My, everyone seems so critical of this store. Relax, people. You don't know how good it is to have a good shopping mall nearby. I have always found service at Macy's to be excellent. If I don't find my selection, they are happy to look for it elsewhere. I always shop at Macy's first. I LIKE looking at items before I buy, and I LIKE interacting with people. It's part of the joy of shopping. This is one of the few Macy's left in our area, and I shop here to support brick and mortar stores. This store is clean, has maybe seen a few years, but shop here, because you are doing nothing but supporting billionaires by ordering everything online. Learn to interact with people in person. This is your average macys that maybe had seen better days! This location is within the Washington square mall. This is your typical macys department store plus a macys backstage that has discounted items for sale. This may be due to the after holiday season busy time but most of their items were disorganized and crammed into every space possible. I would say wait for sales as they happen often and you can usually get a decent price. I got a $69 tie for $14 on clearance. I was bra shopping on Saturday. Nobody asked if I needed any help. I finally asked if they still had customer service and was told. We do not make commission and we do not have to wait on people. There were 3 women standing at the register talking. Not helping anyone and no one at the register they needed to help I seldom shop at Macy's this just proved again why. Let me start by saying I don't or ever have I worked there and have purchased nothing, just use it as a way to get into the mall. The reason for this review is the condition. The north entrances are filthy. Both locations from the parking garage bottom or top level entrances have not been cleaned in a very long time. Do not buy anything from the perfume section of this store. After telling them several times what I was wanting to purchase they still gave me the wrong product. Partially my fault for not double checking before walking out of the store but you would think that they would give you the correct product after saying it several times. read more

