Don't let the name deceive you. Capt'n Chucky's Crab Cakes has much more than crab cakes. Aside from the fresh and frozen seafood selection and a variety of soups and sauces, they also carry Zook's pot pies, Stock's pound cake, Talluto's pasta, Maddalena's cheese cake, Chef's Key Lime pie, Pierogie Kitchen pierogie and more. If you're a fan of OTC oyster crackers, they have them, too!! The only thing missing that I'd love to see them carry is Fishwife tinned fish. (Fingers crossed). Capt'n Chucky's Crab Cakes changed hands several months ago. The original owner/operators sold the business to a new local family; apparently just in the nick of time. A look at reviews from the last few years read of disappointment in the products available in their cold displays. A change was needed to inject new life and renewed quality into the good Capt'n. That has been accomplished. My recent visit demonstrated that management is actively engaged in rebuilding brand by focusing on returning everything that the seafood market was previously known for to their former glory, as well as expanding with high end crab adjacent goods, like packaged pastas, pierogi, sauces and Stock pound cakes. All this, and the smiling repartee from Mark, one half of the new team running the business. This shop may be small, but it is bright and friendly. Of course, the crab is excellent, especially in light of the fact that Chucky is no where near the Chesapeake and must have inventory all year, and not just in crab season. No whole live crabs in the house, but their thing is the cake that lump crabmeat can create. Several options depending on your taste are available. I purchased a quart of Cream of Roasted Corn & Crab Soup and sampled three large fresh Shrimp. The chowder was delicious, with lots of corn and shredded sweet crab. Maybe not quite as meaty as I have loved in Annapolis, the Eastern Shore or the Delaware Beaches, but compelling nonetheless. Wow! I had to stop myself from buying more and more items. First, the new owners, Marc and Shauna, are incredibly nice. They upgraded the facility and the equipment. The place is impeccably clean - which, for me, is a must for seafood. I stopped in to buy crab cakes but then realized they offer much more. Purchases: 1) Crab cakes - purchased a dozen of the Signature crab cakes to make sliders. They were excellent and a big hit at our party. I had to call "dibs" on the leftover crab cake to put on a salad the next day. 2) Chicken Farfalle soup for a couple of weekday lunches. Looking forward to trying their Maryland Crab and New England Clam Chowder. 3) Two of the Stock's Pound Cakes - one for our party and one to keep in the freezer for "company" like my parents did back in the day. 4) two salmon filets for weeknight dinner. Vacuum - sealed for easy freezing if needed. The tasty food combined with great people and outstanding customer service left a great first impression. I was pondering this one for awhile. I'm a huge fan of well made and crabmeat rich cakes. But my idea of a great CC has pretty steep standards, most restaurants I try them at fall short. When I see them on a menu I'll rarely try unless I'm sure of the restaurant's high standards on other ingredients and dishes. Even then it's like a 50/50 gamble. I was nearby enjoying a lobster lunch and saw the sign at the shopping center's entrance. Wha wha what? Crab cake store? I had to go. This is a small shop with one refrigerated case and a few more frozen cases. After speaking with the manager I selected 3 CCs and a few things from the frozen cases. I liked all of the crab cakes, the mega was my favorite though. This was a larger one with lump crab and also filler. I'm not a filler hater if there's crab meat mixed in and the taste is good. And that's a good description of this one. The one containing almost all meat was good too. I even enjoyed the less meat one that had Gouda mixed in. But I don't think any of these would be reordered if I had them at a restaurant. The frozen items were less enjoyable, the clam was ok but needed a lot more clam in it. The lobster Mac was not very good. The meat was diced up and only on the top, and much of that meat was the parts of the claw you really don't even want to eat( use that stuff to make bisque if anything!) Even the Mac itself was just fair. There were a few items in the freezer that I was interested in that I might have to return to I try, some stuffed breads and stuffed pasta. Also of note, they sell whole Stock's pound cakes. As for me, I don't get the pound cake passion, but I know it's a Philly and S. Jersey thing. To sum up, I think this is a cool place for locals, and I know of one who stops here once in awhile. I would revisit if nearby. read more

I want to give more stars but I can't. The crab cakes are fishy and clearly not fresh in any way. I also ordered some Manhattan Clam Chowder. It came completely frozen. It took 2 days in the refrigerator to thaw out. When I finally tasted it, I tasted salt. Very salty, very little tomato and rubbery clams. Not good. The costs are high. 4 crab cakes, the Chowder and a tip was over $60.00. Buyer Beware. read more

I've only purchased crab cakes from Capt'n Chucky's and so far I've tried the original, the Smith Island, and the breaded varieties. The original is really my favorite as I prefer no filler crab cake with jumbo lump crab meat. Each time I've visited the guy behind the counter has given me specific instructions on how to cook the crab cakes and also provided a small container of butter to cook the crab cakes with. The crab cakes at Capt'n Chucky's is a revelation. I would definitely return. read more

