We delight in annual meetings at Casselman's and delight in the menu, the kitchen, and the service. Caveat: avoid at all costs the Casselman version of Buckwheat Cakes - This is a shame version. We delight in the original tart and thin Buckwheat cake of Preston County. Have enjoyed nearly all items on menu. Prices have increased while portions have decreased. My brother insists in the chthonic time after breakfast and prior to lunch. Highly recommend.... There are several dining options in this area, and all are good. read more

The restaurant seemed to be utterly packed on a Saturday night, probably owing to the dearth of dining choices in the area. Despite that, we were seated relatively quickly. The interior is quite homey and traditionally old-fashioned, making us feel at home. This beautiful historic Inn with dining room in Grantsville is worth a visit. We were greeted by lovely gardens with an inviting front porch. The Inn is locally owned surrounded by charming antique shops and local businesses. The Inn was built on Old National Trail in 1842 and serviced travelers crossing the mountains, making it a historic landmark. The venue and story transport you back 175 years. The dining room is simple with colonial decor and fireplace. Downstairs, bakers conjure fabulous traditional breads and pies. The menu offers traditional breakfast items plus the Colossal Cinnamon Roll, which caught my husband's eye. The roll comes with either vanilla or maple icing. He took both. The roll is a phenomenal must-order. He said it was the best that he has ever had, and he's had a lot. I had the breakfast burrito. Filled with hot eggs, bacon, hash browns and cheese. The burrito was filling. I only ate half and took the rest to go. The servers are friendly and willing to offer suggestions. Our server, Shayla, was attentive and checked on us several times. Food came out reasonably for freshly prepared meal. There is a gift shop offering local jams, pickles, cheeses and more. I'm definitely returning to spend a night in the historic inn. The adjacent motel is reasonable and pet friendly. The area is picturesque, romantic setting and worth a visit. There is plenty of parking in private lot. Restrooms available. It's hard to find the right words to describe The Casselman- in all the best way! Let's start with the easiest- the food. It's like walking into your favorite grandmas house for Sunday dinner. This just might be my new favorite restaurant! The place has a certain charm about it that's hard to come by. There is a lot of history behind the restaurant and inn. The food here is absolutely delicious. I ordered the Roast Beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. It really hit the spot. Everything was homemade down to the bread. They also offer baked goods which we took advantage of. I found my favorite cookies, peanut butter blossoms. They were amazing! All of the employees were friendly and attentive. This restaurant is in my hometown, and I eat here frequently when I go home to visit. This morning I joined other cousins for a breakfast. We reserve the small dining room so we could be uninterrupted by other guests. Our waitress was a lovely young lady, who kept our coffee filled and served as well. I don't remember her name, but she was a two week newlywed. The food was delicious as always. I have not had buckwheat cakes in years, but these took me back to my childhood. If you order their pancakes or buckwheat cakes, be sure to ask for real maple syrup. There is nothing like it. Our table of nine ordered different entrées. We had a delightful time. Thank you to the Casselman staff! I realize I am partial to this place because I am connected to the people who own it. However, I would never do a review unless it was true. Stopped here on a Saturday for lunch while in the area for "yard sale spree". Probably have driven past this place a hundred times over the years and didn't know it was also a restaurant not just a b&b. Reminded me of Penn Alps down the road with jams and jarred items for sale when you walk in. Gift shop as well as a check-in area for those who stay at the inn part. They have breakfast buffets on the weekend, and for lunch the menu didn't really have a lunch menu but just a standard menu for the day. I ordered a chicken strip wrap and added grilled zucchini. The wrap was pretty pedestrian - would have liked to have it pressed or wrap in some manner. Kind of reminded me of something you get from a cafeteria at school. Not that it is a bad thing by any way - but wasn't what I expected. There is apple butter on the table which they bring out their bread as a table appetizer. Both were great and appreciated. I would have put this as a 3 - but the hospitality put it over the edge. Very nice group of folks run this place. Very attentive and nice and make you feel right at home. I haven't been here a lot but whenever I do come I always get the Maryland Crab soup. It is loaded with lots of vegetables and potatoes, also has the right amount spice added to it without making it too spicy. They are also always so pleasant whenever I come. read more

