    Blackened salmon platter
    Shariq S.

Best seafood ever! Love the blackened salmon, tilapia, tuna and flounder. Both platters and sandwiches are amazing, fresh, juicy and tasty. You cannot miss this place if you're in Philly area. This is inside the newtowns farmers Market!

Front counter with prepared seafood and fresh fish for purchase.

I love this place!! First it is in an Amish farmers market and there is a large variety of foods here like fresh meats, prepared meals, fruit and baked goods. Madara's is a diamond in the rough. Never thought I'd find a seafood place this good when I stopped in and saw them. I ordered the Broiled Shrimp and Scallop platter. It came with 4 large and scallops and shrimps that were cooked perfectly in a buttery garlic sauce that were delicious!! I opted for the steamed broccoli and I dipped that in the same sauce! Their coleslaw was also very good. All for $11.99!! That's right! I have NEVER paid so little for seafood this fresh and delicious! They're also offer seafood salads, wraps, fresh fish for purchase. If you are ever in the are try Madara's and you see how great they are

The crab stuffed shrimp are almost as big as the palm of my hand and loaded with crab meat.. They are indubitably the best I have ever had. The crab imperial is a huge portion, loaded with crab, seasonings, peppers and onions, breaded and fried into one big ball of a gastronomical delight. The first glass enclosed cooler had a display of breaded jumbo shrimp, scallops, huge crab imperial cakes, stuffed shrimp, salmon burgers, flounder, oysters, clam strips and soft shell crabs. You can have them cook it for you, which I did or take it home as is and mess up your own kitchen. In this same cooler is a very chunky shrimp salad, seafood salad, white fish pate and a spicy crab salad. If you are not into fried and God bless you if you are not, they have broiled stuffed flounder, stuffed salmon and stuffed shrimp. You can have them steam your clams or mussels, baked clams casino, or take them home to do your own thing with them later. We had then broil a dozen clams casino for us, their's are whole clams topped with a mixture of onions, green pepper and bacon. Hubby liked these more than I did, I was tempted to scrape them out of the shell and into the clam chowder. The open cases of fresh shellfish and fish is remarkable. I was a bit disappointed because I saw fish and chips, which they make with tilapia or flounder. I love both of these fish broiled or sauteed, but I love a nice meaty piece of fish for fish & chips, instead of having half breading, half fish. I did inquire and he said they carry cod in the fall and winter but he never recalls having haddock but cod is fine by me. I'll be anxious to check it out when the colder months arrive. They will make you a sandwich out of anything you see before you and will even blacken the tuna steak to rare or medium, although they will blacken any fish. They make wraps with the seafood salads, broiled, fried or blackened fish and they even boast a buffalo chicken wrap. They have five homemade soups, which you can have hot or already packaged in a container to go. I love the fact they do not use Styrofoam. I took home a prepackaged container of New England clam chowder and one of lobster bisque. The clams were tender, but not plentiful, I tasted very little seasoning, no thyme and I needed to add salt and pepper, the potatoes were red skinned and cubed and cooked perfectly, I detected no bacon and very little celery or onion. The bisque could have used some lobster in it, maybe a lace of sherry, it was too sweet and lacked flavor. The soups were okay, not sure I would buy them again, but I may try the others just to see if I might find a winner in the bunch. The other choices are Maryland style crab, Manhattan clam chowder and shrimp with black bean. You can buy platters of anything, even combinations, which come with two sides of either fries, Cole slaw or steamed vegetables. These folks are not Amish or Pa. Dutch and I fail to find any other info of them on the web, but the fish is fresh and the selection leaves little to be desired. I'm torn as how to rate them, the baked stuffed shrimp and the crab imperial are both a five as well as their awesome selection of fresh fish, shellfish and other menu items. For now I will weigh it all out and in the next few visits, I may just be bumping them up a star or two. Oh and the crab stuffed potato, I know crab would blend in well in a baked potato, but I sure had trouble finding it. Something is fishy here.

Blackened salmon. So good. I even ate the skin. ;D

A look at reviews from the last few years read of disappointment in the products available in their cold displays. A change was needed to inject new life and renewed quality into the good Capt'n. That has been accomplished. My recent visit demonstrated that management is actively engaged in rebuilding brand by focusing on returning everything that the seafood market was previously known for to their former glory, as well as expanding with high end crab adjacent goods, like packaged pastas, pierogi, sauces and Stock pound cakes. All this, and the smiling repartee from Mark, one half of the new team running the business. This shop may be small, but it is bright and friendly. Of course, the crab is excellent, especially in light of the fact that Chucky is no where near the Chesapeake and must have inventory all year, and not just in crab season. No whole live crabs in the house, but their thing is the cake that lump crabmeat can create. Several options depending on your taste are available. I purchased a quart of Cream of Roasted Corn & Crab Soup and sampled three large fresh Shrimp. The chowder was delicious, with lots of corn and shredded sweet crab. Maybe not quite as meaty as I have loved in Annapolis, the Eastern Shore or the Delaware Beaches, but compelling nonetheless. Maybe next time I will pick up some of the pierogi and pound cakes to create a full meal. 5 Crusty Stars and only five miles from home.

Each purchase has been super fresh, easy to prepare with the suggested cooking instructions provided. Super clean, always fresh products. Looking for something they don't carry, just inquire. I will start of by saying that the staff here is great and the store is always easy to navigate. It is a bit older of a store so it's a little dark inside but it is also always busy which makes it feel much more lively. they have extensive produce, a large cheese section and prepared food section. Their bakery is nice as well. Actually their cookies are some of my favorite grocery store cookies. The prices can be a bit high but when they have sales they are usually fairly good. I feel like it's a slightly "fresher" and "healthier" store but I have had a hard time finding more unique healthy items. Overall it's a great store, it's not my local store but it's nice to pop in when I'm in the area to pick up some items that the stores near me don't carry.

I watched her interactions with the two guests ahead of me and was honestly surprised by how unhappy and disengaged she appeared. There were no smiles, no warmth, and her overall demeanor gave the impression that she disliked her job, disliked dealing with customers, and simply did not want to be there. As a business owner myself, I understand how important customer relationships are. The checkout counter is often the final impression a guest leaves with, and something as simple as a friendly smile or kind interaction goes a very long way when customers are spending their hard-earned money. I am from out of town and expected much more from what appears to be a boutique-style grocery store with a strong community feel. Stores like Trader Joe's are a great example of how positive, friendly interactions at checkout can completely elevate the customer experience. I even went so far as to ask Delaney if she was having a bad day, and the glaring stare I received in return ultimately prompted me to write this review. To be clear, I am not looking for anyone to lose their job. I simply believe some coaching in guest relations and customer interaction could make a tremendous difference. Delaney is very young, and I genuinely hope she either finds more joy in what she's doing or moves into something better suited for her personality and interests. Constructive feedback is meant to help businesses improve, and I hope this is received in that spirit.
