Took my laptop in for repairs. Was given a 5 day timeline. Called 7 days later to follow up. Was curtly told when it was done, THEY would call ME. Called again 7 days later. Still hadn't started the repair. All interactions with the service desk he was rude and condescending. Absolutely top notch repair techs! Earlier last week I had taken my older MacBook Air laptop (that had been put on lock mode after I'd lost it), to Apple Boise Town Square location, on the suggestion of Apple support, because they were unable to help me open it again. The Apple mall store then held it five days, only to call me and tell me they had to wait in some sort of support query for days, and then "found out" my laptop was just too old to be unlocked. PLEASE.... So from there I took in to MacLife Boise, where a man named Maxwell worked on it for me. The next day in morning I picked it back up, and Maxwell said it took him 15 minutes to unlock, so the pick up call actually came the same day I'd dropped it off. I was charged a very fair fee and was on my way. Both of these providers I'd mentioned are supposed to have access to the same tools, same Apple Support tech Gods on high, so why such a different experience? I don't know the answer, but for me this is the difference between what a service oriented provider does, vs a sales oriented one. You can buy a Mac product anywhere these days, so there is nothing special about people who sell them. What sets them apart is 100% service, which MacLife Boise shows they know very well how to provide. When I do buy my next computer when this oldie does stop working though, I'll for sure go back and support MacLife! read more

Returned with some minor questions and tutoring about my IMac. Maxwell helped me and because it was a quick minor situation he did not charge me. Recently my gmail was not coming in ( my Mac is a 2011 system) . I returned to my trusted helpers and Maxwell and Evan explained that my system has become obsolete. They explained my options, again no hard up sell , just the facts. I chose to purchase a new IMac from Maclife , they transferred everything, made me super comfortable and offered to be there for me , as always. I rarely need a computer repaired, but even Macs can blow up a hard drive after 8 years. So taking it in to this business I was surprise that they concurred with my SWAG that the hard drive had died. So, it was fixable and a new HD was the answer. (It is amazing how big and cheap HD have gotten. ) An ever bigger surprised, was how quickly got to it. A day or two was it. We were visiting from out of town....and came with an "emergency". Our adult daughter, who was working at a coffee shop, realized her lap top was dying and that her charger chord wasn't working. We took this problem on to solve and return BEFORE her lap top died! We were asking and prepared to buy the chord and the charger box, not realizing they were able to be separated. The gentleman who helped us, showed us that we didn't need to do that. He pulled them apart and charged us for the chord. He could have easily kept quiet and given us what we asked for but he was a man of honor and integrity and let me tell you.... I believe this business will continue to do well because of this man. I don't know if he was the owner or what...but he left an impression on me! Truth be told, we KNEW they were able to be separated...my husband and I were just in a rush and slight panic. i returned home several hours ago..I have a mini iPad that is practically new and have used it minimally but thought I'd bring it on an upcoming trip ; after I charged it up, it required a software update and a passcode..I erred quite a number of times and changed passcode and it locked up!! Took it to Maclife and was ready in a very short time!! Another employee got it started in a very short time of which I am soo grateful; Evan had to figure out which is what that I had written on my password book; more complications that my iPhone had a different pw, different iCloud email, etc. He analyzed, resolved it and after requesting a simplified method to passcode, he resolved it in a short time; I definitely recommend Maclife's services!! they have always been soo very helpful, in every way!! My MacBook Air M1 wasn't charging; it recognized that it was plugged in but said 'not charging.' I tried everything I could think of and ended up here to let the pros check it out. Evan quickly diagnosed the culprit: a bad charger cord. He didn't charge me for the service, only the replacement cord. I was in and out in 15 minutes. I took my MacBook Pro here to have a 1 TB hard drive installed. I explained to Maxwell how much of a pinch I was in because I use my computer for my job and couldn't afford to miss time away from my clients work. I've read some of the reviews many quite old and non-favorable. My first thought was we can't be talking about the same place. At the recommendation of a friend, my wife and I visited "MacLife" in Boise on Overland Rd. We were greeted by an employee named "Heather" who directed us to the "MacBook" Pro's. Heather was very helpful and gave us a great education on the pros and cons of each of the computers. We settled on a computer and unfortunately we were forced to wait several days in order to receive the product. Upon returning to the store we were again greeted by Heather who set up the computer and walked us through a familiarization process. She furthermore advised us of regularly scheduled Mac classes given at the MacLife store. Fast forward to today where both my wife and I attended two Mac classes at the MacLife store. Both classes were taught by "Larry" who spoke and taught at a level that all students seemed able to grasp. Larry taught at a slow to moderate pace making sure no one was left behind. He provided great visual application to everything he taught. Larry also had a great sense of humor interjecting it throughout the presentation. My wife and I both agree the classes were extremely educational and we plan to take more. read more

