Today was the 3rd anniversary of us stopping off in their Johnson City, TN, location at 2010 Franklin Terrace. This will be our LAST trip for several reasons, itemised below. I ordered the Gyro Platter $17.99, and one 16-ounce Hawaiian Shirt IPA $5.00. Pepper shakers at the bar were filthy and had not been cleaned. I noticed that the front inner door STILL had a homemade sign on it ( please use the other door)! From my previous service with the US Government, I informed the staff once again that the door being locked or broken was a VIOLATION of the National Fire Safety Code! One member of the staff, who identified herself as a manager, retorted that the door had been broken for years, as she walked away and refused to give her name when asked. Since both doors are required to be open in case of a fire, panic, or an active shooter issue, I found her nonchalant reply UNACCEPTABLE! I reported the violation to the Johns City, fire prevention officer, Keven Hanes, both in email and by telephone message! Knowingly violating fire codes can result in fines, lawsuits, or even loss of business licence! I do pray that Johnson City will investigate this issue and take appropriate action. As of now, this broken door violation has fully served. Fire kills thousands of people in our country every year, locking or not repairing broken exit doors is nothing short of CRIMINAL! SAFETY IS EVERYONE'S BUSINESS! Let them not wait until another group dies, unable to exit! read more

Service was great, facility was well decorated & clean with a small bar area & outside seating is available. Wife & I were passing thru on vacation, had to go pizza, pepperoni, well cooked, kinda bland, not very seasoned. 2nd visit, sat outside, ordered gyro w/fries, wife had side of meatballs, very good, moist & well seasoned. We walked in and ordered food to go. The place was nicer than expected inside. Good selection of food but this place is more of an Italian restaurant in disguise than it is a Greek restaurant. Alot of pizza and pasta on the menu. There were a handful of Greek items, my wife got falafel and it was really dry, I got the gyro plate and it wasn't bad. We were wanting more traditional sides like humus, a Greek salad, and rice, which is usually comes with these types of plates, but their sides offerings were pasta salad, broccoli, and a few other things that don't really fit the bill. We asked if we could make substitutions so that we could have it how we wanted and they nicely obliged but they kept leaving things off, or gave us the wrong thing and we had to go back inside two different times. Glad we didn't just drive away before checking our order. The food was decent enough, may go back to try a few other things. Just wish it was more of what Greek/Mediterranean restaurants are in other areas. read more

We've lived in this area for 7 years and have eaten at the mad Greek many times and have always had a great meal experience. The wait staff has always been amazing. We have brought friends and family there many times as well and they have always been pleased. Always very clean and a good atmosphere. Great prices and very generous portions as we nearly always have a second meal at home the next day. A real gem! And their cakes are legendary!!! read more

I ordered takeout from Mad Greek and was very very pleased--it looks like they have a LOT of good stuff. The sorrento salmon has a very fresh tasting tomato sauce with capers and sun-dried tomatoes. The broccoli and fries with feta and oregano were also good. read more

Mad Greek is an underrated spot in JC. Red Meze downtown gets all the love for Turkish and Greek cuisine, but Mad Greek shouldn't be overlooked. They have nice sized portions and the price isn't bad at all. I went with the traditional gyro and a side of fries with feta and oregano on top. It was honestly fantastic. Thought I would try something new tonight and definitely enjoyed the moussaka. While the bechamel was a little flat the eggplant was cooked decent and the beef had good flavor. "Greek" potatoes as a side were nothing more than roasted new potatoes probably tossed in some olive oil and light seasoning. I really want to like this place as it is one of moms favorites but it just has no authenticity and really light handed on seasoning. May just need to stick to the pizzas which was a hit with the rest of the family. read more

It's a little hard to find the first time, but mostly because you are heading towards the Sleep Inn and turn off to the right just before their parking lot. There is ample parking, with handicapped parking right next to the building. I ordered using their online menu and requested curbside pickup. I was told it would be ready in about 20 minutes, and to call them when I got there. I arrived 20 minutes later and called their restaurant number. I had to tell them my order again (I didn't receive a number or anything when I ordered), but they brought the food in about five minutes. I went straight home and looked though what I had received. The Greek chicken is advertised as including Kalamata olives, feta, and mozzarella cheese. My piece had a total of three olives off on one side of the chicken breast. The entire dish had cooled more than expected for the drive home, and the cheese had cooled into a sheet you could cut. The chicken itself was dry. This was supposed to come with a salad, but there was nothing included in my order. For my two sides, I ordered the Greek potatoes, but they were nothing special. I think they were just roasted with parmesan sprinkled on after. The pasta with marinara side was very good. Honestly, this was the best part of the meal and why they rate two stars. I know they have other locations, so maybe this one was having an off night. Regardless, there are many other restaurants to try before I come back here. read more

My family and I stopped by this place because the outside patio looked so cute! As soon as you walk in they have a display of all these fancy cakes. The menu was all reasonably priced, and they had plenty of great options from pizzas to salads to soups and pasta. Food was delicious, and they give you plenty. the food is mediocre-pretty good but the desserts are fantastic. sadly, the last several times i've been in the past couple of years, they're always out of my favorite (chocolate cheesecake). i went today to try again (birthday) and they closed early today randomly and just because. they wouldn't sell me anything before 8:45. i didn't order any food, i just wanted a slice of premade cake from the fridge. if your hours say you're open until 9, BE OPEN UNTIL 9. and if you do close early, for gods sakes lock the doors, turn off the sign, and put a note on the door! i haven't had a good experience here in YEARS and won't be wasting my time here anymore. bummed. read more

First time there, and while the service was very slow, our waitress was very nice and efficient. I had the chicken kabob and it was excellent, my husband tried the Italian side with lasagna. Mine was very good , but my husbands lasagna was not a version either of us would have there again. Our friends had gyros and both said they were good. We all had cake to go, but after two bites of the carrot cake I threw it away. Too sweet, cake was soaked in some kind of pineapple juice or coconut that just made it too over the top for me....And my husband had German chocolate and I felt it was also much too sweet, he was ok with it but did not taste like German chocolate. We were recently doing some light shopping in Johnson City and much to my surprise came across the Mad Greek. Greek food just happens to be one of my favorite cuisines so we couldn't resist stopping in for lunch. The menu boasts of an array of cuisines from Greek, to Italian and American. While all of the food was fresh and tasted fine, I definitely did not get the traditional Greek flavors I was looking for. If we lived close I'd definitely put this restaurant into our rotation for something different but if you are looking for really good, traditional Greek food you may want to sit this one out. It's "okay" here... location is convenient but out of the way at the same time. I had really excited when I visited Mad Greek some time back because it was recommended to me by quite a few people. My visit was good, food wise. Service was lacking though. Server that took care of us was as cold as a winter's night. It wasn't because she was having a bad day or anything, because we seen her clearly interact with other patrons (we sat right by the bar). Evening the ordering process was unpleasant as I felt we were being rushed. I wanted forever for my beer (did I mention we sat right next to the bar?). Most likely won't be coming back but can't say I don't recommend it because your visit may vary of course. You most likely will get better service than we got cause well, it isn't hard at all to do better. Glad there's plenty of other good restaurants around but glad they are around regardless. read more

The stater Greek salad I had was very good. The chicken Marsala was not. Cut up, overcooked chicken on a bed of spaghetti, and a hint of Marsala sauce. The mushrooms might have been salted in something, because they were the only flavorful thing in the bowl. read more
