It's a small menu, but clearly that allows and incredible focus on the quality and the details. I cannot imagine being unhappy with anything listed. We had a reservation to celebrate Valentine's Day at Noto (upstairs) for 8:30, so decided to get some appetizers at Bormio before. It was decently busy for a Wednesday night but there was plenty of bar seating. The decor is beautiful and I especially appreciated their carefully curated glass and tableware--all stunning. Our bartender, whose name I fail to remember, was excellent. She had great beer recommendations. We tried the Hefe Weissbier (my favorite, which paired perfectly with both appetizers), the Meteor Pils, and the Gaffel Kolsch. I'd recommend all of them if you're a beer drinker! The spinach dumplings are a must. They are bursting with spinach flavor and swimming in a rich brown butter sauce. We also tried the alpine dip, which comes with an enormous soft pretzel. It was okay, but the dip wasn't exactly what we were expecting. I'd probably pass on the alpine dip next time. Overall an amazing experience and I look forward to enjoying a full meal there next visit. This restaurant is a gem! The food is absolutely delicious, and a blend of Italian, German and French cuisine. We enjoyed the alpine dip as our appetizer and loved the dill in the cheese spread. It was a great twist! For dinner, we had the pork shank, the short rib, the wurst, and the spinach dumplings. All were amazing! For dessert, we tried the "milk and cookies" and the milk was ovaltine Andy's cookies were huge. The wine list was great too. My husband got the Italian old fashioned and he said it was one of the best he's ever had: it has vanilla infused whiskey and a balsamic. Love the setting. Hard to describe , but like a modern old world winery. Came for the seasonal fondue offered during Happy Hour. It was a delicious cheese fondue with meats, breads, veggies for dipping and some side accompaniments. Everything was perfect....and I have never said that. Such a great casual-chic European vibe, unhurried but attentive service in a "not too loud" space. The food surpassed our expectations. The bacon-potato app was Lick the plate clean good; salads were great; and each main better than the last. The pork chops and short ribs were melt-in-your mouth tender and the mushroom spatzle a revelation. Then the panna cotta was the perfect finale. Finding the place was a bit of a challenge as it was my first time here and I didn't know this was located toward the back of the building. There are 3 restaurants in total occupying the general building area but you have to walk towards the back to see their sign and the entrance. Once I found it though, the place was lovely, our waitress was very friendly and had the right amount of attentiveness and left us alone while we chatted over drinks. They have some interesting cocktails but I had a pinot noir. Friends did order a variety of different cocktails which looked tantalizing. I started with the beet salad. It was delicious. I also got to share one of my friend's pretzel and quark dip which was great. I'm not huge on carby appetizer but a little went a long way for me. The dip was really good though. I ordered the fish for my entrée. Very good and well prepared but I wanted to save room for dessert so I decided to take half of my meal home. And yes, proceeded to ordering dessert. I had the cheesecake. Not a huge serving so it was perfect for my already full person. No one had to carry me out via a wheelbarrow fortunately! With that said, I really enjoyed my dining experience here. To drink I ordered some mocktails throughout the night since I'm pregnant. My first one was the spiced caffe and it was very good and the second one was alpine air. Alpine air was my favorite because I liked the bit of tartness from the lime. My husband got an Italian beer and he really enjoyed it! To eat we started with the alpine dip, so good! The bread that came with it was perfect and I'm not kidding when I say I could have eaten the dip with a spoon. What a neat space on the lower level beneath Noto. It's relaxing and somehow both intimate and airy inside. Our server was also great - attentive and chatty, but not overly so. Food is Alpine, which is code for German(Bavarian)/Swiss/Northern Italian. But few people will go out to a German restaurant, haha. Anyway, for what it was, the food was very good. The house salad (Bormio salad) was easily splittable for the two of us before our entrees. It was quite rich with the anchovy dressing, parmigiano, and pistachio breadcrumbs, so it was probably best to split the volume. My sauerbraten was well prepared. Meat was fork tender and flavorful, with a nice polenta bed. The wife's rotolo pasta was also good, hearty, and appealing. But our dessert was the highlight. It was sfogliatelle, with the closest parallel I can give being lobster tail pastry. Except the sfogliatelle is smaller, the pastry is somewhat denser, and the filling is ricotta & citrus rather than simply a cream. And they brought it out fresh from being baked! Oh! And one cute little easter egg is that one of the bathrooms has the wall covered with little paintings of cats in medieval outfits. But don't think of stealing them. My wife and I stopped by Bacaro after running some errors late in the afternoon. We had heard good things but hadn't been at Bacaro before. We arrived around 5:00 it was wide open. The atmosphere was excellent. We sat at the end of the bar where we could watch the bartender make all of the drinks. He was excellent and interacted with everyone at the bar. We watch him make a lot of interesting drinks that I hadn't seen before. I had a Manhattan and it was great. My wife asked for a non sweet somewhat dry wine and he gave her something that she loved. Bormio feels like a labor of love in all the best ways! Super small menu but each dish is so well done, so beautifully presented, it just gives that feeling of something special, made just for you. Space is teeny tiny so take that into account, there is additional seating outside so maybe plan your visit on a nice evening to take advantage of that. We started with the Alpine Dip and Cucumber appetizers, which were divine. The dip featured quark cheese, which I was not familiar with, so it was a new flavor for me and I loved it! The cucumber was so fresh and refreshing - I can imagine enjoying this on the patio with a glass of chilled wine for happy hour. For dinner, I chose the Sauerbraten, also new to me, and my friend had the Rotolo Pasta. The Sauerbraten was presented on a bed of creamy polenta and topped with creme fraiche and dill. What an absolute circus of flavor - delightful and slightly tangy but so good! We went to Bormio because we love traveling and I'm desperate to find places that make me forget I'm in Missouri. Being greeted by Botticelli's Venus was a great start. While seated, I noticed the windows in the dining room were perfectly positioned to view the trees and sky without any sign of the parking lot. Perfect. We didn't wait more than a minute before being greeted by Emily. As expected, she was knowledgeable of the flavor profiles within the food and beverage menus. We ordered a surprise flight of Amari and decided to play a game trying to guess which three we had. I only guessed 2 right. Now the food. I will never forget that first bite of short rib, Sauerbraten. No one makes sous vide short rib like that without a passionate love for culinary art. Then there's the venison that can't be adequately described. Just know that it's instantly mouthwatering and gets better from there. The appetizers and salads were multifaceted but balanced in flavor and texture. The dessert menu was on a postcard with a sweet note home to 'Mom'. We chose the strudel. Bormio served us a layered mountain of apples and cherries with a crust that was soft, flaky and perfect. The most impressive part about all of the food we ate was how we weren't stuffed, but exceptionally satiated. This was around the time I was taking in the way the wood paneling was textured but soft without splintering. The lighting was bright but diffused.
