a cup of ice cream on a table
    Steven W.

We came into the Big Dipper for ice cream and a cup of cappuccino. Very friendly staff and had a good variety of sweet ice creams. We ordered a cup of mint-chocolate chip, which was good and did not melt quickly. We also added nuts on top. The cappuccino was mediocre but the ice cream hit the spot for a hot summer day!

I stopped by after dinner for a pint of ice cream to enjoy later at home. The staff was extremely friendly and happy. I purchased a quart of ice cream with three flavors including cherry chocolate chip, chocolate chocolate and something else I thought was salty carmel. We found the ice cream to be less creamy than some of the other Island brands we have tried but happy to have it and it hit the spot.

While visiting the island of Martha's Vinyard, we came across this brunch / ice cream shop. It was early in the day and we really just wanted something on a bagel, and this place looked like it would get the job done. There was a long line, so that was our first sign that it was probably a good spot. Plus, this location was right next to where our ferry stop was. So, we ordered some iced coffees here, as well as a sausage, egg, & cheese on a bagel; and a bagel with cream cheese, bacon, and avocado. The iced coffee was good. I tried peppermint flavor in mine, and it made the coffee look like a green color, but was still good. I had the sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich, and was very satisfied with it. No issues and the bagel was great. My girlfriend also enjoyed her bagel with the cream cheese, avocado, bacon combo. Everything tasted great. Overall, this place hit the spot to get our day started on the island.

This shop hits the spot. Located in Oak Bluff a block or so from the beach, they have a decent array of flavors and options. Note: they don't sell by the scoop. You chose a cup size: small, medium or large (I think). If you want your ice cream in a cone, they'll just measure it in the cup size and transfer it to your cone. They also sell Del's frozen lemon ices! Was a bit confusing the way they had people lined up inside. No one was at the door enforcing social distancing, so when the workers eyeballed the amount of people inside, they kind of yelled over from behind the counter that the last two customers who came in would have to wait outside because there were too many people inside. It's a pretty common thing that I see when businesses don't designate a person to regulate social distancing. Otherwise, I had a good visit.

Stopped by Big Dipper to get a breakfast sandwich. I tried the Everything Bagel with cream cheese, cucumber, and bacon they had advertised. It sounded like an interesting combination. Service was fast and the girl who toke my order was friendly. Sandwich was very good, a little messy, but good. The cheese cheese had melted against the heat of the toasted bagel. Bacon was crisp and cucumbers were fresh.

Before we left Martha's Vineyard on a Sunday morning, the boyfriend and I had time to make one more stop. Our ferry was leaving in the late morning, and since we didn't have breakfast yet, I wanted to check out one of the little cafes in Oak Bluffs. We were looking for a shop that just had coffee, pastries and sandwiches, but one that wasn't a full-scale restaurant ... and Big Dipper provided the perfect solution. We didn't have to travel too far to find it, either. We just saw the sign that said coffee and ice cream, and we walked right in. For it being a Sunday morning, I was surprised at how many people were already in the small store. They had a good selection of coffees and sweet drinks, and there are a few tables outside for seating. The ice cream parlor takes up half of the interior ... and if we weren't in such a hurry to catch our ferry, I probably would have gotten sidetracked looking at all the ice cream flavors (and probably would have ended up ordering one). The ordering system was a little confusing. The girl at the counter took our order, but we didn't have to pay until after we received our food. Yet, we weren't given a number or anything. So we ordered our food, then I ordered my coffee separately, and we just stood there a bit awkwardly (she put in the sandwich order first, then did the coffee, then I told her which muffin I wanted). Meanwhile, people were lining up behind us. I didn't know what to do because we weren't really done ordering, but I felt like we should stand off to the side (which we did, so other people could see the menu). The ordering process should be a little more streamlined. Anyway, after some waiting, our food came out. The sandwiches were made to order and we were satisfied with what we ordered. Everything was so delicious! Here's what we got: Cinnamon Muffin: I was torn between the assortment of treats--donuts, brownies, chocolate chip cookies, and muffins--but the donuts looked rather ordinary, and I figured I would ask about some of the baked goods before making my decision. The lady behind the counter told me that Big Dipper's muffins are really popular - they're not dry or crumbly; instead, they're fluffy and moist. I've had super dry muffins before (so now I make it a point to ask and try to determine the texture before buying). I was so glad I listened to her recommendation and bought one of these! (She recommended the cinnamon flavor). I loved the moist, buttery taste of the muffin, and it had lots of cinnamon flecks inside, making it the perfect breakfast treat. It was like Cinnamon Toast Crunch, but in muffin form. "Caramel Macchiato": This is located under the "Specialty Drinks" section of the menu. Originally, I was going to order the Toffee Almond Latte, but they couldn't make it that morning, for some reason. Undeterred, I ordered the "Caramel Macchiato" because it's a staple at any coffee shop, and this was nice and refreshing to enjoy during the warm morning. I loved the caramel flavor and the drink's sweetness. I just ordered mine with soy milk and asked for light ice so they wouldn't fill the cup up too much. "Italian": My boyfriend ordered one of the sandwiches and it didn't disappoint. He was so pleased with the sandwich's taste, texture and freshness. I wasn't 100 percent sure of his sandwich's name, but I'm pretty sure it was this Italian one. It had lettuce, tomato, a pesto spread, Swiss cheese, ham and salami (at least, that's what it looked like from the photo I took of his sandwich). He said the bread was delectably crispy but not too hard, and it sported a soft interior. He also loved the meats inside the sandwich and said that this was perfect for lunch, even though we were eating around brunch time. I'm glad we made it to this quaint shop before leaving Martha's Vineyard.