Cute little bed and breakfast restaurant me and my girlfriends went to on the way home from our wkend trip to Deep Creek. We had breakfast and it was ok nothing to write home about. The biggest complaint we had was they barely cooked the scrapple (it was mushy and not crispy at all) and some of our food was cold like it was ready and just had been sitting there. Stopped by for a Wednesday lunch and took advantage of the soup and salad buffet. Nothing fancy but a bargain at $10.00. Salad offerings included everything imaginable except bacon if you wanted to make a spinach salad. Seven soups were available along with grilled cheese sandwiches. I have vacationed in this area all my life (Deep Creek Lake) and a friend and I wanted to meet for lunch and though, we have eaten at another's restaurant near here... we saw all the cars here so decided to try here. The outside is beautifully "fall" decorated with lots of diff pumpkins, squashed and flowers...very nice. Inside the rooms are as was built in 1842, mostly small dining rooms and a few larger room. The menu is country with meatloaf, roasted turkey, roast beef, hamburgers etc. They also had some salads so I tried the blackened grilled chic and it was huge, fresh and tasty! They don't have a salad bar set up but appears they do at times..maybe dinner!?! My husband got a grilled Reuben and though not the best he ever had, he said it was good! Great service from the moment you walked in the door. Cute gift shop, homemade baked goods and jams to take home. We had the roast beef with mashed potatoes sandwich, Rueben, and fried mushrooms. All were very good. The waitress was amazing and was on top of everything. After they offered to let us go up and see the rooms at the inn. Another place with old school charm. The building is absolutely beautiful, inside and out; very vintage. They do have dinner and lunch but I have not been. I have been there for the buffet breakfast which is very good. The biggest reason for this review is their baked goods. The cinnamon rolls here are to DIE FOR. They are the definition of a good ole cinnamon roll. They don't skimp on the icing and they are just so good. They have different flavors I believe but I always get the regular cinnamon rolls with vanilla icing. Whenever I'm going through this area I typically always stop and get a batch of cinnamon rolls if I'm lucky enough that they're still there! read more

This is a great small - town country restaurant with good portion sizes and reasonable prices. Food is tasty, their homemade bread and apple butter is to - die - for. I got the pot roast dinner with mashed potatoes for dinner and it tasted just like grandma used to make with REAL gravy (the most important part). For breakfast i got the French toast (made with their homemade bread) , bacon, and home fries and again, i was not disappointed. Skip the chains and go here for a home style, made from scratch, meal! Recently during our trip to Western Maryland we found this place on an internet search. We drove 30 minutes from where we were staying in Cumberland MD just for breakfast. We ordered the buckwheat pancakes (which my grandfather used to make when I was young) and a home made cinnamon roll with vanilla and maple icing. Both were amazing and reminded us of how real homestyle cooking used to be. The restaurant is part of the Casselman Inn which was built around 1840. They have a full bakery on site which makes most, if not all, of their baked goods. It took a lot of self constraint not to buy one of everything they offered from the bakery it smelled and looked that good. After breakfast we were also treated to a tour of the Inn and the historic rooms available to stay in. The entire time my wife kicked me for not staying here and staying at another location, not as nice, in Cumberland. The next time we are in Western Maryland we will stay in the Inn and enjoy the entire experience. If you want a very nice historic/romantic quite place to stay and eat I highly recommend the Casselman Inn which is full of history along the National road. read more

I've been visiting the Casselman for well over 40 years when in the community. I've seen it in days of great Pa Dutch food and days of "ok" food but I'm once more thrilled to see it back to that fantastic food and family service they were known for. Chef Jeff even whipped up a special Vegan grilled breakfast wrap for a vegan member of our party. So if you want great food, hometown service and a chef happy to go out of his way to accommodate special requests, this is it. read more
