Perhaps this place does good work, but I wouldn't know…read more My father and I were 45 miles deep into our ride when my chain broke. We hoofed it a mile or so to the nearest bike shop, in the hopes they'd be able to swap w/ new chain. Instead, we were told "that's not how it works---we have 5 week backlog". The chain is standard size and having changed many before, I know that w the basic tools it'd be a 5-10 min fix. I understand the high service volume, but i think setting aside a few minutes to help riders who are in the midst of a long ride is the right choice. We're not being impatient-- we're stuck! Anyway, we were too focused on getting back to our ride to fully course correct the kid behind the counter. Just smirked, bought a chain (and chain tool) and replaced it out front the store. And yup, it took about 15 min. I now have an extra chain tool and a bike store I'll avoid next time.

After getting my All City Zigzag back from a tuneup and wheel check (sealant and truing), I took it out for a ride and and at mile 32 the rear tire blew away from the wheel and completely destroying the wheel. When inspecting the wheel I noticed that they changed the tire with Panaracer Gravel King. A gravel tire that I don't like and I did not authorize. I cannot prove that the change caused the blow out but it could have. (I had changed the tires during RAGBRAI, so I did know they were in good shape.) On the plus side, they did get me a set of DT Swiss wheels for an excellent price and gave me a lift home so all is well. I do know that the bicycle industry is in upheaval at this time, so the LBSs should be more communicative with the customers. The new management must take the attitude, "In the matter of taste, the customer is always right". I lowered the rating of the bike shop because, when I took the bike out on a ride yesterday I started hearing noises in the in the brakes. I took it to a different mechanic that I'm familiar with. What I found out was the brakes were not bled and it took several syringes to clear fouled fluid in rear and replaced rear caliper. The rear derailleur cable was not fully in slot at clamp, and the headset needed lubing and tightened I won't even mention that the bar tape was shoddily wrapped. At one time this was a good bike shop and I hope it becomes one again.

I asked a couple questions about the menu and was immediately directed to the BLT by a woman in the kitchen. Wow I wasn't disappointed. It was sooooo good. The bread was toasted perfectly (so it didn't kill the roof of my mouth), the tomato's and lettuce were fresh, the bacon crispy, and that basil mayo. A life changing BLT if there is such a thing. A couple side notes I appreciate. Bittersweet's marketing team deserves. Ton of credit - they have some awesome swag available for purchase. Also, this is a Christian oriented cafe with bible verses, messaging, and music. Love it! And finally, check out the story about Bittersweet's roots, its commitment to addiction recovery/support, and the owner's son's story/passing. The name "Bittersweet Cafe" will take on a deeper meaning (the news articles can be found in the walls before the counter by the bathrooms). Cheers Bittersweet, thanks for having me, and God bless!

Servers were friendly and hospitable. The only downside is waiting in line to order and then waiting for your food. This is probably not the place to come when you have a time crunch, but if you can eat a leisurely meal, come on! I had the Bittersweet chicken salad sandwich and we shared a peanut butter mousse dessert, both were great!

That led us straight to Heidi's Bakery & Cafe, and honestly? Total home run. There's a sign hanging on the wall that says: "Homemade with love and butter." That pretty much tells you everything you need to know. You can taste the care and quality in everything they make. We ordered the BLTs on homemade sourdough, and they were absolute perfection --thick, delicious bacon, crisp beautiful lettuce, sweet tomatoes, and sourdough that deserved its own standing ovation. A truly excellent BLT is a thing of beauty, and Heidi's version was gorgeous. The french fries had some kind of secret seasoning situation happening that made them completely addictive. Every bite somehow got better. And then the desserts. Cupcakes. Cookies. Pastries. Basically a direct shipment from heaven itself. The kind of bakery case that makes you start negotiating with your own self-control and losing immediately. If you're exploring the mountains and backroads around Cathedral State Park, this place is 100% worth the stop. Warm, homemade comfort food done right.
