Trick or treating for the kids was a highlight for us as the little ones made it special. Dogs are welcome and even have their own beach. Seasonal sites as well as cabins and tent sites all not too far from the beach.

My boyfriend and I reserved a tent site down in the back of the campground for a weekend. There are…read moreonly 6 tent sites, the remainder of the campground is for RVs. They definitely cater to RVs here, we were not treated well from the second we arrived. The person checking us in, I'm assuming is part owner, yelled at us for going through the gate too quickly. When I arrived at the gate, there was a sign that said to call a number so that they could let you in so I did and on the call I told her that there was someone behind me and that there were two cars, but you could tell that she was obviously distracted because she said OK come through and so I waved my boyfriend through, and then the gate crashed down on his car. He was able to get out of it very quickly, and there was no damage to the gate. But when we walked in, immediately the reception was poor because she was mad that we had two cars go through the gate instead of one. I said "you should have a sign." She says "there is one." After the fact we took a look at this "sign." There is a very small microscopic sign on 8x10 paper with a ton of really small writing and not very clear at all that it should be one car at a time. I would recommend that they have one specific sign that very clearly states "one car at a time" in extremely large font with nothing else on it, because clearly it was not obvious to us, or others for that matter. She went on to tell us that it's happened several times and that's how they broke their last gate, etc. etc. Well, I would think that maybe you would learn your lesson? make it more obvious that it's one car at a time? Pay attention when the person on the other line says there are two cars and maybe specify that one car should go through at a time? We had never been to this campground before, so we were very displeased from the start just based on that reception. Saturday went pretty well initially, we were the only ones down by the water aside from one other couple who was extremely nice and quiet. However, halfway through the day, as we were trying to enjoy peace and quiet, we heard the noises of construction for the remainder of the day as they were taking down the docks at the end of the boat launch, down a dirt road that goes right through the tent campsites. This was not told to us in advance, we had no idea this was going to happen. And when we stayed here, it was the first weekend of October. There was no sign, no warning that said that they were going to be doing this. all we heard all day was construction noise. And even better, they used the tent campsite right next to ours to load all of the pieces so we literally heard construction noises for the entire time we were camping. We thought maybe we could get away with a nice morning breakfast without construction noise on Sunday, but we were incorrect as they continued to do this Sunday morning as well. Why wouldn't they wait until people check out at the end of the weekend when people check out to do something like this? It's not even like it was the last weekend of the season or anything. We were extremely disappointed given how much money we spent on the site. The only positive is that they have water at every site and the pond is absolutely beautiful. There is a bald eagle nest and we saw the bald eagle when we were there. you can launch your kayaks or canoes from the campground, and there are nice trails around the pond as well. the only positives of the entire experience. We will never stay here again.

Overall takeaway: Tripp Lake Camp is a lovely and sweet place, with long-standing traditions, and filled with bright-eyed and confident girls having fun. There was a lot of positive energy, and purposeful intent. My wife and I are glad that we took the time to drive up to Maine, and grateful that our daughter had this positive experience/introduction to overnight camp. Leslie, Janet and Stacy were all incredibly warm and welcoming, and our daughter said that the counselors and other girls she met made her feel safe and at home. She also had a lot of fun, made a few friends, and was excited that she was able to participate in some of the Tripp Lake camp traditions (including lots of singing, and a play put on by some of the other campers). After picking her up Sunday morning, our daughter told us that she definitely wants to go to Tripp Lake for the full summer next year. We took her to visit a few other girls camps in Maine after finishing Rookie Weekend, and all were quite nice. We decided to stop by Tripp Lake again before driving home, and were fortunate to come during "sing song" practice, and to see a camp meal where the girls were all singing. We got a good sense of the camp spirit. Thank you again to Tripp Lake for giving our daughter such a wonderful first overnight camp experience.