Until the Apple store came to Boise, Maclife was pretty much the only ballgame in town and so I tolerated them. The staff is condescending, the prices are high, and the store wreaks of the unfortunate elitism that people stereotypically associate with Mac users. The store has a decent selection of Apple related accessories but the Apple store in the Boise Towne Square mall has better pricing on the same items. The deal killer for me is the attitude of the staff and their pushy sales tactics. These guys are the cheesy car salesmen of the computing world. If you need Mac stuff, get it from the Apple store or online but don't shop here. read more

I brought my year-old laptop in there about eight times in a span of several weeks, every time the problem never fixed. I just kept having to pay more, and they know they have you by the balls and can just keep making you pay more and more. When I let them have possession of my laptop, I had the kid check it in with several special notes that said to call me with a quote before they did anything. They went right ahead and supposedly fixed it. I wasn't too mad about that, but then I had to go back there over a span of two months, and guess what, I am still not able to use my disc drive. Apple had a service announcement regarding failure of the 3 terabit hard-drives, of which my computer was one. They contracted with MacLife out of Boise who sent a technician named "Russel" up to replace the drive. When I quested him about losing my data he informed me that I shouldn't have any concerns as I have "Time Machine" with automatic back-up to an external hard-drive. Upon completion of the installation he told me that he had started the back-up process and due to the size of the data it would take "4-6 hours to complete." I had errands to run and when I came home before my softball game at 6:45 pm the computer said there was still (paraphrased) "1 hour and 20 minutes to completion." When I can back from the game at 9:20 pm the "back up" had finished and there was NO data backed up and my computer was basically a clean boot as seen with brand new computers!! A phone call to MacLife in Boise lead me to the owner "Eric" who said there must have been an "error" on the back-up and, most importantly, that their contract with Apple only states "that we replace the hard drive and we are not responsible for data recovery." Classless act, which doesn't surprise me considering they represent Apple, who has become an arrogant anti-customer service corporation. Well Eric, you are a unethical and immoral individual who hides behind the "black & white" of contracts versus standing up and doing the right thing. I feel sorry for your family! read more

Granted this is not THE Mac Story, it's definitely a nice place to have in a small town. I was able to pick up an inexpensive audio cable to connect my iPod to our rental car stereo system. The place was really neat and it had a lot of inexpensive alternatives for Mac Users in regards to keyboards, cables, cases, etc. They were gracious enough to let us roam a few minuted before closing down (they are open late on Thursdays) and we appreciated it. This is the way to go when getting a new Mac product. I brought in my 2019 MacBook Air laptop that had a fried logic board. I left with a new Mac Mini with all of my data transferred over from the old hard drive. I've learned my lesson and got AppleCare for the new machine. After buying my first MacBook in 2010 I had a great experience with them helping me setup my new Mac. It finally died in 2021 so I went back to them and they were able to transfer my new MacBook Air no problem. Very helpful and they said it would take 3 hours to transfer and it only took 1 hour. read more

My review is on the store in downtown as this is the only one I have gone to. I felt quite lost when we moved to Boise, as we are a Mac family and didn't want to deal with shipping our toys if fixing was needed. I found MacLife downtown and decided to check it out. First off the staff were great, there to help you if you needed but not at all pushy. The part that I did appreciate is that they are not self or store proclaimed "Geniuses". If you have ever been to an Apple store and dealt with the "Geniuses" then you may find yourself walking out with elevated blood pressure, thinking these "Geniuses" are all idiots! At MacLife, the staff are great. We brought in a laptop that was now accepting disks and he was able to fix it in a matter of 2 minutes no exaggeration. DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG THAT WOULD HAVE TAKEN IN AN APPLE STORE........FOREVER! We have gone in a few times to purchase other things and have asked for the staff assistance and have never been up-sold (something I am impressed with). So in closing I have to say that thus far I am grateful for MacLife in downtown and also grateful that I can just go in and get what I need and not have to worry about some "Genius" approaching me and selling me something he or she knows nothing about. read more