Worst Hot Dog Ever!!!!! Ice cream is fine. Just average really, but the hot dogs tasted like discount crummy dogs you would buy if you were wicked short on cash but had to eat something. Yes, I've been there but I can't believe anyone would ever serve them to the public!!! Don't go here! Go up the Street for Ice Cream, next door for food, across the street for cotton candy but a place that serves such ratty hot dogs deserves to be shunned!

    Cookie dough kids scoop

I was walking around town looking for ice cream and this happened to be right in front of me Service: (5/5) Great! I was super awkward and they handled it well. I ordered a kids scoop and they gave me an ENORMOUS serving. (Defeats the purpose of me ordering a kids scoop vs reg scoop, but I'm definitely happy either way) Ice cream: (4.5/5) I had the cookie dough ice cream. It was actually really good! I would only hope they would have more cookie dough chunks-- but that's just me Environment: (3/5) Nothing really special. They have cute boards for their menus, but it's just an average ice cream shop. If I could get more "kids scoops" that size, I would definitely go again. (The photo doesn't do it justice with how large it actually was)

    Kiddie cup. Coconut flavor.
    Jennifer F.

Wow. Service is sooooo slow here. The only reason I give this place 2 stars is because my coconut ice cream was pretty good. However, we waited 20 to 25 minutes on line when there were only about five customers in front of us. The ONE clerk that they had serving (on Labor Day, might I add) was both serving and ringing people up. Handing cash and serving ice cream with no gloves is a no no. She also wasn't friendly at all nor did she look interested in speeding things up. Total for a "kiddie" cup that is advertised as "kiddie, but not just for kids" was $4.18 but the portions are plenty. I would only come here again if there was absolutely no line.

I really like their wraps and sandwiches. A great place to go for a quick iced coffee or del's lemonade.

This is a carry-out only restaurant, and they allow you to place orders ahead for pickup. My friend and I walked in and both ordered the oxtail dinner, and I also ordered a side of plantains. The oxtail came with a healthy side of cabbage and rice and peas. The flavor on the oxtail was very bland, and the meat itself was somehow both fatty and tough. The rice and peas, cabbage, and plantain were both okay. I don't see myself coming back again, but if I did, I would stick to the fried chicken, as that seems to be a popular item.

Lol But I went with it. We called the order in while we were lounging on the beach for pick up. This is a pick-up only spot as I didn't see anywhere to sit and eat. Items ordered were the Oxtails, Thai Salmon, Blackened Shrimp. My friend that ordered the blackened shrimp was the only one disappointed. The oxtails were amazing and tender. I paid .75 for a side of Jerk sauce. The peas/rice were a bit dry; but the jerk sauce helped. I even had leftovers for the next day. I also got the coffee drink with Vanilla & Bailey's, I think it was called "Jamaican me Crazy" That was a bit disappointing because they just handed us a cup with ice for us to pour ourselves. I was hoping for freshly brewed.
