The place has character and they hand out nuts for you to snack on at times. It has its following and locals that are older like their seats by the door and window so they can see everything and report it. Many of them are still living their past glories and times long since gone. They will try and suck you in to Tell You whats what. LOL There is no rule that you have to engage or listen to them. The younger people come through like a storm and provide that local dive aspect that can be exciting when the liquor flows and tempers flare. There are times that it will be all pickup trucks in front, go in and enjoy the who has the biggest dic show! Bring your black jack or stun gun though.

I passed on the salad but asked for a Smith & Currans to drink, which historically most bars don't have a clue. That too was made to perfection and served in a generous glass. Got out for $42 and ample left overs. Why this place isn't on the chamber of commerce as a go to is beyond me. For now...it's my secret.

There was a decent beer list - nothing that I really like, but that's just me being picky it was a decent selection. We tried a couple of appetizers and they were just not good. Mac and cheese balls and something else that I have already forgotten, but I know our group of four left food on the table and we came in hungry. It's a very small space, and on our trip there was a pretty loud group at the bar. That's normally to be expected in a bar, but in this space we were able to hear every word of their conversation which is just weird. Funny, part of the reason the other bar owner recommended this place is because of the 'cute outdoor seating area'. Take a look at the picture. If you are driving through Aberdeen to the beach, I'd have to suggest you keep going.

Discover is an accepted form of payment. Charlie's is the only bar in Montesano. The building is old so it was chilly inside during our visit. If you are somebody who chills easily, bring a sweatshirt or light jacket inside with you. Happy Hour is offered Monday-Friday from 4pm-6pm. Well drink specials are offered Sunday-Thursday from 6pm-close. Charlie's offers a full bar and draft beers. Free Wi-Fi is available. Charlie's does not have a kitchen. Food items are microwaved. Remember, this is a dive bar. We all use microwaves at home from time-to-time. I'm good with microwaved food and an ice-cold beer. Charlie's offers many different forms of entertainment during ones visit. Pull tabs, darts, digital jukebox, beer pong, shuffleboard and a couple pool tables. During our visit, my wife and I played a few rounds of darts 501. If I recall correctly, each game was $0.75 (wife paid). While playing darts we slurped on a couple ice-cold Manny's for $5 each. We each took turns ($10 worth) choosing the next song to blast from the jukebox. We had an absolute blast. Our server was downright cool. She was friendly, laid-back, helpful and willing to share her knowledge of the surrounding area and Long Beach area with us. Thank you Charlie's for being one of our highlights during our road-trip. When the menu says vegetables your only thought is gray and having spent hours in the steam table. NOT so at the Port Hole!! Steak was perfect amiunt of crispy fried goodness. You will get good drinks for a good price (probably the cheapest in Westport, but I don't necessarily pay very close attention). Bartenders are awesome. We have only eaten breakfast food, but it's good and well portioned just like you would expect. And yes, there's a Touch Tunes!

We sat with Mark for hours chatting about life, the bar business, cooking, marriage, kids and everything else. Mark has owned the bar for 10 years and told us his story of buying it and caring for it. Mark is a fisherman in Alaska, so if you get the fish, know that he has prioritized the best catch for your fish and chips. Get the cod two ways! They make it fried with a Mack and Jacks beer batter as well as grilled with an herb butter. Himself the Husband and I had it both ways - both divine. The best fish and chips (hand cut potatoes, important to an Irish girl like me) we have ever had. If you are lucky enough to spend time with Mark or anyone at Knotty Pine, you are lucky enough.
