What can I say? The whole fam had a craving for ice cream and we gave in. The friendliest little ice cream shop with smiling faces and nice attitudes . We got to sample a few flavors some settled on Shark attack flavor with the white chocolate chips in it. There was one table and we grabbed it. Most were getting orders to go. Very nice stop

While looking at dessert places in Martha's Vineyard, I heard about Mad Martha's and was interested in stopping by. I had their strawberry and sea salt caramel and I liked both!

There are a boatload of ice cream shoppes in and around this part of Oak Bluffs, but only one had the name that drew me in: Mad Martha. I had hoped to discern whether she was mad (supervillain), mad (fly), mad (bipolar/borderline), mad (angry), mad (6-7), or otherwise. There was no such information when you walked into the shoppe and the teenager scooping ice cream did not seem to be much of an expert about what sort of mad Martha was. Mystery unsolved. However, since it is Martha's Vineyard and with the 50th anniversary of the Jaws film, I was positively delighted to find that they had a shark attack flavour. I will order anything shark attack themed or adjacent, no questions asked, because the food item is usually blue. Blue food is the best sort of food. Plus the strawberry, raspberry, or cherry used as the attack part of the shark is a bonus fruit experience for the day so who can complain about that. Mad Martha's is a calm, cool place in Oak Bluffs to sit with some ice cream and enjoy before/after the gingerbread houses nearby. There is ample seating in the store along the windows as well as right outside the shoppe on benches. The scoops are generous and pricing is fair for the Vineyard. With that being said, only visit if you can handle the unsolved mystery of exactly what type of mad this Martha character was. I like to think her tortured ghost only watches television during NHL season and now is solely focused on lamenting the Bruins trading away Marchy to the Panthers. But that doesn't affect her ability to serve up scoops of shark attack when the game isn't on.

I've recently seen multiple reviews online claiming that Mad Martha's was THE SPOT for ice cream while on the island so I decided to give it a try. The interior is very spacious but lacking in seating for its patrons. There's a lot of "empty space" that could hold more tables and chairs. On this particular day there were a bunch of people inside waiting to order with no designated line...it seemed chaotic. I tried a few of samples (pistachio, blueberry, and coconut) as there are lots of ice cream flavors to choose from, but without tasting it I decided on the sea salt caramel scoop with heath bar bits on top. I usually love anything with caramel so I had high hopes. My small, one scoop cup came up to about $8 total. I honestly was not impressed with the flavor of the ice cream. It lacked the sea salt caramel decadence that I was hoping for, although I have to stay it was very creamy. I've had better ice cream elsewhere and definitely won't be back to Mad Martha's.

Nice variety, they serve coffee, too. Flavor of the month and rotating ice cream flavors. Cone or cup. Friendly service. Island prices. Cute decor. Limited seating with 4 tables. They sell some candy and merch, too.

This is my favorite island ice cream joint. I think the flavors and creaminess of the ice cream are what you would expect and they really pack the ice cream onto your cone. Staff are friendly and patient about letting you try different flavors to help make up your mind. I usually just dive in and make a selection without testing however. There are a few seats inside but if its crowded there is seating along Circuit Ave where you can people watch while you lick.

Great place to cool off on a hot summer day! Very nice and clean inside and the staff were very knowledgeable of all the flavors. You can try samples before choosing your flavor and Mud Pie was absolutely delicious!! Great ice cream and great service!

Had to try..bc this seems to me an MV staple. With their collab with back door donuts went with the Apple fritter flavor ice cream...which was different. Def have never had a donut flavored ice cream. Appreciate the creativity prob would try something else next time. Great service and staff.

Love the ice cream here...Had the pistachio ice cream and it was Devine...nice big pieces of pistachio mixed into the ice cream. It's a must visit if you're an ice cream lover.

The ice cream was SO GOOD!! Don't think anything needs to change to make it any better. server was polite and quick. Loved the spaciousness inside and eating area not being crowded.

First time to Martha's Vineyard and it was hot, hot, hot! What to do on a hot summer day on the island? Get some cold ice cream. Mad Martha's was recommended by a friend of ours and we're glad we stopped in for a treat. The Maple Walnut was divine. I had order regret when I tasted it because I ordered the Pistachio when Butter Pecan was not on the menu board. Not one to trade, my hubby devoured the Maple Walnut. The servers were all very professional and friendly. For a special bonus, check out the Legend of Mad Martha posted on the wall. Interesting!

Just ok. My frappe was very bland tasting and expensive. Would try another place next time.

Nothing like having cold ice cream on a late summer night. It was delicious... Make sure you have some before leaving the island.

The apple fritter is the star of the show--warm, rich, and loaded with flavor, with actual pieces of apple on top. Go early in the morning when everything is fresh and hot. Trust me. One fritter is more than enough to share because it's huge and mad rich, but it is seriously to die for. I also tried the glazed and raspberry-filled donuts, which were both really good, but that apple fritter is on another level. The line definitely waxes and wanes, so it's hard to predict the best time to go. This week there were MAD people, but I'd still stand in that line again for the apple fritter. If you only order one thing, make it the apple fritter.

Anyways, I was so happy to see something savoury available, I ordered a Spinach Feta Croissant and looking around, I spotted the donut I knew that I had to have. When in Martha's Vineyard, anything Jaws themed is an automatic yes! They have Jaws donuts and they are too cute to not get. Everything was what you'd expect, nothing out of this world, but I did love the theming of the donut. Perfect for a photo opp and a sugar rush.
