I will admit that we visited the bar on a weeknight so there were not a lot of other visitors in the establishment. Luckily, I did not have the same negative experience as some of some of the other reviewers. I hope this means that the establishment has changed some of it business practices. I guess time will tell.

I have to go to work right now but FIRST, I MUST yelp about what a MAJOR TOOL the (hipster, bearded, tall, extremely tired looking/baggy-eyed) doorguy was last night (Thursday, Dec 12, 2013): Let me preface this by saying that I've been to this bar many, MANY times but that I forgot my ID in my other jacket this time, so the door guy refuses to let me which is TOTALLY UNDERSTANDABLE (I used to bartend and would turn people away for no ID all the time; it's the law) BUT what really pissed me off is that THEN, after I've stepped outside and am trying to text my friends the about the situation, I stand in front of the bar, which by the way is COMPLETELY DESERTED (IT WAS BLISTERING FUCKING COLD! and I was only trying to stand there to get shelter from the wind for a second; can't text with gloves on) and I am on the sidewalk but I guess a little to close to the plastic couch they call an "outside bar" (even though there is no alcohol or other people IN SIGHT (due to aforementioned BLISTERING FUCKING COLD), and I don't even know if it's legal for people to be drinking out there anyway; I assumed it was intended for cigarette smoking, but I digress... Anyway, the dude's beady little eyes pierced through the window and his apparently desperate need to be a dick became activated (by me standing too close to the plastic couch) so he FLIES through the door to admonish me and kick me off the sidewalk (...to more sidewalk a foot away) and I'm like dude, WTF, I'm just sending a text, and there's NOBODY out here, plus I'm NOT underage and I've been here many times?! BUT He is UNRELENTING in his DICKHEADEDNESS and demands that I move back (like literally a foot) out of this supposed (ghost town) bar area and into the ARTIC TUNDRA WIND TUNNEL OF DEATH that surrounded it. FUCK THAT GUY. ugh now I'm going to be late to work because of writing this review but it was TOTALLY WORTH IT. One customer down, Macri Park! HATED IT!!! Anyone in New York that cares about workers rights or job security should never support this bar or any of the other bars under its umbrella. FYI -- the gay community didn't ask for this ally-friendly space to be turned into a gay bar. What you did was remove a neutral safe space and turned it into a hostile environment by terminating the straight ally people who worked there, who have historically supported gay, lesbian, trans, and queer customers for years before said re-branding. Deleting mentions of this on social media and blocking people from posting to your Facebook page because you couldn't articulate a logical response isn't helping your image either. I refuse to support a business that endorses the mistreatment of its staff in such a flippant manner. **Metropolitan Bar, Alligator Lounge, Lulus, Macri Park** which other bars am I forgetting to include that I will no longer patron or sponsor the events of? read more

One of the best things about this bar was that it wasn't trying to be anything it wasn't. There was no gimmick. There was always an eclectic group of people there. And from what I could tell a lot of regulars. Now they want to call it a "gay bar"? From what I could tell it was already gay friendly. Are they trying to exclude people? It's Williamsburg. You might as well open up a "hipster bar". Why the labels? Let's try and be more inventive. There is no way I would ever support a place that is just trying to cash in on the gay community or any sexual orientation, religion or creed for that matter. That's called exploitation. It's been a year but worth mentioning .I' ve never felt so unwelcomed in a bar. I opened my tab at the front bar and made my way to the outdoor area and enjoyed nice conversation on the patio with European visitors .After ,I made my way back to the front bar As I joked light heartedly with a bar patron ( maybe the barman's boyfriend?) and ordered a 2nd drink I was asked to leave and promptly did . Horrible experience. First off the bar tender was straight and high on drugs! Secondly, I ordered a happy hour well drink (which was $5) but she insisted on charging me $9 as she quoted a $12 minimum per person that made no sense! Completely illegal. A scam. I want to press charges and get the waitress fired as the whole experience was beyond horrific and illegal. Do not go! Very upsetting and stressful. read more

Came to Macri the other night between our stops to The Bedford. The music was pretty decent and good & I liked the couch setups in front but there's just something missing to make it memorable and I can't put my finger on it. Don't go here if you are straight, bartenders will act like they are doing your a favor by pouring you a beer. Beer lines tasting like they haven't been cleaned in months. Bar smells like they haven't kept up with cleaning it properly over the years. Prices are good though. read more
