I belong to a group that is Dudes, Dining & Destinations, and we kind of ambushed this place, Mad Dog and Cats Steak today, sunday August 9th 2026. We had about 25/30 of us. The 2 waitresses we had, Mel B and Kara B were awesome. I had the French Onion Soup and Patty Melt and my friend had the side salad with a beef brisket sandwich. They both came out in a timely manner, was very tasteful and plentiful, even took left overs home even. If you find yourself out in st Charles area sometime , stop by and check them out. The food had decent flavor, but overall I was disappointed with the experience. I ordered the House Chicken, and while the chicken and sauce had good flavor, the vegetables were cut into very large, uneven chunks, which made the dish less enjoyable to eat. I also ordered the Pork Mongolian, and unfortunately, it was mostly onions with very little pork. I was expecting a better balance of meat and vegetables. Another issue was the menu. There aren't really combination options, and the menu is a little difficult to navigate, making it hard to know what to order or what comes with each dish. The food wasn't terrible, but there are definitely some areas that could be improved, especially the portion balance, vegetable preparation, and menu options. read more

Ambience is the issue. Food is great. It is the ambiance that needs the upgrade. There are several noisy televisions, plus the radio. Dining in is for the experience, atmosphere, mood AND food. Television is polarizing, distracting, and costs extra money for this business to run via energy bills, and satellite bills. No one will miss them should you remove them. I understand this is part of the business model, based on 25 years ago. More modern society wants the experience of the establishment. Not more TV. I do not want to see "news" while emjoying a meal. It is negative. Being startled by sports screaming is not great, is best served if the establishment is a SPORTS bar. We get our food to go for this reason. Cute little restaurant and bar. Met a friend for lunch. I ordered the BLC Salad. They mix the ranch dressing into the salad which was a nice plus. The salad was huge which was another huge plus. I like when the sliced egg and chicken are warm when the rest of the salad ingredients are cold. Fresh ingredients and very flavorful. Such a great dining experience! Our server was friendly and very well-informed. The walleye was perfectly seasoned with an even-handed layer of light breading, and, *chef's kiss* homemade tartar sauce. Shoestring fries were the perfect pairing. The citrus dressing I requested for my dinner salad was a bright, creamy surprise, perfectly balanced. I will say, decor and ambiance-wise, it feels better suited to dinner dining (think sports bar), but that does not take away from the food itself. I would dine here again! read more

Nice place to have a late lunch or an early dinner with a friendly staff and a full bar. The chicken Lombardo was delicious, a moist chicken breast smother with cheese, mushrooms and a wine sauce served with a yummy twice baked potato and a vegetable and a tasty triple chocolate cake for dessert. I'm absolutely miffed and ticked off at myself for not eating here years ago. I've driven by it literally tens of dozens of times. First impression is that it's as much a bar as a restaurant, but I've never been to a bar with the quality of food I found here. It's a nice clean modern place in a strip center. Our waitress Melissa was as good as it gets. The Mrs had the certified Angus sirloin steak with a twice baked potato and it was perfectly seasoned. I had the walleye with french fries and a mayonnaise coleslaw, plus a house salad. The salad came out first and it looked like a legit sous chef prepared it, check out my pictures. The walleye was lighter breaded, perfectly seasoned and tenderly fried. I'm not a french fry guy but these are fantastic, the coleslaw was also darn good. The highlight of the meal was the bread pudding, absolutely the best I've ever had. I'll be coming back again and again. Well done! read more