First things first: I absolutely love the online shopping experience of Macy's. There is a bigger selection and I don't know about y'all, but shipping is always fast and free. Because I buy so much online, if I'm ordering certain items, such a pants, shoes, or cosmetics, I'll order a couple different sizes or colors to try on and will make the trip out to Washington Square to return the stuff that didn't work for me. It usually works out fine but on a couple of occasions they told me the window of time to make returns was closed and I couldn't return the items. For example, I bought a lipstick from the MAC counter on January 23rd, 2023. I returned 3 bags of shoes and clothing yesterday, April 22nd, 2023, along with 3 Urban Decay lipsticks. MAC wouldn't refund or exchange the lipstick I bought from them. When I bought it, (I still think the color is beautiful) they told me it wouldn't transfer and that it was especially long wearing. It came off on my Snow White winter parka. I always wait until I have a bunch of stuff to return before I'll make the journey from downtown out to Washington Square. They told me I waited too long, sorry, I'm stuck with that stupid lipstick. Nordstrom would never do that. Nordstrom has taken things back well beyond 3 months past my purchase date. In my opinion, Nordstrom has far superior customer service compared to Macy's. I always pay with my purchases with my platinum Macy's card so there is never an issue with did I actually buy the items. For as much money that I spend at Macy's, they should give me better customer service. I'm disappointed in the in person shopping experience because of their return policy and in addition, there are never enough employees working the registers and the wait time to actually make the return is dismal. This Macy's has the largest women's department of all the Portland area Macys so I come here when I need an outfit for a special occasion and want options. It takes a while to figure out the layout as the department is spread out over a large footprint. Some areas, like Inc and Michael Kors, have their own section; others are organized in a way that I can't figure out! The Last Chance section is huge and on days when I have lots of patience, I will go through the racks. It's always a great day when you score a pair of jeans, a jumpsuit or sweater for under $10. Tip: Macy's is always having sales, like every few days, so don't pay full price! I shop at Macy's frequently so I always get coupons and star rewards and use them on top of the sales. Tip #2: Often the online Prices are less than in the store. But since I need to try some things in, I go to the store and if I end up buying it, I show the customer service agent the online price and they honor it. They now have a Backstage area to which is like a Ross or Marshall's without as much inventory. It's worth a walk through as you never know what random item you may find like a 4-pack of white soup bowls for $9.99 or holiday pillows, kitchen gadgets, shoes, jackets and more. Sales and coupons don't apply to Backstage items. There is lots of parking with easy direct access to the store so you never have to enter the mall, which is a huge plus. I went there on Feb 15th to buy some men's pants. I found them but couldn't find a place to pay for them, Finally, I saw a clerk and asked if she was taking money. She looked at me with a a sneer, said, "No," and walked away. Finally, my wife and I found a register occupied by two clerks. One turned and without making eye contact took the pants and looked for a price. She was a transexual, which I didn't care about, but when she affected a female voice I couldn't understand her. I had to ask her to repeat nearly everything she said. And each time I did, she got more and more angry. At this point, my wife got angry and walked away. Terrible experience in the women's shoe department today. Was completely ignored by the two young girls working there, and it was empty. I finally walked up to them behind the counter and said "Hi Ladies!" and I was met with blank stares. So, oddly, I had to find the courage to ask them if they were available to help me. One of them, looked at me completely annoyed and mumbled "uh, yeah". I got flushed and embarrassed, so I told them never mind and put the shoes down. i applied for a merchandising position in home, i got hired as a merchandiser in men's dress shirts, furnishings, socks and underwear. not once on my resume was mentioned working in men's. on top of them disregarding what i applied for, they also assigned me to markdowns without letting me know (which i loved don't get me wrong) and transfers... which i CANNOT do, due to have a traumatic brain injury, POTS, and ruptured scoliosis and i DID wear a back brace on those transfer days so i did not faint due to the heavy work load i was told to do or id be told to quit and apply for a different position because i wasn't capable of the expectation of the position i was in.... i didn't apply for 3 departments nor men's nor 3 positions every single day. they threw me into it. another thing. i brought every doctors note that had my 8 different diagnoses physically in my hands to give to them during training and they wouldn't accept it and was told to bring it to the office on my first day. did that and asked for a stool, like a freaking stool... and to give me a short 5 minute break if i feel woozy and see dots thinking im gonna faint to give me time to recover SO i can go back to work. NOPE. i was told "doctors notes don't do anything for us until you contact HR and then we have to wait for the approval so if you're not able to perform on the position we gave you, it would be better for you to quit now before we have to let you go. i'm sorry... what did you just say to me?? i did not apply for men's or transfers in the back room that clear as day employees in the back watch me struggle, cry, be in so much pain that i'm given a stool by a COWORKER not a manager... i can't stand being talked down to like im 6 and being treated like im a fucking idiot. managment found it entertaining to watch their employees struggle. one manager in particular has a reputation in the store. EVERY associate has confirmed how horrible she is to approach i even was told that "if she doesn't talk, help, answer a question you have, you're in the clear and on her good side, if she does talk to you, prepare to get berated and she does not like you." when i got terminated yesterday june 11th 2025 it was due to my reliability and the fact i had " HORRIBLE attendance" that i was put on probation for.. yet i was never told i was on. the "7 and 7" rule and the percentage system wasn't mentioned to me until about a month in of working there. my total time i worked theee was 11 weeks, started on april 6th... i was told how unreliable and inefficient i was in my attendance as well as only working 25 shifts since then. with multiple absences and too many "lates" to keep on... i stayed professional and said nice working with you, walked out to all my friends who were coworkers i worked with everyday and not ONE person told me to not contact HR and file a claim. everyone was SHOCKED i was fired. and to be honest so was fucking i. so i took liberty into my own hands and thankfully was still logged into my day on my insight and verbatim copy and pasted my time card clock ins lunch and clock outs and my absences, as well as "lates" and actual lates. i did not work 25 shifts. i worked 40. i missed 3 days due to almost fainting on the floor cause i pushed myself too hard and had to call out the rest of the week. so i worked 37 shifts only having a total of 3 absences and what should be 4 lates.. is like 12-15 lates due to clocking in or out 2-4 minutes past their dumb 7 minute rule. so i got fired. i'm not even mad about it. pros i LOVED the job itself. had there of been no unnecessary drama and bullying and undermining in condescending tones to make you feel like shit by management in the background, otherwise i would've stayed due to the experiences i got to share and bond with customers not because i had to but because I WANTED TO. i do not care how many minutes after im supposed to clock out, because i am taking care of a CUSTOMER. management cares though and i got doc't for it each time. i have nothing good to say about any manager there except for jason and jenni. those were true equip leaders who CARED about their employees. as of now, i have 6 claims i am bringing to HR that i PRAY, get a serious review on and are taken care of. i am NOT the first employee who has dealt with this and i hope i am the last. read more

My mother made the mistake of sending an online payment to Macy's when she didn't have a balance as she had not made a purchase. We called Macy's and said you must have credited my account by mistake. Then we got her bank statement and she had made a payment to Macy's for the amount in question. We have been trying for over a month to get her money back and they keep saying we reversed the payment meaning they are keeping her money. This is theft! We are not ever going to use the Macy's card or ever make a purchase in this store. They have the worst customer service, you can't understand the people answering the phone. They are not helpful. We want our money back. We have sent a letter and enclosed a copy of the bank statement showing we made the payment online. This company is crooked and despicable!!!!!! read more