The sales people are a little pushy, not the easiest location to get to.... but the big problem is the attitude. I have been using Apple computers since the AppleII, I work on Apples everyday for 10-15hrs, either video editing or programming. So I was a little put off when a store clerk at MacLife talked down to me. I was looking at the Leopard OS. Apple had recently released a update and I had yet to hear if all the bugs were worked out with adobe software. I asked the clerk how the new OS was, and if the update had fixed things. He just made a pig grunt, I asked "so not good?" He said "Well I actually use my computer, but a casual user like yourself should be fine". I have no doubt that I put more hours on mac computers then this idiot.. All I wanted to know was if the OS fix had solved issues, not that he was not a "casual user". I wish there was another place in Boise for us Apple users, one that didn't come with the snotty attitude. Now that there is a Apple store, there is no need to be talked down to at all. They've expanded my storage on laptops and today fixed my daughter's phone when the Apple store had told us it was unfixable (charge cord end got stuck in charge port, broke off). Knowledgeable, professional service, works with AppleCare coverage, and much easier to get into than the Apple store (Genius Bar). Highly recommend ! read more

I have did business here way before they opened the Apple store in the mall, every now and then I still come back and am reminded why I go to the mall instead. I understand the salesman are on commission but that is no reason for the in your face service or lack of service (if they are busy). Apple store always has around 25 associates to help, this place on a good day maybe 3. If you don't mind paying top dollar for accessories and are in a hurry it can be alluring. What you will find most days is salesmen who are not trained in multi selling, if 3 customers are in the store then that 5 minute accessory trip just turned into 30 mins. (That's what happened to me BUT I left) The other day I went in to take a look at the new 2015 macbook to see it in person, we were greeted promptly by a salesman at the desk. We walked over and played with the macbook and had some questions, salesman was still at his desk. It seemed he did not mind answering questions as long as he didn't leave his desk. The store was empty both customers and other salesman, so no surprise we left and I met someone on Craigslist and bought the same macbook $600 cheaper. The experience has been consistently bad and only seems to get worse :( read more

I recently bought an Iphone and everywhere I went didn't have the greatest selection in hard shell covers. I called up this place to ask if they have a wider and better selection for iphone covers and they did. I drove there and I was pleased with the selections they have. They have a lot of accessories for laptops, iphones, ipods, and any Apple related products. This place is a little pricey but your getting your moneys worth. The service was great. A lot of the workers where there to help and asked if we had any questions. I really do appreciate them asking. Yay MACLIFE. read more

Since there is no mac store in Boise, we went here to try out the new ipad and mac mini. The guy working there was very friendly but a bit pushy. He showed me the ipad but wouldn't leave me alone to look at it by myself. They had tons of different accessories to go with all the different apple products. read more

WOW what service!! Kevin Love asked the right questions and "listened" to my needs and wants and helped me find the right computer for my needs for far less $ than I anticipated. He also made sure my new computer was set up from my old one and ready to operate the same afternoon in an amazingly short period of time. This review is coming from a user of apple products for many years now. I had a old MBP that broke and could not longer be service because of age and because at the time they were the only mac certified store in boise i bought a new mbp there. It worked for a couple of months fine and we got apple care just in case anything happened. The first problem was that my keyboard stopped working randomly. This mind you was not a user error. This was something that should have been covered under the apple care that we paid 300 bucks for. However it was not. They charged us 500 some odd dollars for something that should have been free. My next problem. Is that my hard drive failed. Now credit to mac life they fixed it for free under the AppleCare warranty however I kid you not the day I got my computer back I started having display issues. It started flickering and going out on me randomly. We took it to them again and said $750 to replace the screen and logic board. I am not the average joe when it come to comouters and i knew that 750 was a load of bs and it should have been covered under warranty. so I ship my computer into apple and guess what... covered it for free. So the moral of this review is do not go to mac life. They are a bunch of greedy people who will do anything to get your money. If it is an issue with your mac ship it into apple. read more
