What an excellent find in Johnson City! Our waitstaff was super friendly and they made some great recommendations. The vibe eating outside on a cloudy 80 degree day made the experience even that more enjoyable. I apologize in advance for not remembering the actual menu names of the food we ordered, so I'm kinda winging it here. Speaking of wings, the Turkish spiced wings were so dang good! Perfectly spiced with tight and crispy skin. What a treat. The falafel app we ordered that came with hummus and babaganoush, wow. Excellent homemade falafel and you can tell the accompaniments were also made in house too. Could have eaten three more portions of the falafel by myself. The Chicken Adana kebab was moist and juicy and charred and spiced and seasoned and fantastically delicious. The basmati rice was buttery, the pita was toasted and fresh. Today was really good weather so everyone was downtown on the patio of every restaurant and we equally wanted to be on patio. Yeah that didn't happen because this place was also packed on the patio LMAO So keep that in mind. Good weather=slim chances of sitting outside especially on a Saturday. But, we actually enjoyed sitting indoors, less busy inside, more quiet. The seat inside are like a bench style so keep that in mind if you are a huge privacy person. Also the tables are small so if you are ordering a appetizer try to finish before your food comes out that way she can grab it. It was very tight when the entree came. The wall has a unique aesthetic with different items stemming from their culture. Our waitress was really nice, great sense of humor, and very well dressed in appearance. She paid attention in making sure we got a refill. Appetizer: 3 triple dipper hummus where you get pita bread and 3 flavors of hummus. The jalapeno hummus is the only one that stood out with a taste and flavor. The other two tasted the same and was very bland in my opinion. I ordered the Meze Bowl with couscous and it was really good except the hummus I think it was red roasted I can't remember. I would have been happy just with the jalapeno hummus. The person who I was with ended up getting a kabob and he enjoyed his food. Will I go back ? Yes This was my first visit so next time I know what to order. But, I would be more interested in visiting on a regular weekday vs the weekend. I think people should check it out for sure! read more

This place is a lovely oasis of food and atmosphere downtown. Loved the meze platter variety- the roasted eggplant was such a standout that I ordered the roasted eggplant entree as well and was not disappointed. Their baba ganoosh was fresh and full of eggplant flavor, with much less additives some places use like mayo. The long grain rice was delicate and flavorful. The food quality and flavor is great for this style of Mediterranean food compared to similar establishments across the campus/downtown area. However the price is high for a basic gyro with one side added $13. I felt the menu was labeled in such a way to trick you into paying more to add a side which doesn't make me feel great about recommending it. You can't beat the view! There's even a LEVEL UP FROM THE DINING AREA TO ENJOY A COCKTAIL. The service was spot on with a wide selection of menu items to choose from. This local Greek restaurant NEVER disappoints. The triple hummus dip is delicious; we get it every time. Tonight we had the beef kabobs and iskender. The beef were huge medallions cooked beautifully. The iskender is gyro meat with a tomato sauce and yogurt, over pitas and with rice. My absolute favorite! Our server, Zack, was helpful, pleasant, and very nice. Stopped in on a whim and I am so glad we did! The dolma were great. The falafel was crisp on the outside, tender on the inside, and not at all dry! But the real star of the show was the Spicy Chicken Adana Kebab!! The kebab alone was delicious and had a nice spice, but the hot sauce was out of this world delicious!! Great food and service and love the Gyro and Greek salad side for dinner on October 22, 2025.

We went to Red Meze (meh- zeh) for the first time last night. We walked straight to the host stand to get seated because we weren't sure if people usually seat themselves or not. It was a little busy when we were sat, so it took a minute to get our drinks, but the server and owner were both extremely nice. We started with the ezme and pita since they only serve their dolma cold here. It was super yummy and had a nice kick to it, although I would love to have it spicier! Next, the Greek salad and Greek pasta salad were also yummy. I ended up mixing both the house dressing and tzatziki sauce on the regular salad. It was a nice and yummy combo. The pasta salad on the other hand was a bit bland, so I added some house dressing and ezme and it was an amazing remix! For entrees, we ordered the gyro and beef kebabs. Everything was warm and came out in a timely manner. I had the gyro which was tasty, but it wasn't fully dressed which was disappointing. My sandwich only had lettuce and was missing tomatoes and onions. My boyfriend requested his kebabs without rice, and the chefs were nice enough to give him a huge salad on his plate. It was served with Grecian and hot sauce for dipping which he really enjoyed. read more

I want to address Amelia T.s review from yesterday. First I don't know how Yelp thinks I'm from Ottawa CA I updated my location but it still says that; so, I'm from the Tri-Cities area of NE TN. I've been eating at RED MEZE for well over 10+ years. Amelia's review sounds like someone that no longer works there. This restaurant prepares everything in-house. It is a magnificent Mediterranean experience. Owners are originally from Turkey and they know how to cook! As for their wait staff, their current staff is amazing and I know two that have worked there probably for 2 years or more. Never have I ever had inconsistent food at this location. It is always the same. Even during covid when we had to do carry out it was still homemade and spot on. Having ate in their restaurant on average of once a week for more than 10 years I have NEVER heard them speak terribly to staff. They do require a strong work ethic and cleanliness and constant attention to customers. If staff cannot report for work and be attentive to the customers the owners will take over and do it for them. They are there every day, never leaving a manager to "handle" things. Do they exact certain standards from staff, yes, and I'm glad because I know I'll get great service, great food, and great atmosphere. Why do I eat here so often because it's CONSISTENT. AND CLEAN. I LOVE this place and prefer it over any other restaurant in town. I don't think for the quality and amount of food it is overpriced. I can go elsewhere and not nearly get the same service, quality of quantity, especially at any chain restaurant. They actually have customers that eat there more often than I do. Children are welcome but it is small and children should be monitored and well behaved or they will be in the way of staff and customers. I've seen children running all over the place and by the door for staff to the kitchen and they can get hit when someone comes out. I've NEVER seen anything said or done to customers or staff that would show a toxic or hostile environment. Are the staff stretched, yes if it's busy and someone doesn't show up. I've personally seen one person that's still there over 2 years, take care of the entire restaurant inside and patio alone with the help of the owner, seating and filling drinks so if it's so toxic, ask yourself why they would stay. And to end this on a positive note, this restaurant has almost 5 stars. It was voted best of the best for Mediterranean in the Johnson City Press in 2024. How are they rated this high and won best Mediterranean by voters in Johnson City it they're like her review? Go try it for yourself. I can highly recommend the Meze Bowl, the sultan pizza, kanat, iskandar just anything on the menu is phenomenal and don't forget the FRESH IN HOUSE MADE HUMMUS. Food is great with good flavors of the Middle East. Limited seating so if you have a large group make you have a reservation. Prices our fair but they have one oddity of charging you for every basket of pita. $9 for an appetizer dish with not enough pita to even finish a third of it is a little sad.