This review is for the Bobbi Brown counter in Macys. I asked the ladies working for help to color match foundation and Powder for me, as I really needed both these products as my old products were out and discontinued. While one woman (Doaa) was somewhat helpful, the other woman, Liz, who I guess was assisting the woman assisting me seemed annoyed. She was blunt and very rude and just acted like she had better places to be. She may have been the manager, which if true, would be shocking since she lacked people skills. Also, I was the only customer at Bobbi Brown, so I'm not sure why Liz was so put out by having to do some work. I really needed the products I asked for but I was so off-put by the rude attitude portrayed by Liz, that I decided to just buy at nordstroms or Sephora to not have to deal with them further. Liz, perhaps you should find another line of work where you don't have to interact with humans? Just a suggestion. Or maybe you need some Metamucil to help with that frigid, constipated demeanor. The whole team At Your Service including the beauty manager named Carley!!! didn't know how to solve the problem and made us wait 1.5 hours. They tried to fool us with all non sense facts and the more they talked the more stupid they became in that situation Until we asked for another supervisor. Mary stepped in and immediately knew where the problem was and refunded us the remaining balance. It's a waste of time to deal with employees at this store. If you're thinking about buying oriental rugs from Macys, our advice is don't. We bought two expensive rugs. We were charged for rugs we never ordered, and for ones we canceled because they weren't in stock. They did credit us eventually. Delivery woes. Worse was that we thought Macy's would take care of delivery, which was expensive. Boy were we mistaken. They contract with FedEx and then wash their hands of it entirely. They take zero responsibility for the delivery process. Here's what happened. First, they delivered a rug we hadn't ordered and which Macy's had no tracking number for. Second, they delivered a rug on the requested day and time, but they forced my 70 year-old husband to take 9x13" rug from the truck. The packing list said it was over 100 lbs although it probably wasn't. Still heavy, tho. Third, they delivered a rug to the wrong address on the wrong day and time. Fourth, we paid to change the delivery dates, times, and addresses. One was OK, the other was not. We've had super service when we've had furniture delivered. But not these rugs. read more

It's definitely hit or miss for finding good clothes that are reasonably priced - last time I went I found a ton of cute stuff at a great discount. Other times ain't a thing worth trying on. I waited 5 minutes behind a guy checking out only to have a 3rd worker come into the cashier desk, look at me and go "MISS, MISS! Rude & disorganized 'cause I was clearly standing in a line...behind another customer...for 5 minutes. That happened a few weeks ago and I'm still irritated by it - no need to yell people. Wow, so I honestly have not stepped into Macy's in a long time since I was horrified the last time. WOW...dropped by to try a sample of some new skin care by Lancome when their boot clearance caught my eye. Before I knew it I bought a pair of lace up Nine West shoes and a pair of Ralph Lauren booties for $57 total...no joke. Then I seriously found three sweaters (one was DKNY and one was Calvin Klein even) for $30 total. Just updating my review about my mattress warranty that is still not being covered nor discussed. As you can see contact by Macys has not been attempted after complaints on BBB, google reviews and yelp. The only thing that I am requesting is they cover the warranty that I paid for through worry no more program which is a Macys owned program. So they get one star for no follow up. Will check in again in two weeks and see this has been an ongoing issue since the beginning of the year. Also look up the worry, no more program reviews before shopping at Macy's. I have spent more than $4000 in mattresses and I paid for a warranty that is not being covered multiple visits to the store multiple visits to the website to fill out the warranty claim has led to nothing but a replacement mattress cover, but the damage is much deeper than that which is supposed to be covered according to the sales people, the management and the contract. deceptive advertising deceptive business. read more

All these big companies boast how convenient curbside pickup is. Curbside pickup is an absolute crap show for this store. I chose curbside pickup and I will never do that again. I WAITED 30-40 minutes and they never came. Having a one year old in the car didn't make the wait any better either. After waiting I finally just went inside and picked it up from the service counter in minutes. This was a complete mess of an experience. Now I know to never do curbside again. You should never have to wait that long to pickup one item, in middle of the day, on a weekday. read more

I cannot speak for the entire store, but I got fantastic service from 2 employees yesterday. To start, I had a gift certificate and wanted to buy Urban Decay's Naked 2 eye shadow pallet. When I couldn't find it, I asked a gal seated near the cosmetics, looking at her cell phone, if she worked there. She said "Yes, no, but I can help you"..and she did. She was clearly on a break or it was her day off - but she helped me anyway. She is Asian, has a blonde bob and looked 21-25 years old. I then wandered over to the Benefits counter to ask some questions about the Naked 2 eye shadows and a young man named Khan, got up off the floor (he was stocking cosmetics) and walked me back to the Urban Decay line and told me all about it and gave me a small sample of the eye shadow primer. What a lovely person he was! I avoid this mall because of bad experiences with "entitled" millennial's (I know, I am generalizing and they aren't all brats) but these 2 people seemed genuinely nice (esp Khan, who I spent more time with) and made my experience a very good one. read more

