I went there to get a backup of my Macbook Pro 2021 model which was malfunctioning. I had to purchase the spare parts and deliver it to the guy who was fixing it myself, which I felt like, was weird. I met the guy a bunch of times during the course of 6 weeks, he was either super polite or super annoyed (probably because I was rushing him to do it faster), which was also weird. My issue was not resolved and I ended up buying $200 worth of spare parts that I could not return. I would not recommend this place. read more

This is my second time in the last few years to need a fix to my Macbook Pro. The first time I got my battery replaced and the service was quick and included an internal cleaning. 2 years go by and on Wednesday my laptop was having trouble booting up, Bill had me drop it off that afternoon. It is 8 years old and I was afraid i would be investing some money this weekend, but Bill got it back in top shape very quickly. He had to upgrade the software and found a virus. While trying to replace a defective optical drive on my 2009 iMac, I accidentally broke the LCD video port on the logic board. To repair it, it would need to be very carefully soldered back in place, which is beyond my skill level. Every other mac repair place I called either didn't seem to understand my problem, or said they just don't do that kind of work, or said they would charge $300-$500 for the job (and at that price, I might as well just replace the whole computer). Then I called Mactamers. When I described the problem over the phone, he knew right away exactly what I was talking about. One of the first things he said was that due to the very tricky nature of this repair, he could only give me a 50% chance that it would be successful. If it was successful, he'd only charge me $75.00. Otherwise, it was just a $40.00 diagnostic fee. In the end, he wasn't able to fix it, but I'm still rating him 5 stars. Why? Well, first of all, he kept me updated on the situation and the ways he was trying to repair it, spending many hours on my computer, and he still didn't charge any more than the diagnostic fee. Secondly, after I picked up the computer and told him I would have to just replace the logic board, he gave me a vertical sync cable (mine had been broken for a while) and didn't charge me for it. Third, even after he was done with the computer, he was happy to help me out with some questions I had regarding RAM upgrades and a few other tech questions. And finally, he was just a friendly and courteous guy. Next time I run into an issue on my mac that I can't fix myself, this is where I'll be taking it. The proprietor's uncanny skill for resurrecting dying MacBooks, along with my tendency to bump a half-full water glass onto my latest refurbished machine, keeps me coming back to this place. William has salvaged my MacBooks and resurrected my files several times. He responds to a call or text quickly, even on weekends and off hours and it's nice having a captive repairman on site, as he lives above the shop. He will give you an honest assessment, steer you to online places to buy reliable parts when needed (instead of gouging you for same) and turns around the machines quickly for a fair price. Each time, he went above and beyond for me and the amount I was charged was so reasonable, I paid him more than he asked, just because it seemed fair. My 2017 13" MacBook Pro needed a replacement top case, keyboard, and battery. Bill from MacTamers went above and beyond in performing the repair. He helped me pick out the correct parts to purchase online, gave me an accurate quote, answered my (many) questions and concerns, made further repairs to a part that was causing my computer to make a clicking noise when opening and closing, and he got my machine back to me working like new! Bill is awesome! I spilled tea on my laptop during the POLER VORTEX and he was the only one open in the area. He said he'd let me know if my computer was worth fixing (it was already 4+ years old) but that he could recover my hard drive. I was skeptical, but he reminded of a guy that was like, your dad's buddy... and you would trust a friend of your dad's, wouldn't you? The next morning I picked up my recovered my hard drive and he told me straight up that my computer was totally done, in which I appreciated his honesty and lack of bullshit. Bill did a great job! My 5 year old MacBook was running slow and I was in need of updating my operating system. He said that I would need to update my RAM. He sent me to go pick up the RAM needed and directed me to where to go. After I gave him the RAM (and the battery, I needed a new battery as well) it didn't take him long to repair it, clean it, and update the system. He works fast and efficiently. Within the same day I got to pick up my computer! He charged a reasonable amount for the work, $150 and a $15 dollar deposit. This does not include the cost of the RAM or the battery. But it was much cheaper than a new computer. I would highly suggest going to him for all of your Mac needs. A local guy with a local business who is trying to make ends meet! A good, reasonably priced mac repair resource. My story: I have an old iMac G5 - one of the first of it's model to be released back in 2004. I realize that a 6 year old computer is getting towards the end of it's useful life, but I didn't want to buy a new one just yet when my LCD screen went blank. I'm a pretty handy guy, and fairly tech savvy. I tried to fix it myself but to no avail. After doing some research online of various repair places I found MacTamers to be the most reasonably priced for the initial evaluation. So I took my Mac there and after a couple days Bill (the owner) confirmed for me that it probably wasn't the LCD itself but something else that is probably too expensive to repair. He did however give me a suggestion which I am following. He confirmed that the computer itself is still working, so I bought a cheap LCD screen from a big box store and that'll due for a while. So thanks to MacTamers for the good idea. The "office" is located in an art studio building, and Bill runs the shop out of his studio. If you've got a Mac and you're looking for some reasonably priced IT support then give Bill a try. It's not a fancy computer repair shop with lots of technology on display. He doesn't have lots of fancy technological eye candy, but I think he can get the job done and probably a bit less than most. read more

