We stumbled upon this adorable little pet boutique while on a road trip with our pup and it did not disappoint. Staff was busy stocking shelves when we entered but they made sure to greet us and offer our pup a treat right away. She never takes treats from anyone but us, however I always appreciate the effort. Although the space is small, it is packed full of everything anyone could need for their dog. I could not believe how much there was to look through. We were able to find a replacement LED necklace for our dog to wear at night after forgetting to pack ours. They also had some adorable clothes, including the cutest little sailor dress! All of the prices were clearly marked and we let her shop around to look for toys and treats. We will definitely stop in here anytime we are in the area and if you're with your pup or have a dog you want to shop for, this is the place! read more

Super fun discovery while vacationing on the San Simeon coast. My golden and I couldn't miss that giant paw print outside! The store is chock full of any and everything you'd want for your pup or kitty; plus unique stuff I'd never seen before. I regret not getting the name of the awesome large "welcome" dog that genuinely and gently said hello to my dog. So much to look at; my pup thought it was Christmas. Love this pet store! The owners are amazingly sweet and friendly and their human owners are awesome too. We walked in for the first time today and were greeted by the owners and their ADORABLE shaggy dogs. Maddie Mae's offers a variety of dog and cat food, toys, treats and accessories! Mini Bernedoodle picked up a couple ticks on the Fiscalini Preserve boardwalk. Wouldn't you know we forgot to pack flea comb, brush, shoes and flea and tick spray at home!! The owner who has an amazing giant sheep dog named dually was so kind and set us up with every thing we forgot from home. He even sized and fitted our pup with the proper shoes!! Wow! There's quite a selection of pet related items in this little store. Friendly lady (owner?) at the register and a happy four legged doggie(co-owner?) to greet shoppers. Food, treats, toys, etc. so there's something for everyone. Stop in and find something for your furry friend. I'm really bummed I didn't have the same experience here that most people seem to have had. I stopped in with my pup to get him a treat. There's lots of really cool stuff; I picked up a bunch of greeting/note cards, some magnets and of course a treat. There's really a great selection of all sorts of stuff for our best friends. But the service was really disappointing. The person working was curt and their dog wouldn't stop barking - to the point I was getting stressed out and my pup was standing between my legs, frightened. I just didn't feel very welcome; if anything kind of an inconvenience. I left feeling kind of sad. The place is a little spendy but I wanted to support a small business. Everyone has off days and I'm just hoping that was the case. On the plus side I'm excited to give my friends the gifts I picked out. read more

Back in September of last year I ordered several collars ( about 5 of them) directly from the owner she said they would come in about 1-2 weeks after the order. A month had gone by and she had an employee let me know that the items were "back ordered and that the owner didn't forget about me" that same employee went to check the shelves just in case and found that the owner was lying, the exact amount of collars in the specific sizes I had ordered were all on the shelf to be bought by other customers. I was upset so I ordered the collars from an online website instead of supporting the small local business. I recently decided to give them another try about 2 weeks ago because I like supporting local businesses and ordered 4 bags of the large Fromm dog food but this time from the male owner of the store. He told me that it would be in on the following Thursday. This coming Thursday will mark three weeks since I made the order and again have not heard from anyone who works from the store in regards to my order. I have yet again had to find a different online resource to get my dog food from, mind you it's MUCH cheaper than what they sell it for. Ive also noticed that they mark up almost all of the items they sell almost 50% and you can find the exact same product online for much cheaper including shipping. I also want to mentions that I've spent thousands of dollars there and had also joined their meme era program where you are supposed to get 5 dollars off for every 100 you spend at the store for one purchase and that has never been applied to my account. I buy 2 bags of large Fromm dog food every time I would shop there which are well over 100 dollars. I recommend that you shop elsewhere they obviously discrimating in some way. read more

The below review regarding "super slick" floors and "unwanted" pet treats is clearly written by a crazy person. Allow me to set the record straight. My wife and I love shopping for our dog and often to pet stores while on vacation and I can confidently say this is in our top 3 of all time. The selection was GREAT and the staff very friendly. We were in the market for a dog backpack and the salesperson was kind enough to take one out of its packing and help us let our dog try it on. And he loves it!! He can't wait to wear it on our next hike and I can't wait to take him. The store had literally EVERY fun thing we have talked about buying for our dog with a great selection of quality products. We came in the store to get one bag of treats and walked out with a backpack, two delicious bags of healthy treats, a chew, a toy, some Doberman stationary AND are probably going back for a collar later - all for a great price. GREAT STORE!!!!!!! But those laminated floors...they'll getcha every time. read more

What a nice little doggie/cat store here in Cambria of all places. As you know, Cambria is a small little town and has a lot of "mom and pop" stores along the one street that runs through it. Maddie Mae's a great little place, easily found that is packed full of cute pup and kitty things. Anything from toys to collars to food. They have some great treat choices as well. Bought some dried yam fries which all pups love! They also have some great baked treats that you can purchase as well. All in all a great little place to stop by if you're in the area and have pets whom you love! read more

