across Highway 1 (be careful here!) and access the beach. The property also has a golf course and a tennis court. On another note, the website for the Little River Inn is very informative, with 360 degree views of the rooms and information about what you may like, and what you may not like, about each room type. (For instance, some people don't like the shared veranda.) The website also showed which room James Dean stayed in when he filmed "East of Eden" (The room next to the bar, of course!) As you can see on their website, they have rooms with fireplaces, stand alone cottages, and even some pet-friendly rooms. Check it out!

Little River Inn, Mendocino , CA - November 6-9, 2024. We arrived on a Wednesday at about 3:30 pm for a three night stay. Checkin is at 4 pm, but the very friendly woman at the checkout counter said our room was ready. We were in room 223, which is an oceanview room on the top floor. We had planned the trip in July for the day after the National election as a way to escape exposure to the frenzied chaos we anticipated might occur afterwards. We were joined at the Inn by three other friends as well in hopes that this beautiful spot and all the activities it had to offer would take our minds off the election results and soothe our senses. Our room was nicely appointed with a very comfortable king size bed, modern furniture (with two comfortable chairs looking out to the ocean), cheerful room acsents, a closet with ironing board and iron, a nice bathroom (with a Keurig machine with coffee and tea, and a blow dryer). A sliding glass door opened out to a shared veranda with a couple rocking chairs and small table looking at the beautiful ocean with the sound of the waves below. After moving our luggage from the car to our room, we joined our friends in another oceanview room on the first floor. It was laid out a little different than ours and had a wet bar and wood burning fireplace. We enjoyed seeing a beautiful sunset off of their outside patio as we enjoyed hors d'oeuvres and our favorite cocktails. Later in the evening, I got a text from hotel staff member Ann asking if we were satisfied with our room. I answered the we were very satisfied. We stayed up a little later than we should have that first night and were a little slow to wake up the following morning, but after a few cups of coffee and breakfast, we were ready to go out and about. We headed to Jug Handle State Reserve just a little north of Mendocino. The 2.5 mile walk up the ecological staircase from the ocean to the pigmy forest was invigorating as we bathed our senses in the comforting pine and redwood forest. We enjoyed a nice lunch afterwards in Mendocino at Patterson's Pub, a favorite stop of ours. We met up at our friend's room again later that night and had a similar time as the night before, socializing, sharing stories, and surprisingly not talking about politics. The following day was a little more laid back than the first day. My wife did a one hour hike to Van Damme State Park, which is only a stone's throw away from the hotel, and I relaxed at the room. We drove into Mendocino a little later and checked out the Compass Rose Leather shop where our friend hoped to get a new strap for his mandolin. No luck with that but we found a nice hand crafted heart shaped necklace for my wife. Later that evening, we made the short 2.5 mile drive south to the Heritage Inn 5200 Restaurant where we had a delicious dinner with wine as we listened to a wonderful pianist. We were very happy with the three days we spent at Little River Inn. It was truly medicine for the soul.

We love staying here, large rooms that are pet friendly! You couldn't ask for a better view too. Such nice staff and our room was very clean.

Such a cute inn celebrating 75 years

This was my first time staying here. Taylor at the front desk was such a delight! She was able to change our room so we had an unobstructed view of the ocean. And it was so worth it! The only problem we had, which was out of control of the hotel was an family that decided our room was going to be there new home! We did make mention of this but unfortunately we were just unlucky in not getting rid of them. The room itself was more than enough for my mom and I. This trip was a belated bday gift as she no longer lives in California. I love that they have taken on what looks to be like the new "thing" in having large refillable bottles of all the toiletry products. Made packing a lot easier. The restaurant was alao quite delicious. Although it's very off putting having the head still attached the rock cod was absolutely divine!! Big enough to split as well. All in all a great stay! I will absolutely be coming back and hopefully that family of has moved on!!

This was our first stay at the little river inn and it was an absolute dream. We got the rooms that had a balcony ocean view and the views were amazing. We checked in on a Friday and caught a beautiful sunset. The check in process was seamless and our rooms were ready earlier than expected. During our time at the inn, we had breakfast and enjoyed the four course Thanksgiving meal They had ample options for breakfast and really tasty coffee. Their thanksgiving course meal was amazing. We started off with a pumpkin/butternut squash bisque, an amazing bleu cheese, apple, candied walnuts with cider vinaigrette salad, a guinea hen plate with veggie medley and ended with an amazing pumpkin bread pudding (I still dream of that meal). The town of Mendocino is minutes away with lots to explore.

