I am kind of surprised to see the poor reviews because actually I have been shopping there for over 40 years and enjoy the selection and the customer service everyone's so friendly specifically today I went with a rather complicated transaction they were super busy and I was kind of a jerk and try to do it today. I'm not gonna lie, but it needed to happen. I got up to the desk where I needed to get the help and I was greeted very cheerfully this is end of day by the way by a clerk named Breezy I explained to her what I was trying to do and the fact that the customer service people had irritated me over the phone and that I felt that I needed to come to the store to get it straightened out and needed help. she very kindly listened. Explained how we were going to make it happen for me and apologize for the poor phone customer service. I was in there now that they're in just a few minutes and could not help but remarked to her how much I appreciate her sunny, friendly demeanor, especially today the last weekend for Christmas at 5 o'clock in the evening I knew what kind of day she must've been having and just wanted her to know how much I appreciate her Excellent excellent service and amazing attitude. I have been a Macys customer for over 25 years and I am appalled by their warranty service! You call to get an exchange going to be answered by someone in the Philippines and they state they will send you an email which never comes regardless if you check junk or spam. I'm fed up!!! Buyer beware deal directly with the manufacturer because even if your item is less than a year old Macys (Asurion) customer service folks are crap! Never return email or get the job done!!! I know they hire a bunch of new people for holiday time, but between the lack of knowledge of people on the floor, lack of knowledge on how to run the register and general customer service this shopping trip was a nightmare! First, I need direction to the plus size section, the employee had no clue where it was. Once I finally found it, I selected my item and went to the nearest register it was backed up. The manager that was supposedly trying to help was raising their voice and getting quite loud with the employee as well as a customer. I didn't catch the name, but it held up the line and made the wait even longer. When I went into the changing room to try it on, the changing rooms are filthy and disgusting! This store has fallen apart over the years, we find the occasional special event dress or shoes here but their selection isn't the best, they don't seem to really carry the clothes that young people are wearing as they dont seem to be keeping up with the tendy fashions, the store is usually a little more on the messy side, and they don't have many sales as they did in the past. read more

What happened to this place? It used to be such a nice shopping experience, and with the addition of some higher end brands, I was hopeful that it would continue to improve. Instead it has declined significantly. First of all, the idiocy of having only ONE open dressing room during a pandemic is nonsensical. Having everyone convene into one space and in close proximity to one another is counterproductive, and poor business practice. I have more than once just left the store because the line for the dressing room was so long. It's annoying and ridiculous. Open the other rooms so we're not all stuffed into one small area with poor ventilation. Speaking of ventilation, why is it always so freaking hot in there?! I was standing in one of their typically long checkout lines and everyone was fanning themselves because it was so stuffy in there. Finally, clean up the place. There is no excuse for having all those clothes on the floor, messy displays, and dusty/cluttered service desks. Sadly, this is the only nice department store in the Modesto area; it would be nice if management at least tried to make it look and feel that way. read more

A bright spot in this mall. Store is kept clean. A very nice young woman voluntarily helped me in lingerie when I was looking confused in front of bras. It's really pleasant to browse when the store's not jammed, the merchandising is more glamorous than suburban stores used to get, and there's a lot of Backstage discount stuff on the first floor. This is the first time I've felt that Traditional Department Store Glamour since the flagship Lord & Taylor in Manhattan closed (this Macy's isn't that high-end, obvs). Really good shopping experience, would make a habit of it. read more

I placed a order for two 50 dollar dresses for my kids. And they were supposed to be worn Christmas morning while they open gifts. Well one dress came in before Christmas and the other came in this morning. And they have have the alarms still intact. So annoying! I have bad asthma and I am avoiding the crowds. Why do the ladies that work at the makeup counters always think they're far superior than others? We went to the MAC counter because my mom wanted to get a regular bottle of a sample she used from the downstairs MAC. The ladies working kept asking my mom all these questions about her little sample she had. I thought, why don't you guys just help her color match or something rather than sending her with something she prolly doesn't need?? Regardless there was barely any convo, just rude and kept talking to eachother rather than the customer. Macys isn't that high end department store anymore, def gone down hill. The shoe department was a mess, poor employees just calling for backup every 5 min with no relief... hope they get some help read more

So I actually didn't buy anything from this macys, because I was too distracted staring at this cabling job. Macys is a multi billion dollar retailer, and THIS is what the store looks like? I'm sure that corporate could afford to have a licensed technician to come out and run cabling rather than whatever 4 year old child climber a ladder and did this job. Why is cabling effecting me not supporting this business? Simple answer, this shows they don't mind cutting corners. If they cut corners on building maintenance and things involving electricity, I'm sure they're cutting corners on everything from small day to day tasks (ie. cleaning) to big picture things (ie. checking if card readers have been tampered with) Would never trust a business that looks like this. Used to like Macys, ordered sheets online, hard to find pick up desk, waited forever in line, with 6 other people. Three windows, only one open. Told me to go to other Macys, walked all over, about 1000', then was told to go downstairs. Walked all over again. Finally got my sheets. Walked outside, walked another 1000' to my car. All this to save $10 shipping on $25 sheets. Never again. Can't Macys just ship to me for free like AMAZON!, No wonder Macys is floundering while Amazon thrives. Not rocket science. read more