We stopped by Mad Dog and Cat's for the first time on a recent trip to the St. Louis, MO area.  We happened to be there on a Monday night, a great night because of the Monday special ... the King Cut sirloin steak special.  Our waitress was Peggy from behind the bar, who was delightful!  Attentive, but not intrusive.  The key to any night at MD&Cs is to get there and order before 6:00pm ... on their signature entrees, order before 6:00pm and you get a complimentary dinner salad and dessert with your meal ... what a bargain!  We started with a couple of cocktails, to get our bearings and study the menu.   For entrees we selected the Famous Northern Walleye, a dish repeatedly mentioned in critics' reviews.  It was awesome... generous portion, lightly battered, perfectly fried and served piping hot... the skinny fries were perfect too.  Deelish!  The King Cut sirloin was perfectly cooked, and the twice-baked potato was fantastic!  Both entrees came with the complimentary dinner salads (blue cheese and house dressings) and desserts (triple chocolate cake and banana foster cake).  The salads were ample, the dressings home-made, fresh, and oh-so tasty.  The desserts were sublime (and did I mention complimentary).  All in all, a great meal with great service at a hole in the wall place in a strip center.  A hidden gem for sure... Although you seat yourself, our waitress arrived at our table immediately after we sat down. She was friendly and quick to return with our drinks. We ordered our usual, the Famous Walleye, and it did not disappoint. It was crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside. We also shared the Gouda and Crab Dip. It was good, but the Walleye was great. The ambiance has not changed for years; therefore a bit dated which is kind of part of the charm. As it was full when we arrived, it was also a bit loud. My wife, daughter and I enjoyed a luncheon meal there today. We ordered the pot stickers appetizer, French onion soup, the walleye plate with French fries and two salads. Place was full for a Tuesday night and food came out quickly. The walleye was much smaller than other times but still very good. The waitress came to check on us only once. We did not even get refills. Fries were just lots of little pieces instead of the long fries which I prefer. No bud light draft but they had other options in draft. Music was playing but its so small in there with so many people that it didn't matter. You can play keno if you want. Salad was really big for just a side salad. The hamburger was excellent. Potato salad is the cold one and its very good. Around $50 for 2 of us including 2 beers and a chocolate cake for dessert. Plenty of parking. Bathroom was clean! read more

Got the gouda cheese dip. It was very hot! It burned my mouth. I sat and let it cool for a while. The waitress and manager came to our table twice and asked if they could take it away. I wasn't done. I was unable to eat it till it cooled. I was supposed to get " 4 color chips. " I was given small pieces of bread instead. On the next visit to our table the waitress asked if she could take it away. Before I could answer the manager said "take it anyway!" I didn't get to eat. There were empty tables, so I don't understand why they were trying to get rid of me. I guess because I am elderly. We come here often, near to our home. The food has always been great, love the walleye, Jack Daniel's salmon and even the dinner salad is great. We have noticed the prices have increased and there is a 4% charge for using a credit card. We feel like this is reasonable during these times. Service has improved since we first started coming about 5 years ago. Staff is super friendly and responsive. Our one issue is at this price and quality level I would expect a much better appearance. A fresh coat of paint and updated decor is needed to keep up with the food and prices. read more

We seem to visit Mad Dog and Cat's in spurts...we go fairly often and then not so often for a period of time. Each time we are there we comment on how delicious our meal is. They have specials most days if the week, and the last one I had was a baked pasta with meatballs...delicious! We nearly always get a cup or bowl of the best French Onion Soup in the area and someone in our party seems to opt for their chicken tenders; they, too, have just the right breading and I think our family could eat them several times a week. I, personally, could make a regular diet of French Onion Soup, a couple of chicken tenders, and their BLT chopped salad! Yum! The tables are relatively close together, but even during a busy time it is never terribly loud. The waiters and waitresses are always prompt and pleasant and that makes the experience worth any effort. Give them a try and see if you agree that their food is delicious! read more

This little gem serves up excellent quality food, on every visit ( a dozen or so visits) since it opened years ago. It sounds more like a bar, and while some bar food is good, Mad Dog & Cats is a level above any bar food I've experienced. They have "Famous Barr" onion soup, that is spot on to this nostalgic comfort food for many St. Louis residents. Salads are excellent. I normally get the buffalo chicken salad with blue cheese dressing. My other favorite is the blackened chicken sandwich with pepper cheese.