We went into this store twice on 2 different days while visiting Cambria. The first day we just browsed. The store was well stocked with great dog and cat products. However, the space was too cramped and hard to move around especially if you have your dog on leash with you. There were also 2 large English sheep dogs which were most likely the owners dogs sprawled out on the floor. So we just worked away around the beautiful dogs. The second day, we went in to buy frontline for our dog. We ended up buying spray because the woman behind the counter said she did not have Frontline, which is what we use for our dog. She had the generic version. Just to note, advertised in the front window is Frontline. Maybe they ran out of the product. Not sure. No problem. The customer service both days was ehhh. I didn't find the woman very welcoming and attentive. I think maybe it is a good place for regulars and not so much visitors to Cambria. If your looking for something you may have forgotten for your pet while on the road, they most likely have it. She was knowledgeable regarding the different sprays. Which is definitely a plus because she knows what she is selling. I just thought that being the only pet store in the city and having Cambria being rated as a pet friendly area, I just expected this store to be more welcoming to us. We had a better reception at the gallery down the street. read more

I stopped in here a couple times during my weekend visit. There were two separate employees and I found that neither one was rude at all, unlike a previous review. In fact, I found them to be quite friendly. The prices are a little higher than my local stores, but that is often the case in smaller towns - so that was fine. The floors are a little slick, but not nearly like I was worried about as I have a senior dog. She was not sliding anywhere and she has shaky legs... so... Now... my dog is weird about her cookies. She turns her nose up at all kinds of fancy treats and regular treats... so I was hesitant to try their peanut butter squirrel cookies. BUT as it turns out.. she loved the, And they were such a great deal, we had to go back to get more. There are also some cool little items in there for people (i.e. signs, stickers, etc.. ) I would recommend stopping in. Dogs are welcome. And I would definitely go back again. Oh and there was a very cool sheepdog type in there. He was gorgeous. And very well behaved. read more

My cat was going through late stage kidney failure and the owner helped me find an alternative route to her care to make her comfortable through the process. This is a great small-town pet supply store. Every time I walk into the store, I am amazed at the selection they have managed to fit into a small store. They have supplies galore, from leashes and collars to pet beds to a wide selection of natural supplements and homeopathic products. I am a local small-animal veterinarian and am impressed and supportive of the many options of high-quality feline and canine diets they have chosen to offer; I often refer clients to Maddie Mae's for specific brands of high-quality, non-prescription diets I recommend. And last but not least, you can always expect the friendliest of service for you and your four-legged companions (who are of course welcome in the store). Great selection of both dog and kitty food! They have very healthy foods, as well as treats. Pretty cool selection of harnesses, leashes, collars. Cute sweaters and jackets as well! Staff has always been very kind and helpful! In a cute location, pet friendly too! Right off the main block of shops on Main St, with cute window displays. I like that they have limited ingredient foods as my dogs have some sensitivities to different foods. They have pretty good prices as well! This review is for the Templeton location regarding the rude and disrespectful owner. I went into this store to support a local business but had a terrible experience. I have a dog who plays with her leash during our walks. I had a cheap leash for over eight years and our dog has still NOT chewed it apart. I talked to the owner specifically about our dog and he recommended an expensive "rock climbing rope" (Ruffwear brand) that he said would be great for our dog. After TWO walks, the leash completely snapped. Our dog was playing with the leash, she was not given free reign to chew on it for an hour. I'm not even convinced that the break was from being chewed, it had to have been defective to break after only 2 walks, chewed or not. For reference, my dog is an eight year old corgi. I went back to the store and explained that the leash broke after two walks. He did NOT stand by the product that he recommended. Instead, he rudely compared my $35 leash purchase to me buying a car, crashing it, and returning it. He was rude and did not consider taking back the leash. His attitude was negative and he insinuated that I was an idiot for trying to return a product he recommended that broke after TWO uses. DO NOT go to this business. The owner is rude and disrespectful and he does not stand behind his products. read more

Extraordinarily rude employee. We came in and one of our elderly dogs, a pug who has some hind leg weakness, was sliding on the super slick laminate flooring and the employee made a half-joke about her ruining the floors, like one of those jokes that seem there's more truth behind it. We laughed it off but we're thinking this is a dog store, no? Are dogs not supposed to be here? Then the employee, without asking, gave both of our dogs treats, and then made a comment that one of our dogs chomped down on her fingers when taking the treat. First of all, our dogs have loads of food allergies so thanks for giving them something that surely will mess them up. Secondly, our older dog is a pug, and that breed has a tendency to put on weight easily, which anyone working at a pet store should know, so don't thoughtlessly give out treats without asking us. Thirdly, I apologize for the chomping, but if the employee were to ask before giving the treat, we'd explain that we're working on a chomp-less treat accept, so we could risk our fingers or ask her to feed like a horse, with an open hand. The last straw was that then the employee showed one of our dogs a plush toy, which he of course took in his mouth. When we had him drop it, there was a bit of slobber on it, and the employee made a huge deal of saying that "if my manager was here, she'd make you buy it!!!". So make us buy it, don't passively aggressively try to make us feel like garbage for having a dog that has saliva. Not a fan of this place. read more

The store was clean and organized. I wanted to buy everything!