I wasn't expecting a squeaky clean store but what i experienced in the ONLY fitting room they had open in the women's and children's store is unacceptable. The vent in the ceiling was caked in dust, the doors were also caked, you can see the dust on the floor, walls edges. I was so grossed out. Macy's you can do better. Management needs replacing ASAP! This store needs to clean up its act. Especially in the women's department. This used to be a very nice high end store. I spent years giving them major money but now it's a pig sty. Absolutely filthy. Clothes unorganized and on the floor. The women's dressing rooms were so bad that I didn't take my shoes off. Disgusting. What? Macys can't afford janitorial services? Penny's was nice and clean. I get the feeling that this store will soon be out of business in Modesto. I have gone to Macys in Stockton and it's in way better shape. It's out of the way though since I live in Oakdale. I plan on complaining to corporate but they must know by now so I guess Macys will soon be gone from Modesto. Wouldn't it be wonderful if Dillard's came in and cleaned house and sent these employees to Walmart where thy would fit in better. read more

Macy's always has the most amazing sales. My son's are hooked on the coach Cologne set. I have to admit it smells divine. The price is always reasonable as well. They also carry one of my favorite perfumes, Versace Crystal Noir. I collect the Christmas dish-ware each year, they are always so different but equally as beautiful. read more

A review for Macy's? Macy's, the conglomerate? There are so many departments, & so many employees. Some good...others not so good. Such is life. I do usually have a problem finding an employee in any given department. Except shoes. The shoe department is usually properly stocked w staff; albeit staff that are busy & you'll have to wait for assistance, but staffed nonetheless. And there can be a lot of disarray about. Like now, with the sale going on in the misses department, next to I.N.C. It almost felt like I was at an end-of-season sale at Forever 21. Actually, while I was in the I.N.C. department, I was approached & asked if I was doing ok by a very nice sales associate. Props. But I really want to give a shout out to Anita at the Chanel counter. Macy's is lucky to have her. She's knowledgeable, & sincere. She actually told me that I don't need an under eye primer! Sephora did not tell me that. Thanks a lot, Sephora. She's engaging, too. We talked about curry! And she's British, so she has that great British accent. Anita easily gets 5 stars. Macy's? 3 stars. read more

This review is for the men's store... specifically downstairs where household items are. My mother had a stroke a couple of years ago and she walks slowly and needs assistance, I take her to the mall from time to time because let's face it, there's really not much else to do in Modesto. Anyway, as we walk into Macy's, shortly after we are surrounded by store security people pretending to be shopping. It's very rude to assume that handicapped people who walk slowly have an agenda to steal something. I typically have only a small purse with me and basically I cant' fit anything in it, even if I wanted to steal something. I often wonder about these mental midgets working security for these stores, how in the world would a slow handicapped person steal things??? Anyway, they do this to us every single time we walk into that store. My mother and I feel very unwelcome there, and what they are doing to us is straight up harassment. They need to stop harassing handicap people and treating them like criminals. I know they are the store's security because I used to work for Macy's, plus I'm not ignorant of my surrounding. Anyway, we will have to stop going into that store because we don't feel welcome nor wanted there. I made a mistake of buying a couple of things, but never again. I think I'll do my shopping when we visit the Stanford mall instead. read more

Macy's Furniture Warranty was useless. I'm not the type that buys a warranty and this is just proof of what I always thought. I bought a couch for more than $4500 and was told the warranty would cover pet damage. Great! I have two cats so I thought this would be perfect protection if they scratched it. Well, the cats did scratch the couch up. When I tried to get the scratches repaired the warranty claim was denied because the cats had scratched it in more than 3 places. Gotta love that fine print! Giving it 2 stars because the couch was nice but I'm just so annoyed I got suckered for $500 for a warranty that didn't help when I actually needed it. read more

But the other day I was shopping for sandals and they only had one person in shoes and they were really busy but the young lady working in the shoe department handled the busy rush so well an with such great customer service and a cool head .. employees like that is what makes me a life long customer! read more

This macys location was good not too long ago, but now is not. Manager was having an argument with a customer. They both were screaming by the time I noticed this was happening a tall male approached my husband and out of nowhere started being very aggressive. He was with a lady complaining with the manager, it turn out was her son. So my husband try to calm things down wasn't working cuz Macys manager was screaming to this group of people. My husband then ask the manager to call security he refused. We asked for security because it was getting out of hand and I had 2 kids with me Don't ever go to this location unless you bring security it's not safe at all and management won't provide a safe place to shop. When ask for name to make the complaint the manager also refused to give name which later another employee provided. Alex cheim is a horrible manager and doesn't know how to deal with difficult guests and he made this experience really bad for me as a bystander and paying customer. read more

Women's Shoe Department only I went two weeks before my wedding (5/18/19) to purchase my wedding shoes. If I am correct with their names, Holly & Lucia, were great. Both ladies assisted me with my shoe purchase. They went above and beyond helping me find shoes that fit my criteria. I needed wedge shoes that were: shiny, comfortable for wide feet, and extremely high. They were able to find some that were on sale - so yay!! Thank you guys for the great service. Apparently no one wanted to do my face at Macy's. Walked around the cosmetics deep inside SEVERAL TIMES. And no one batted an eye because they were socializing with each other. Wow this time I wanted to be pampered just a tiny bit. Yes you heard me. I wanted someone to do my face. It's to bad that a busy Mum like myself. Was able to get some alone free time to do something and never got serviced. Maybe country living you don't get nice things here. When I'm in a city at another Macy's location I get serviced. I was so very disappointed with the overall costumer service on both the main store and the home store. It has been over a year from my last visit and after this it will be longer !!!!!!!!!!! #1 I purchased 2 " expensive bras to discover when I got home ( one your drive) that both bras STILL had the sensors. #2 I purchased towels from the Hotel collection and to my surprise I was in a very long line witch was in the housewares since no cashiers were open in bedding and towels. #3 The cashier was very inexperienced and she was left to figure out sales and returns .