Ya know I typically like to shop Macy's... I love a deal. I went in to purchase for fiesta for a present, they have a Fantastic assortment. So I grabbed what I wanted and walked to the check out. There were people lined up on both sides and I settled in behind another fellow. We were waiting. The gal on the register was having an issue getting an item shipped. She called the manager 2 times. They explained, and left leaving the woman both times to muddle thru the transaction. The customer was tempted to just leave, but we assured her it was fine, relax. The gentleman in front of me gave up and left. I was joined by 3 more behind me in line. After waiting 20 minutes, I thought I was going to be helped, but nope. The clerk called a manager again because after all the issues she realized she had screwed up again. The customer had left. Instead of helping those of who were waiting patiently, the home good manager told us we were in the wrong line. Are you kidding me??? I stood in line witnessed the entire transaction and NOW I am in the wrong line?!?! I got hot. Walked away and then returned saying bullshit. I realize it's crazy. I realize it's the holiday season. But!!! SHAME on the Manager for not finishing the transaction for the first customer, using it as a teaching moment and then making sure that the clerk understood and return the line. At one point there were over 11 people waiting. So if you run into manager Jennifer in pots and pans, run. Dee and Nick at the perfume counter were both SUPER AWESOME! Best Customer service experience given as my daughter and I walked in. We came there to go to the 'brow experience'. Dee kindly directed us there and made sure we were going the right way. We got to the brow section and asked if the lady could tell us what is was about. She didn't do that but instantly said 'well you have to make an appointment'. We told her we wanted to know what they do there but still said we'd have to make an appointment- so I asked again what the service entailed and is there no appointments available at that moment as there was no one sitting in any chairs. She points the gentleman behind her and says He will do it. ( do what? )So my daughter asked, 'do you offer brow threading?', she replied with ' It's a brow wax service- finally we now know what the service was. My daughter then asked for pricing for their brow wax service and she tells us. My daughter thanks her and says 'ok, so if I decide to come back, I will definitely come back as I'm looking for brow threading ' we thanked her and as we are leaving- the look on her face ( even with her mask on ) wasnt a pleasant one to us; as if we wasted her time. We left, on our way out we pass the perfume counter and see Dee and Nick. The two conversated with us, even shared the new Jimmy Choo fragrance ' I wantChoo ' and we loved it! Nick was so kind that he even gave my daughter and I a sample to take home, while Dee was conversating with my daughter about what type of brow services she was in search of. They thanked us for coming in and told us to Have a great day. That interaction with them made us feel welcomed there even though we got a different vibe from the other lady. I saw a cute pair of sandals online so I called the store the last few hours of their Memorial Day Sale to see if they had them in stock. After I had called, the woman on the other end asked if she could please put me on a brief hold. After 5 minutes of holding, I put the phone on speaker and started to make dinner. After 15 more minutes on hold, we ate dinner. After 35 minutes on hold, we had finished dinner and cleaned all of the dinner dishes. Jokingly, I then told my hubby to keep the phone on "speaker" and then drove to the store with my son which is approximately 10 minutes from our house. When we got to the store, the parking lot was dead. When we walked in, the store was dead. When we walked up to the shoe counter, the two woman tending the register looked extremely perturbed that I actually wanted to ask them if they had the shoes in stock. "We will be right with you!" they anxiously spat at me as they helped NO ONE. No one in front of me, no one behind me and then, there it was.... THE PHONE! It was still off the hook! Wait, could it be, ...was it ....still the same call that I had placed nearly ONE HOUR AGO??? I called my hubby on my cell phone and proceeded to ask them what time they closed. When we determined that he could hear the store clerk answer me from both phones I then told a male employee I believe that this phone call was my previously placed call, picked up the phone off the counter and proceeded to have a chat with my hubby. By then, the two stressed-out women were long gone and their poor male co-worker was left feeling totally embarrassed. My son burst out laughing because you just can't make this sh*t up, and the whole experience was like a comedy of customer service errors. The male employee who later helped us apologized and I was happy to give the sale to him (if he did indeed get any sort of commission). On a side note the sandals were cute and do fit, however, it looks as though someone had worn them and returned them. Because they were on sale and I had Macy's money and a gift card, I decided to get them. In all honesty, I'm not a terribly picky person. The sakes person was finishing with another customer and asked us to go to towels. Sigh. Told her no one was working there in that section. Fine, she said I'll help you in a minute. Another sakes lady came over with customers to help them with something online, they left and she left. No greeting, offer to help. Nope. Nada.
