Literally demanded we tip him before he would serve us our first beer. I'm obviously going to tip, is the assumption that I've never been to a bar or restaurant before?!?. The good: pinball and games are free when you order a drink. Games are in OK shape - especially given the free price tag. The bad: This has to be one of the dirtiest bars I've ever been in. The mens room was a health hazard with god knows what floating in the toilet, flies buzzing about and a half broken flusher. The arcade area had an indescribable stank similar to Bourbon St. in New Orleans. The AC was also not working well. If you can deal with the gross, it's a fine place to hang out. 2.5 stars rounded up to 3 because of free games. read more

This barcade is between 3-4 stars. It's definitely a nice little bar that's tucked away in Quebec City and my wife enjoyed an hour or so here. All the games are free and there was no cover. The drinks are actually reasonably priced, so it's a bar with some pinball as well as old school games. Space-wise it's a little narrow, but it makes good use of the space. I didn't drink, but my wife did and enjoyed her drinks. The machines even have little cupholders which are helpful. The game selection could use some improvement, but they had an old school Tetris machine, a bunch of pinball and pac man would be some of the highlights. It was a chill place with a laid back vibe. My friends showed me a great time in there with all the old school arcade games despite a few of them being broken. Pinball was a load of fun and drinks were tasty! They'll drag me back here for sure and I'll enjoy it in there again once more! Hopefully with a little more French under my belt... read more

Amazing find! On our way to dinner passed our restaurant 3 times, I will get to that in their review. Stopped in for a beer and some good chat with Simon the bartender and some really nice customers. We came back after dinner for a night cap and Simon informed us that all of the Retro Pinball, PacMan like games sere free to play if drinking, we were so we played. I felt like I was 12 again but buzzed. Played for a few hours and had a blast. Great vibe, good drinks s and beer, a definite stop if in the St Roch area of Quebec City. read more

I like this bar in concept, but in reality, the execution is a total FAIL. Half of the machines don't work. Seriously?? The back room with all of the video games had no A/C, so it was a virtual sauna. And, finally, the main reason for the two stars, is that the d-bag bartender after serving me my beer informed me that I needed to tip him.....again...SERIOUSLY??!!! I am from the United States, not Europe.....I understand the concept of tipping, which is something that I do without fail. This place left me with a seriously bad feeling in my gut. My husband and I just happened to spot this on our way to dinner and decided to come afterwards. What a fantastic find! The staff was so friendly and the beer was cheap. There is a great selection of arcade games that are free to play! We have a bar similar to this in Atlanta, but you have to pay to play in addition to your drinks and food. Very cool bar and great idea! While looking for a low-key bar to check out after dinner near our hotel, my wife and I stumbled upon MacFly. We were greeted by the bartender who told us that all games were free to play as long as we each got a drink. Seemed very fair, so we each got something, played a bunch of games and had a great time. I was surprised at the amount of old-school arcade and pinball games to choose from. Not as many as Dave and Busters, but more than you'd ever expect to find at a bar. Oh man, I wish more bars were like this! I don't drink much, so going to bar after bar with friends can get abut repetitious and boring after pretty quickly for me. We have a few bars where I'm from with games but not many with this many -- oh, and none that have FREE GAMES!! Yes, every pinball and arcade game is FREE! It was so much fun! There's about 6 pinball machines and like 20 arcade cabinets. I personally LOVED the Track & Field cabinet as it's incredibly interactive and fun to compete against people in. I really wanted to like this place. It has gotten some write-ups in the paper so I wanted to give it a chance. Video games, cool. Draft beers, ok. There was a slob sitting at the bar who was obnoxious to the customers. The staff seems to put up with him. The bar is small enough that he's unavoidable. A tubby guy with a scooter helmet. While I was trying to order a drink this guy was loud bragging about his stamp collection and desperately trying to get the attention of anyone nearby. If you need that video game fix, this may be your only option. If you want to have a drink in a pleasant space without having to avoid or engage a slovenly lush, go someplace else. read more

Let me start by saying, my visit to Quebec was during "the Slow season" in between New Years and Winter Carnival. So my experience may differ from a typical experience. Apparently, this is the place to go!! Everyone I told or asked seemed to love and know about Macfly's!! Driving around the city, I got lost and stumbled into Macfly's. It's full old arcade games (Ms Pacman, donkey kong, mario brothers, etc all free to play), pinball machines and foosball table. We only had a few drinks, which were strong and very reasonably priced. The crowd was very diverse to say the least, there was definitely a throwback, old school, hipster vibe and ambiance. In some ways that is part of the charm of the place, like most of the vintage bars (my experience is similar type of bars in Brooklyn). You should go for the experience, the nostalgia of playing games and having some beers.... or during your visit you can tell the locals you went and see there reaction, and judge for yourself. read more