Called because the battery in Mac was not charging. I had not used the mac in a while, and I was concerned it was a board issue. After asking a few questions, they suggested I try a new battery before looking for a board repair. While they said they do not do board repair they gave me a referral anyways. Long story short I bought and replaced the battery myself, but these guys were very helpful and I appreciated the straight forward help with no sales pressure. You know the miserable feeling when you just don't know what's up with yer computer? The panic and horror of the questions. What to do? What to do? Well I took my 24" Imac to the apple store where they diagnosed it. Faulty video card. Well that was a relief. They said I should have my computer in the next couple days. The next day I got a phone call from Apple saying that they wouldn't service it due to smoke damage. You've got to be kidding me. Well chances are it was somewhere in the contract that I probably agreed on. D'oh! Well luckily for me a friend had access to the part and sent it to me. I called Bill and he said it would be no problem smoke damage and all. I dropped it off and he had it ready the next day. If you read other reviews of computer repair people, most of them are bad. I've taken three different computers to him over the past 3 years, and he has been reasonable, professional, and very fast. Bill is definitely a weirdo, but in a good way. He is a painter, he has a Dr. Who phone booth he made, and I think he builds robots? He fixed my iMac in 4 hours today. I'm sure the apple store would have charged me literally 6 times more, and taken a week to do it. It definitely feels like an informally run business, and you might feel hesitant to leave your $2000 machine with him, but that's what these reviews are for. I won't go to anyone else as long as Bill is around. He is the very definition of what we talk about when we say "small business." The economy needs more people like Bill. Bill has skills! About 2 days ago my IMac had a meltdown. I was messing around with the security settings, trying to block this bogus program, but it just got worse and my Mac would not start normally. I got some "no entry" signal and from there, i panic . Luckily I stumbled on MacTamers and Bill was able to accommodate my urgent request. He not only got my Mac running back to normal, but he went above and beyond to back up my system with Time Machine and external drive. If you are looking for a Mac tech specialist and on a budget, go to him. Even if you're not on a budget, this guy is GOOD. It's a hole in the wall kind of business, but don't be quick to judge. If your Mac computer needs to be fixed, do not come here! If they are able to fix your product, great but if something goes wrong they will not take any accountability and you are out of luck. I brought my product to fix a USB port due to liquid damage from 2 months ago. The computer was working just fine minus one of the USB ports and the camera. No additional problems. I ordered the port they suggested, brought it to them and was told it would be fixed 1-2 days. On day 3, I had to text and follow up for a status. I was told they were working on it that day, no apologies for the late work. Day 4 no call or text. Day 5, I had to call to check on the status. I have record on all this by the way. I was told they fixed the port but all of a sudden the tracking was not working and recommended I take it Lapin to check the logic board. Then when waited till I picked it up and told that all of a sudden there is a reboot issue. To shorten up this post, it was revealed to me after multiple conversations that they understood the risk of working on this computer but wasnt communicated to me before they started working on the computer. Instead they worked it and gave it back to me not working at all. Our last conversation (I was told to call them back to let know what Lapin said), after I explained the timeline, my unsatisfaction with their services, and trying exhaust all means to fix the situation, no apologies were given and they hang up. Again, if they are able to fix your computer, good for you. In cases where they can't, you will end up in situations like myself and be out of luck and out of a computer. read more

Yelp didn't steer me wrong. Bill replaced the glass on my Macbook pro, and did it for a reasonable price - certainly better than the Apple store which will only replace the top lid for $400 or 500, regardless of the condition of the LCD. I did have an initial pang of regret when I didn't hear from him later in the day, and couldn't get a hold of him the next morning initially - I thought "great, I just left my laptop with this guy, only got a handwritten receipt, and now I can't get a hold of him!!" But no worries, seems like he keeps odd hours, depending on what he's working on, and so might not always be available in the morning. Would definitely use him again! read more

My MacBook's hard drive had been giving me signs it was about to crash (clicking sounds when turning on). I put it off and was able to work around it until realized it was going to crash on me one day. I was hesitant to bring it to the "genius" at Apple because would cost a lot, and take them even longer to replace it. I found MacTamers on Yelp, and called Phil and he asked what was wrong, I told him, and he told me to go to MicroCenter and pickup any SATA drive, and bring it and by and he'd have it all done next day. True to his word, I dropped it off on Saturday evening and picked it up first thing Sunday morning without losing any data....and got 500+ more in GB space for a fraction of what a new Apple hard-drive costs. He is the true Genius - not those kids at Apple where you have to wait and wait for one to become available, then they just write up an order to send it out for repairs. read more

He did a great job. My Mac went dead and now it runs better and faster than it did before. Needed a new hard drive. My only complaint was that he wanted to get it done so fast that it was alot of pressure for me to get back there with a new hard drive and then alot of pressure to come pick it up then next morning. Fantastic. I'm a freelance copy editor and work from home on my only computer, a MacBook I bought in 2008, and one day it crashed and then got stuck on the start-up screen. I feared for the absolute worst and had resigned myself to having to replace it; honestly, I only took it in to see if I could get any of my data off of it. The hard drive was indeed shot, but Bill managed to recover all the data. He told me I needed a new hard drive and exactly which to get and where I could buy it. I bought the hard drive and brought it in; he installed it, cleaned the fan, and updated the OSX--all by the end of day! I spilled some beer on my MacBook (the maple bacon kind. yum.. but crap) and needed a new top case for my 2011 MacBook Pro.