I had such high expectations for this place since I had heard so much sponsored advertising on the radio, but what a disappointment. I had both the lobster bisque and Maryland crab soups, and both barely had any meat in them. There wasn't a single lump of meat in either soups - just small shreds. I suppose that would be fine for a canned soup from the grocery store, but not for the prices and claims ("rich Maine lobster meat," and "oodles is crab meat") of this place. I also tried four different crab/shrimp cakes and they ranged from bad to okay. The shrimp cakes were the best tasting. The smith island signature crab cakes had a decent amount of meat, but lacked the fresh crab flavor. The rock hall crab cake was just bad. The quality of the seafood is not great and it's certainly not fresh. It seems like the business is based on thawing frozen seafood and selling it as purportedly fresh seafood. One positive was the Talluto's lobster raviolis. They were probably the beat lobster raviolis I've ever had and were definitely worth the price. I'll definitely be looking for more Talluto's in the future. read more

I wish I could give it more stars... 8 Stars out of 5! We needed a supplemental dish for a volunteer organization night event in mid-February. I spoke to the owner (Tony) about the best options, and he went ABOVE and BEYOND. He set me up with Stocks Poundcakes, the amazing Shrimp Salad and Broccolli salad. The event had over 65 attendees and every inch of the food was consumed. I cannot thank Tony enough for his kindness and willing to work with us. I would recommend Capt'n Chucky's to anyone who is looking to cater an event, or simply get an exotic dinner for a night at home. The prices are fair and the service is terrific. Wow this place is a little gem for all your fresh seafood needs! The food was absolutely delicious. All homemade and unbelievably fresh! The shop is neat and clean and offers so many fresh and frozen options, along with friendly service. The shrimp are huge and classically delicious. The mini crab cakes had no fillers and were perfectly seasoned. The sabi sauce is like a creamy remoulade sauce that goes great with them. The wasabi crab dip served with crackers will be your new go-to appetizer for parties and way tastier than traditional recipes that are mostly cream cheese. We had the family over for Mothers' Day, so we ordered a lot. The clam chowder was really good, and I've had a few really good Chowders before, but I had to fly them in. I didn't have the tomato soup, but my nephew had 3 bowls, and thought it was excellent. The crab cakes were meaty and tasty, but a little tartar sauce made them better for me. The mac n cheese was good as was the sweet potato. The scallops were fresh and meaty. I know my Mom will be getting her weekly crab cake from here instead of driving to Bobby Chez. All 16 of us left happy and full. I would definitely recommend them. read more

I came in here hungry...no I was actually hangry. I always get take and bake crab cakes at the shore, so I was interested to try land-locked Yardley's take. I came in with my boyfriend, who when we got to the counter asked me what I wanted. I only said "jumbo lump." Obviously that wasn't the answer he was looking for, but the man working was extremely helpful. He pointed me towards the Smith Island crab cake because according to him they have the highest ratio of crab to cake. He also told us how to prepare them, explained all the sauces they had for sale, and sent us home with a menu. Great customer service. These are some of the best crab cakes I've had around here. And such a great value! Containers of jumbo lump crab meat are easily over $30 so less than $7 for one fully prepared crab cake is a great deal. They also baked great in the little toaster oven we used, but probably would have been better in the actual oven. A great addition to Yardley and I'll surely be back. Definitely better or just as good as the crab cakes served in local restaurants, certainly a better deal. read more

I was told by Cap'n Chuck himself "the Imperial has the most meat", so I opted for that one. They have multiple varieties. They will run you $6.25 per piece. The cakes come uncooked. If you're a normal sized human being, you'll probably need 2-3 to constitute as a main dish. My math tells me $18.75 was the price I paid for a part of a meal that I had to cook myself. That makes me a bit sad, because they were good. They weren't '$18.75 for unprepared food' good, however. I don't think many things are... Splurge on them if you're going to have a cookout with some in-laws and want to impress them with "your latest recipe". I'm not encouraging lying to your family; just call them handmade, they are, just not with your hands. read more

Went to The Huntington Valley location today and what a waste of money. The so called seafood was the worst. The Crab Cakes don't even come close to the ones I've gotten at Bobby Chez. This place should be ashamed for selling almost tasteless seafood. If it wasn't so far away I would return everything right now. The Stuffed Mushrooms had no taste, the so called Stuffed Shrimp was joke. The Crab Imperial was dry and tasteless. This guy has really bullshitted the public. I'll never ever go back and I advise everyone else to stay away. If you want a good tasting Crab Cake, Bobby Chez or make your own. I love this place! Crab cakes are always one of my "test kitchen" items at new restaurants. This place gives variety with authentic flavor and real lump meat. I prefer the Smith Island. They are large and filling. We often buy a dozen and have a quick dinner party with neighbors or friends. Pick up a few crab cakes and make the sides at home and you're having a near-restaurant experience at home for way less money. The cakes are normal-to-slightly-large in size. It's a small market, not an eat-in or take-out restaurant, in case that wasn't clear! Crab cakes were excellent, cooked them in our little convection toaster oven. I tried 3 of the six varieties (I forget which), each was subtly different but delicious in its own way. In my opinion, Baltimore has the best crab cakes, and these were easily in the ballpark. We've made day trips to Baltimore just for crab cakes, this place scratches the itch and is much closer! Delicious crab cakes made on site and sent home with you to cook-your-way! My favorite is their Signature Crab Cake, and I pan sear them for 7 minutes or so to get a nice brown crisp on them. They also have shrimp, chowders, sauces, and sides to take home - I'm looking forward to trying those, too! read more