    Sooo many stars

Excellent stay at the Little River Inn for 4 nights in the White Cottage - the pics are from the back deck - you can sit and just listen to the ocean pounding against the rocks and watch the sunset and a sky full of stars! We also dined at the restaurant one night for dinner - service and food were excellent! And we ordered room service which was also great! We have stayed at other places and this is our 3rd visit in the Cottages! Already planning our next visit!

Just got back from a long weekend at Little River Inn. This was our first visit - but many friends had recommended to us over the years. Our stay was wonderful. The room was very comfortable and the views spectacular. We had room service breakfasts each morning which were delicious. We only had dinner one night at the restaurant but we loved it. We golfed one day as well - beautiful course. Our only minor issue was a light that was shining on our back porch at night and staff had that addressed within minutes. Such rich history and warm friendly staff. Amazing that this is a family owned place. Hoping to visit again very soon.

    View from porch.

We had room 103. Great ocean views from either in room or on porch. Porch rocking chairs were comfortable. Room has a gas wood stove which added a nice ambiance on the cool evenings. We will stay here again. Parking was numbered for this room and close.

It is located a couple of miles away from the town, in a clearing in a forest. It is so quiet there that you can hear the silence! (Except in the evening where the frogs in the pond entertain with a pleasant concert of frog music; it is a nice sound and relatively quiet). It is very quiet since the house is located down a gravel road through the forest. The gardens are filled with a large variety of colorful flowers that were beautiful. The home cooked breakfasts are very good. The eggs come from the resident chickens. Very fresh eggs! We stayed three nights. We had the downstairs room in the main house, adjacent to the pleasant common living room, where enjoyed sitting in the evenings. Our room had glass doors that opened up to a deck that overlooked the woods in the back of the house. Beautiful. This was a relaxing trip for us. Nonetheless, we met other pleasant guests whom we enjoyed conversation with over breakfast. I was happy with our room which was comfortable, cute, and spacious enough. However, there was a lingering dank smell of either mildew or animal urine which I couldn't exactly put my finger on. Overall, we had a pleasant stay here on our first visit to Mendocino.

I was super excited for our little family getaway after hearing great reviews and looking at all the online images. Sadly, the hotel was disappointing. The first room they gave us was tiny, not what I expected after viewing the rooms on their website. From some reason the thermostat was set to 90* and it was soooo hot in there the strawberries I bought were totally melted. The nasty part was after unloading and attempting to relax in our room, we saw fingernail clippings on the carpet, then my husband looked at the bed. There was long black hairs all over the bed and on the mattress, no mattress cover by the way, no fitted sheet; just a mattress topper. Odd, especially for what is supposed to be a nice hotel. He was grossed out by the nails and hair that we were going to ask for another room and then I noticed an old contact lens on the bedside table. Was this room even cleaned or just the bed remade by a maid who is losing her hair?! The second room they gave us, looked more like the photos - thank goodness. However, there was a broken wine glass behind the night stand and therefore only one wine glass available. Are the cleaners blind or just don't care. It was odd that my husband found a broken glass upon entry into the room but s/he didn't find it the whole time they were supposedly cleaning it and setting up for new guests?! The curtains were shredded on the edges and in the middle - large gashes across the drapes, assuming because its old, doesn't look like a single accident. A drawer from the closet was missing, the carpet was dirty our feet turned black from walking on it. The shower head had iron build-up and was mostly green. For the most part the staff was good and helpful, but the place is run down and surprisingly filthy dirty. I do not recommend Heritage House. We did not complain about all these issues, although now I wish I did. However the hotel did send me a follow survey via email asking about our stay and I mentioned all of these things and its been over a week now and no one has followed up. Beware -- pictures are not always what they seem. Stay elsewhere or get an air bnb!