They have one tent site which has a wooden platform for your tent. There is a water faucet and electric there if you need it. Camp staff were incredibly responsive and friendly. All the sites are in wooded areas and felt private enough--not as private as you get at state parks but nothing like a parking lot. Very friendly place with a lot of seasonals. Showers were cleaner than I expected. Nice playground for kids. There's not a lot to do in the Turner area but if you like to camp out and chill, give this place a try. Only negative is that they allow gas golf carts, which are loud, but we didn't have any problems with the noise at night which is when it matters.

My daughter went there knowing nobody and has come away with so many dear friends. There are many camps in Maine that attract all strata of NYC's upper income folks. What I have found is that Kohut seems to attract very kind young girls and boys. Not a lot of mean coolsters here. Highly recommend this camp!

First introduced to the camp via neighbors back in the late 90's I was always curious about this place that local Mainers excitedly went away to for a month. When we moved from Maine to New York we wanted our two youngest to have an opportunity to explore the out of doors that their older siblings had growing up in Maine. We enrolled them in kohut and for the following 8 years watched as each summer they grew, tried new things, unplugged and fell in love with their kohut family. There are fewer more satisfying feelings of comfort with a decision, than when you drop your child off at camp and they bolt away, running into the arms of favorite counselors and friends from previous seasons. I have the pleasure of saying that one of my kids actually was a counselor for a summer, while his two siblings attended Kohut, experiencing Kohut from the "the other side". One of my favorite parts of Kohut is that kids have an opportunity to try things that maybe they wouldn't dare attempt in their everyday lives. My son developed an interest and talent for fencing, and became interested in the guitar, both while at Kohut. He has taken these experiences to higher levels, but gained that initial confidence while at camp. I'll never forget those first two summers, picking up the kids, and having them regale us with stories and songs about their favorite moments. This past summer was our last at Kohut, and I found myself tearing up as I picked up my now nearly six foot tall son, who remained in my eyes that 7 year old, in his kohut shirt standing beneath the pines. I would highly recommend Kamp Kohut to anyone considering a summer camp.

Our daughter went to Laurel South this year for her first sleep away camp experience. She was…read morenaturally nervous about the experience but the staff and atmosphere there just made it so easy for her to ease into the experience. The energy is infectious and they do a really good of communicating with parents. Bottom line: You get what you pay for and we got a lot of value for our money here. We feel extremely lucky to have the ability to send our daughter here. I know it's not for everyone as camp is expensive but they are providing 24/7 care, meals and extras. Camp Laurel South is the most outstanding 4-week traditional sleep-away camp. Our oldest just aged…read moreout after attending for 7 consecutive summers. The group of friends he made over the years has already had 2 mini-reunions since returning home just 2 months ago. He has made friends for life from around the world. Our youngest is already counting the days left before next summer, which will be his 5th consecutive summer. The camp itself is spectacular. It's on a picturesque lake. The choices for activities are endless and include: sailing, water skiing, kayaking, archery, rocket making, gymnastics, cooking, drawing, swimming, fishing, tennis, soccer, baseball, and so many more. The grounds are beautifully maintained. Roger and Dagni take care of each child as though s/he was one of their own. Because the camp has such a stellar reputation, Roger and Dagni have their pick of counselors to hire. The counselors are excellent with kids, have extensive knowledge and experience with their skills, and come from all over the globe. Many work as coaches at schools during the school year. Our kids rave about the food and constantly tell us that we need to get the recipes from camp. There are chaperoned flights from many major US cities making travel to/from camp worry-free for parents. We also love that the camp offers 2 independent, 4-week sessions. The campers start and end each session with the same group of kids. The consistency of having the same kids at camp from start to finish has allowed our kids to form strong friendships and really feel part of the Laurel South family. If only adults could be campers!

There's a dock with a water wheelchair for those that might need it. Very inclusive. Lifeguards are attentive. You can rent kayaks, tandems, peddle boats and paddle boards to explore the pond. The facilities are large and clean. There's usually a food truck. With ample parking, ease of access, this beach is a winner. The water is warm, and CLEAN. Pack for the day, and stay until sunset. You'll LOVE it.