My husband is from New Zealand and I grew up in Germany so we had many international guests join us in Mendocino at MacCallum House for our Wedding and we couldn't have heard more rave reviews. There were many times our guests excitedly exclaimed to us that it was the best wedding they had ever been to! We picked the Mendocino Overlook for our Ceremony and were shuttled to and from by the stretch limo included in our package from MacCallum House. What a beautiful ceremony location which is a quick ride from MacCallum House. We were ever so lucky with the weather, sunshine, light winds and blue skies! Our reception was out in a tent on the grounds of MacCallum House. We had a photo booth, fire pit and lounge seating outside the tent. Inside the tent was the dance floor, more lounge seating and of course the bar! Our tent reception ended at 10pm but we are so happy the we transitioned seamlessly into the Mac House were the party continued on until much later! The dance party we were able to host inside MacCallum House with our DJ was one of our highlights. The food that Alan puts together is out of this world. We are fine dining restaurant lovers and wanted to make sure that our Wedding included our love of good food and wine. Mac House did not disappoint. Every steak was cooked to perfection and my vegetarian sister was in heaven with her vegetarian options! All of the appetizers that were passed were exactly as we had always hoped for, a touch of sushi was such a hit! My wine loving parents were thrilled with our wine options and my Whiskey loving husband and his friends were pleased with the Spirit and Cocktail options. We are so happy that we added on Late Night food for our guests which were put out in the MacCallum House during the late night dance party. We opted for the Morning after brunch. The Mac House did a fantastic job of changing up the decor a little in the tent and welcomed our guests back at 10am the morning following our Wedding. It was such a lovely way to end our Wedding weekend, sharing stories from the previous night, sharing a few last drinks (Mimosas and bloody Marys) and finally saying our goodbyes. Elisa was our onsite coordinator and I can not praise her enough. She made sure that every need was taken care of on our special day. Furthermore, she was so responsive and organized in the lead up to our wedding weekend. She responded to texts, calls and emails quickly and was able to predict any hiccup before it even occurred. Her personality is well suited for her job and she makes you feel more like you are communicating with your best friend while planning for the big day! Mollie, MacCallum House's General Manager, is ever so heartwarming and welcoming and the rest of the Mac team made sure all of our guests were well attended to and needs met! We had multiple planning weekends up in Mendocino and each time we arrived, we were met with such enthusiasm and open arms by the Mac House team. We went back to Mac House in October of 2019 following our July 2019 wedding and again we were made to feel so at home. You can't beat a cocktail or glass of wine in the Whale Bar, that's for sure. What we liked about the property: - A reasonable number of EV chargers at the main property (see note below) - Beautiful main property grounds complete with a small garden, chickens, and even llamas; walking around the property was definitely one of the highlights of our stay - Plenty of parking both at the main property and the property across the street (formerly Inn at the Cobbler's Walk) - Access to shared facilities that included a microwave, hot coffee most of the day, tea, and a shared refrigerator if your unit doesn't include one - Pretty good WiFi coverage across both properties, though at times, it was quite slow at the property across the street. - Our unit (Deluxe King Suite) was very clean and had a small kitchen sink with a microwave and mini fridge, which was way more convenient than using the shared amenities. Things that fell short of expectations: - All of the rooms we researched advertised a wood burning fireplace as an amenity. When we got to the room, there was a sign saying not to use it. This felt a little deceptive--if the fireplaces aren't to be used, it doesn't make sense to list them as an amenity. We picked this place specifically for having the fireplace. - They have 5-6 EV chargers on property but most of them were broken. I believe there were only 2 working chargers, one near the reception and the other near the second parking area on the main property. Thankfully, there wasn't much demand for them while we were there so it didn't end up being an issue, but I can see that being very frustrating if you stay specifically at this property because of access to EV charging. - If you stay in the units that were formerly part of the Inn at Cobbler's Walk across the street from the main property, there really is no view to speak of. It's possible some higher units have a VERY distant view maybe a half mile or so down Highway 1, but having any units at this property that list an ocean view seems highly deceptive and the room photographs are highly telling--if there was a stunning view, it'd be prominently featured in the photos. If you're going for ocean views, you should consider another property (Heritage House and Harbor House for example have "real" ocean views) - Breakfast is included each morning of the stay (after check-in). It wasn't anything special--just serviceable in our opinion. For example, a lot of the egg "dishes" were simply scrambled eggs poured into a pyrex that was either microwaved or baked in a water bath. - At the property across the street, there is one unit that has 4 rooms in it and unfortunately, the walls are quite thin, to the point where you can hear other conversations through the wall at regular speaking volume. The cottage (a standalone unit) is definitely the move if you're on that side of the property. - In our unit (Deluxe King Suite), the central air wasn't working at all (we tried both cooling and heating). Two of the windows had screens so we just used them to regulate temps. I wish the bathroom window and the sliding door to the balcony had screens. We left the bathroom window open to vent steam from showering and ended up with a few mosquito/insect bites while we slept. - There is no daily cleaning service so this is much closer to a managed AirBnb than a hotel. You can request additional/new towels and they will bring them for you, but that means you will be accumulating trash for the duration of your stay. - Lastly, I responded to a text message asking about our stay so far asking to adjust our breakfast order and about an outdoor bin to throw trash away in. They adjusted the breakfast order but never replied to the message, which I thought was extremely poor service. It would've been fine if they just said that there wasn't an outdoor bin for us to remove trash from our unit, but instead they chose not to reply. Very disappointed in that. Overall, we made the most of our stay. Despite not having a promised wood burning fireplace or a view, we ate great food, drank amazing wines, and enjoyed the cool coastal air. The trip was still well worth it, however it's unlikely we will consider SCP properties in the future as the price just did not warranty the hard or soft product we received.
